I can't believe I haven't reviewed this shop yet! Been a customer since they first opened. Nancy and Kyle are so kind and incredibly knowledgeable. Their cheeses are all amazing and delicious and they provide excellent advise on pairing with wines. I've not had a chance to try the restaurant, as life isn't going to bring me up to VT this winter, but I'm sure it's run with the same loving attention to detail as their cheeses. Wonderful Wine & Cheese Boutique coupled with a great Wine Bar. Cheese maker Nancy Bergman and sommelier Kyle Frey never fail to impress with the quality of their products and hospitality. Ms. Bergman makes world class soft ripening cheese which she kindly permits me to sell in my store. They are all great but my favorite is the Grappino, the most full flavored of the bunch. The wine selection curated by Mr. Frey is thoughtful and holds many delicious surprises from all over the world. They also have a wonderful wine bar named "Remedy." The couple holds theme based dinners based on the cuisine and wine from various viticultural regions. The last one was from the Savoie region of France and there was exquisitely melted Raclette Cheese everywhere. Needlessly to say the 6 or so wines were perfect and though I've been in the wine business for 30 years (7 of which were in France) I was surprised to try wines that I'd never heard of. Jacksonville, Vermont is lucky to have them, I'm lucky to have them 20 minutes away. Reservations strongly recommended!! read more

We absolutely adore this gem of a cheese shop. The proprietors are extremely friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. They make all of their own cheeses in caves located on the premises. They have many different soft and aged cheeses. Their truffle cheese is a little crock of heaven. Their version of Brie melts in your mouth and keeps you coming back for more! My husband and I love sitting down with a fresh baked baguette, cheese plate, and a bottle of bubbly. It's a great little spot for a quick afternoon date. Seats are limited and it's often crowded, however, the wait is always worth it! We can't get enough of this place! read more

I've know Jacksonville for years and never could I imagine that an establishment as vibrant and welcoming would one day come into being there. Spoonwood creamery is an oasis of civility, charm ,good humor and amazing cheese and wine. Nancy and Kyle are refugees from the Isle of Manhattoes . Kyle is a Sommelier with vast knowledge and sensitivity. He curates a lovely collection of wines at all price points from mostly the Continent. Nancy is the talent behind the cheese making ; Cabin Bear , St. Em and many more. All the lovey cheeses are her creations. If your next drive in southern Vermont takes you winding through Jacksonville then make sure you put on the brakes and stop at Spoonwood Cabin Creamey. The black truffle cheese is the greatest cheese I have ever tasted. This place is seriously out of bounds.

I am always a little hesitant to give any place five stars, as I think it really should be reserved for the absolute best experiences. While there isnt a ton going on here, what is there is all "as good as it gets". We came through early on a Sunday afternoon. They have pretty short hours - weekends only, so make sure you are aware. We walked in and immediately saw some wines that caught our attention. This is worthy of mention because...well...there doesn't seem to be much in the way of eclectic wine lists in the Southern VT area (at least that I know of). We started looking through their labels and were invited over to the cheese counter to try some samples. One of the owners (From reading other reviews, I believe his name is Kyle) explained each of their cheeses in great detail - the production, ageing, flavors, how they are similar or different to comparable cheese. We tried: St Em - Very mild, buttery, soft bloomy rind. The kind of cheese you can accidentally eat the whole wheel. Cabinbert - Camembert style. A little more complex, wet leaves, forest floor. Also very good and approachable. Grappino - Creamy, washed (with Grappa) rind. Funky, but mildly so. Not going to slap you the way a really ripe epoisses can. Truffle Foramge Blanc - A 'truffle' cheese that actually tastes like truffles. No hiding or subtle flavors here. Really nice. Maple Formage Blanc - Also very nice, but definitely an assertive maple flavor. Good in moderation, not unlike the truffle formage blanc. Feta (cows milk) - Id say its a little less complex than a cow or goats milk feta - but not quite as plain as you would expect from a cows milk. Nice brine - easy to eat. Ill be back to get some for pizza/focaccia. We also spent some time talking about their wine selection - Kyle was clearly a Sommelier in a "past life" - his depth of knowledge is huge here - and incredibly helpful. I've worked with some true wine lovers before - and its always a joy to get to pick from a list curated by someone who really loves what they have selected. This is probably now "our wine shop" - as it is just as far as any we would go to in VT. The shop is probably 10 minutes from Wilmington, and 20 from Dover. If you're bored with what you're finding elsewhere - its more than worth the quick drive. As I said at the beginning - the whole experience is short - but it is so tightly curated and fine tuned that I really cannot think of any reason to give less than five stars. We will definitely be back - I cant wait to try their aged & goat cheeses - and pick up some more wine! read more

I haven't been here since the wine bar went in, but this is a nice little spot. Something I'd say is absolutely remarkable is the spreadable truffle cheese. The texture, price, and flavor are unmatched in any other cheese I've had. I would buy it by the gallon and have an IV drip of the stuff if I could. read more

I recently stumbled upon Spoonwood Cabin Creamery while driving through Jacksonville, Vermont after a weekend in the mountains. It is located in what looks like an old home, however, inside it is very homey, yet modern. The cheesemaking is done right behind a large plate glass window which is cool, and it all looks very clean. Upon entering I was greeted by one of the owners, who did a whole cheese tasting for me. In fact, he even gave me cheese to bring out to my wife in the car to taste. Not only are they nice people, but their cheese is amazing. They specialize in goat and cow's milk cheeses, and their cheeses are very complex and interesting to eat. They do sell a basic goat cheese which is light years ahead of anything you'd find in the grocery. I also bought this round cheese with a wooden type cup for baking in the oven and it was amazing. Overall, I look forward to visiting there on many more occasions, and am glad to see a local producer of great products! I would highly recommend you make a visit! read more

Wonderful cheeses made in house by Nancy Bergman with milk from local cows. Fabulous wine selection curated by Kyle - -a highly skilled sommelier who has worked in some of Manhattans finest restaurants. Do yourself a favor and stop here if you are in the Wilmington / Dover Mount Snow area. It is worth a detour-- The place oozes charm. And if you have time, reserve a wine/ cheese tasting in their new Remedy wine bar - it's a great way to spend an apres ski evening or a rainy afternoon. You will love it! read more

My partner and I stumbled into this place on a random drive (sorry, guilty pleasure), and now we are completely on board! We had a lovely conversation with Nancy and Kyle about the cheeses, tasted six (I think) and then couldn't decide which to get so wound up with FOUR -- but it is all good because they are all made from the milk of happy local cows. (Not sure of the details of that but I think no steroids, non-GMO, organic feed? not sure; maybe Kyle or Nancy can elaborate.) We also bought some very interesting-sounding wines but unfortunately I haven't found an occasion that I was willing to open mine for -- they are precious! -- so those are yet to be appreciated. Anyway, having put ourselves on the mailing list we couldn't resist going back to Remedy for dinner (it was more like an extravaganza of appetizers, but I love that!) a few weeks later -- and OMG it was amazing. I mean, truly memorable. We had a charcuterie plate that Kyle explained to us in great detail (not gratuitous, we wanted to hear all about it -- many things we hadn't tried before) with a wonderful bread and some simply delightful prosecco (I think -- not sure, but it was bubbly and it was a Tuscan-themed night so I think it must have been prosecco). Spoonwood Cabin is a great little gem in the mountains. The owners make the cheese, age it, market it, sell it to the public on weekends out of the little front store, and eat it and enjoy it. It is just the 2 of them making it all happen. They love to experiment and create new cheese, but sticking with classic techniques. They also have a great variety of wines and unique beers hand picked by owner (and sommelier) Kyle. You will find their cheese in some great restaurants in NY, but you can taste them all if you are in Jacksonville, VT at the right time! read more

We were friendly with Kyle from his restaurant in NYC, where we were regulars, and enjoyed hearing about the birth of the creamery for a few years. Spoonwood opened just in time to supply our wedding, where the cheese plates were a starring attraction. Ok wine lovers... This is the real deal in Southern Vermont. They have the COOLEST ( small but well chosen) wine selection in the area. Yes, the store is small, a bit cramped but worth the challenge if you care about really good wine and cheese. A good quality Bordeaux under $25... A Portuguese Vino Verde, a Touraine from the Loire! .. I could go on. You will not find in this store what you will see at the VT supermarket or 7-11. The cheese is good and made in house and you should also grab one of their Bagettes. After 2 visits we have put this on our weekend run when we are in VT. Julie D. read more

Heard about Spoonwood Cabin and their great cheese. My mom was in town and loves cheese, I was excited to take her somewhere new and local. When we walked in there were two people at the counter and a guy seated next to the counter. There was no room to look at the cheese they offered. I wouldn't have minded that wee couldn't see what they had if someone acknowledged us. The owner never said hello or asked if we needed help, or said I will be right with you. The owner gave samples to the counter people and walked around to give one to a guy sitting in the chair and still said nothing to us. We waited and waited and still weren't acknowledged so we left. Thankfully our trip to Jacksonville wasn't wasted because we enjoyed some amazing sandwiches from the General Store. Go to spoonwood if you would like to be ignored then head to the General store for some great food and service. read more

We have met Nancy and Kyle at their store in Jacksonville and at the Brattleboro farmers market. They are super friendly hosts who give you plenty of time to sample the varieties of cheese they produce and the other goodies they offer at the store including an excellent wine selection. If you are not the first on line, have a little patience...when its your turn, you can have the same relaxed and interesting food experience we have had many times. read more
