Stopped by with my husband to try a particular pair of shoes that he needs and just have due to a disability. Even called ahead of time and asked rep to hold in front as we were driving from Sacramento. The entire time my husband was walking/trying the shoes on we had a bunch of what appeared to be loss prevention folks near us and following us all the way to the paying line. Didn't they feel dumb that we were NEVER going to steal anything and were in fact paying for the shoes. Truly unacceptable, unnecessary, and even felt racist. No further comment. read more

Between friendly Grace up front at the counter to nice chat and banter with the humorous and customer-service-oriented Mr. Young upstairs to the elder woman ( maybe in her late 60's, thick-rimmed glasses, quick wit, re-stocking clothes then scanning SKUs to get prices for me on various items ), a generally good shopping experience. Really love the store layout, not sterile, has personality to it, the variety of sports items, apparel, shoes, and was even pleasant enough with the air-conditioning and fans on. Can't give it 5 Stars, though. Would love to, but this place has more items missing price tags than Grocery Outlet! Mentioned it to a couple of the employees, one replied there are "some items" where that is true ( more than some ), and another assured me that the items I was referring to had price tags on them. Yeah, No! At least in the energy bars / nutrition / protein powders / hydration packs, etc. department. Yes, there are some stickers designating price / bar and price / box, which IS helpful, then...a row or two or three of suddenly no price tags. And look at it this way, if you're going to put in the effort to label containers with expiration dates like "5/27" ( which seems like the store did in the spirit of good customer service ), then you CAN actually make the effort to clarify to the customer what item is what price. ( Why does this seem like basic Common Sense here, and if managers are not on top of this problem, then that is on them. I spent too much time walking the aisles, trying to find pricing, asking for help to scan items, discovering more things without pricing. Fix that problem ASAP. Or install a scanner in parts of the store for customers to utilize on their own. ) Overall, check out the store. Here's another reason why: I observed (2) separate employees, one younger 20's male in the running shoe department, one latter 20's female in the ski boot department, personally attending to customers, giving their input on products, doing some old-school sales and persuasion. Just bought the Pace 4 Step through E bike. Worked with Daniel and Gino. These 2 have been assisting us with other bike inquires and they have just been a Knowledge of wealth. We were suppose to buy the e bike 4 years ago for my wife but she had to deal with some medical issues and surgery around her shoulder. With her range of mobility limited we had to delay this purchase. Last week my wife got a clearance to begin biking went to Sports Basement to check on pricing and models. Gino and Daniel allowed her to test ride the bike, let her borrow a helmet and broke down the necessary steps on how to operate the bike. They mentioned the price match from Aventon's website and also informed us about the free rack and fender as well. All in all the no pressure to buy, great customer, price match, service, and knowledge is hands down impressive. The going price for the waxing was quoted $30 and a $45 price for Edge work and wax. I dropped it off in afternoon and it was ready within a day. It was paid in advance and it was ready within 24 hours. The service staff were Super friendly and very helpful. If you need to do a rental for Skiis or Snowboard, , get there early to avoid a line. In their shoe department they have several descriptions of your feet posted, my husband was categorized as neutral. They sort of their shoes by type. They put all the neutrals together. It was easier to shop for shoes because they put all the neutral shoes together. We walked out with a new pair of running shoes. He's tried them at home on our treadmill and they are real winners. The staff members in the shoe department are very knowledgeable and helpful. They are pleased to help out. If you forgot your socks they have 2 baskets clean and dirty. They are all different thicknesses so it's perfect for trying on all different kinds of shoes. The return policy is great. There is no limit on returns and as long as you haven't worn all the tread off you can return them. It's just like REI. The only difference is you can't lose your receipt. At REI they can look up your receipt for you as you are saved by membership number. The bathrooms are clean and located in the bicycle area. Came here just to say, can someone please give Sam (Milo auburn hat) a raise. This guys customer service is out of this world. Came in on a Thursday evening & he went above and beyond to get me into the best fitting ski boot. I haven't experienced customer service to this level in a long time. Not only did he help me (and was so thorough) but he was making sure that every customer that walked by him was already being helped and if not, he very tactically started helping them until he was able to get another team member over to help them. Cannot say enough about his work ethic and just how happy he seemed to be doing his job and helping customers. PLEASE.... Someone give this guy a raise. Beyond satisfied with my visit here! I came in to get my snowboard boots heat-molded because they had caused me discomfort while riding. Shout out to Mike, a top-tier guy! He really took the time to identify the issue of my insole, while providing me insights from his expertise. I called to ask a very simple question: do you have electric bikes with comfort seats available for rent? First I reached the bike department, who said he couldn't tell me what bikes they had so he transferred me to the rental department, who said he couldn't tell me what kind of bikes they had so he transferred me back to the bike department, who said he couldn't tell me what kind of bikes they had so he transferred me back to the rental department, who said he couldn't tell me what kind of bikes they had so he transferred me back to the bike department, who then transferred me back again to the rental department. In the end I was told to just go online. The problem is that the website also does not specify which electric bikes have comfort seats, so you can't actually choose the kind of bike you need. And this matters. I've rented here before and had a two-electric-bike day completely ruined because the seats were rock hard. They hurt so badly I couldn't sit properly for three days afterward. My friend and I ended up sharing the one bike with a comfort seat and taking turns suffering on the other one the entire day. So this time I tried to plan ahead and specify what kind of bike I needed. After all the phone transfers and aggravation, no one could give me an answer, and the website can't tell you either. You could easily rent a bike and end up with one that you literally can't tolerate riding. Something about this process needs to change. Someone should be able to tell customers what bikes are actually available, and ideally the website should clearly list the models and seat types. I understand inventory moves quickly. That's fine. But customers should at least be able to call, ask a question, and reserve the type of bike they need. Right now the whole system is twilight zone level nonsense read more

I love the deals at sports basement especially when you become a member. The customer service is both great and horrendous for snow gear. Every time I go, it takes an hour before receiving any help. Last time I waited 1.5 hours and reassured by 5 times someone will be right with me. There's no line system, they help anyone they see even if the person just arrived and other people have been waiting. Once they start helping someone, they give their full-undivided attention and expertise to them, but that also means ignoring everyone else who has questions. read more

I was looking for a swimsuit for the ocean. The sales clerk sent me upstairs, the upstairs clerk tells me this floor is just for competitions they are tight fitting and you should go downstairs. No swim shorts for me or my 8 year old granddaughter on the 2nd floor. Was I too fat or too brown for the 2nd floor. I bought gear last year w better customer service. However, I am forced to downgrade due to poor HR management, which thinks one cashier is sufficient despite a long line of customers waiting to check out. Adam Cunning is doing a fantastic job organizing and leading weekly bike rides from the WC store on Tuesday evenings. We started going to the junction but when North Gate closed he created a new 25 mile road route, with climbing, that loops through Moraga and ends at Mike Hess brewing. It's now officially the Taco Tuesday ride because Antijo's does $1 tacos and Mike Hess gives a beverage discount if you go next door to get tacos. We had a great group last night and were even joined by folks who couldn't make the ride but wanted to hang with the group after. Adam's passion for cycling shines through and he does a great job supporting this group and making everyone feel welcome. Have already recruited several friends to join! Find the ride on Strava in the Sports Basement WC Cycling Club. Route is posted and you can RSVP there / sign the waiver. 5:30 meet time with 5:40 departure. We made it back to Mike Hess by 7:30 and most stayed till 9! read more

One stop shopping is my favorite! We stopped in on our way to Heavenly Ski Resort & Rented a full ski package for Bridgette and a complete snowboard setup for me. Prices were reasonable, $40 a day advertised but around $65 with Fred each (we added helmets and Bridgette needed goggles too) I was delighted that they didn't charge for the pickup day or drop off day making it all the more affordable to not tote my gear here from Denver. The staff was very knowledgeable and the process was super quick. The return process was easy and straightforward. PJ was efficient and friendly when we stopped in today. They had a huge selection and great deals on everything. It was a huge timesaver since we are heading to Hawaii next. We were able to grab extra snorkel gear and cute water proof accessories for our next adventure! I will definitely be back to rent when I ride the slopes later this season. read more

Been here a few times and the thing I have probably purchased the most was cleats for softball. They do have some good running shoes here too and a lot of camping stuff. Not going to lie though, they are more expensive than say Dicks up the road or Big 5. But yeah, there are long lines, I don't know why because there's lot of employees walking around. But they got rid of the shoes donation they used to have in the front of the store, I was always donating shoes to that, it was convenient for me and I always seems to have lots of extra shoes to donate (lol, I don't know why). If you play softball across the street I know they used to some some deal you could get, I don't know if they still do that (as I don't play in WC anymore) but that was okay. Good parking lot though, easy in and out. read more

I've been calling around places in the Bay Area to learn about their policy if you buy ski boots, custom inserts, a boot fit. I spoke with Jeff over phone on 2/1/25. He said they would allow an exchange or refund within 6-8 months if ski boots had issues. I called back on 2/2/25 to speak with a manager for clarity. While waiting for 15 mins, I got the following responses Hector said, it's 90 days Sebastian and Aber stated there isn't a policy. 4 store employees with 4 different responses. You've been warned that this place may be money grabbers because if you can't guarantee the work by your boot fitters, then it may not be a great experience in the first place. read more
