SPRING POOLS. It is not often that customers say positive things about their pool contractor; there is simply so much that can go wrong even if the contractor is honest and competent. Purchasing a pool or having a major renovation is something that you want, not that you need. It is always a splurge, but that does not mean that price and quality isn't important. They managed to get Modern Method to start work within days of when I agreed to the contract. During the entire process, Spring Pools was in daily contact with the installer to make sure the application was exactly what I wanted and that the job was done correctly. When I pointed out a couple of minor punch list items, Spring Pools arranged for Modern Method to send a repair crew the same day. The pool looks brand new and is absolutely stunning. And best of all, the price I paid Spring Pools beat all of the competitive bids I received. The process of a pool purchase or major renovation is similar to buying a diamond engagement ring; they all sparkle brilliantly under bright lights but they all come with sticker shock. So how can you be assured that you are getting good quality at a fair price? That all depends upon the jeweler. In the case of Spring Pools, that means the owner, Mike Lowman. Mike is as honest as the day is long. He appreciates that the cost of pool materials, equipment and labor has skyrocketed and will be a major investment for his customers, but he also knows that he must do his best to keep those prices within reason for his customers. We've worked with Mike Lowman, owner of Spring Pools, on three separate pool projects. He's truly been a pleasure to work with. His bids are competitive, uses top of the line Pentair equipment, pebble tec surface, led lighting etc. But MOST importantly he is extremely reliable, ethical and see's the job through. If there are any sort of hiccups during the project, which is not uncommon in the pool building business, he works through the issue and makes it right. Also, he typically completes the pool project considerably quicker than other pool companies, using sub-contractors he's worked with for many years - completion in a couple months vs. 6-8. After contacting Mike Lowman with Spring Pools, we found them to be reasonably priced and he did a good job designing the pool, with a waterfall where our yard forms a soft corner and having a sheer descents wall with curves parallel with the house. But then came the problems: once the pool was being built, I felt I had to look over his shoulder alot of the time to ensure accuracy (deck measurements smaller than designed that wouldn't accomodate chairs around firepit, firepit placement, shape of pool) even having to leave work to correct, which shouldn't have to be done when you spend $50k. Not sure why everything couldn't be built exactly like it was designed. The waterfall was placed a few feet over and not according to the plans, out of my 3 sheer descents in the curved wall, the left and middle are coming out straight with the right one pointed outward which looks bad. My drains for the deck, firepit, and pool overflow have 3 separate stubouts instead of being one drainage system. What does one do with 3 different stub outs? Can't cover them up or else it won't drain! They also put a piece of the pool equipment on the side of the house facing the pool for all to see instead of on the side of the house with the rest of the equipment for no good reason. While digging for the pipes, they piled the dirt against the house packing dirt into the weep holes, (how do I get that out?), pea gravel left in grass, trash & debris thrown in the reserve behind the house, pebble sheen sprayed on my wrought iron fence, the fence post they had to remove was reinstalled to where it made the fence bow outward, and this was after specifically asking that they make sure it was straight as I predicted this might happen. I was also never told that postponing the start of construction would result in a 2 week delay over Christmas, and after I paid my $$, it would take multiple emails and days to get a response to questions that before would take only a day or less. After a few months, my deck was already cracking and of course that is not warranteed at all. It appeared something was wrong with my vacuum and it took several calls/emails and no one knew that there might simply be a small pebble in one of the jets that creates the suction. How can this not be common sense to pool people? They also stained my brick with something and supposedly tried to get it off, and was told it would not come off. I then spent 5 minutes using acid and it came right off! Bottom line, the pool design was good and the experience could have been worse but it also could have been a lot better as there are a few minor things not listed here so if you don't want the hassles I had to deal with, you might want to try someone else. read more
