First review ever written: so the reason I'm writing this probably means something. The golf course itself is nice, plays well and great for amateurs but the staff here are awful. Overcharged based off their website pricing, staff is inexplicably rude, Marshals made up lies about why we couldn't have our service animal with us. As someone with severe depression and crippling anxiety forced me to leave this scathing review. Do not come here based on the staffs untrustworthiness, you can go to any golf course and have better staff help you. Note to owner: look internally as to who you're hiring. No pace of play enforced, seems only interested in keeping tee sheets filled! Overall a good course well maintained

All my friends have been asking me what did I do for New Years so my answer was play golf at 7:45 am. What??? The story is a good friend of mine was leaving for a long-azz business trip so this was the only opportunity he had available plus he had a coupon. So OK why not.... On arrival the parking lot was quite empty and it was a cool morning. I got to the club house found my friend jumped into our cart and headed off to the the 10th tee. We were joined by a single and finished the round in a brisk 3 hrs 45 mins. The only hiccup was a fivesome in front of us (we guessed they were the ground staff getting a free round) but they allowed us to pass them at a par 3 hole. The course is in good condition but I think it is a tougher course than its rating because of the blind holes in the front nine. The course was pretty quiet for NYD so I imagine worse congestion on regular days. read more

The golf course was in great condition and was enjoyable to play. But... The customer service was TERRIBLE!!!!!! The guy at the check-in desk should be fired. He was extremely rude and talked to us like we were stupid. We asked for help with the push carts and he talked to us like we knew nothing. He was super annoyed and irritated AF for having to help us. If I didn't like this course, I would have given this course 0 stars. I took four stars for the unpleasant, unwelcoming, stern, scoldy lady that I ended up naming Scoldilocks. She was in charge of handing out carts and was also apparently a marshal. She paired us with a walking 70 year old (after I requested to be just the three of us and was told if I wanted the 4th spot empty I had to pay for it. Not very Covid minded or customer service minded in my opinion.) Anyways; after pairing three people in carts with a man that walked. Scoldilocks who wasn't pleasant, friendly, or welcoming at check in made sure to earn her new Yelp moniker when she proceeded to scold my group for losing sight of the group in front of us. Hello ?! You paired us with a geriatric walker ! We had carts and are fully familiar with pace of play and etiquette. (We also weren't drinking. AT ALL!! That makes a difference!) But the one thing we couldn't do on the course that day was to get old "seven practice swings" to speed up. So she decided to try to make us feel like simps by scolding us after our crappy unwelcoming welcome. Notice I don't say shit about the food, course or anything else? It's cuz her pissy demeanor was all we can remember after spending good money to share the day with some old fart and potentially get Covid cuz all that matters at this course is to pair up people and force them through Scoldilocks' meat grinder of a course where if you're stuck with an old man you get chewed out by the marshal. Course ? Meh. Bathrooms ? Meh. Food? Dunno; Bailed cuz we were scared Scoldilocks also took food orders. Just remember her. So mean. So stern. So unhappy. So unwelcoming. So not worth the $ that it cost or the drive it took to get there. Golf courses need nice people working them to ensure no butthurt Yelp reviews. It's simple. Scoldilocks = 1 Star. Someone read this and break it down for her. Golf = Stupid high prices to hit a small rock sized ball with a stick and pretend to care where it lands. Your enjoyment of Spring Valley will be based entirely on pace of play. Good pace, good course. It tends to attract an older demographic and maybe some not very good golfers. There are several choke points when it gets a little crowded and never seen or heard a marshal do anything. They need to push the slow golfers. So you can have a 3.5-hour round-yeah!- or a 5.0 hour round, boo! The par 5 uphill 6th hole has the worst blind shot on the drive. They need to put a bell or a flag on top of the hill to let group behind know when clear to hit. Even little thinks like that start slowing a round. read more

I like this course because it has a few holes that you need to carry over water. That is fun because it is challenging. Although some people don't like that I do. It's different now under COVID protocol but in the end, it's still our Spring Valley Golf course, clubhouse, and restaurant. Good staff, overall, and fun course. Also nice putting and chipping areas. Just watch out for the two old Korean scavengers who never buy balls and just use their own or what they scavenge when people leave balls behind at their stalls when they go to tee off lol! read more

I decided to try this golf course again last week after many years. I am sad to inform that this course gave me just as bad experience as before. The course itself is actually fun. The layout was interesting, yet challenging. The bad part is basically everything else. First, there is an extremely rude manager in the club house, I feel bad for the staff who works under his management. Second, the Marshall doesn't do a good job to keep the pace of play. Expect to wait at a par 3 for 15 minutes or more, actually all par 3s. The length of play is about 6.5 hours, mostly waiting. We started around 12pm and reached 15th tee box at 5pm. Like my previous review, just play somewhere else. read more

Have been coming here every year for our company's party. The location is pristine as it is surrounded by lush greens of the golf course and trees and the flowers that grow abound. We would have our celebration at the main hall where they have set up the tables and a bar waiting for our drink orders. At this time they only have limited beer and cocktail selections, depending on who the bartender is, IMO. They place is surrounded by windows where you can enjoy the wonderful and relaxing view and cool breeze if you eat by the patio. For parties they offer set meals but the most famous is the steak with the sidings. The steaks are done medium rare and they are huge. I love the sidings especially the roasted carrots which are sweet and perfection. The cheese cake that comes after the meal is also marvelous with a side of strawberry and berry compote. Spring Valley Golf Course - Golf Near Me - Milpitas, California

Nice, clean course tucked into the hills of Milpitas. Plays shorter than most courses (it's only a par 70 course) but the slopes from the hills makes the strokes around the green challenging and sometimes even downright tricky. Also the greens and tee boxes are way too close together so you are always hearing the groups next to you as you are trying to putt or tee one off. Played here twice in the past month and I historically play this course about thrice a year. On our first outing, my friend and I ended up joining an elder/retired gentleman who seemed like a regular at this course. He was quiet at first, and b/c of his age was not a powerful hitter. But he knew his game, knew his clubs and what exactly they could do for him. He was straight and efficient and more times than not, got his ball in the hole in less strokes than we did. He gave us pointers on some local knowledge which greatly aided us in our shot decisions. He even had beers with us as we played. He was like the Spring Valley Yoda, trying to get us to use the force. "Play the hole short, you must do. Make the ball roll, the hill will do." Is pretty much how I heard his advice. We felt lucky to have played with the Spring Valley Yoda. On our other outing without our Yoda, our scores were not as good. We did see him in the middle of the course with another group and I couldn't help wishing that he were in our group. Spring Valley: without Yoda, 3 stars. With Yoda, 4 stars. If you're lucky enough to get a chance to play with him, say what's up for me. I'm the guy with the fade and can't putt to save his life. He'll know. read more

Good golf course. The speed of play is fast. I love that they have markers from 200yrd and in so you can easily get an idea of how far out you are from the hole if you don't want to pull out the range finder. On Monday, June 24th, we had our annual employee golf tournament at Spring Valley Golf Course. It was probably our 9th or 10th year at the facility. It's funny, but the service, and the golf course, only get better each year. We had unusual weather this year, chance of heavy rain in late June. Jeff, the General Manager, and his staff, gave us multiple options as we neared tee time. But just as they had assured, the course was in perfect, playable condition, the warm, humid clouds kept the sun off of us, and it was another perfect day. The tournament provided us lunch and an exceptional NY steak dinner. The staff was courteous, friendly, helpful, and generally awesome. You can tell they truly appreciate hosting us at their facility and it shows. We'll be back.....for many more years. To Jeff and your staff, a big THANK YOU from our golf committee. For someone who just went to this golf course as a spectator with people who were playing 18 holes, it's sad that I feel I have to comment on how poorly I was treated as a guest. I brought along my service dog who always does well with me on the golf cart, we were harassed by staff about bogus lies that my dog was barking when he in fact was not. We did not feel welcome and will definitely not be returning. read more

Beautiful, Scenic with lovely trees and lakes, Goose sightings and bells on the distance coming from the Buddist Temple near by all makes for a lovely and fun experience. I'm still fairly new to golf and this was my first 18 hole golf course and I'm so very Thankful that this was my first experience. Surely would like to return numerous times again. I got tired after the 12th hole so simply enjoyed the ride along viewing the nature beauty and taking photos. I walked most of the course while hubby drove the golf cart and I also drove the golf cart a few times which was fun too! I had just started taking The Bar Method class yesterday so was a bit sore from intensive workout early morning... Already looking forward to returning again to this beautiful course! read more

I wish I could give negative stars. We booked a tee time a good 5 days in advance for a party of 5. For my father in laws birthday. I'll admit I'm not a freakin pro but I'm also not shitty at gold. Our tee time was 8:15AM on a Wednesday morning. We were asked to start on the 10th hole, np. Then as we finish up on our 11th hole (second hole), the marshal came up to us and said oh someone called on you guys to the pro shop and I need to keep an eye on you guys if you have beginners. We JUST started and these assholes behind us called? I understand if we were taking our sweet time and it took us forever to finish a few holes but we ONLY finished 2. So he asked us to skip 2 holes and come back to it later. Mind you it's also 8 freakin AM. It's overpriced. EVERYTHING is overpriced. Their "restaurant" is huge, with one attendant whom I also question if she has her bartender's certification bc she didn't know how to make a jack and coke. Concerns all around. My fiancé and I paid $120 for the both of us to ride the 18 hole. And I wish we never did. This course during the entire 18 holes were filled with old men who have nothing better to do than call the pro shop every 5 minutes because they can't wait 5 minutes for other people to have a good time. I'm sorry, were you guys becoming pros? No. There was also no etiquette from the players who "think they know it all". Pfft. The marshal probably checked on us 7-8 times afterwards and I mean. Not check, CREEP behind a tree. I've caught him chillin until the last person tees off and drives away as quick as he can as if he's sly. People have good days and people have bad days. From the 2nd whole we tee'd off from, it was bad vibes sent and "rushing" from the establishment itself. On top of that, upon returning the cart key, some old man , probably a retired dude who can't chill out for 2 minutes to finish a hole, had the audacity to say "oh yeah the marshal had to keep asking these people to keep it moving and we kept waiting blah blah" out loud in the pro shop. OUTLOUD. My fiancé said "YUP THAT WAS US. We were TRYING to have a good time because my fiancé is fairly new and it's my fathers birthday" I'll add I was the only girl on that course. My question is - how is ANYONE supposed to practice and get better if you have men haggling you all the time? I promise I wasn't completely half assing it. But some of these old men couldn't even tee it 50 yds so what's the deal with me when I'm teeing just fine when it made it to the green or even fairway? I wouldn't even make my way out here again or recommend it to anyone. There's nothing to brag about this place aaaat all. Waste of money, Waste of time. You're better off at much closer courses with way better staff. read more

Bad service, total shit show. Group of 16 two groups ahead of us that ruled the place with no regard for rate of play so had to wait so long on every hole. Foursome ahead of us had some asshole who felt he was a cop cause he worked there and the people in the pro shop lacked any service or hospitality. No marshall to enforce rate of play, lawnmowers whipping around right next to you not caring, girl at the snack shack didn't speak English and we wanted to eat after our round but they closed the kitchen at like 530p. read more

Very disappointing experience. I usually play this course Saturday evenings and my wife walks with me for the exercise. Tonight we were told that she is not allowed to walk with me, and that she would have to get a cart . . Which defeats the whole purpose. I asked for an exception, but ended up at Bay View Golf club instead. It's a very nice course with much better views. Only 5 min away. This ended a Saturday evening tradition for us, but we are starting a new one at Bay View. read more

3-Stars only because it's always been a nice well maintained course even thru the extreme drought yrs. Knocked off 2 stars for the noticed change in the staff's attitude. I've lived in Milpitas for over 45yrs and have been playing Spring Valley for over 30yrs. Went out yesterday morning (Sunday 6/25) for a quick Back9 with my nephew. We've never had any issues walking on for a Back9 anywhere unless of course there was a frost delay, not the case on this morning. We all know Back9s tee off up to 1hr after sunrise. On this morning sunrise was 5:50am, we walked in to the club house at 6:15am. The guy at the register asks "you guys got a tee time?" We said no we're just walking on and he explains to us the Back9 is only till 1hr after sunrise and we politely tell him "yes sunrise was only 20min ago" he says hold on and walks outside as if to go see how many groups are waiting on the 10th tee. Comes back and says ok I can get you guys out and rings us up. We get up to the 10th tee box expecting to see several groups waiting to tee off but to our surprise there wasn't a single group waiting and we could only see a 3some putting out on the green. We both said WTH was that all about and brushed it off. Shortly after we teed off we caught up to the 3some ahead of us since we were only a 2some but we didn't think at all that their pace of play was a problem. Somewhere around the third hole of our round the course marshal approached us and said the guys ahead of the 3some were starting to pull ahead so keep pushing the guys in front of us to pickup the pace. After the marshal left we looked around and there was nobody behind us for at least 3 holes back. I told the nephew WTF is his problem there's absolutely nobody behind us and why's he telling us to push the guys ahead when their pace was perfectly fine. Playing right up on the a$$es of the group in front of you only pisses people off and can cause a confrontation. Nephew said what's with the staff here lately, he played 18 here last month and brought a couple of beers in a small soft cooler. The marshal spotted the cooler in his cart, confiscated his cooler and told him he can pick it up on his way out after his round. In over 30yrs of playing at much much nicer courses than SpringValley, this was a very first for me to hear of a course marshal at ANY course actually confiscating somebody's cooler. I know a lot of golf courses say "No Coolers Allowed" and literally maybe 2-3 times (IN 30 YRS!) a marshal has come up to me and say "Sir, please keep the cooler zipped there's no outside alcohol allowed on the course" and I'd kindly do so for the rest of the round. But never has my cooler been taken away on the course read more

Wow. I have to say I am very frustrated with how my friend and I were treated at a recent round. We are regulars and play an average of 2-4 times per month. I am a decent player on average and typically shoot 92-98 so not a hacker. I have played with people of all skill levels at this course. I would say on average a Friday round will be 4 1/2 to 5 hours. Golf courses are a service based business and part of the experience you pay for should be nice staff. We try to keep pace but can not control the pace of who we play with. A group behind us were obviously tourists who may never return and after the round they were given an apologetic round of drinks. We, frequent players, were scolded for pace of play. This truly saddens me as I really like the course but I will likely not play there often due to this experience. read more

One of the worst golf experiences my family has ever had without even teeing off... we were told my 3yr daughter was a golfer and couldn't ride on the cart with my wife and her sister. We have been to almost all Bay Area golf courses and have never been treated this way. My 3yr old just sits between mom and sis at every course never an issue. The course doesn't even have a dress code saw a group teeing off in jeans and tee shirts. Really disappointing experience as we drove 40 mins to play there. we played here the other day as an event, although backed up at first play was quick. however the team behind our last group began hitting into the team behind us on the first tee (10 to start) but everyone was rolling after that, however by hole 12 we were visisted by a golf course rep indicating that we were behind and were told to pick up the pace although there was no sign of anyone behind us. ok so we start playing quicker, same thing at the end of hole 13. ok we promise to really go now but as before no signs of anyone behind us. this continued for for no less than three more times , with no signs of behind pressure hmmmm very upsetting as each interactction w/ officials slows us down even further. never saw anyone hitting into us or behind us at all! like whatsoever!!? however we were a mixed group of all ethnicities; i cant help but wonder if that had something to do with it. needless to say as a member of a a large organization that encompasses many large companys i will discourage envolvement in any tournaments at this course in the future, unfortunate because its quite beautiful minus the not once or twice but five times of harrassment! that was observed but our party as being completely unwarrented. read more

This is my favorite golf course in the area. It's got just about everything you could want in a golf course. It has a great setting with 3 holes over water, a balanced number of par 5, par 4, and par 3 holes, and its always well manicured. Their hole #2 is one of the funnest holes around when they open the blind downhill portion of the hole, wish it was always open and I really don't understand why they close that hole more often than not. Most of the time they do a good job of regulating the pace of play also, not stacking too many players on top of each other. They have a snack shack right before hole 9 so its really a perfect location for a beer and snack just before you hit the back 9. The best deal is when they have reduced twilight golf rates, cuz you can still get nearly an entire round in if you hustle. Been here so many time and I never get tired of Spring Valley Golf Course! read more

Midweek rate of $51 with cart is ridiculously overpriced. WALKING is $37, for goodness sakes!! As far as the course goes, it's fine. There are a couple of interesting "over the water" shots but otherwise it's pretty much a typical muni type of course--- until you get to the greens... I don't want to be a complainer, but the greens are just plain no fun to play. Fast and tricky, this course requires a much better than average putter to 2 putt on these greens. My advice is to drive a mile or so over to Summit Pointe. More scenic, and midweek walking rate is around $25! read more

This is a great 18 hole course and the only reason I am not giving them a 5 star yelp is because of the Ranger here. I took my father to this course for fathers day and was paired up with another 2some. They were an older couple and a little slow, but we were not holding anyone up. A few groups behind us about 4 back, were being held up by the group in front of them and were complaining so the Ranger came up to us to multiple times and wanted us to pick up and skip 3-4 holes, and I'm guessing along with the 2 groups behind us also. I obviously refused as we were not holding anyone up, but was constantly being asked by the Ranger. I paid for 18 holes and plan on playing 18 especially since I'm not holding anyone up. This situation was handled very badly. Other than that this is great course to play, nice long par 4's and 5's with a good amount of hazards, but not enough to make you want to rip out your hair. I am going to try this place one more time to see how the experience will be and see if they will continue to earn my business. read more

I played SV today, but didn't really like it. Everyone told me, "it's great," or "It's better than Summitpointe." No way!! And I crushed Summit on Yelp too - so this place really is extra weak. Strange layout, two #2 holes, slow greens... It's also a short course, only a par 70. The dudes in the pro shop were annoyed and aloof. The pace that day was so bad that my boy left me on the 16th because he couldn't take it anymore - and the two regulars we were with were laughing because the pace was pretty good that day. To top that off, the rates are comparable to many much better courses. This place isn't worth the $50-60 they stick you for. In summary: should be much cheaper, because this is pretty much a beginners course. I think $35 to walk it would be appropriate. If it were more affordable, I'd move it to a 3 star. read more

So yesterday I go to play golf at Spring Valley Golf course in Milpitas. I pull out a voucher that the golf course gave me right before Covid-19 pandemic hit because they airated the course without telling golfers. Well because Covid-19 hit all courses shut down. So they just reopened for golf again, you would think any honest business would accept voucher, wrong! I get to register and lady says voucher is No Good, I explain it was givin by the course itself, she says we decided not to accept vouchers that they gave out! I replied but the virus pandemic closed courses and we couldn't play? She said No-Good! Can you believe that! Un-American! I will be telling everyone not to patronize this course! Nobody should play here! If you can't honor your own voucher after date because of virus pandemic closed you down, then I hope nobody plays here! Very unprofessional! Come on people, do what's right! They are not a top ranking golf course in bay area, but pretty forgiving course design with challenging greens and best customer service. Dan is a general manager and he is so kind and generous enough to help me to find out my missing account information even when he was extremely busy with tournament customers on weekends. A Bay Area Gem. I had not been to Spring Valley in some time, many years. Just pulling into the parking lot was a treat, you feel like your on a vacation in the mountains not at all like your in Milpitas, it just makes you feel like you can slow down a little. This is one of the best locations in the bay area for a golf course or anything else outdoors for that matter. I was at Spring Valley for lunch and not able to play golf that day although I did make a tee time for next week and look forward to going back. My buddies say its a great place to play, I generally remember the lay out and liked it but I guess I find out more next week. I went into the restaurant ordered a grilled ham and cheese sandwich and went out and sat on the deck facing the golf course and just enjoyed a beverage and the great view. The sandwich was perfect the view was awesome and I fount the people to be attentive and courteous. The guy in the pro shop seemed like a good guy as well, I bought one of their logo shirts, great price, very cool logo (I like cool logos). Over all Spring Valley is not to be miss if your in the area and want a good lunch in a relaxed atmosphere, a vacation on your lunch hour or on the weekend this is a very cool spot. The only negative comment I would make would be that they gave it the wrong name, it should be called Serenity Valley Golf Course. I can't wait to go back and play. read more

Ya know, for the price, you really can't beat this place. The course is certainly quirky. There are two #2 holes. (You only play one unless another hole is closed for maintenance.) #6 is an incredibly awkward blind uphill drive. Luckily, we had locals with us to point us in the right direction. (Unfortunately, that doesn't mean my ball cooperated.) The greens on the Front 9 are small but flat while the greens on the Back 9 get crazy at times. The course designer did a fantastic job using mounding to create an optical illusion on #16. I'm still trying to figure out how the green breaks uphill. The slope rating is questionable. I think it was a 114 if I remember correctly. I think the course plays a LITTLE bit harder than some similar courses, but certainly not too hard. Really, really nice clubhouse for a dirt cheap muni course. Great food and beer. We played out here super early on a Friday morning and the course was filled with regulars. I must say, everyone was really, really nice out here. The only downside was a foursome who was holding up the entire course. The marshalls did absolutely nothing about it. By the time we walked off the 15th green, we could see that they were 2 1/2 holes behind the group in front of them. Front 9 = 1 hour 50 minutes Back 9 = 3 hours That really was a huge killjoy on an otherwise neat little course. read more

I have to comment on the friendliness and positive manner this course staff conducts their customer relations. It's just the best you're going to find at a golf course anywhere. You are greeted with smiles and positive personal comments. It's a family oriented wholesome healthy group of people and i compliment management on choosing such a great group. What a contrast to the dismissive self absorbed conduct you are greeted with at many other neighboring courses. I play year round and sometimes check out the conditions of nearby courses.
