The entire time my husband was walking/trying the shoes on we had a bunch of what appeared to be loss prevention folks near us and following us all the way to the paying line. Didn't they feel dumb that we were NEVER going to steal anything and were in fact paying for the shoes. Truly unacceptable, unnecessary, and even felt racist. No further comment.

Shoutout to Eugene for convincing me to spend my $15k somewhere else. I recently had a bike destroyed in a bike-car accident, so I went to RA planning to buy a helmet and potentially a new bike. When Eugene asked what brought me in, I told him I needed a helmet and was looking at bikes since mine had been destroyed. He laughed and asked if I was planning to just walk around wearing a helmet. After I explained the accident, he apologized. I mentioned I liked the Dogma X and said my budget was around $12-13k (I was realistically open to $15k). His response was: "That's out of your price range. Let's look at something cheaper." When I repeated that I liked the bike, he ignored it and moved on. Then he asked my bike size. I had just been professionally fitted at Innersport and was recommended a 49 frame. When I told him that, he laughed and said, "I'm sorry, but you're not a 49." When I told him I had just been fitted, he responded, "I can't imagine anyone recommending you a 49. I'm not entertaining that you're a 49." I had to pull up my fitting measurements before he reluctantly admitted I could "pass as a 49." The whole interaction was belittling and embarrassing. I've heard people describe the shop as having a "bro" culture that can feel unwelcoming, and that's exactly how this experience felt. In the end, I left without buying anything and instead went to Capdata in Concord, where I ordered a Factor Ostro VAM with SRAM Red, a helmet, and other gear. RA carries beautiful bikes, but if you're looking for respectful service, my experience suggests you may want to shop elsewhere.

At one point, the kids were fighting with one another with rocks. Even after being spoken to, the kids were allowed to retaliate further by urinating right next to another group of kids who were eating snacks. This was acceptable behavior. The camp counselors were also allowed to jump on their bikes over the kids heads. Again, this was seen to be acceptable. We will not be returning to this camp.

Anyways, we headed over to California Bike & Snowboard and the difference was crazy. We were greeted, and they were busy. The person took time to greet everyone, though they were short staffed. They took time to answer all of our questions. Grabbed the house bike helmet and had my wife take a test ride right away. The iron horse trail is right behind their shop. After she came back, they asked even more questions, and was able to give my wife different quotes and expectations for the E-bike. Overall, great experience. We were replacing a gas water heater with a hybrid electric heat pump water heater. Generally, this…read moretype of heater costs twice as much (price and installation) as a traditional electric water heater, but costs a lot less to run (and therefore you recoup the additional cost in a few years from lower operating costs). I had a very easy experience getting an on-site quote. I received 3 quotes for this job. 2 quotes, including this one, came in around $7100. I went with a third one at around $6700 (which included an additional mixing valve) and am very happy with my decision. Overall price was not a big part of my decision, but brand of water heater was. After doing some research online, the most recommended brands are AO Smith and Rheem (GE). Both higher quotes were for Navien, which has only been making heat pump water heaters for 1 year, but I was told that it is the most reliable brand. I did not understand how this claim could be made, given how short the duration of evaluation for this product. Even the worst appliances usually work for at least a year. So I requested a quote for AO Smith or Rheem, which I did not get. I'm not sure why my brand request was not honored, but it made me question whether I should go with a company that either has communication issues or maybe some type of deal with Navien that I was not informed about. Many water heater installers are preferred installers of certain brands, which means they can get better pricing, etc. I did not want to be a guinea pig for Navien.

However, in that time he shored up a leak with a temporary patch and had an estimate of how much work it would be to take care of everything, which ended up being much more reasonable than some other places we evaluated. Adam came back when he had enough open schedule to fix everything and some parts were shipped in. An incredibly nice guy, and just an incredibly fair and integrity oriented operation. All the vendors I evaluated were five stars with many reviews, but Letts was the only one that didn't feel like I was being upsold and he was just out there to help me solve my problems. Honestly can't wait to hire them again, which is an absurd thing to say about a plumber, but man what a great experience. I will rave about them to anyone who will listen.

This is a problem, because: 1. Each time I emailed, a different person answered. Probably 20 emails over 1 week were arranged before I could get a quote and schedule cleaning. Because emails would usually arrive late at night or around 2-4AM, I guessed the emailers were located outside of the US. 2. Phone calls are not effective. Email info could easily have been conveyed in a 5-minute phone call, but when I called, the representative didn't know anything about scheduling. 3. A third-party cleaner comes to your house. This means there isn't consistency in quality. The cleaners complained that there was too much work and that it would take a 2-person team 4 hours to do the work (clean 1.5 bathrooms, put about less than 10 dishes in the dishwasher). One worker did dishes only during this time (at $40/hr, that's about $4/dish). The other cleaned the bathrooms. And of course they finished in less than 1 hour. 4. Communication with the third-party cleaner was poor. After all the time I spent emailing about what would be included, none of the details they asked about were conveyed. This was part of the time I paid for, because 1 worker called their supervisor to try to get out of doing the work.

I have used Encina Bike repair twice. Once I needed a bolt for an old Biancci road bike seat. Had the part in a box of extra parts and wam bam it was installed and I was on my way. The second time I lost a crank bolt from my GT Avalanche 2.0.The bold had come loose three times before, but I had never lost it. I stoped at all of the bike shops (5) near my house. None had the needed bolt. I stopped at Sports Basement. They said nope, but you should check Encina. I did and they had the bolt in stock. I asked if the bolt needed lock-tite on it. The bike tech said if I did that it would likely never get it out again. He suggested a small amount of oil on the bolt and proper torqe tightining would work. To this day the crank bolt has not come loose again. And both repairs were done free of charge...WTH, Guy let me pay you for the parts? Labor? No it's ok, Just come back if you need anything else, or tell your friends about us... read more

Absolutely top-notch service. Sunday at 5:00pm I had a malfunction. Found out the shop was open until 6:00 so I jetted over to DROP OFF the bike for repairs, expecting to pick it up some time during the week. The young man who met me at the door listened to my issue, then took the bike back to the shop and started working on it right then. I was impressed. He fixed the original issue but doing a far more serious issue with the headset. He asked me a couple questions on how the bike sounded going over a bump, then explained what was causing the sound I heard. He then fixed it. I had arrived around 5:30 fully expecting to leave it, and walked out at 6:00 with my original repair plus a needed repair that most likely saved my frame. Big thumbs up for these guys. read more

Not pertaining to this Shop, but its affiliate the Clayton Bikes Stunt team Manager. Someone needs staple his mouth shut , he is creating drama on our Local Claycord.com website. He is not very bright in his "wise" decision to talk crap, then use Claycord.com to advertise for his upcoming show. A Mr James Brom to be frank.. Mr "Mayor" of claycord was mature and deleted said postings, but I did catch that last night and was very disturbed that this "man" thinks its ok to go around creating Drama and thinking its ok... I brought my tallboy in the other day for service and they had a great turnaround time. Chris worked on my bike and was very helpful and communicated with me very well, he did a great job. Ian then helped me with picking out a dropper post and was very helpful and knowledgeable. All the recommendations he made were spot on. I couldn't have asked for better service. Their service keeps me coming back for more. I've found bike shops have bike techs and bike techs are inherently laid-back. If that is an "attitude" in your definition (other reviewers), so be it. If I make the wrong choice in picking a bike or part, they tell it like it is, if that is an insult, I'd rather be insulted with truth than later find out I made the wrong choice by being praised. Common sense, and Encina Bicycles has yet to let me down in that respect. Support your local bike shop. read more

They are a busy place, but if you're willing to be patient they will get to you. They can only help so many people at once. I love the bike I bought there. They guy that helped me was awesome! Today they called, and during the call I asked whether the seat with the backrest was included in the order, since the price did not reflect that. I was told that the seat was only for the trike. Whoever called me on 8/17 got upset and said, why not just cancel the order and that they would refund me since that seat was not for the XP4. I went to the main company website and found it under accessories for the XP4 and ordered it. I found that this particular shop is not very informed about the product. I realized I knew more about what I was ordering than they did. I recommend ordering through the online store on the main site. I hope repairs and support are better than sales.

The $250 bike fit was not worth it. Here are my critiques:…read more A. The diagram of results I received was confusing and incorrect. First, the labeling of saddle height was incorrect. It showed a purely Y coordinate on the diagram. Second, (this is a less obvious but still important issue) the measurement from tip of saddle to shifter trough is error-prone. By this I mean: maybe I do it one way, maybe you do it another. I looked around my hoods and there was nothing obvious to pinpoint, given the curvature of the area. A photo and specific written instruction might help. I couldn't find any online usage of the term to clarify. Here's my suggestion: to optimize for customer experience, it would be much better to use the same shift levers as the customer (Ultegra levers are super common) and give a clearer label, such as: "distance from saddle tip to closest part of the shifter hood" B. I was disappointed that the results were not printed out right away as I walked out of the shop. Worse, there was a 3 day delay before I received the write-up. C. I expected a more thorough fit. For example: - Andres didn't measure my feet or look at my cleats until I asked. - He didn't measure leg length. - He didn't measure my arms or shoulders. D. I think some aspects of the fit were dubious. For example, Andres told me that a higher speed/cadence in a particular position is a valid way to claim that one position is better than another. Here's how I understand it: when using a bike ergometer set to a particular wattage, power is power. A higher or lower cadence (say 75 versus 80) is not a valid way to say one position is better than another. (To put it another way, rotational power equals torque times revolutions per minute. When using a constant-power setting on an ergometer, if I'm spinning 5% faster, I'm also applying 5% less torque.) Overall, this has not been a satisfying experience given the $250 price and delays. While I generally appreciate Andres' expertise, time, and effort, this was not a $250 bike fit. It was worth about half of that, at most. I shared this feedback with Andres in August 2019, but he has not yet responded. So I'm posting here in the hopes that other potential customers can either (a) get a better fit elsewhere or (b) Andres can improve the value of his bike fit.

A friend had recommended Rhythm so I stopped by, and Jesse immediately recognized the issue as a common problem that we could warranty as soon as I handed over the bike. We scheduled the FD warranty replacement quickly, and also some more service for later since the bike was long overdue for a lot of maintenance. The second major service later was where they really went above and beyond. - There was no headset maintenance scheduled, but they noticed that the headset had come loose way too soon after they last saw the bike, and something wasn't right. - Jake spent a lot of time going back and forth with the frame builder on the headset issue, and got them to ship out some replacement headset parts. - When the maintenance was scheduled, Jake got really sick. Knowing the havoc this wreaks on shop schedules, I was fully prepared to wait at least another few days for my bike. - But Jesse put in a TON of extra time and effort to make sure my bike still got out the door on time. - When I picked it up, he explained all the little tweaks he had done (like packing the grease more than usual and leaving a little extra brake hose) to account for my riding style and make maintenance easier in the future. The bottom line is that a lot of shops would have just done the scheduled maintenance and left it at that. But they really put in the effort to make sure nothing was missed and communicated the situation at every step of the way. If you have a really nice bike and want to be confident that it's well taken care of, I would take it here.

When my mountain bike seemed FUBAR after a weekend of barreling down singletrack in Plumas National Forest, they fixed her right up and upgraded her brakes. This past summer, they hooked my husband up with a super sick new dual-suspension mountain bike so that he could join me on the trails. Most recently, my beloved Trek road bike needed a tune-up. At 4'9" tall, my bike is teeny tiny and needed a custom wheel build. Jesse did a ton of research, put together my new wheel system, and now riding my 17-year-old bike feels like I'm riding on clouds, smooth as silk. I can't recommend these guys enough!
