The math teacher and the IB coordinator resigned last March, and as of December, no permanent replacements have been appointed. The teacher currently covering these responsibilities reportedly has no prior IB experience. Assigning teachers without confirmed IB background to senior-level classes raises serious concerns about the quality and continuity of instruction. The chemistry teacher taught online for half a year because the school was unable to secure a visa. Another teacher was hired in the middle of the year; however, the school has not provided any information regarding her IB experience or certification. This lack of transparency makes it difficult for parents to assess whether IB standards are being met. The school's salary and benefits package appears to be uncompetitive within the local market, which may explain the hiring challenges. At the same time, the school continues to allocate funds to cosmetic updates such as repainting facilities and redesigning the website through third-party contractors. This raises reasonable questions about budget priorities. Overall, student academic outcomes do not appear to be the school's primary focus. Additionally, it is publicly known that the director's wife works in UX design; beyond this, the rationale for the recent urgency to redesign the school's website remains unclear.

These wounds are often not treated properly, and there have been multiple times where no incident report was filed -- and neither my husband nor I were informed by staff. The assistant director, Vanessa Ortiz, has extremely poor communication skills. It often takes more than a full school day to get a response to emails about serious issues like injuries. When we've tried to address concerns in person, we're met with excuses, not answers -- and certainly no sense of urgency. Also, if you have an issue and ask for the teacher's names (since we don't know their names due to so much turn over), don't expect to get them without the director reaching higher above her and then telling you to reach out to the area or regional director :) Shockingly, some teachers have even stepped in during conversations with other staff and *yelled* at us while trying to defend one another. The stories we're told rarely add up, and it feels like there's a serious lack of transparency and accountability. Supervision in the classrooms is clearly lacking, and poor communication seems to be used as a cover-up rather than a fix. There has also been an alarming amount of turnover among staff and students in just the last two months alone. That said, I want to give a huge shoutout to Mrs. Margie, Mrs. Wanda, and Ms. Jasmine. These amazing ladies are the only reason we're waiting until summer to pull our son. We truly appreciate the love and care you show our baby -- thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Every part of this review reflects my own personal experiences and perspective as a former student. I share these observations in good faith and hope they offer helpful insight for others. Some teachers were kind and supportive, and I'm grateful for them. But others showed clear favoritism, often treating neurodivergent students, students of color, and those from less affluent families with less patience, care, or respect. I saw students singled out, shamed, or ignored when they needed help. That includes a teacher in the art department, Ms. M**ks (last names) who, despite appearing nice to some, often appeared to treat students who displayed neurodivergence in a harsh and dismissive way. One classmate with ADHD, for example, was frequently criticized for traits beyond their control. I will add that it appears that there is currently a new teacher in her place, and I cannot find this particular teacher on the school website, which is honestly a relief. I watched as she corrected, belittled, or singled out a few (even a few is too many) students who were neurodivergent or just different in how they expressed themselves. One student in particular, who had clear ADHD traits and a real passion for art, was constantly criticized for things like messiness, distraction, or "doing it wrong." It felt like she used that student's neurodivergent traits as targets, rather than offering understanding or support. The dynamic was painful to witness and left a lasting impression on me. There was also a time I was accidentally injured during a class activity involving a particular art material. I wasn't helped or offered first aid--just told it was my fault by that same teacher. That scar stayed on my body for years. There were also incidents involving body shaming in gym class and situations on school trips that felt physically unsafe. Students with invisible needs or without formal diagnoses were often overlooked. While the school talked about values like inclusion and activism, they weren't always reflected in how staff treated students. I hope things have improved since I attended, because all children deserve a safe and supportive learning environment.

We took them out until we could figure out what was going on. When we were ready to have them go back our spots had been filled. I did a search of the area and stumbled upon Happy Tree. Ms. Danielle was extremely responsive and we had a brief phone call before we toured the school. During the phone call with Ms. Danielle it just felt right. When we toured, I knew it was right. When they were enrolled, they had just turned two and within weeks I could see a huge difference in their growth and development. They are now 4.5 and came home one day and recited all the presidents! They are writing and spelling their names, adding and subtracting and much, much more. It's extremely bittersweet that they are moving on and we will very much miss Happy Tree and all they've done to prepare them for their future education.

He became so comfortable with the teachers in his class that he would specifically look for them when he walked in the building. They are so loving and caring. I had some apprehension because my son has a hearing aide that needs to be removed for naps and water activities. It is also extremely difficult to get him to keep it in and for other students not to yank at it. They took the time to learn how to place and remove the device and also helped him keep up with it. As he moved up in classes, he became just as fond of the new teachers as the old and they encouraged some independent learning. They also got him to eat vegetables almost everyday which is impossible at home. We wouldn't have believed it if we didn't see it with our own eyes. Another great thing about the facility is you can pop in on your child any day or any time. They have an open door policy for parents and it makes you feel at ease when they are willing to be so open. We moved and had to change child care. It was a difficult decision to make because our son enjoyed his classmates and teachers so much.

I attended Parish from Pre-K through 6th grade. Please bare in mind that I am now in my early 20s,…read moreso this was awhile ago and for all I know the school has changed somewhat. Some of the teachers I had have since retired or moved on to different schools, but I believe Mr. Monaco, the head of school who replaced Gloria Snyder when I was in the elementary school, is still there, so I'm not entirely sure how different the school is. Parish for me was a toss-up when it came to academics: there were some incredibly kind and nurturing teachers who knew how to engage their students, and there were some teachers who should not have been in the classroom at all. What particularly stood out to me about the Parish system, and not in a good way, was how strictly the school wanted kids to adhere to their pace of learning: there was no room for personal intellectual growth. I have a couple examples of this. The first occurred in first grade, when my class had been placed into three distinct reading groups based on how they had scored on standardized tests. Despite being a pretty avid reader at home, I guess I didn't do as well as I should have, because I was placed in the middle-level one. There was a series of chapter books that I had really enjoyed reading at home, so I was overjoyed when my teacher got them for our class library. However, as soon as I pulled one out and started to read, my teacher came over and politely told me that I was not allowed to read those books because my standardized tests had deemed that I wasn't ready. I tried to explain to her that I had read the books at home and had no trouble with them, but to no avail. I don't want to blame the teacher in this instance because looking back, she was one of the better teachers I had at Parish, and I'm sure she was just doing what the school had instructed her to do. Looking back though, I think it's awful that a school would purposely hold a student back from more advanced work and pushing themselves (when they have the full capability to do so) just because a standardized test put them in a specific box. This issue occurred again in sixth grade, when I went to a summer camp for advanced students over the summer that taught me beginning calculus. My mom told my 6th grade math teacher about the camp, and the teacher proceeded to tell her she was wrong in sending me there, as the camp might advance me too much and I would be bored later on. No thought to the fact that I might be ready for more advanced math--just trying to hold me at the level that Parish thought I should be at. In this way, I really felt the school tried to put all its students in boxes of where they "should be" and not allow for individual learning paths. I noticed after the time I left, several kids I knew who were usually at the top of the class ended up transferring to schools like Hockaday and Greenhill, and I can't help but wonder if it was in part for that reason.
