Finally had the chance to visit sports basement after shopping around the Almaden plaza! It replaced the Barnes and noble, and it has plenty of parking nearby since it occupies a corner space. They have lots of equipment for working out, snow gear, shoes, and clothes. We were specially looking for spiked shoes since my sister started track and field. The worker was so attentive and knowledgeable in his recommendation. I managed to find a new pair of Hokas! It was a great time to compare Hokas and on cloud shoes. I am a huge fan of the Sports Basement franchise. I am currently a member and I enjoy shopping at any location when I can. The Sunnyvale location is the one that I have been going to since my college days. I was happy to hear that a new South Bay location was closer to where I live. We arrived at the new Sports Basement Almaden location on a Sunday early evening recently. The sporting store is located in the San Jose Almaden plaza close to Costco. The building space use to be a Barnes and Nobles before this. Parking is easy and accessible in the large parking lot. The sporting store is huge and spacious inside. It was very clean, bright, and well organized. You can still smell the fresh wood from the decor and display tables. Camping and winter stuff are in the back as clothing merchandise are in the front and middle. Overall I enjoyed checking out the newest Sports Basement Almaden. The staff was friendly and helpful. I will return to shop and attend future events. read more

The employees were super friendly and helpful with my online return. When I went to check out their shoes, another employee was very knowledgeable in the shoes I was looking at. This location is pretty big inside and it was easy to find what I was looking for with their large signage. I didn't get a chance to look around in other departments but it seemed they had a good selection. I also saw someone working on a tennis racket so it seems they offer repair services as well. I liked their service someone asked if I needed help with anything. I had just come from another sports store around the corner where the service was meh. already a fan of the "athletes" toys r us, i was thrilled to hear they opened a new store in south sj, esp since there are many run clubs, and runners in southern santa clara county. they host a weekly run club every wednesday evening, for free, a great opportunity to meet new friends and running buddies. this store is massive, and feels like the biggest sb i've ever shopped at. i've been to all three sf-based stores, and live near the rwc store, and frequent the sunnyvale & campbell locations, but this definitely feels like the biggest one of them all! you have the same selection of merchandise, clothing, shoes, accessories, but i feel like i have much more space to maneuver since the walkways seem wider...less bumping into other customers! there is plenty of parking just outside the store, but be forewarned, getting in and out of the shopping center may be a bit of a challenge since almaden plaza is very busy, like all the time, weekdays and weekends! i often have to wait to get into and out of the parking area. otherwise, this is located in such a great, convenient location, just off hwy 85 & almaden expy. even though it's not in my neighborhood, i frequent ssj enough that i'll make it a point to drop by and see what new "toys" they have for me to see and play with! read more

Came here twice since they opened and it is HUGE. Pretty much your one stop shop with competitive prices especially if you become a member. I mainly want to express that the customer service has always been phenomenal. I am greeted when I walk in and everyone is kind and attentive. Special shout out to Kieth and the other gentleman working in the shoe department (unfortunately didn't get his name) But keith, what an amazing dude! he went above and beyond during my experience and made me feel very comfortable. I was looking for shoes to supplement my post-injury healing. I originally grabbed another shoe and told him what I was looking for and he was incredibly knowledgeable about every shoe they had. I ended up leaving with a different shoe that I was more confident about thanks to Keith. So glad I didn't walk out with the wrong thing! What a fantastic store this location used to be where the Barnes & Noble once was and the space is totally perfect for an outdoor sports store. The Sports Basement has always been a spectacular place to find all your sporty and outdoor goods. My best friends and I we often come here for any gear that we may need for any new sport we're trying out or if we need a new ski gear. My best friend actually bought some brand new skis on the grand opening of this location where he got 20% off which is totally a steal when skis be like $900 or more sometimes LOL Anyway the employees that we met were all super sweet super knowledgeable and really know their stuff in the snow and ski area. The service is great I think the value is great at Sports Basement to especially if you're a basement here where you get a little bit of percent off because every bit really adds up. This location is great but if you're familiar with Almaden sometimes parking can be a challenge considering the Costco is right there but also how that parking lot is owned so be sure to come earlier in the day so it's less stressful for you. read more

I got my first like here for a race coming up. It was a wonderful experience with Tom, Ed and Chris. Their customers service were unbeatable. I learn to change tires and many other things involving with biking. Tom was a tremendously helpful in making my first few bike rides fun and safe. I rode with their Saturday biking event which I would recommend all new bikers to experience for themself. Sports Basement is a great place, whether you're new to a sport or a seasoned athlete. The staff are usually welcoming and helpful. I was first introduced to Sports Basement when the Redwood City location opened, and I've been a fan ever since. However, my recent experiences at the Almaden Valley bike section haven't lived up to that standard. On our first visit, we were looking for a bike for my son, who races MTB in NICA. We mentioned that he already rides a Trek Marlin (scholarship bike) and that we need a 29er with the smallest possible size. the rep was showing us a canondale quick 24. On our second visit, we went in for tubular glue. The staff member wasn't familiar with it, even after we explained, and suggested we go to a different, "family-oriented" bike shop. That was surprising. While we were there, the kids were checking out the bikes on display, and my son shifted one of the shifters. A bike mechanic came over and told us not to touch it, saying it would damage the derailleur. My son looked at me and asked, "Isn't that what it's designed for?" I honestly didn't understand how shifting a display bike would damage it. The interaction felt rude, and there was no signage anywhere indicating that customers shouldn't touch the bikes. I hesitated to include this, because it doesn't reflect the overall Sports Basement experience I've had over the years. Staff members like Tyler(both), Asifi, Zeke, Seamus, Daniel, and Gino are the reason the brand has such a strong reputation. We mainly stopped by Almaden Valley due to its proximity to the velodrome, but based on these experiences, we likely won't return to that location. That said, this doesn't change how I feel about Sports Basement overall, we have had many great experiences, and I'm confident that will continue. read more

Wandering in and didn't realize it was opening day (8/6/25). The store is bright, huge and comfortable to walk around in (compared to the cramped Campbell location IMO) Alex and Keith, in the shoe dept, were friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. Told Keith about my needs and past injuries, and he educated me and had me try on a few different brands for the right fit, feel and function. Thanks guys.. good luck with the opening. read more
