Shuck Station is a great place to go by boat ( or car ) if you're looking for a casual outdoor atmosphere with really good food ! They source the best local oysters . I recommend getting the " taste of the river " oyster platter to see which ones you prefer best. We loved them all. The station fries are also great to start with. I always get their haddock sandwich because it's So good . They grill the sourdough bread which elevates it from every other fish sandwich you get in Maine. You can have the fresh haddock grilled , blackened or fried. The homemade tartar sauce is delicious. A few f my friends had the lobster grilled cheese and loved it. One of them got it with bacon and tomato, too. All of the sandwiches come with a pickle and you can add coleslaw + chips, French fries + coleslaw or station fries + coleslaw for a slight upcharge. There chips are homemade and have quite a bit of pepper on them, FYI. Their station fries are a favorite of ours, but we get them as an appetizer. Their coleslaw is good because it isn't overdressed or creamy. It has a mild, pleasant taste. My cousin had the smash burger and it was a double. It looked tasty. 2 others ordered the tuna poke bowl and would order it on repeat! The service was super friendly . The seating is all outdoor with picnic table seating. The tables are covered with umbrellas, so the sun isn't beating down on you , which is nice. The ground is pebbles and oyster shells which gives it a unique vibe! While in Maine, my wife wanted the experience of trying fresh shucked oysters on the shell, and her research led us to Shuck Station Raw Bar. I was mostly along for the ride, but did go for the Miso Baked Oysters. She wasn't sure she wanted a dozen on her own, but our server Dakota accommodated her by putting in an order for 9 individual raw oysters, all from around the area. I went with the Miso Baked Oysters. She enjoyed them, and mine were tasty, too, if not my usual seafood fare. Scallops sounded good to me, and though they are usually add-ons to their salads and bowls, Dakota put them in as an individual side with my baked clams, which was nice. My Bloody Mary was serviceable, and my wife enjoyed her Stonefruit Spritz. tough, like it is in most smaller towns like Newcastle that are taking on much more traffic than they were designed for. What a wonderful find on our way up the coast of Maine! We didn't have reservations on a Monday at 6pm, but only had to wait about 15 minutes to be seated. Food was solid all around (only drawback was they were out of raw tuna for their poke bowl.) Blackened haddock is spicy and salty and perfect on a salad with no need for dressing. The poke bowl surprisingly didn't have much leafy greens, just carrot, cucumber and avocado, but the flavors all melded well together. Fried haddock sandwich was outstanding and very filling, on buttered and toasted crispy sourdough. Seafood chowder was creamy and not overly salty, as some chowders can be. Happy Friday Adventurers! I was so excited to try this place for my birthday earlier this year and it was amazing. They offer a seasonal cocktail menu (I was there in winter), along with a small menu of bites and dishes. The ambiance is the biggest draw aside from eating fresh oysters. Usually closed during winter they happen to be open when I went (birthday gift to me)! They have a decent-sized lot, and a double yurt so it's much bigger than it looks. They offer limited reservations but do take walk-ins provided they have the space. When traveling alone I generally sit at the bar to enjoy people-watching, this time was no different. I ordered a dozen oysters(delicious), a few cocktails, and local beers. Everything was just perfect--cozy, intimate, warm, and perfect to get the chill out of your bones. We love this place! We're from Minnesota, so we don't get to have perfectly fresh oysters very often. We're here for about a month each year, so we're sure to come here at least once or twice. Its outdoor seating is spacious and the ground is littered with oyster shells which really adds a nice touch to the "ambiance"! The staff is extremely friendly and attentive. We got the fish and chips - the fish was soft and flaky and delicious, though the batter could have been crispier if you ask me. The fish chowder was actually a smash hit, albeit loaded with heavy cream. Man it was good going down the gullet with some oyster crackers! Super tasty, well-seasoned and creamy. The lobster roll was fantastic, even though it was served on a hamburger bun? Strange choice if you ask me, a loyal New Englander, but it tasted fantastic. We were recommended the mayo version and we were glad we got it for sure. The fried oyster tacos were kinda meh. The oysters were soft and creamy but the taste was completely overpowered and masked by the fixings on the taco. The oysters themselves were the star of the show. These were our favorite oysters in all of Maine (and we tried many!!) Make sure to get their orange mignonette which is super yummy and comes in a handy dropper! The blackstone point oysters are literally the best oysters we've ever had. After 10 days of oyster eating, they were starting blend together a bit, but not these! They were the perfect mix of briny and sweet. We also tried the heron island - it was also good, but they are not kidding when they say there is a powerful brine! It's enough to add a few hairs to your chest! Can't remember what we got for the third kind, but they were also delicious lol. I got a banh mi with tofu instead of pork belly, and it was the best vegetarian dish I tried in Maine. The fries were on point. There was no wait, the service was super fast and friendly, and prices were reasonable. You can walk down the street from the shack to a cute little strip in Damariscotta. Really enjoyed this stop. There's a great selection of oysters and they'll help you choose. The area is know for its oysters and you can get tours (I think these folks give them, as well). So you know your food is hyper-local. They were even cutting chives from the little garden they have when we were there. Fresh matters. I had the seafood chowder which was amazing. The potatoes just melt in your mouth with the cream of the shower and there's lots of bits of seafood and fresh, finely chopped veggies. I also had a side of station fries. Lots of flavor and perfectly cooked. My husband had the oysters and he should have tried their special but really was hankering for the Rockefeller, which he ate heartily. A great place for oysters owned by a local oysterman which highlights local oysters with a range of flavor profiles. I also found the service to be quite friendly when I've gone there, though this review is getting dinged for getting my order wrong, which then cost me money. Also, they've shifted all the seating to outdoor seating, so you can get cooked pretty well yourself depending on the sun position. The issue I had is that we got a two tier seafood tower, and a scallop ceviche separately. The only real difference between a two tier and three tier tier is 6 oysters and the ceviche, but we didn't want more oysters or to pay the $40 difference when ceviche is only $14. We got brought a two tier tower and tucked in, then realized there were too many oysters and realized what had happened. In any case, something else to be aware of is that these are local oysters with limited quantities. Go there late in the day and be prepared to have a limited selection left. read more

This year we made the mistake of picking a hightop for a cozy spot, but it apparently was not full service. We've been several times and had great service at the bar and picnic tables. We ordered at the bar and food was brought to us, but at these prices a bit more attentiveness would have been good. We'll choose our seating more wisely next time. Ambiance- always busy, a fun vibe. The food is very fresh and the beer is cold. They often have live music outside. The ambience is just so so. It's sort of next to a gas station. It can get incredibly busy here, which I suppose is a good thing in that the food is going to be fresh and it's a hotspot for a reason. However, it can take a long time to get served. So if you can visit at a slower time, that would be highly recommended. It's also fairly expensive, but hey, you get what you pay for. read more

I rarely suggest going out of the way for a place but this is a winner! We were told they have been open around three years and seem to have perfected the art of promoting and serving some of the best local oysters available! They tell the stories well of where and how they were raised, how they differ and even have charismatic photo portraits of their local oyster farmers on the walls. We had the recommended dozen of the daily special sampler (plus the story behind how they were selected for the special) then followed it up with another dozen that sounded interesting based on staff descriptions. All were super fresh and sweet. Our favorite was a variety farmed in the nearby river at an inter-tidal depth named Norumbega. We also enjoyed the cabbage and seaweed salad (with a delicious light dressing and sprinkled with crispy shallots) and a order of Bao Buns that came with pickled veggies, marinated mushrooms and fried oysters). A little wary at first to try raw oysters on the street but this is Portland...should be safe...and OMG safe and delicious! Best oysters I've ever tasted. Yes even better than Eventide. I tried one at first to see how my stomach fared. Returned the following day to get more. Don't hesitate! Make sure to try his mignonette too - he said he puts leeks in it which give so much flavor. BRING YOUR OWN HORSERADISH! We always loved coming here. This was our first visit to the Shuck Station in 2024. After spending $32 for a dozen oysters we were looking for the mignonette sauce. Our server said they had it but it was 25 cents. Our first dozen oysters came with cocktail sauce but the second platter came with just lemon wedges. When we asked for the cocktail sauce and horseradish, we were told that it's 45 cents. And lucky for us, we got the first cocktail sauce complimentary! I'm sorry but it just feels like they're "nickel and diming" their customers. If you're spending $32 for oysters surely you can give a small cup of cocktail sauce. Ridiculous. The server was great. And we felt bad because she didn't think it was fair either but she had to follow the rules from the management. The oysters were delicious. The haddock tacos were dripping in water from the pico de gallo. The sticky shrimp were nothing special. I feel like something has changed here. But the oysters are still very fresh.
