On a recent trip, we decided to try Spring and Porter for Happy Hour. What a great decision! The atmosphere is upscale but cozy, and since we were enjoying happy hour, we sat at the bar. We tried quite a few cocktails, all of which were delicious, but the cosmo and Paloma were our favorites. To eat, I tried the "fried chicken" which was amazing. I'll start by saying that the food is good. BUT... the experience unfortunately left an extremely bad taste behind for our group. As a person with a disability that is protected under the ADA, reasonable accomodation was not given to our party. The server was also combative when asked for the ADA concession and even went to the kitchen and loudly discussed the disability with coworkers (so loud the entire restaurant could hear the disability being discussed). Really unfortunate experience. Our entire party agreed that we would not dine here again. Funny because a simple concession could have made longtime patrons of our group. Instead, over a rather small issue that was disproportionately blown up and blatantly thrown back at us with belittling comments. I believe our server had a choice to be accommodating and instead chose to make the situation extremely uncomfortable and unprofessional. As well established community members, we will not be suggesting this establishment to anyone in the future. read more

Food- some of the best food served in Petoskey. For the appetizers, the flatbread was disappointing. It had no flavor and was undercooked. The lamb meatballs were absolutely delicious....flavorful and juicy. The polenta it is served with was also very good. Bear Creek mixed salad was fresh and had nice mix of fresh vegetables. Avocado goddess dressing had a mild yet tasty flavor. The entrées of beef tenderloin, scallops, and halibut were all well prepared and absolutely delicious. Very flavorful. Do not skip out on the desserts.... the affogato, chocolate torte and Sundaes were superb. All desserts are made in house. Service- above and beyond. Very attentive and kind. Ambiance- sexy meets city. I would highly recommend this place and will be returning. read more

Not in the walkable downtown area, but absolutely on-par with any restaurant in the area. We were extremely happy with our choice and would recommend Spring and Porter to anyone. Spring and Porter might not catch your eye at first (tucked by a BP station near the hospital), but trust me, this spot is a must-try if you're looking for a top quality meal in Petoskey! We were tipped off by a local friend who called it his favorite, and now, after dining there, I can see why. Stepping inside, you get that polished up-north-chic vibe--dark wood beams, crisp white walls, intimate booths, a full bar, and a conservative one TV playing Michigan sports. The music was set at the perfect level to keep things lively but not a distraction. Our server, who I think was named Ryan (or maybe Brian?), set the tone with his warm enthusiasm. He filled us in on the restaurant's backstory--how the chef and OG crew came over 2 years ago from Chandlers and that everything is fresh, local, and made with serious care. His passion got us excited for the meal! We started with bread and butter--simple but done right. Then came the main attractions: the halibut with butternut squash risotto was spot on, while the venison backstrap and beef tenderloin (both medium rare) were cooked to perfection. The attention to detail here is chef's kiss. Drinks? Also a highlight. The wine list didn't disappoint, and they nailed the cocktails. My grandma, celebrating her 89th, ordered a Negroni, and our server recommended a special sour Negroni twist. She couldn't stop raving about it! Pro tip: we came right at opening (4:30 pm on a Saturday), and it was easy to settle in, and perfect for conversation with a big group and older guests. OK, so the decor still screams 1982, and the music only reinforces that. However, at least the food is more modern. And the prices are certainly not from the 1980s - two people with wine approaches $300. Began with the hamachi appetizer. It was a substantial dish, with lots of sushi rice. The large roll was a log of sushi rice topped with hamachi slices, cucumber slices and daikon slices - the daikon was peppery and the hamachi of a good quality. Lots of lemon and lime slices to accompany the dish! The salmon entree came with asparagus and risotto, to keep it gluten free, and morel mushrooms. It was lovely - the asparagus was crisp and the risotto was creamy and the salmon was flavorful. The beef tenderloin filet was beefy and soft without being mushy, that came with haricots verts and some really well cooked potato slices. A surprisingly good dish. There was a decent wine selection, although nearly all glasses were over $15. Good service. read more

Our party of 4 had a reservation for 6:30 on a Wednesday night. Our timing was great because the place definitely filled up by the time we left. I think that means that the lovely folks of Petoskey know how to have a good night out. First, cocktails were had... the ladies enjoyed a martini glass filled to the rim with some beautiful gin drink... the fellas had a Manhattan and a margarita. I was told this place used to be an Italian restaurant and you can tell by the brick walls and red booths. Our server was really good. Couldn't tell you her name but we could tell that she loves what she does. We had a smattering of their offerings; oysters, salads, fried chicken appetizer, cacio e pepe appetizer, and some delicious halibut. We reached a comfortable place and didn't want to overdo it though I could have been easily swayed to have an after dinner drink and a dessert. In short, we had a wonderful time. read more

To start the restaurant is small, cute and homey. We went here for my grandpas birthday and thought it was really good! For main entrees we had the Lamb, Veal Pasta, Shank and some good apps! We also tried the acorn squash soup that was very hearty and flavorful. The meatballs were good but a little dry. It was a little odd that they did not have more pasta meals though. Overall I'd rate it a 8/10 due to menu selection and price. Food quality was really good. read more

Absolutely a must try for any local and visiting people to the beautiful up north Petoskey. Rotating menus for season and special kitchen events. Brunch today was off the charts fantastic. Jordan, our bartender answered every question we had. We ordered smash burger (huge!) and chicken Benny with sausage gravy and homemade biscuit. Perfection. 2nd visit: the restaurant has truly hit its stride. Everything was excellent and the noise level has been reduced dramatically, evidently via new carpet and upholstered chairs. We had the Crab & Lobster Timbale, Fried Green Tomatoes, Halibut and the Duck Breast and all were outstanding. Crème Brûlée for dessert super tasty as well This is one of the best restaurants in the area in our view, with the only downside compared to some others being the physical space and location. read more

The new restaurant in Petoskey that many are loving! For a Monday night it was quite busy but we were able to be seated promptly even though my open table res did not go through! We shared the calamari and it was par at best, the beet salad was very fresh and flavorful and finally the chicken and gnocchi was excellent! The house pour Pinot Grigio was sub standard & would not recommend that wine! Service was as good as expected for a busy Monday night with only a few waitstaff as it's been difficult to staff any place all season in Northern Michigan! Compliments to the chef as everything came out in a timely manner with great presentation and fresh farm to table quality! Well done! Had a very good dinner at Spring & Porter last night. Opening the door, we were greeted by a lively busy. I'm glad we made a reservation as S&P was full on an off season Friday night. We had the halibut and the veal. Both were very good. The burrata tomato salad was the best I've had all summer. My only minor complaint was it was a bit noisy, but honestly, I was happy be in a lively atmosphere. Great job, Spring & Porter! read more

Delicious meal at spring and porter!!!! We had the sashimi appetizer which was so fresh and delicious. We also had the tomato soup in a mug with the whitefish / crab cake which I normally wouldn't pair together and it was out of this world!!!! You have to get that! I'm still thinking about it. The appetizers were amazing, my only critique was the Burrata and tomato salad because there was only a half piece of small burrata in comparison to the tomatoes. Overpriced and over hyped. Went there a year ago and not impressed with food, service or pricing.

Last week 10 girlfriends went to this new restaurant as we were familiar with the owner/chef who worked at a previous restaurant and his quality of food was excellent. Unfortunately I cannot say the same for his new restaurant. There were mixed reviews from the 10 girls ranging from excellent to mediocre food. The service was slow during a packed Wednesday night and the noise level was unbearable. Definitely not a place for a romantic and quiet dinner. As we are all locals, we will return but not for several months and hopefully my negative comments have been rectified. We wish the owners success in their new venture. read more

Have been here a couple of times with my family. The best sirloin steak and lamb shank I have ever had. The food is simply amazing. Knocking down a couple of stars because: 1. The noise level is very high. In my opinion, it would be beneficial to have some noise absorbing artwork on the walls. 2. The drinks from the bar could be improved. Unfortunately, the drinks we have ordered do not live up to the foods amazing standard.
