I recently moved from Denver, CO and joined Charlotte Athletic Club primarily for the location and…read morewalkability to Uptown. From signup through cancellation, the experience was consistently poor. The signup process was unnecessarily difficult. You cannot sign up online or over the phone and must come in person. I arrived during hours I was told a manager would be present, only to find they had left early, requiring an additional visit to complete enrollment. The gym charges $150 per month per person, with additional costs for lockers, an extra month (extra $150) due on signup, and a facility improvement fee every six months. Despite the price, there is no coat rack or place to store even a jacket. Communication is "you must pay an extra amount for lockers each month" even though lockers are framed as an optional amenity. Charging for lockers in the first place is grubby. Every gym I've attended in the past includes them for free. Pool access is advertised. The pool is actually pool access passes included in membership to the Omni Hotel pool, we were told it was to be opened fall 2025, it has remained closed. This was communicated after signup. The equipment itself is fine, but there is no water bottle refill station, and the water available specifically says "don't fill your water bottle up". It's a gym. Who wants to use a small paper open top cup when working out. Bathrooms are often not clean. If you're coming in in the afternoon for workouts, the gym maintenance and cleaning happens then, so expect some vacuuming and hammering happening most days. But my primary issue is the staff experience relative to the price point. Front desk staff are often disengaged. A trainer instructed us to re rack weights that we didn't use. When we told him they were there before we used the machine he communicated "clean them up anyways". I rack weights when done using them. For $150 a month, if another gym member leaves weights behind, and this is noticed by the staff, I'd expect gym staff to care for the cleanup of other members weights left behind. And especially the first time, just unnecessarily hostile and unfriendly. There are many more similar interactions like this with staff. After I canceled my membership and requested my wife's remain active, a manager approached her requesting credit card information, the implication being "don't forget to pay" in a way that felt inappropriate. This is acceptable at a lower priced gym. Again, it's not what I expect at this price point. This is a premium priced gym with a good location and adequate equipment, but the service level does not match. I'm switching to another gym in the area.

Most players here are serious about improving their game, and many players are quite high level. However, they are friendly and welcoming to newcomers. They also offer table tennis lessons. Thursdays are the wrong evenings to go, since that is their tournament night, and all the tables will be reserved for the competition, and you will only be able to watch. Other times they have enough tables for anyone to play once you know where to find them. Supposedly you should pay a 10 dollar visitor fee, but hard to know who to give it to. They get a great rating due to the friendliness to newcomers and visitors, having good tables and lots of balls. Most people bring their own paddle but they probably have a couple to lend. I would say the club is 90% male.

The ACC does a great job with social media so props to them for being on top of their Yelp page. I reviewed the National Invitation Tournament three years ago (yep, a Yelp listing already existed for them too: https://www.yelp.com/biz/national-invitation-tournament-new-york) and with the ACC getting a record-tying three No. 1 seeds in this year's NCAA men's basketball tournament, I thought why not leave a review for my favorite conference. I was born and raised in High Point, North Carolina which is right next to Greensboro, the city where the ACC was founded in 1953. I grew up on ACC sports, particularly basketball. My mom went to Wake Forest for undergrad and my dad did his residency at the Bowman Gray School of Medicine (now Wake Forest School of Medicine). They met at Wake. My oldest sister went to NC State. I went to Georgia Tech. Several of my cousins went to North Carolina. Many of my friends, from high school and post-college, went to or are affiliated with ACC schools. My first ACC football game was Wake Forest vs. Clemson in elementary school (early 90s). I also went to NC State home football games. My first memory of attending an ACC basketball game was Wake Forest vs. Virginia. I still remember Norman Nolan battling Tim Duncan in the low post as I took my seat in the lower level. Wake's 1995 and 1996 ACC championship teams featuring Duncan (both years) and Randolph Childress (1995) are what got me into basketball. After the Duncan years, I went to Chapel Hill to pull for the Deacs on the road, to Charlotte to watch them play in the ACC Tournament, and to Greensboro to root for them in the NIT. They won the 2000 NIT championship over Notre Dame. Today, I'm a loyal Georgia Tech fan. I've had season tickets to Tech men's basketball games for 14 years running. My 4th year at Tech, we made it all the way to the 2004 Final Four and national championship game. I was in school with Jarrett Jack, Chris Bosh (who was not on the '04 team, but the NIT team the year before), and those guys. I was also in school at the same time as Calvin Johnson and Joe Anoa'i (now known as WWE Superstar Roman Reigns). Since I enrolled at Tech in the fall of 2000, highlights for Tech football have included the 2009 ACC championship over Clemson (I was there in the stands in Tampa) and the 2014 Orange Bowl victory over Mississippi State. When you combine both academic and athletic success, no other collegiate conference comes close to the ACC. Through the 2017-18 academic year, ACC schools' average academic ranking by US News & World Report was 54.2, the highest among all FBS conferences for the 11th straight year. In athletics, the ACC has won three of the last six football national championships (Florida State in 2014, Clemson in 2017 and 2019) and two of the last three. In basketball, the ACC has won nine of the last 17 national championships including two of the last four. Other conferences, like the other Power Five members (Big Ten, Big 12, Pac-12, SEC), are good, but none are as great, when all things are considered, as the ACC. This is the best conference in America. When it comes to talent, the ACC is the best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be. In the NBA Draft, the ACC is the only conference to have had at least four first round picks in each of the past 10 drafts (2009-2018) and extended its streak of having at least one first-round pick to 30 consecutive years (1989-2018). Since 1996, the ACC leads all conferences with 47 lottery picks. In the NFL Draft, the ACC is one of only two conferences to have had at least 40 draftees in four of the last five years. During that time, the ACC has had 234 players drafted, the second-highest number of draftees from any conference. And I didn't even get into the non-revenue sports. Just a couple points: Bobby Jones played golf at Tech and Arnold Palmer played golf at Wake. Tech is a perennially a golf powerhouse. I'll miss the old Raycom Sports coverage of the ACC which is all I knew for the regional telecasts. It ended earlier this month on March 17, 2019 to make way for the new ESPN-backed ACC Network which launches August 22, 2019.

I had been a loyal member of this sauna for almost a year, and my experience ended in a very…read moredisappointing way. When I first joined, the staff themselves would add eucalyptus to the sauna water to create a pleasant aroma. Because that had been their normal practice, I asked if eucalyptus could be added again. Instead, a staff member accidentally added the wrong product, which created a strong burning smell in the sauna. Rather than taking responsibility for their own mistake, they blamed me for what happened and canceled my membership. What disappointed me most was not the mistake itself--everyone makes mistakes--but how it was handled. Instead of acknowledging the error and resolving the situation professionally, they chose to blame a loyal customer who had been coming there for nearly a year. I expected much better customer service and accountability. Unfortunately, based on my experience, I cannot recommend this sauna.

From start to finish and everywhere in between, Ray was in constant communication and very prompt with sending contracts, information on parking, and even suggestions considering this was my first event! Upon arrival chairs and tables were already pulled so we could get right to business setting things up and he checked in once or twice to insure I had everything I might need. Before Ray left he connected me with another employee who would walk me through at the end to make sure everything was back as I found it and that gentleman was very helpful as well making sure we had everything we needed cleared and helped with the door and loading our cart. We were very pleased with the event space (Full gym) and lobby area as well as the convenience of location and couldn't ask for a better venue! Restaurant choices in the stadium were a little scarce + it was mainly fast food. I do understand it's a stadium but it would be nice if there were more than 2-3 options to pick up food. Signage was very confusing especially getting out of the suite to my actual seat. My seat was a few floors down from the suite and it felt like a maze to get to my seat + many agents seemed like they were giving simple directions but it took quite a while to finally figure out the signage and area after asking 4 people.
