It's been years since I've last been here, but I'm glad the quality of their sushi has remained top-tier! Of course I had to order the lobster lasagna, which was my go-to back in the day. The creamy lobster and crabmeat mix is placed on top of the actual sushi roll, and the roll consists of avocado, cucumber, and others - including a tasty sauce. I more than recommend! I also ordered the Philly roll and plum wine to complement. I came during lunch time, and there was a decent amount of people inside, but the service was pretty quick and the server and manager were both very attentive. This restaurant is tucked away in downtown silver spring. Don't get intimidated though - theres a parking garage about a block down. Like many have said - it is smaller. I don't recommend for like a huge group to do dine in. We were a group of 5 and tables more meant for 4 and below. That being said - service was amazing. We got time to review menu. We had our waters refilled. The food came out pretty quick. We order a bunch of different rolls - I am sorry I can't remember them all right now. It's all good and super fresh. I don't know if it's just me I hate when I order tuna roll somewhere and they give something mushed up. Here I got to see the actual piece of fish in my sushi - the way I like it. I used to love this place! However, they changed the marinated egg in the Spicy Jin ramen, it used to be dark brown and now it's almost white. He says it's because it's soft boiled now but what difference does it make, it has no flavor. The guy who had been working there for "10 years" has an attitude problem and he doesn't listen. I used to eat this all the time and they definitely changed the marinating time. He got irritated and hung up on me because I asked about the change with the egg (my fav part) and told him that it was different. I won't order from them again. Haven't been here for a min, more like a little over a year . This used to be one of our favorite sushi restaurants before we moved away. Always love the atmosphere , the inside setting is very much like an authentic restaurant. Wall decoration are really fun to look at. During this visit , the service was as good as always, friendly and attentive. However, we were not a big fan of some of the dishes they added to the seasonal menu , for instance , the fried ball appetizer, and added Sriracha to some of the sushi rolls making spicy. Personally, I like Sriracha, however after Sriracha is added to sushi, I personally feel a change the flavor the sushi should have. Also the sauce added to the sashimi appetizer felt like it shouldn't be there. Value- didn't feel there was too much of a price jump, still pretty decent and reasonable. I absolutely loved the bulgogi roll and the Japanese tempura rolls. The seaweed salad is also awesome- it has other vegetables on top too and I really liked that. Highly recommend visiting here! Please note that we ordered take out, and they put the fish and chicken/beef sushi in one container. I've been coming to Sushi Jin (eating in and take out) for a few years. The vegetable bento box is one of the best vegetarian sushi options I've found in the area. A large variety of veggie rolls (sweet potato, mushroom, asparagus, etc) with a salad and a miso soup for a great price! The only part of the box that always confuses me is the ice cold clump of sweet potato. Maybe it's supposed to be served that way? The interior of the restaurant is narrow and fills up very fast during peak hours. I'd recommend coming early on weekends unless you're ok with a wait. Fun fact: I have never been here sober. I have always come here after partaking of happy hour when I am, frankly, pretty wasted. That said, I have had the spicy tofu tempura several times and it is always delicious. I also love the lobster lasagna which is not actually lasagna. We stopped by Sushi Jin for a snack after a long movie at the theater down the street a couple of weeks ago and had a pretty good time. We had a couple of hand rolls (they offer some of their rolls as hand rolls) and gyoza. Everything was pretty good. Those are some massive hand rolls! The service was good, and the place has some unexpectedly cool vibes for its location. Overall, a fine meal. Looks like this is the place to be. I've visited Sushi Jin only two times, but I'll say that both experiences have been wonderful. First, Sushi Jin has a very extensive menu so there is a something for everyone. While the restaurant is a bit small, it has a lot of character. That said, I wouldn't recommend dining at Sushi Jin if you have a large (5+ folks) party because the booths might be a little tight. Also, it's probably a good idea to make a reservation because the restaurant tends to be full, and there is very limited space to wait for a table. During both visits, we all were very happy with the food. My go-to ramen has been either the Spicy Jin Ramen or the Kimchi Pork Ramen. If you are in starvation mode definitely go with the Spciy Jin Ramen because that bowl of ramen is HUGE. Also, it's a great deal for $16. While I enjoyed the Spiciy Jin Ramen, I was not a huge fan of the pork being somewhat sweet. Also, I highly recommend the Takoyaki (fried octopus balls). Although I thought the prices for ramen, appetizers, and traditional/regular rolls were fine, I thought some of the specialty rolls were a bit on the expensive side. As a native Washingtonian, my son & I were in town for the Christmas holidays. Since he is a native San Franciscan, I felt compelled to demonstrate there were excellence sushi outside of his City by the Bay. My brother and his partner are regulars at Sushi Jin in Silver Spring, Maryland. Even though I once lived in Siliver Spring in the 1980s and many annual visits, I have never been to the restaurant. Nice surprise! Given my brother's knowledge of the menu, we were "required" to order the Russian Roulette sushi offering. This particular sushi had a "Wasabi bullet" in one of the pieces. It was fresh and delicious. The three of our party took our turns "pulling the trigger" to see who would get the "click" or take the Wasabi bullet. It reminded me of the epic scene in the Deer Hunter but it was a revolver's bullet. Well, guess who took the bullet?! Yep, it was me. Probably second the most fun involving Wasabi! As we continued of the sushi holiday party, my Oscar genius brother shared his top 5 best movies. The menu items are very funny and clever play on words. The only issue we experienced was our wait staff who were disinterested in our presence from the outset. Perhaps they were bored; perhaps ready for their shift to end. But it was noted, and as anyone who reads my Yelp reviews knows, I will usually give a shout out to good service. Thankfully, sushi overshadowed the Bah Humbug service. Sushi Jin atmosphere is cozy and unremarkable, but the sushi offerings, variety, freshness, and taste are exceptional. BRAVO! Maybe this was an off day because the food was terrible. The sushi looked and tasted like it was made by a home cook (and that's not a compliment). The chicken ramen smelled...like... err, potty. The smell alone was beyond off putting. I took a couple of bites and quickly realized I couldn't continue to eat it. $17 down the drain. Stopped by for some sushi while we were downtown. Luckily we came right when it opened because by the time we left, there was a wait with people even waiting outside. The restaurant is kind of small, though. The space on the way to the restaurants could be rather tight, especially when the wait staff are taking orders. Even N got pushed up against the wall a couple times by waiters who weren't paying attention. Sushi was decent, with the traditional roles much better than the specialty ones. For the price, I'd definitely skip the special rolls next time. For the special rolls, we got the Memory of a Geisha and Chili Philly. Both were decent, but not too memorable. Preference was for the Memory of a Geisha (spicy salmon, cucumber, and avocado topped with tuna and a sweet soy sauce that I could have done without) over the Chilli Philly (basically a Philly roll with torched salmon on top with spicy sauce that wasn't spicy at all). I also had a salmon avocado roll, which was the favorite out of the three. Simple, yet fresh ingredients. I also tried some of the shumai (steamed) and chicken yakitori. The shumai was a big no no. It was soggy and looked unappetizing. The chicken yakitori was huge! I was expecting smaller pieces of chicken rather than large rolled pieces on a stick. The chicken had good flavor to it, but was slightly overcooked and dry. Service was decent and there is plenty of parking along the streets (metered) or nearby garage (free on weekends). read more

I've ordered from this restaurant before and wasn't blown away by the food; however, I decided to give it another shot while I was in downtown Silver Spring craving sushi the other day. This was the only sushi restaurant within a 1 mile radius of the area. I ordered at 12:15pm and was told my order would be ready in 15 minutes. I hightailed it the restaurant because I had ordered sushi and I didn't want my order sitting on the counter for an extended period of time. I arrived within 15 minutes, entered the tiny restaurant and waited 5 minutes while the gentleman at the front counter spoke with exasperation to a customer on the phone. Once he wrapped up the call, I told him I was there to pick up an order for Natalie. He told me the total, swiped my credit card, and then informed me that my order would "soon be ready." By soon, he meant another 15-minute wait. The restaurant was not busy during this time. Only three tables were occupied and the staff were working at a steady pace to fill takeout orders. Once my order was ready, the gentleman at the front handed it to me and said "here it is", no "sorry for the delay" or other pleasantries. This restaurant is clearly all about the transaction and low on customer service. Perhaps you get better service when you dine in, but the takeout experience leaves much to be desired. The spicy tuna and shrimp tempura rolls, miso soup, and salad that I ordered were pretty good. Was it worth a 35-minute wait? No; however, it was filling enough for a lunchtime meal. read more

I was first introduced to this place five years ago and was pretty much hooked. My go-to sushi roll would always be the shinjuku murderer bc I love spiciness in my life. And the first few times, it did the job of killing my taste buds for a few days. This last time I went few days ago, I'm not sure if they had too many patrons complaining about the spiciness, but it did not give me the same spicy hit that it did the first few times. It felt more like shinjuku committed a little crime and not murder as well. Ah well, I still enjoyed it and many other items on the menu. I enjoy getting sushi takeout from here the other day! I got the sweet potato roll in the shrimp tempura roll. Love the flavor of the teriyaki type soy sauce complimenting the sweetness of the sweet potato. The shrimp, tempura roll is pretty typical, but the fish eggs are a little, overpowering. The pieces of sushi were large, and it was a good filling portion for the price. We also tried the Gyoza, which was pretty typical but was nicely fried with a good crunch!
