I'm surprised at a 4.1 overall, to be honest. A lot of people find Sprague's as an alternative to waiting in line at Red's. I choose it. I grew up in Wiscasset. Red's is good enough but more for the tourists imo. They have "the story" "the hype". It too is a good lobster roll but It was far too expensive for me when I lived there and - while I've been a few times, as an adult, I actually prefer Sprague's. No 45-60 minute wait. The lobster roll is good and a lot less money. Fair price. Good amount of meat. Love the steamers and chowder. Staff is friendly. There is limited parking but plenty of places to sit. Food is cooked quickly and served hot. Plus - there's ice cream on the dock too.

I was in Maine for a half marathon in Portland and decided to do some sightseeing and on my way to the lighthouse, I saw Sprague's. I was like, I'll be back. Saw my lighthouse and to my delight, Sprague's was still open! What I love about this place is the outdoor seating. I was there the first week of October and it was still quiet warm. Sprague's is right on the water so the sunset views was breathless. They are CASH ONLY...but they do have a very expensive ATM onsite. It was almost closing time so I ordered a whole lobster an fries. There is a $2 rental for the lobster cracker thingy but really I didn't need it! The lobster was really good and meaty. The fries were home cut and plentiful! I can't tell you enough about how nice the family/staff is. I think dad is still working at the lobster steaming station. They really left an impression on me on how NICE people from Maine are. Definitely a different vibe from New Hampshire. If I'm ever back in Maine, I'll definitely stop at Sprague's Lobster again and try their other dishes.

AMAZING lobster roll!! On our drive up to Bar Harbor, we drove through Wissacet and saw this spot right off the main road. We pulled in and saw the massive line across the street - for what exactly idk because this was a delicious lobster roll - we got it with hot butter on the side. The lobster was fresh and generous portion. The clam chowder was a bit watery, I'm not sure id order that again, but I'm definitely still daydreaming about the lobster roll!

Roll With the Punches For our antepenultimate lobstah roll here in Maine, we decided where else to try but the famous Red's Eats! Yes, Red's Eats which has been featured in just about every food magazine and in any food show where the subject of sandwiches and/or lobster rolls are mentioned. So, we got in line and waited and waited and within ten minutes the massive line hadn't budged an inch. So we quickly scoped out "this other place" across the street, and noticed the solid Yelp reviews. Well, we were sold and off to Sprague's we went. The Good: *Entire place is all outdoor dog-friendly seating w/ umbrellas. *Unlike Red's, Sprague's has actual riverside views. *The service at the counter was friendly and a little sassy, but a good sassy. *Unlike Red's, there was practically no line here at Sprague's and, what little there was, moved very efficiently. *Cheese fries use a queso instead of melted shredded cheddar--and they were fantastic. *Lobstah Roll was fantastic and was made even more fantastic with their great ambiance on the river's edge. The Meh: *Just like Red's, they too are cash only. *Street Parking only, but we didn't have an issue finding a spot. *Seasonal (Spring - Early Fallish) The Ugly: *Of course since they're cash only, some clever young entrepreneur put an atm machine nearby which was convenient--except the bloody thing didn't work!! Aarrggh!! Now I had to cross the highway not once, but twice. This ain't no easy highway to cross either. Believe you me... 0_o *I don't know what the deal with their chowder was that day, but it was straight up watery like soup and not a nice, thick chowdah. I can't believe this was their variation of a chowder. Something must've definitely gone wrong and we'll Chalk it up to a snafu. Conclusion: Fantastic views, smackin' eats, and no lines made Sprague's a winner in my book. Just be sure to be prepared and bring your own cheddah with you first.

Such a great experience at Sprague's Lobster. Food was great and lobster was really fresh. There was no like (unlike Red's) and actually had a large patio with an ocean view. Only downside is it's cash only, but there's an ATM right on the deck. You could get your lobster roll with either butter or mayo. Service was good and took only about 7 minutes to get a roll.

We drove through on a Monday and while Red's was on my list, this place didn't disappoint. They are smart for being open on Mondays when Red's isn't! I'm guessing they are very similar in taste. And look at this lobster. Huge pieces and tons of it! It was pretty busy but the wait wasn't bad. Right on the water so the whole experience was very pleasant.

Sprague's is always friendly, always amazing food, and never lets you down. The roadside location couldn't be more convenient to picturesque Rt.1, serving as a welcome to the Prettiest Village In Maine, Wiscassett. I always get the fish and chips, but of course the lobster is always fresh and delicious. Plus, there are neat little shops on the dock with it. I love The Potters Shed!

Decided to try Sprague's and so happy we did! We ordered the lobster roll, deep fried green beans and chili cheese fries. The rolls were overstuffed with lobster!! The green beans were delicious along with fries. We will definitely be back!

The best lobster roll I've had in Maine out of the 3 I've eaten. So much lobster on the roll that I had to eat some of it first so I could pick it up. Pricey, but probably half a pound of lobster or more on the roll. This place does an amazing business, a constant line of people. Well deserved!

Sprague's was recommended to us from a local. We waited about 20 min in line. Plenty of tables with shade for the summer swelter. We had our first Maine lobster roll. Plenty of lobster!!! It was overflowing. It was hearty and delicious. We had fresh corn on the cob. Cole slaw portion was small, but a good side option. Based on other locals weighing in, this is a great local option.

What hasn't already been said about the lobster! It's very very good, but don't miss out on the home made fries. They are delicious! We split a lobster roll and small order of fries and couldn't finish it all.

I have always been a huge fan of good lobster, so 4-5 years ago I decided to visit Maine after seeing Red's Eats on the Food Network. I dutifully got in line at Red's at about 11:00, got my food about 1:15. The whole time I was looking across the street at Sprague's; also a lobster shack, but with a very short but steady line. That evening I ate at Sprague's and never looked back. While both had a large amount of lobster in their lobster rolls, Sprague's rolls (same price) were freshly made and buttery crispy on both sides, vs Red's which were soggy. And Sprague's offers a lobster dinner that is beyond compare. I have visited here 1-2X/day during my yearly Lobsterfest week ever since, and will every year until I can't. There is nothing that I don't like.

Be aware, even though we were there on a Thursday and well past the normal lunch hour, the parking was still tough to find and the line was very long. In the end, it took more than an hour to get to the window to order. Once we ordered we sat on one of their deck areas and the food was delivered to us within 10 minutes. That being said it was absolutely worth the experience and wait. We got to chat with one of the owners. Very nice conversation. The lobster rolls and the plated lobster were generous in portions and tasted fantastic! The homemade tartar and cocktail sauces are great. The atmosphere added a lot to the fun as the line to order stayed constant. Definitely worth the visit.

Lobster was overpriced and had a texture like it had been frozen for months. It was way too cold and a bit icy, like they didn't even bother to thaw it before selling it. Carelessly piled on top of a piece of bread for no other reason other than to claim they "pile it high." Like, it's supposed to be a sandwich, not a pile of lobster on bread. The entire thing was tasteless while still managing to taste a bit off. Cash only. Great way to need to use an ATM on your trip because you'll run through it all here for nothing in exchange but a wasted two hours in line. It was close to 7:00 so we asked if we could get food up on the deck and were told yes but there was limited seating. We found seats, the view was beautiful so we planned to get dinner. There was not nearly enough staff but we eventually got drinks. It seemed like no one wanted to take our food order. My husband was finally able to ask a waiter to take our order and we got a rude reply that people with reservations came first. He came back after awhile and told us that we would get better service if we went downstairs to the dining room. He did take our order but made it obvious that he didn't want to. At 9:15 my husband asked him about our food and told him we had been waiting a long time. The waiter was so nasty and told us that he could just cancel our order. He was unwilling to even check to see if our food was coming out soon. He told us that if he did the kitchen would tell him that it would be ready when it was ready. After 45 years in the food industry I recognize that restaurants in Maine get busy in the summer time and I know that it is hard to find help but there is no reason for the rudeness. Don't allow patrons into your restaurant if you are unwilling or unable to wait on them. Yes, it was a holiday, yes it was busy. But don't open your doors if you can't handle a packed restaurant.

The drinks were a bit overpriced in my opinion but as someone who lives in Portland i wasn't surprised they were priced that way. The standout from the meal was definitely the sour dough donut.
