A unique, one of a kind cafe/tea house/lounge/bar that is not to be missed in Tampa. As the name suggests, the decor is incredibly spooky, featuring scary statues, pictures that change on the walls, and furniture that looks like it all belongs in a haunted house...all located in renovated former Baptist church. But other than being one scary venue, Spookeasy has food and drinks that are worth hanging around for while you take in the spookiness of the place. A full coffee bar, they already have my name on it, but they also feature sandwiches, snacks, salads, and other bar food. While I came here for a Death Cafe event, I decided to make myself comfortable by getting myself some food and lattes. Thankfully, the place serves up food that makes a visit here worth more than just a quick look around. I got myself a hot marshmallow flavored latte, and a breakfast sandwich. The latte was delicious, and I loved the marshmallow flavor I got with it to give it a more unique taste perfect for winter. It gave me just the right kick while I waited for my event to start. The breakfast sandwich seems simple enough, bacon, eggs, cheese on toast, but each ingredient was thoughtfully prepared to make one filling meal. I can tell the egg is fresh cracked and the bacon was perfectly crispy, all held together by two slices of thick toast. I also loved the fries that came with it, well seasoned with cheese sauce AND melted cheese, so I was pretty occupied and well fed during my meeting. Okay, so, I loved the SpookEasy, but the bar downstairs, they need to get rid of the terrible leprechaun bartender. My girlfriend and I were in town for a show and I was looking forwarding to continuing to have a good time, but when we made it downstairs, unbeknownst to us, it is EXTREMELY frowned upon to have your own water bottle. Literally laughing out loud as I write this review. So myself and my friend, both (almost) 40 year old women, walk up to the bar to check out the menu. The bartender walks up to us and gets instantly pissed that my friend was holding a water bottle from our hotel room. He proceeds to put a can of Liquid Death on the bar and open it. In my mind, I'm like, ohh, how sweet! Well he must have said something as he did that about how you can't have outside 'drinks'. My friend naively starts chugging the water to get rid of it. The bartender almost jumps from behind the bar to escort us out. Meanwhile, I'm just like wtf happened?! As we try to ask him, he was extremely rude and proceeded to treat us like criminals and kicked us out. Walking away, we were more confused than anything. Esrom is an absolute standout at Spookeasy Kava Bar. We were initially told by the bouncer that we had to leave because there wasn't a place to store my electric scooter. Esrom caught wind of the situation and immediately went out of his way, came outside, and told us he would personally store my scooter so my girlfriend and I could come in and enjoy drinks. That level of care is rare. He didn't have to do that -- but he chose to. On top of that, once we were seated, he brought us games to play and made sure we were having a great time. It's extremely uncommon to see someone who genuinely cares about their job and the customer experience to this extent. Esrom is a huge asset to this establishment, and that kind of hospitality doesn't go unnoticed or forgotten. Because of him, we'll absolutely be back. read more

This place is worth a visit just based on the unique vibes. We had already been drinking that day so we didn't get to try the kava. They seemed to have a minimal selection of actual alcohol. My husband and I had different types of sangria. He said they used almost every bottle behind the bar to make them. His was gross and tasted like punch from a cheap fraternity. Best lounge area ever! Friendly for those under 21 as well. Food- The upstairs area is where the 18+ can hang out and order food and cava drinks. No alcohol! The downstairs is where the 21+ hang out where alcoholic beverages are available. The food and drinks are fair price. We had the tenders and they were great. I ordered a cava drink when I first went (I was 20) and they were great. It came in a cute skull glass and I ended up having 3. When I came back for the catacombs (finally 21!) I had the rocket pop and it was amazing. Service- Everyone is so sweet and cool. When we first arrived the bouncers are nice and do their ID checks. If you're 21+ you get a wrist band but under 21 gets the magical Xs on your hands and guided to the upstairs area. The tenders upstairs are amazing, they explain the drink menus and I remember talking to one of them about tattoos. The bartenders in the catacombs are awesome amazing. One of them explained the rocket pop and guided us through a memorizing tour. He explained the origins of the Rocket Pop drink and the different layers. Ambience- you first enter this lounge, the music has you tapping your feet, shaking your head to the beat. The decor catches your eyes, as you go upstairs and see the giant statues and amazing furniture. You sit down and take a few sips of your cava and feel no need to get up for a while, while you hang out with your buddies. The lighting is soft not too dark not too bright. The catacombs call your name, you go down 2 flights and you're surrounded by more beautiful decor, it fits the alternative vibe. There's a DJ area where you can make song requests. We never come to the ybor area so first time out, in Saint Pete bars you can go in the restroom with multiple people ( unless stated) We didn't see a sign and there wasn't someone to guard the bathrooms. My one friend had finished and the other was still seated and I had my skirt on backwards and wanted to fix it. In the midst of almost being done and coming out a man who I didn't see at the bar or the door just came yelling at us the get out of the bathroom. My friend who was finished exited to tell him we were just pulling up our pants and we'd be right out. He kept yelling and trying to push past my friend to open the door as I'm frantically zipping my skirt quickly and she's fixing her tights. ( our outfits were a bit more elaborate than usual and mind we were only In there for maybe 5 mins before he burst in) It escalated very quickly to him yelling at us to get "$&@#" out of the bar. The door man then accompanied him in calling us obscenities and yelling. He accused us of doing coke and called us many names after we tried to explain why we couldn't all just step out of the bathroom when he first asked. First and last time back. There's limited street parking available, along with public parking directly across the street. Additionally, a parking garage is located just two blocks away. The atmosphere here is haunting and Gothic, almost reminiscent of a spooky museum. It's definitely a spot where you'll want to snap plenty of photos. Upon entering, you'll notice both an upstairs and a downstairs. The upstairs area appears to have much more to see compared to downstairs. They offer a variety of board games for entertainment that you can enjoy while you're there. I ordered a taco salad, and I can honestly say it was fantastic; I really enjoyed it. My wife opted for a Love Potion cocktail, which was also quite good. The staff is friendly and welcoming. While we were there, they had some sort of drawing class happening, with a few ladies posing for the artists. Initially, we were uncertain about this place, and to be honest, my wife had her doubts, so we almost didn't go in. But I'm so glad we did! One of the must uniquely decorated venues I've ever been to! It felt like I was walking into a set of a scary movie or Halloween-esque bar. I had the Audrey IIX (which according the bartender is one of the most popular drinks) and I can see why. It was very tasty and came in the cutest skull cup (in theme of course). My boyfriend had a Kratom tea and although it wasn't my cup of tea ;) he really enjoyed it. My drink was infused with Delta-8 and I didn't really feel much but it was still enjoyable. The vibe in this place is very thoughtfully crafted. Clearly, this is targeting an alt crowd. It'd be very comfortable to go hang out at The Castle and then go here for drinks, coffee, and/or food. I happened to be strolling the streets of Ybor yesterday after hearing a friend say there was a place that does karaoke on Wednesdays and the songs are chosen at random and not by the participant. This sounded like my kinda chaos so I wanted to stop in to see what else the place has to offer. I discovered it used to be a speakeasy and is now a bar downstairs and a cava lounge upstairs. I had no clue what cava even is so my friend and I decided to give it a try. We landed on trying kratum instead. Our server was so helpful and knowledgeable about what types of drinks we'd want for the specific moods we were trying to achieve and the flavors we wanted to taste. We both tried "hybrid" drinks that she told us was a mixture of an upper and a mellowing affect and that any alcohol we'd consume(d) in a 4 hour window would have a more euphoric affect. We left and had a couple martinis and IDK if it was a placebo effect or what but I could see this being a great caffeine replacement or even a replacement for people who like to smoke tobacco after drinking to heighten the effects. read more

The spook easy lounge has been on my list for a while. Finally had the opportunity since we were in Tampa for gasparilla. The new location is still in Ybor city and took over the location of the old cereal bar. It is upstairs on the second floor. It's nicely decorated inside with everything dark and scary. I ordered a hot passion flower lavender tea with white chocolate syrup. My boyfriend ordered a kava drink. I usually never put syrup in my teas but my tea was delicious. The mixed the tea leaves together. You can mix and match a few flavors. I was not a fan of kava but my boyfriend enjoyed his drink. We played card games while we enjoyed our drinks. There is no alcohol served upstairs. There is a downstairs spooky bar that does serve alcohol. WHAT a place. Two floors of absolute M O O D. The decor in SpookEasy is perfection, a love letter to horror and goth that is campy but not one bit lame or Halloween-storey. Upstairs in the large space is a tea and kava bar - sipping a delicious tea drink called Death on the Beach from a skull shaped glass that I set down on a glass coffin with a blood soaked vampire inside? Is this reality? Yes it is, and it gets even better because the employees are a pack of hardcore hotties, and the music playing is the setlist of your most vampiric dreams - Bauhaus, The Cure, Type O Negative. Your black heart will swoon. Oh but it gets even better. Downstairs you step into the Catacombs, where the music is louder and heavier, the walls are lined with skulls, and the bar is open. I adored their Vampires Kiss cocktail, with VNV Nation and Lords of Acid playing overhead, and huge screens showing Saw and Beetlejuice to add to the visual mood. These are my people, and they didn't miss a single detail or opportunity to be an all encompassing experience. So, this is actually located within the The Stone Soup Company. I had no idea at first and sat at that bar instead and got a drink and looked around and was thinking, "This isn't spooky at all." Low and behold, I was in the wrong area! (Note: The Stone Soup Company has a super potent Devil's Old Fashioned.) Anyways, this speakeasy is unique because it doesn't specialize in alcoholic drinks, but rather in non-alcholic kava and kratom.
