I really like the bikes this shop carries, but the service reputation unfortunately proved true during my visit last weekend. Shoutout to Eugene for convincing me to spend my $15k somewhere else. I recently had a bike destroyed in a bike-car accident, so I went to RA planning to buy a helmet and potentially a new bike. When Eugene asked what brought me in, I told him I needed a helmet and was looking at bikes since mine had been destroyed. He laughed and asked if I was planning to just walk around wearing a helmet. After I explained the accident, he apologized. I mentioned I liked the Dogma X and said my budget was around $12-13k (I was realistically open to $15k). His response was: "That's out of your price range. Let's look at something cheaper." When I repeated that I liked the bike, he ignored it and moved on. Then he asked my bike size. I had just been professionally fitted at Innersport and was recommended a 49 frame. When I told him that, he laughed and said, "I'm sorry, but you're not a 49." When I told him I had just been fitted, he responded, "I can't imagine anyone recommending you a 49. I'm not entertaining that you're a 49." I had to pull up my fitting measurements before he reluctantly admitted I could "pass as a 49." The whole interaction was belittling and embarrassing. I've heard people describe the shop as having a "bro" culture that can feel unwelcoming, and that's exactly how this experience felt. In the end, I left without buying anything and instead went to Capdata in Concord, where I ordered a Factor Ostro VAM with SRAM Red, a helmet, and other gear. RA carries beautiful bikes, but if you're looking for respectful service, my experience suggests you may want to shop elsewhere. read more

My partner and I came in wanting to buy new bikes and the store was beautiful! We unfortunately left empty handed as we weren't acknowledged by any of the 3-4 employees in the store the entire time we were there. We had been to 3 different bike stores today and this by far had the worst customer service. There were plenty of staff to help- really hoping other POC don't get the same service. This is a phenomenal (and beautiful) store - it almost has an Apple Store vibe. But I am writing this review in regards to the bike fitting I just had there, with Tim. I had another bike fitting years ago in Seattle, which was great, which was why I wanted one for my new bike. But the experience here really blew me away - at a totally different level than my previous one. Tim is also an expert physical therapist, and it really shows in the fitting process. He evaluated my flexibility, strength, etc. etc. before even putting me on the bike. I am confident the plan for new parts and adjustments we made will make a huge difference. read more

I was worried when I moved to the East Bay that I wasn't going to be able to find a good bike shop and then I found R and A Cycles. I won't mention any names as I'm sure I'm going to forget someone but everybody I have been in contact with has been very helpful. I was able to get a fitting done right before I ordered my custom Cervelo. They also do a great job servicing both my Cervelo and Pinarello. They also show a lot of patience as I asked many questions when ordering my bike. They also do a good job of never trying to sell you more bike then you need. I trusted them with my bike & to my surprise, they messed up in service. My bike was working well before, I had taken it to Mt Diablo too. I requested a guy to check everything as my century ride is coming up and he said we will degrease all, for which they charged me a good amount. On my century ride day, my smaller chain ring broke (and my bike was just 9 months old), I took my bike to another service shop and he showed me that they didn't put two bolts properly on a smaller chain ring. They messed my first-century ride experience and also cost me double the amount of fixing my new bike. It is a really bad shop with the good salesman and bad service folks. I will never recommend this shop to anyone. read more

I wanted a new bike, to upgrade from my Specialized aluminum frame, so I did some research online and realized the bikes I was interested in could only be found locally at R&A, so I stopped by. Don't expect to be harassed by a salesperson, I actually looked around for 15 mins and then asked to be helped. A young man, Iggy, was more than helpful. I think on the first visit he spent over an hour with me narrowing down my choices, and we actually got to a bike that wasn't on my list, the Argon 18 Krypton Pro. Iggy was so kind and so knowledgeable, answered every question I had w/ no angles, a true expert that helped me make the right choices. I ended up coming back for a test ride, which was amazing, and realized this was the bike for me. Made a couple upgrades (new handle bar and a power meter) and I had the bike home a week later. Thought it would take a couple weeks for some of the upgrades, but it didn't, and the day they arrived, Iggy had them on. When I picked it up, Iggy had the bike set up to my specs from my last fitting for my old bike, and it was perfect...he took me through the entire bike and how to break it down and maintain it, was pretty f'in awesome and helpful. But it didn't stop there, Iggy is so timely in his emails and when I had questions after a ride or two, he answered them the same business day. (keep in mind they are closed Sunday/Monday) He also offered to let me swing by in May prior to my century ride for a quick look to make sure everything was tight. I brought my 13 year old carbon Fondriest TF1 with Campagnolo Record 10 speed for maintenance. The bicycle is better than new. Smooth as butter. They also corrected the brake pads I was using on my carbon rims. They were carbon friendly brakes but they had the perfect match to my Reynolds wheels. She brakes so much better and smoother. This is the best shop I've been to in the Bay Area! Excellent inventory and showroom. They even have a cool cafe attached. They had the bike I wanted, the wheels, and just about everything else while I was looking around(pretty rare in the current market). If they don't they are happy to help get the ball rolling on actually getting the product. I was helped out by Jenner who was very knowledgeable with all the questions I had. There were two employees helping folks at the front, but when we entered, no greeting, no nod, no acknowledgement whatsoever, they looked our direction and that was it. Ok. I walked into this store a few weeks ago and was blown away!! I talked w Jenner on an new Pinarello. So I ordered a bike. Made an appointment to be fitted and had the pleasure of working with Dimas. He gave men some great advice and figured out a set up. Then he mentioned they had stock a Pinarello Paris that I may like and may suit my needs better. This was on Friday.
