Two weeks ago we purchased a Trek Marlin 5 ($650) for my 13 yr old son (all of 85 lbs). After one week, one of the pedals froze, and so I took the pedal to Encina to get it replaced. The "kid" that was working there told me I'd have to send it to Trek for the warranty. I told him that I bought it here and that I think the warranty should lie with the bike shop. He insisted it didn't. I asked him if he could just swap the pedals so my son could ride his bike that weekend. He said "no". Then he told me that those pedals are "cheap anyway". For a $650 bike? He wouldn't give me a set of pedals when I asked him to stand by the products they sell. I asked him to take one off of another bike so they can cover their warranty with Trek. He refused that too. So I said you'll never do business with me again, and I'll make sure my sons friends parents know about this too. I ended up buying $50 Crankbrothers Stamp 0 Pedals from REI and they work fantastic. I'll never do business with Encina Bikes again. Worst customer service. They just lost a 15 year customer. read more

Went in to get my tires changed. While I was there they upsold me on a "tune up," which I figured was fine. Picked up the bike and went out for a ride and my chain snapped. I replaced the chain and checked the derailleurs and found they were misaligned, which wasn't an issue before I brought the bike in. I don't have much confidence in the quality of their work. I'd recommend going somewhere else. read more

I don't know whats up with this place. Even though I bought my bikes here and spent well over $1000, whenever I walk in, they don't seem to have any interest in helping me. I try to be nice and say Hi how are you? But second time now, they replace my tire with the wrong size tire. First my kids bike, now mine. They insist the 32 will fit on my 35 rim. And when I got the bike back they didn't inflate either tire! I think the new tire was put on wrong and the 32 is not right. Now I'm waiting to see if it gets flat after a while. Seems like other reviews are positive. Maybe coming in as an Asian male puts them off or something. I don't know why they seem so hindered when I come in for help. read more

I've been thinking about getting into cycling but have basically no experience outside riding a city bike around town over a decade ago. I went in to look around and ask some questions. Everett helped me out and pointed me towards a bike that I was able to test. He was super chill and gave me honest answers to all my questions, pointing me in the right direction for a bike, helmet, shoes, and bib. Really exactly what I needed since I'm very new to bikes and had never ridden a road bike before today. All in all a great experience. I'll be back again once I'm ready to buy. read more

I was in Walnut Creek for a few days for work reasons and had a half day free to explore. I rented an e-bike from here and the experience was great! Easy reservation process, easy to Uber to & from the location for bike pick up and drop off, easy and safe access to all of the nearby trails and canals in Walnut Creek. My experience in actually picking up and returning the bike was great as well- quick, easy, and the guys at the shop were friendly! The e-bike was great. Would recommend to others and would use again if I am in Walnut Creek in the future. read more

I found out about this place since my friend comes here for tune-ups and had nothing but great things to say about them -- great, dependable + trustworthy service and everyone is super nice. I moved a few months ago and somewhere in the shuffle, I guess a piece of my mountain bike decided to die. (I have no idea how it managed to chip off the way that it did.) It is a small but mighty piece, and quite essential to holding the front wheel where it should be, so I definitely needed a replacement. The guy (I am terrible with names but I believe he owns the place) found the piece for me despite my vague description and just gave it to me for free! (He is a most wonderful soul.) I ended up purchasing a water bottle holder because I'm trying to be less of a cactus (an investment to health!). If you buy a bike from them, it comes with lifetime free service!? What the what!? Seeing as I already have a mountain bike, if I were to get anything here, it would be a road bike. They are unfortunately (fortunately for my bank account tho) low in stock on those right now though, so I have some time to mull it over. Will update if I end up getting one! read more

I needed a specific Fox shock Rezi can adapter. I checked with four other bike shops close to me, none had it. Finally called Encina, they had the tool and told me to come in. Was helped right away when I got there. Not only did they help me with the tool, but they noticed my shock needed a re-bleed. They helped me with that too! Steven is AWESOME! Very knowledgeable! Very helpful! I had issues with my bike and they held me in less than 1 to fix it, adjusting the front wheel and both brakes.

Bought my bike here so get free servicing but service is so poorly done and so difficult that I'm going to go elsewhere and just pay. To illustrate, I brought the bike in for a standard tune-up and noted that the derailleur needed to be adjusted as I had dropped the bike. They didn't fix it and I had to then get it fixed elsewhere. They also insist that you bring the bike in for an assessment and then make a separate trip to leave it, even if you have an appointment. I have had bikes for 25 years and never had such poor experiences. read more

Although it's very expensive, this is a good shop to buy bikes and parts only. Don't even consider bringing your bike here for a service. I made that mistake twice and done with them. First one was more than a year ago, they diagnosed the vehicle and prepared a list for what needed to be fixed. When they said it was ready, I was surprised and pissed to find out, more than half of those items were not even touched. Lately, a few months ago I bit the bullet and took another bike there for a tune-up. Same story, diagnostic, to-do list, etc. When I picked the bike I realized that the tires were flat, not deflated, just flat with holes. The entire bike squeaks and creaks, they did not oil any necessary parts at all. Front wheel wobbles, it's hard to control the bike during ride. Changing the gears is not smooth, makes a lots of noise and sometimes it doesn't change into the correct gear. Well, what else? I am not sure how they last so long in this business. read more

I went in to purchase a small part that I called ahead to have ready at the counter. We are very careful about covid. I was disappointed to find that not only did they not set my item at the counter but several employees are either not wearing masks at all or the mask is being worn below nose level. The cashier rang me up with his nose and part of his mouth exposed and I had to ask him to fix it before approaching. This is uncomfortable from a safety standpoint and from a social standpoint as well. Regardless of how you feel about covid, this is a blatant disregard for the safety and comfort level of their customers. I hope this review helps them to realize the issue and to fix it. read more

I recently purchased a new Specialized Turbo Levo e-bike. It has an electronically shifting derailleur. On my first ride it was shifting erratically and making a lot of noise. I spent hours trying to get it adjusted and finally gave up and took it to Encina. I wish I could remember the technicians name because he was excellent. He spent about 15 minutes and had the bike dialed. Not only that, but he explained everything he was doing while he did it. I was blown away when he charged me $15.00. I was so shocked I just left after paying, but looking back, I think I should have tipped him. Next time I go in, he's getting a tip. I highly recommend this bike shop. read more

Great shop with excellent customer service. Bought a new bike and they were extremely helpful with the questions I had for them. When the bike arrived, they gave me a run down on proper maintenance and adjusted the suspension and tire pressure for my weight and filled my head with plenty of knowledge. Several weeks later I dropped off my wheels to switch to tubeless and they did it on the spot and gave me some more pointers on maintaining the tubeless setup. I took my bike in for a check-up and to learn a bit about investing in a new bike. While one gentleman tended to my current bike, another assisted in educating me a bit about what type of bike would be best suitable for me - not to make a sale, but to share his knowledge - how refreshing! I drove a long way to pick up a bike part from them, after I checked availability online and called them to confirm, and they said it was available. Got to their shop, 1st they completely ignored me standing at the counter, but helped others that came in after me, then I asked someone for the part, all I got was "It's over there." I stated, I called, and I was told it was available!? Same response, it's over there, that's what we got", no effort to check, nothing. So, I walked out and gabbed some pizza from the place next door with the family. I asked my wife if she can go in ask for the part, so just like that she came out with the part I was requesting. In my opinion, the only difference was that my wife is 5 shades light than I am, so enough said. read more

I bought my Specialized levo mountain bike at Encina bicycles shop. They are connected with Clayton bicycle center. Both places are fantastic. The store service people are very friendly and very knowledgeable. I especially want to thank Jeff and Joey. Those guys are awesome and they let me try out different bikes to get a feel first. When you buy a specialized mountain bike they cover the service labor cost. I had my first service done at the Clayton bicycle shop and they did a fantastic job. They go above and beyond to make sure you are taken care of. It was the first ebike I've ever purchased. I have back, neck and knee issues so they guided me to a full suspension e-bike, which was definitely the way to go for me. I can finally get some mobility and freedom, while exercising easier with less pain. Remember to ask if there are any specials going on and you could get a good discount. So I went into this bike shop with my 12 year old son to get new brakes for a bike I had gotten for him.we stood there for at least 45 min at one point walked around saw a few more things he like and was willing to spend a decent amount of money but not one employee approached me and ask if I needed help the whole time! Walnut Creek location -- non existent customer service, might as well replace them with AI robots who can be programmed to help people find out what the right bike for them, I'm not spending my hard earned money there even if It's only a measly amount. Who knows they're probably having a bad day but that's no excuse. As a beginner who needed help with a bike choice and Im ready to buy, left a bad taste because I tried to go out of my way to go there, and I try to get out of the house because I wanted to exercise to get healthier and better. so i've been here before, along time ago with my friend Wilson; he used to have a lot of friends work here and always recommended these guys but I never really had a need. Until today. Not only did they take care of my need, but they went above and beyond. I was riding LimeRidge on my Crosscheck when I broke the bolt holding my saddle in place, which also by the way loosened my rear brakes; what a stupid design that is. I pulled up a map and realized encino bike's, while not the closest, were open the latest so i called the guy up, explained my problem and he said he could help me, so I hobbled my way down treat over there. They took me in and fixed me up right away .. The shop was clean and everyone seem to be working hard; it was a very comfortable environment. since it was just a bolt they didn't charge me anything for their time and I was going to buy a bag for my bike anyway online but decided to thank them and buy it from them; The price difference was negligible. tldr; a solid bike shop with good employees who want to get you back on your ride right away.
