We purchased our bikes from Spokes and have had them for a few years. We love the quality of the bikes and their service department. We stopped in today to have them check/fill the tires along with getting a bike pump and a new seat. Adam was very friendly and professional. He took the time to put on the seat right away. I went there yesterday 6/20/26 to get work done on my bike. I had a horrible experience. I brought in an expensive Felt bike to get it tuned up and to change the tube in my tire. The guy at service counter wanted to overcharge me $450. He also lied about what needed to be fixed and was very condescending. He told me the chain, seat, handles, ties, tube all needed to be replaced, plus all the service. So on a hunch, I asked him how much he would pay for my carbonfiber bike. (It's 10 years old, but I bought it for $2,000). Guy told me he'd pay $70. I knew this shop was suspect and then that cinced it. I told him absolutely not. That anyone who knows anything (and I'm not a bike expert) wouldn't pay $70 for a bike that was purchased for $2,000. He kept telling me "that's what my owner would pay" as other employees shook their head in agreement with me. I ended up taking it else where. When I got it fixed, I asked the guy what needed to be done, as a I suspected, I just needed grease and the tube replaced, nothing else. My tires weren't rotten. The guy put baby powder on my bike seat, everything else was fine. I also asked him how much my bike was worth. He told me $400+. This place is terrible and frankly taking advantage of people. My suggestion: Go to the guy in Naperville who is retired and genuine. I found him off other reviews in Yelp. Artisanbiccyle.com He's by appointment only. But charges $60 for what this place tried charging $450. He fixed everything in less than an hour -- which Spokes told me would take a week to fix. Not okay. I used to know the owner of Spokes but sounds like things have changed drastically... My sister went there to just inquire about our bikes that were left there. We did leave the bikes there for longer than we should have but it's the way she was treated when she just asked a simple question? What type of manager talks to someone like he did. His answer was way over the top. Holy crap. He basically said ... That they did get rid of the bikes but then told my sister to leave the store and never come back. WTH? WARNING, stay away from this insult of a bike store, SPOKES of Wheaton!! The associate who I dealt with was a pathetic shyster, stealing used car salesman tactics, an insult and waste of my time! I guess they think only people willing to spend thousands of dollars are worth their time and respect. Go to Bicycles, Etc. of Lisle instead, if you want to be respected and treated fairly. After the treatment I received from Spokes, I left and went over to Bicycles, Etc. and got both the service and bike we wanted. I felt like I dodged a bullet in almost having given Spokes any of my money. It's the second bike I've purchased from Bicycles, Etc., which I was going to purchase from initially, but they were closed on the day I first ended up at Spokes. I was at Spokes a few days ago to check out a bike and told the male sales associate that I was interested, but wanted to bring my grandson back in later to have him test it out, which I did. He liked the bike, but wanted a smaller size, which already was ruffling the sales person who tried to tell us he could make the stem lower by removing the reflector. The frame was clearly too large for him and we didn't want the reflector removed. We looked at a few other models and found a different model by the same brand which my grandson liked. They only had it on the floor in small, but said they had a medium in a box they could build and it would be ready by the next day. I told them the kids had swimming the next evening and couldn't make it in, but that we would come back two days later instead, and they said they would build it and I told them I'd be back in the two days. I called the day of the pickup and a female associate told me the bike had been built and was there. I told her I'd be in a few hours. When I arrived with my grandson, those same associates acted like I was inconveniencing them by even asking about it, then proceeded to drag out a model I had already turned down three days ago which cost hundreds of dollars more. Their lame excuse was that they "thought" they had the bike we had asked them to build in their inventory, but were mistaken. Then why was I told it was put together and ready to pick up? Surely if that was true, they'd have discovered the bike wasn't available the previous day when they said it was to be built by. Why the day after that did they say it was built, there, and ready to purchase? I've live 40 minutes away and traveled there three times in three days in good faith and they completely wasted my time and gas to get there. I will not be silently so insulted! read more

Pedal broke and I spent 2 hours trying to remove it. Bolt would not turn, was frozen. Gave up and took to Spokes. Was a busy time. I thought I was going to have to leave bike. But mechanic took 5 minutes and was able to get pedal off so I could put new pedal on. Have had tune ups on bike there each of the last few years and happy with the service. read more

I took my bike in for a tune their 350.00 tune up. Bike sat there for a week before they even started on it. Then when they did they had to order parts. Why not do a quick precheck and see if they have all the parts. So another week . Finally I'm able to pick up the bike . Within a week the rear brakes fail , also the chain fails when I shift . And one other repair they made fails. Take it back tell them what was wrong. A week goes by and nothing call them up. Oh yeah we weren't going to get to it for another week. Wait I returned because your repairs weren't done right . Why should I wait. OK they get on it a couple of days later they call me its ready charge me another 60.00. No apologies, no explanations, no thank yous. I go away for a week come back and breaks still aren't working. Take it to midwest cycling in Wheaton they call me back and they had to replace the brake pads. So either Spokes lied to me and didn't put on new pads or repair the brakes or they put on defective ones. So no I won't be going back to Spokes. read more

Walked in and could not tell who the employees were, no one said hello and I walked to both registers trying to get attention. After getting attention I asked for a tune up on my bike and to fix a flat on my stroller. The technician said the Tune Up was $111 and the flat was $20, $12 for parts, $8 for labor. I started to walk out and then realized I did not get a work order. So I asked for one and he said they usually do not give them out but he would for me. He texted me the work order for the tuneup but not for the flat tire. When I returned to pick up the fixed stroller (within 10 mins), they charged me $35.62. I asked about the increase and the technician told me it was $20 for labor and parts were separate. I explained I was told $20 for both and the technician said "there's no way buddy, we change tires all day, $20 for labor." He blamed it on the previous employee telling me the wrong price. I asked to confirm the tune up price And he asked me if I wanted to be called or texted if additional work was required. I said yes and he noted it in my work order. I suggested I may go somewhere else if they could not stand by their pricing. The technician said "oh, I wouldn't go anywhere else." Upon reflection, I realized that their business practice is clearly to tell customers one price at drop off and then a different price at pick up and to tell them yes that's the price we do this all day buddy. I personally would pay $40 for a flat if they told me upfront that's what it costs, this is not about the price it's about the poor business practice, and the poor customer service. Going to Midwest Cyclery instead, not too far away, recommend you avoid this place. read more

My wife bought her Specialized bike from this place about 15 years ago. We got great service, prices were reasonable, and we both loved the place. During Covid-19 miny bike parts like tires and inner tubes were very hard to come by and one had to wait a long time to get them. Spokes came through for me Jan of 2021 and I was able to set up my bike to be a stationary trainer and in good shape. But today 9/2/2021I just got walloped $41 to change the inner tube of a classic 10 speed front wheel. 5 minute job. $20 for the tube. $20 for the "labor". Not only should I have done it myself but I could have gotten the tube for $6 off of Amazon. I can no longer send my friends to Spokes in good conscience. I'm in search of a new bike shop in the Western suburbs. :-( read more

I am buying a new bike, but it won't be here. Guy behind the counter was a total dick. Treated me like an idiot when I asked question. I asked about SPECIALIZED gravel bikes and he pointed me to $5,200 bike. When I asked if there was something a little less pricy. An advertised $35 wheel truing ended up costing me $103. To be fair, they had to replace 8 spokes; however, that ended up tripling the cost. So, first, the cost they charged me per spoke was $5! These are regular spokes run-of-the-mill spokes for an entry-level 700c wheel. When I inquired about the steep cost I was told that they buy them at $350 for a box of 100. I don't buy that. Other places sell the full set of 36 spokes for an entire wheel for under $20. So $35 for truing labor plus $40 for the 8 spokes with tax came out $78. I was not happy about the deal and not being able to buy spokes at a reasonable cost but, given time pressures, I agreed to go ahead with the service. When I came to pick up the wheel I was given $103 final bill. What was added was 'Flat Fix Labor' and 'Tire/Tube Disposal Fee' and a 'Rim Strip' for an additional $25. $20 of that cost was the 'flat'. I was told that they needed to take the tire off the wheel to perform the wheel truing. Makes sense; however, why was that not on the estimate? And what exactly did they need to recycle given that there was no flat? All along, the service rep kept repeating to me that '... we need to make overhead to make a profit'. Again, I understand but that's not what you say to a customer. I understand the times are tough with COVID and all but I feel overcharged and taken for granted. After a few failed attempts on buying a bike from different locations, Spokes in Wheaton was recommended to me from a buddy. I arrived at Spokes, and Moe was the one who helped me out. I'm just going to cut to the chase because I need to go ride. I'm a little ignorant when it comes to bikes. Moe was patient enough to explain and help me decide on which bike to get. I ended up leaving the store with a GURU Praemio CX Custom. It's the perfect fit and rides excellent. I have been to four different bike shops today, and Spokes in Wheaton is by far the best one I have been to. Their customer service is second to none. Needed a new chain and was in Wheaton so I stopped at Spokes... Most bike shops have a friendly vibe - not so here - staff was rude and condescending. Pricing was ridiculously high. Paid $75 plus tax - $81 total for a new chain. I knew is was high, but did not realize how high. Staff said "parts are in short supply" and "it's a good quality chain". Found it online for $30 plus or minus $2. I could have bought it from REI, Competitive Cyclist, Backcountry, Performance Bicycles, Jensen and Amazon... exact same chain - same Shimano model number. Spokes just lost a long-term customer due to my most recent experience at the Danada location. Half the empoyess don't care about wearing a mask and we were immediately profiled based on color/appearance. I told the maskless worker that my wife and I were returning customers from Spokes and we bought many bikes from them in the past. We said we're here to buy our son a new bike for his birthday. He immediately showed us this beaten up, raggedy bike for $150 and said that would be perfect for us. The handles were black with dirt and were ripped at the end. It was the only bike of that quality along the line of new bikes we were standing by, but that's the one for us apparently. I'm not sure what give off the idea that I didn't have money. Or maybe it was an insult to my brown skin color or my Black Lives Matter gear. Regardless, it was a terrible experience being on the receiving end of that. I've been in sales my whole working career and no sane salesman would go straight for the cheapest option. That's not a sustainable business practice. My wife said maybe he was just trying to get rid of the bike. I asked her if she felt the same treatment would have been given to a white couple walking in. Would they have gone straight for that trashed bike? She said no, it wouldn't have because we were profiled and it became obvious to her. I ended up buying a new bike there anyway, but I regret giving my money to Spokes now. We were treated second rate and their demeanor said it all. The masked cashier who rung us up was polite, but I assume anyone would be taking a few hundred bucks. I've seen others on these reviews complain about the mask thing and poor treatment. My husband and I went to pick up our bikes at Spokes a couple of days ago. He got his the same day and the customer service was fantastic. The guys at the store helped us pick everything we needed and fitted the bike perfectly. I picked up my bike today and had to take off the front wheel so it could fit in our car, and was guided through the process of putting it back on step by step. When I got home we attempted to put everything together and accidentally snapped one of the details for the front wheel (something had to go wrong, of course!). I rushed back to the store (kind of anxious) to see what could be done. I had almost no hope and thought it would be a difficult process. BUT, when I got there and explained the situation to the guys they not only helped me to get the new detail but also gave it to me at no extra charge. I wanted to leave this here because I really enjoyed my experience at the store and rarely write reviews. Very excited to ride my new bike! read more

Last week, I walked into Spokes at around 4pm with hopes of finding a bike. There were two gentleman at the counter that barely acknowledged me then laughed in my face when I said I was looking to possibly purchase a bike because apparently, everyone is. After a few awkward moments and having to basically beg to view some bikes, one of the guys finally showed me the two he already had down off the ceiling that everyone was touching. Side note: no sanitization at all or social distancing in the store, which should be a priority in this day and age. One was a men's bike that was much too big and the other poorly made. They put no effort into finding out my wants or needs and I left feeling foolish. I won't be coming back and will bring my business (and money!) elsewhere. read more

In fact, my wife even had a semi-positive experience and they helped her adjust something on her bicycle. I have tried to support them many times but it is as if their goal is to alienate everyone who passes the threshold of their front door. Not friendly, not thankful, and certainly not timely. Spokes maintenance is some of the worst I have ever experienced. They screwed up a wheel completely replacing a spoke. It was an all black fulcrum wheel and they replaced the spoke with a silver one that was not even the correct gauge, and the dish was way off and they couldn't/wouldn't fix it. I have never had a good service experience from them. For purchasing, I ended up buying a $4k bike elsewhere as they were no help. Their loss. Avoid, there are better local shops. read more

Typically a big fan of Spokes. I trust their work, knowledgeable, good selection. Recent experience has been rough due the lack of communication on a lengthy repair. It's very upsetting and comes across that they don't care. Dropped off my bike for repairs and was told it would be 2 weeks. Lengthy, but I understand given how busy they have been. Two weeks roll by and I am told a part needs to be ordered. Told to "hang tight a little longer". This isn't an updated time-frame! No clue when to expect the bike. Called a couple of times, but wasn't able to get a clear update until I went in person. Was told July 1 and they'd let me know if sooner. Hadn't received any updates on up to July 1, so I call and now they still need the part and it's now July 2? Who knows? 2 weeks is quickly turning into a month. I've really enjoyed Spokes in the past, but the lack of updates and not knowing when I will get my bike back is painful and is now disruptive to upcoming events and my season. Ugh..... Don't feel like I'm important to them as a customer. read more

It really is a bike shop that is AGAIG. I bought my first Mountain bike at their old location almost 20 years ago, time flies. So when I came here I was unaware they moved and more imortantly their INVENTORY is 20 fold in size! It is awesome. I was greeted almost immediately by Muneer and it was like the stars aligned. Meaning everyone bikes their own style, Road, Race, Mountain, BMX, etc.. I'm a Mtb enthusiast and when I explained where I was in the process (about a year out from buying, when I hand down my epic Specialized Stumpjumper (2007) to my son, I would be looking for an updated equivalent. Wow, how things have changed in ten years time. Without boring you with tedious details he knew his shit and then some, has four bikes himself and rides all the same area single track mountain bike trails that I do. We were kindred spirits of sorts.lol Ok, that's a bit ott but it was that good of an exchange and i was eating up his knowledge of the different mountain bikes available on the market. Another huge bonus, they actualy let you test ride and even have DEMO's avail to take for a day if they have them at the time. As much as I like Village Cycle in Chicago, this would never be an option. Totally different experience. VC doesn't need to do crap, ppl will come in and buy. Spoke is for serious bicyclists and cater to those ppl. Finally, the owner who I bought my first bike from 20 years ago? STILL THERE and chatted with him for a good amount of time letting him know my history with Spokes. He was ecstatic, as was I. A 3.5 Star overall rating isn't surprising to me. I've visited Spokes a number of times over the years, and joined their group ride once only to experience an authoritarian ride leader who would get ticked off if you went ahead of him (the group was too slow for me anyway) and, well, most every time I've gone into the store I too was never acknowledged even when making eye to eye contact. For me Spokes is a last resort when I'm looking for parts or gear and then I'm usually dissatisfied anyway. read more

TREAD CAREFULLY and ask for documentation before purchasing! I wanted to buy locally and bought an e-bike here in July 2019 with the understanding it was a 2019 model. When registering it on the manufacturer's web site it came up as a 2018 model. Trust is earned and as a new customer to Spokes they've probably lost me. Unfortunately I have to bring the bike here for service as they're the only Giant dealer in the area, at which point I hope to have a conversation with the owner. As a person who wants to support his local bike shop, I designed to send my bike in for the basic tune up. As a person whom is not mechanically inclined, I would require the assistance of the staff at the shop to get my bike ready to go. After waiting nearly a week, I happily took my bike home yesterday, only to find out that it appears the techs did NO work at all! The bike is in the same exact condition as it was before I brought it in! So now, I've wasted a week and a good sum of money. Very disappointed to have been treated this way by this shop, and the only positive factor is that it occurred before I bought a new bike from this shop. Looks like I will shop at other local bike shops before even thinking about returning here again. read more

I had a fantastic experience buying my first road bike. I was pretty intimidated by the sport, however, Muneer and his staff provided me the advice, knowledge and support I needed. I was fitted on the bike by a true and seasoned expert! Here's what I learned "Fitting a road bicycle comes down to the contact points (connection points) between the cyclist and their bicycle. These five connection points are the right and left foot, the pelvis, and right and left hands. A proper bike fit has more to do with the saddle, handlebars, brake levers and hoods, stem and, most importantly, shoes, cleats, and pedals." During my visit, I also watched all the sales people greet customers and provide lots of help to novice persons like me but also seasoned riders. Thanks again for a great experience! "You want some fries with that?" Spokes is the type of bike shop that wants to 'upgrade' you to something more expensive. Saw it happen to a friend who wanted a certain type of bike and staff kept steering him to more expensive models. I used their maintenance side this week. Specified a simple repair, next thing you know I'm paying 3 times as much for all sorts of work that "needed" to be done. No, it didn't. But they're technically competent and if you're a suburbanite who doesn't mind being gouged and talked down to, go to Spokes. FYI, Wheaton Bike Shop is a nice shop for most repairs at a good price, and if you live further north try Main Street bikes in Carpentersville. read more

A++ experience. Looking to buy a new road bike, I hit many bike shops in the Dupage area. I felt other shops just wanted to know my price range then stick me on a bike to make a sale. Not this place! The second I walked in the door, I was greeted by the owner (Raouf - charming European guy) and he asked what my needs were. He was very knowledgeable and he was the FIRST actual bike salesmen who actually measured me. He showed me things about buying a bike that I never knew. I ended up buying a Pinnarello FP2 and I really love the bike. He even helped me put the bike in my travel box for me at no charge. Took my bike there for a general going-over. It was ready when promised, but nobody could tell me what they actually did to the bike, even when I asked repeatedly. The only thing anyone seemed to know was the amount I owed. My bike seemed just the same as when I took it there and definitely wasn't any cleaner. As an added bonus, my rear brakes wore out just a week after I picked it up. Wouldn't a bicycle tune-up involve checking the brakes? Not here, apparently. read more

I ordered some items from Spokes through their eBay store. Once I found out the items were recalled, I returned them. Bart (from Spokes) said he would refund my money as soon as he received the items. Once they received the items (through USPS, Tracking), they wouldn't return any of my emails, nor did they refund my money. I had to open a dispute with them through my credit card company. Very shady business. Definitely would not recommend buying from Spokes. read more

So I went in because I wanted to see what stuff they had. I did call ahead and I wanted to see if they had women's riding clothing...the man I did speak to on the phone said they did, then I looked on the website and it looked like they had a good amount of women's cycling clothing (specifically a Specialized Women's Tshirt) so I went in with the idea they had stuff. I went in and it was 10 minutes before anyone even acknowledged me...and I walked right past 2 people who worked there...they were socializing. So I was surprise that it was as big as it was...but the ratio of men's vs women stuff was pretty disappointing the split seemed to be about 80/20...Even in the bikes they offered there was a very small section of women's bikes which was in the lower range of Specialized road bikes like the Dolce and the Ruby but the lower end Ruby's (Specialized does make beautiful higher end Ruby's) they did however carry a lot of men's bikes and clothing....1 rounder of women's clothing...very sad, very little selection and very disappointing. No Specialized Tshirt for me...they did have a few Specialized men's Tshirts all that were L and XL in men's sizes. I am going to order one from Specialized. I just find in most bike shops and this one is no different it is very male oriented and if they do carry women's item they carry lower end items...shoes, clothing and bikes...it is very frustrating, and it's not like I am tall/big enough to go into the men's sizes I wear a 6.5 in shoes and wear XS gloves...I am a woman and I am here to ride and I want higher end items (I am not interested in the $100 shoes...!!!!) After someone finally said hello to me they were nice and kind enough. I did take a peek around and they do have some good stuff a lot of different saddles (Specialized and Fizik) cranks, pedals, cages. The main reason I wouldn't come back is that my normal bike shop is smaller and it feels more welcoming like you feel like part of a community...they build a relationship with you (think of it like Cheers where everyone knows your name) this felt a little more like a big box bike shop. There is nothing inherently wrong with this store but it feels more like a STORE and less like a SHOP...it had more of a corporate feel which is not what I am looking for. Sorry Spokes...I won't be headed back. read more

After hitting up 2 or 3 other bike shops in the area, we were at spokes looking at some starter - mid level commuter bikes under $500. Everywhere else was wanting $600-800+ for entry level bikes, which is ridiculous considering our needs (ride to train & occasionally the farmers market). We found a couple Giant hybrid type commuters for around $350, they had an aluminum shifter and lever model for $450 so we chose the upgrade. I think our reps name was Alex?, great guy and very knowledgeable. They set everything up for us and a week later we have our bikes. Happy with the purchase as well as the service. read more

Definitely appreciate them reaching out and will count on them in the future as my go-to bike store. Was quoted at $55 plus $10 for labor twice over the phone with Spokes for a new rear tire. Final bill when I picked up was over $100 for all the components that go inside the new tire which was not described over the phone.
