Thank you so much for helping me to navigate through your sports frames and lenses. I bought a pair of Mt. Falcon frames with your proprietary lenses and I have to say they are fantastic.  In fact, I cannot believe how good these are compared to a pair of curved lenses I bought from a national manufacturer.  These are flawless.  I bought them to play pickle ball indoors in the evening because my regular glasses were sliding all over the place and I was constantly adjusting them.  Also, sweating was just ruining the frame.  After I found out they were safety rated, I also took them to the gun range to skeet shoot.  I think this really helped my shooting because they were not sliding all over the place and the lens clarity was phenomenal.  The one thing I would tell any buyer that is going to use these for sports or shooting is to not get bifocals and just distance correction like you recommended.  Several years ago, I heard from a tennis pro that it is very difficult to play tennis in bifocals, but I never paid attention to that advice previously.  Alex, told me the same thing. I was really nervous just putting distance correction in the frames because I was afraid they would not be functional, but they are far superior to any frame and lens that I have ever used- and I have owned quite a few frames and lenses. read more

I can't say enough great things about this business. I will try to be detailed as I can. When I walked in someone greeted my pretty quick, I forget his name but there was ZERO pressure, he answered all my questions, didnt interupt me, as Im sure, he has heard most of my questions hundreds of times before. I told him what I wanted, Oakley flank with Transitions, and I wanted the progressive bi-focals, why I wanted them, he said they would have to send those off to cali to get made, it would take about 3 weeks to get back. I said that would be fine, I asked what the out the door price be? he told me, I said that was to much that I could get the exact same thing online for lots less, he asked where? I told him, he said yea, you're right. So I asked, do you offer a military discount? he said yes, and gave me the new OTD price, my reply was "Lets do it" he said great. So I paid in full right there. Normally I would only like to pay for a deposit at this point but the sales guy was great, not pushy, polite and just seemed he wanted to help so I had no issues. He told me it would be about 3 weeks for them to come in and they will call and email when the glasses are here. They came in a week early, I got the call and email. Two of us went to Sports Optical to get prescription shooting glasses. Everyone there was very helpful in showing us the options and making suggestions. We were able to take different colored lenses outside to help deciding what would suite our needs. Once the glasses were ready Brett was especially helpful in fitting them properly. Unfortunately, one lens did not seem quite right for me. After wearing them several times I returned to the store with my concerns. These guys are amazing. I have a high prescription (-6.00 in one eye) and Sports Optical managed to make prescription lenses for a pair of Oakley Turbine's (Base Curve 8..Whoa!) with 0 distortion. I've actually had an easier time adjusting to these than a new pair of flat lens prescription glasses. Oakley actually turned me away and said my prescription was too high. Is calling Bret, the owner of Sports Optical a "miracle worker" overkill? My eyes and wind don't work well together. So when I do high-speed activities (like ski or bike) my contacts dry up and fall out. Which is a problem during high-speed activities. So when I took up triathlons this past year, I was having all kinds of trouble keeping my contacts in my eyes. When I say I tried everything--I mean I tried everything! Finally, I went to Bret at SO. He was super knowledgeable, had a great selection of eyewear, and was really patient and committed to finding me some eyewear that worked. He always said "We'll find you something that will work" and he was totally right. If you are an athlete who needs sports eyewear THIS is the place to go. Also, if you're looking for some sweet prescription non-athletic eyewear SO has some really cool designer eyewear that you won't find anywhere else. Those various other lens solutions and waxes, of which I have tried many, very quickly wash off in the sea water. Fast one-day turnaround, reasonable fee and express shipment to me while on travel. This review is long overdue. I purchased my last pair of glasses from here a while back and was thoroughly impressed with the selection, service and value. I didn't say price, I said value and for a reason. If you want a pair of ho-hum glasses that will break in a year that no one will notice and costs less than $120 including a second pair for free, try Wal-Mart. Keep in mind though, they'll charge you extra for all the little add-ons and hidden fees. This is not Wal-Mart. The prices on lenses are very comparable though, but the frames will cost you more... but for good reason. The styles and quality of the frames are light-years ahead of the chains, and compared to other boutique eye wear shops, this place is a steal. I know because I was desperate and needed glasses quickly, so I bought some Paul Frank's (that people still comment on almost daily). I was curious and went home and shopped to see what they were going for elsewhere. He probably could have gouged me, but as it turned out... I saved about $90. With those savings I could go buy a pair of crap frames at Wal-Mart. ... I won't, but I could. read more

I was so impressed by Sports Optical after my first visit there several months ago. I live in the neighborhood and stopped in to check out what they offered in terms of prescription eyewear. Brett was knowledgeable and helpful and I decided that I would definitely come to him for my next pair of glasses. I love the fact that they offer special glasses that can easily be converted to computer glasses. As I am also a contact lens wearer, I depend on sunglasses. I buy a new pair of good sunglasses every 8-10 years and take very good care of them. I've owned several types over the years including Ray-Ban, Revo, Oakley and Maui Jim. I personally prefer Maui Jim sunglasses because of the fit, the durability and the quality of the lenses (personal preference). I decided it was time to replace my sunglasses and stopped in to Sports Optical to see what they offered. They have several sunglasses displays in the store. I informed the salesperson that I need to buy new sunglasses and asked if they carried Maui Jim. He replied that they don't carry Maui Jim because it's part of Luxottica, implying that they ONLY support independent manufacturers. Hmmm, I thought, that doesn't seem right. Based on Internet research I confirmed that Maui Jim is an independent manufacturer (not part of Luxottica). Also, Oakley (the brand that Sports Optical sells) is in fact part of Luxottica. So much for supporting independent manufacturers. Honestly, I was pretty pissed off about my experience so I decided to call the store to let them know that their salesperson had given me the wrong information. I was not angry nor accusatory in any way. I just let her know that I had been given wrong information and that I was disappointed because I just wanted to do business with a local store. She was completely unapologetic and basically just said that yes, they sell Oakley which is part of Luxottica and they don't like Maui Jim. Period... I have been buying glasses and sunglasses from Bret at Sports optical for over 15 years since he was located off of 6th Ave in Lakewood. He is a true craftsman when it comes to making a shaping a lens to whatever you'd like. I had a pair of half framed sunglasses, and didn't like how the stock lens quite covered my face. When it came down to getting the prescription lenses made Bret was able to change the lens shape to extend a little in a couple of different directions to give me the coverage I was looking for. I wear my prescription glasses for golf, shooting, bird hunting, cycling and just everyday use. The best thing about Bret's lenses is that there is absolutely no distortion when looking out of any direction of the lens, something that I haven't found with any other lenses, which includes Oakley, Ray-ban and Maui Jim. I have had my vision assisted by lenses since I was 13. Over the years I have never been able to move to contacts which has made it very difficult to wear fashionable or sporty sunglasses. Sports Optical changed all of that. They were able to fit my prescription into a set of Oakley frames that even Oakley said could not be done. They do not look awkward and unless I point it out people have no idea they are prescription. I chose rose lenses with red mirror and they are great all for all around sunny use until sundown. I also have to mention that these guys shipped me glasses to chose from, made my custom lenses and had finished pair in my hands quicker than my local optometrist could put together a standard set of lenses. I was very satisfied with my original purchase of Rudy Project prescription sunglasses. Prompt service and great vision with the glasses. But then these guys went above and beyond just normal good service. I had an accident on my bike and did a face plant. Gouged/scratched both lenses. I contacted Kyle at Sports Optical to see about replacement lenses. Cost was about half of my original purchase price -- pretty good, I thought. Then a few hours later I get another e-mail. Because I had bought a non-scratch coating, they were covered under warranty (I bought them almost 2 years ago). They certainly didn't have to cover an accident that was my own fault.
