We came in with the plan to eat two lobster rolls, but the current price is $35. Not wanting to spend close to $100 for our meal (planning to have a couple drinks, as well) we pivoted to sharing one lobster roll and one order of fish tacos. Being residents of NYC, I don't recommend coming here and ordering a $35 lobster roll. (Sticker shock is something I rarely experience, but I did that day.) It's a decent lobster roll, but I just think $35 is too high. That being said, the tacos were very tasty - I do recommend them at $17. Ultimately, buy a lobster. They were $13/lb (I believe), which is a very fair price. Eat your lobster with a beautiful view, and if you choose, grab a drink from the bar. (It was BYOB forever, and now it is not - ah well!) I'm sticking with 5 stars for the lobster, the view, and the nostalgia. Enjoy! read more

I have been going to Miscongus Bay lobster for at least 25 years or more. Absolutely beautiful location and always a little expensive but being able to bring your own beverages made it worth it. They got rid of BYOB a fews years ago. My most recent visit, $42.00 for a bottle of wine, $28.00 for 5 bacon wrapped scallops the size of quarters, $40.00 for a dozen oysters and the #1 with 1-1.25 lobsters with corn on the cob and a lb of clams was $38.00. Corn was old and tough and lobsters were the smallest I've ever seen served there. Very disappointed. They really are out to empty the tourist pockets. What a shame. Still a beautiful, scenic place to eat lobsters and oysters waterfront, but their prices have increased in recent years beyond the other places we enjoy eating lobster in Maine. They also now serve beer and are no longer BYOB which was one of the reasons we liked going there. read more

Fewer picnic tables available on the huge deck during CoVid19 with clear directions to approach staff and order area with masks on. Still the same affordable market prices for hard and soft shell lobsters, mussels, clams, crab and lobster rolls, tuna and haddock tacos. Caesar salad, mac and cheese, coleslaw, potato salad, chips, and pasta with or without seafood round off the menu. I personally prefer the softshell lobsters which have less meat but sweeter flesh. A 2 softshell lobster dinner that includes a succulent corn on the cob boiled in salt water and a pound of either mussels or clams is just under $30 today. Bring a light jacket or sweater if you plan to sit in the shade, and buy spray if you come and stay closer to sundown. Feel free to BYOB and additional sides to complete the meal. They provide nutcrackers and pickers to help you get into the lobsters, and paper towels to control the mess. read more

I stopped by here a couple of Sundays ago with my wife for lunch. Muscongus Bay Lobster Co is located right on the harbor at Round Pond. It's the type of place where you walk up to the counter, place your order and give your name and they call your name and bring it out to you whenever it's ready. The seating for this place is actually out on a pier in the water with great views of all of the boats. They have both shaded and unshaded seating with the shaded area having a ton of fun colored lobster buoys hanging down. For lunch on this day both my wife and I decided to get the #1 dinner special which was a 1 1/4 lb soft shell lobster with corn, butter and mussels. After a bit of a wait (they had a large party of about 20 in front of us), our food was brought out to us and looked pretty good. My lobster here was pretty good as it was cooked properly and had a nice sweet flavor to it. Since it was a soft shell lobster I didn't have any difficulty getting the meat out of the shells. Meanwhile the mussels here were quite large and I really enjoyed eating them, especially dipped in the butter. Last but not least was the corn which also had a nice and sweet flavor to it but was cooked a little much for my liking. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. My wife and I enjoyed our food and thought the Muscongus Bay Lobster Co. was a pretty nice place to have lunch. read more

We ate here one time during our weeks here and it was a very similar experience as last year. Food is ok, but the view is why you eat here. Food prices are up again this year, but that seems the norm. This is no longer a BYOB and alcohol prices are about what you would expect to pay at a touristy restaurant with a view. The few things I don't care for - there is a price for lobster example hard shell - $11.99/pound BUT if you want it cooked, it is $14.99/pound. I would guess the overwhelming majority of people who come here are buying a cooked lobster... The shack across the parking lot is cooked $9.99/pound. The other is everything is ala carte - you want butter with your lobster? $0.75. I understand you need to make a living, but it feels a bit like tourist gouging when the staples are an extra charge. However, they are usually full up so I guess I am the only one who cares. Lobster was good, view is amazing, but comparably a premium to eat here. read more

We have ordered haddock sandwiches at every possible place in the Pemaquid Peninsula and nothing compares to those at Muscongus Bay Lobster! The fish is a thick fresh fillet that is coated in cheese, accompanied by a delicious tartar sauce. Along with the homemade coleslaw (or one can choose potato salad), it will be one of the best meals you have had! Friends who join us share in this assessment. I come here with my family every summer and it is always a blast! It is less touristy than Shaw's which is around the corner. Menu is obviously heavy on the seafood side but no issues with that! They do a great job with the lobster dinners and other meals. I had the fish tacos last time I came and those were delicious. You order at the window and they call your number when the food is ready. Very good lobster roll prepared Maine style tossed in Mayo with some chive. Lobster was outstanding and the roll was nicely toasted if a little dense. Taking half a star off for very high prices ($40 per roll by the time you include tax and tip) and another half a star off for fairly cold service and tables that hadn't been wiped down despite it not being busy. Worst Lobster Roll I've ever had in the State of Maine. Even worse than some I've had in CT! But everything else we had was fantastic! Great steamers, mussels, tuna, halibut, etc. We loved the food except for the scrawny, tough, claw and knuckle meat lobster roll. We took its pathetic little picture and I'll see if I can find it and post it. Seriously long wait in line. Maybe an hour. There's no good reason why it takes 5-10 minutes a person to take an order. Somehow most walk-up seafood places in Maine are just as bad. It's BYO which is nice and you can at least have a beer while you're waiting in line (for what seems like forever!). Seriously, though, the food here (except for the lobster roll) was incredible. Very fresh and perfectly prepared. I would definitely come back and wait in the brutal line time after time for any of those other items. The view is beautiful looking out over the bay and the people seemed very nice. The best meal I had on my vacation was at a picnic table on the dock at the Muscongus Bay Lobster Co. No white table cloth here, just a lobster cracker and a roll of paper towels. We brought our own wine and beer and we were set. This was my first time trying "soft-shell" lobster, per recommendation from the waitress, cook, cashier (all the same person). for $16 each, we each had our own 1+ lb lobster, mussels/clams, and corn. An excellent value. We were referred to this place by a shopkeeper in Camden. It was a good place to stop for lunch between Camden and Portland. After a long drive down Hwy 32, we were beginning to think we had missed the place, but just then we saw the Granite Hall Store, hung a hard left and we were there! MMM.....Delicous - I wish I was there right now! This was my first visit to a lobster pound and oh, was I happy! Aside from my minor lobster injury (yes, it was dead...), I had a great time. This is a no-frills spot with delicious food. The steamers and lobsters were amazing. So amazing, in fact, that I wanted to eat 3 more! This spot is BYO, so that is nice as well. You can enjoy your seafood with wine along the water. This is a great spot and I'm sure it's packed in the summer. Thankfully, I was there when it was quiet (read, rainy), but it didn't diminish my enjoyment. The staff is super nice. Definitely a great spot!!! read more

You get a choice of the size of lobsters you want to eat. I've been told the larger the lobster the tougher the meat so we stayed at the 1 1/2 lb size. With our meal we got mussels or clams and freshly steamed corn. We sat at large wooden picnic tables and enjoyed the fresh air of Round Pond, ME. Great Food, Great Out Doors and the Great Company of Family who shared this with us. If you can find this place you'll love it to and see why it earns the rating of five stars. Scenic outdoor eating however my lobster dinner was just average. Ordered the hard Shell and found the flavor to be good but have had much better. I was not impressed with the clams. No sea water to rinse the sand out and many had broken shells. Hit or miss on the taste too. Glad they were just a side. Sad to find the corn to be GMO because it was overly sweet and touch which is typically of most corn you can get these days. i sure miss the corn of the Northeast before GMOs. Everybody has a favorite lobster pound in Maine. But - if you have been going as long as I have - ummm - 45 years - you would know that many of those so called lobster pounds are now restaurants. With waiters and waitresses and roofs and walls. And a menu with many non lobster things. And even - can it be said - tablecloths. Oh - no. Muscungus is the original lobster pound. On a deck on the water. With a walk up window where a young man or woman holds a lobster up for your approval before he is ah - cooked. No menu - a board with some lobster 'sides' and beverages. Then you wander out on the deck and park yourself on a splinter filled picnic table and enjoy the view. Unless you are a local - then you have perhaps brought a tablecloth, lots of napkins, and even (yes, I've seen it) a fancy candelabra. With some special sides and beverages of your own. Everything goes at Muscungous! Then they bring your hot, succulent, cooked lobster to the table. And because lobster is 99.9% of what they do it is perfect. Just perfect. And I am transported back 45 years to another picnic table in another time being taught how to eat lobster by my Father. And there isn't a waiter, a menu, or a tablecloth that can compete with that! I've been coming here for as long as I can remember, and although it has changed a lot, it's still a very traditional and wonderful dock to get a good simple lobster dinner. On our visit last weekend, we got softshell lobsters, corn, and a crab cake. The lobsters were great, the corn was really delicious, and the crab cake was the best crab cake I've ever had! It was super flavorful and we absolutely loved it. You can't beat the atmosphere and the classic Maine harbor view complete with lobster boats. The only con is that the line was incredibly long and slow (but clearly the staff were working hard...I think it was just really busy). A lot of people on here are complaining about the prices, but you're supporting a small family business, you get to bring as much outside food and drinks as you want, and the lobsters couldn't be fresher. read more
