Nice little course tucked away back in the Milpitas foothills. Great views of the back valleys. Course is rather non-descript, but a few challenging holes. Numbers 9 and 18 both require a pretty hefty drive over the water to clear. Nice to walk in the warm sun and cool breeze. Nothing super fancy, just a nice course to play on at a reasonable cost. Driving range and putting green available. Decent pro shop. Attentive and helpful staff. Nice snack bar/restaurant with a lot of nice hot and cold plates. Make it one of your rounds, I am sure you will be glad you did. read more

Some of my golfing buddies enjoy playing here because they offer a discount if you have a Passport Card. Unfortunately, my friends can only play on the weekends, and this course is known for slow play. On my most recent round, our tee time was for 12:20pm and we ended up teeing off around 12:45pm. That's fine, I can always practice a bit more at the range or work on my putting. After teeing off and making a bogey on the first hole, our group is greeted by a back-up on hole #2 of two foursomes. Our wait there, even with the group ahead of us waving us up on this par 3 was about 10 minutes. Hole number 3 is a par 4, so by the time we arrive at the tee box we're able to hit. The next hole is another par 3, another 10 minute wait. This was pretty much the pace for the entire day. I was never able to get into a rhythm on the course. Subsequently, my score and my opinion of the course is low. It seems this course tries to squeeze more golfers in by making the tee times closer together...it just adds to the frustration. Normally, starting off at a time where you have 5.5 hours of light, you can finish a round of golf. The sun began to set as we neared the 17th hole. As the sun starts to retreat, everyone's pace of play speeds up, trying to either get through, or get in a couple more holes. It is also, when there are many golfers retreating and thinking they can finish the hole number 18 on the way back to the clubhouse. People will try to tag on to your foursome, or even cut in front. Your pretty much have to protect your position on the course and not let anyone cut in. I did not find this enjoyable at all. I have played here during the week and my opinion has been completely different. But the weekends here, this no way to spend a sunny day and would rather be working. The course does have a driving range where you hit off rubber mats. There is a good short-game practice area, including a practice bunker, chipping area and practice green. The parking lot near the clubhouse fills up, but there is additional parking down below near the 18th hole. read more

I have played Spring Valley a few times in the last month or so. Its a very forgiving course and not too long. It has good driving range and putting facility. The fairways are decent and the greens are pretty deceiving. A lot of times you would think downhill and the ball would hardly roll. You got to play here a few times to get a feel for the direction and distance of the putts. Keep an eye on the overall elevation as that affects your putting. Overall a decent course in decent shape. I have to agree with the reviews about ridiculous green fees during the weekend and the cart fees. read more

I really like this course because it's challenging in parts, fairly forgiving as well as being quiet and aesthetically appealing. The rounds tend to be slow on weekend afternoons, but since I'm not usually in a hurry I don't mind it all that much. The Men's Club offers some great discounts. The staff is only all right. Some of them are very friendly, but one or two are a little grumpy. Oh and the hot dogs are great! read more

Spring Valley is a great course at the base of the Milpitas Foothills. Similar to Santa Clara or Santa Teresa in playability (ie. for the most part , fairly straight forward, flat holes with some dog legs here or there, and three or four really fun or picturesque novelty holes) The greens here drive me nuts! But that didn't factor into my rating - I'm just a poor putter. Plus since its in Milpitas is all about deals! (See my Round Table Pizza - Milpitas Review). PLAY THE SUPER TWILIGHT HERE DURING THE SUMMER! get there right when it starts, get a cart and you can usually get 9 holes in before the sun goes down for less than $25. Another REALLY COOL thing about this course is there are usually flocks of WILD TURKEYS running around the course. Some detractions are the pace of play on weekends. They usually let too many people go "early AM" so the back 9 on a Sat or Sun can take forever! The range closes earlier than the course which is odd to me and NO VERIZON CELL PHONE SERVICE so taking clients on a work day here is a no-no as you can't keep abreast of emergencies at the office! Played here yesterday for the first time in 20 years (was away from golf). Was very pleased. Course is wide open in most places, and it's very hard to lose a ball (I only lost 1, compared to my normal 3-6), which I enjoyed. I did play well, so maybe that was the reason I didn't lose a ball (or vice versa?). You do have to hit over water on three holes. There is some elevation change and a few doglegs. There's a snack shack you pass by on several holes, if you want something to eat or drink (no beer cart). The greens were fair but fast, on a couple of holes most of us hit it past the hole. I read in other review about rude people and slow play. I found the pro shop staff polite, and we saw many friendly rangers all day, so perhaps they are trying to speed things up. Our round was 4.5 hours, which was good. Did not eat at the restaurant, but the food looked good. read more

Really fun track for people who want to grip it and rip it. Super wide fairways and lots of space for your wayward tee shots. Greens were soft and receptive, but at the same time rolled quick. Fairways were in good shape. Marshall was friendly and chatty with the course knowledge. There are maybe four bunkers on the entire course, three of which are on 18. Water not really in play on any hole assuming you can at least carry your tee shot 125 yds. This course might be a bit uninteresting for an above average golfer. No beverage cart. No cart GPS. Cart fees/$2 cart key fee seemed a bit steep/unnecessary. Phone reception is spotty, especially on front 9. Pace of play was a bit slow due to a group of older gents playing a few groups ahead. read more

Got stupid lost trying to find this place in the dark...once i found it, however, it's like, oh...derrrr that should have been easy to get to! Nice staff, nice course. A bit pricey but I can see why. Fun course overall. Everything seems doable here even the water shots are setup to succeed, not fail like some courses. Kind of hard to find this place your first time, just keep going up the hill past ed levin park. Nice driving range here. They do have a stupid $2 cart key deposit. Seems like they are just hoping you wont come back for it since it is so little. Just an annoyance. Open fairways, bad shots dont equal a lost ball all the time. I like this course and will play it again if they keept the fees reasonable. read more

I didn't get a chance to take a stab at the course itself (not yet!) but I had a lot of fun around the driving range. The range is pretty nice. There is plenty of space and plenty of room to take your swings. It's a quiet environment so be careful cheering when you get a good hit. It's also really embarrassing when you nick the ball and it ends up hitting the barriers.. Trust me. Right beside it is a place to practice your putting and wedge shots. It IS a little cramped though so watch out. The balls come out of a dispenser a short walk away. I can't remember the other rates but I chose the $8 for 100 balls. Don't forget to put the basket underneath the dispenser or you'll end up having balls everywhere like what Kenny N. read more

Ok, ok... Shi shi it ain't... but then again, neither am I, so it's a perfect fit. I wish that the more challenging downhill version of #2 was open occasionally, but other than that, you get what you pay for. Located in the Eastern Foothills of lovely (ehem) Milpitas, this course makes the most of the topography. The architect used elevation undulations and dog legs to make you think on a few holes. On a few others you have the pleasure of massive trees. Then there are still 3 more where you have to hack it over water. Lot of risk reward shots. The fairways are hard (thank goodness), but they are always decent. You'll find grass under the ball 90% of the time. The prevailing wind is out of the west so you can bomb it back toward the snack shack from the #8 tee and feel like a big dog. Make sure to stop after you sink your birdie for one of the best Bloody Mary's in the Greater Bay Area. Spicy... nicey. The pace can be a bit annoying as there is always a backup on the par 3's (2, 4 & 7 especially), but what course isn't crowded on the weekends? Pace of play is a huge pet-peeve of mine. I'd prefer a 2.5 hour round as opposed to the typical 2.5 hour 9! Other than that, the staff is great (especially F&B), the greens are good and it's a nice walk (imperative!). You'll see plenty of wildlife, hang gliders and rif raf. I can definitely say "Yay! I'm a fan!" Hit 'em pure! read more

We had our wedding reception last 2013 from this place and it turned out very amazing. The manager is very accommodating and he makes sure that everything i need is being well taken care of. Definitely my favorite course in the Bay. As a intermediate golfer, the course is the perfect balance of challenging and fun for my playing ability. The course is very well maintained and the staff is extremely responsive and personable. The cafe has great food and is the perfect spot to hangout and grab a drink with friends after a round of golf. Highly recommend you check this place out. read more

5 years since my first review of this course, so I thought it was time for a brief update. 1. You'll note that more recent reviews tend to rate the course conditions better that earlier reviews. This reflects continued investments in the course. They've built or rebuilt many of the tee boxes, added combo tees, irrigation and drainage and continue to up their game when it comes to maintaining the course. 2. The greens are quite challenging due to complex and significant undulations and a number of greens with illusions. Oftentimes the landing areas that give you any reasonable chance at a 1-putt are quite small. 3. I have literally played several hundred rounds at this course and I have never seen the pro shop staff do anything questionable. Over that time I have had the opportunity to see the staff deal with many *difficult* customers. If anything they are courteous and patient to a fault. Really, if someone is trying to get a deal that has expired or make some clearly unreasonable demand and they've explained the situation ten times clearly and courteously while the line keeps accumulating, what do you expect? Eventually, they are going to have to ask the person courteously to make a decision or step aside. Those are the only kind of *dissatisfied* folks I've ever seen in the Pro Shop. 4. Pace of play is typically 4-4 1/2 hours though I don't play a lot on Saturday or Sunday. Some weekdays 3-4 hour rounds without even jumping over a group. The rare exception is when you get behind a sizable tournament. The staff is usually really good at letting you know the conditions when you check in, or in the case of tournaments, when you call for a tee time. read more

Spring Valley is one of my favorites and I've made it my home course. It has bunkers and water hazards and is fair to the average golfer. You don't have to be a long driver to stay out of trouble. But the greens are a bit tricky and can be hard to read. The cafe is also very good and I usually have lunch there. It has a nice driving range too. Too bad it's out by the foothills of Milpitas, east of highway 680 so traffic can be an issue. read more

I don't write very many reviews on Yelp because i think word of mouth has lost it's value since the dawn of foodies and hashtags. However, because i come here 2-3 times a week, i feel it maybe appropriate to share a blurb or two about this awesome course. Spring Valley Golf Course & Restaurant is one of the best places to tee it high and let it fly. The tee boxes are always clean, fairways plush, greens soft, and service great. So whether if you're looking to have your golf fix, or just hang out at the restaurant & bar, you can count on them to get the job done. * Please excuse this tangent but you won't have the best cell service here because it's up Calavares and in the hills. However, i've thought about this long and hard and have decided that this is a good thing. A great thing actually, because it's the EASIEST way/excuse to duck your wife's phone calls. (well played Spring Valley) The club house and restaurant is employed by a lot of what seems to be average Joes who simply love the game. They're always friendly and willing to chat. I've been to places where workers can be snooty and obnoxious, but not here. Everyone for the most part always has a smile on their face and can really hold a conversation about what ever you want to talk about. If Cheers was a golf club, this place would be it. *Note to management, you have great guys and gals working for you, keep it up! Do not patronize this course on weekends! We played this last Monday and this has got to be the most overpriced golf course in the world. The course itself is ok but $54/walking??? Plus they don't have a half cart fee so a round of golf can cost you $84! Get real. You can play a good course like Half Moon Bay for that much on weekends! They do have a good rate Monday - Wednesday 11 - 2 where the fee is $37 with cart. Stay away from this place on weekends unless you have plenty of money to throw away. read more

I like this course for the most part and have been playing there for a number of years. It's not overly tough, has some challenging holes and a couple of tricky greens on the back 9. Because I work close to the course I sometimes hit balls and putt during my lunch. The problem is there are always the same group of guys on the putting greens inconsiderately being too loud for others to concentrate on their own practice. Management should post a sign letting those individuals know to be courteous to others by keeping their voices down so others can focus on their practice time. read more

This course has the worst tee time management. With only 7 minutes between tee times the course is packed and the pace of play is glacial. I had a 3:07pm tee time, didn't get to tee off until 3:20. The first 8 holes took just under three hours. When we did see the ranger he told us to do whatever we wanted to pass the time as it wouldn't improve. We ended up playing 1-8, 18, and then 1-9 again just so we could actually finish the 18 holes of golf we paid for. We had to convince staff that it was ok to do so. The course itself is in fairly decent condition but with poor time management I can say I will not go back. Such a shame as this could be a great place to play. What a waste of time and money. They need to learn better time management. read more

*BEEP BEEP BEEP* goes my alarm at 5:30 am saturday. i bolt up, scared that i was hearing the snooze alarm for the 50th time (much like my work days). oh, phew, i'm not late for my 6:20 am tee time! that's right folks, that's the one thing that i will get up that freakin early in the morning for! waking up that early wouldn't be so bad but i was tossing and turning until about 3 am anxious about how i would play because i haven't touched my clubs in probably 2 yrs and haven't had time to go practice at the range. needless to say, i shot a 94 which typically wouldn't be so bad but at this easy course i wasn't up to par (pardon the pun)! highlights of the day was making two 35 foot puts for par!!! note to self: i'm not a young 22 year old anymore, and need to get myself the ajuma push cart to lug my clubs. 3 stars because the course was on the easier side and no apparent signs of what number hole you were on. read more

TWILIGHT MID WEEK PLAY played on 5/2/08 called the pro shop, 2:30 on a Fri, Terry the starter said is wide open... got there before 3 and this course got a huge face lift 7yrs ago... and the layout is basically the same, but has better rough now and greens. there's a great practice area and driving range there, with 2 huge putting areas. the club house is huge with banquets up to 200+. The course was in awsome condition and the greens were fast and still a touch firm as they were sanded 3wks ago. as I played the course, I just couldn't help remembering what it use to look like and how its change for the better. the pace of play was really fast, just over 3hrs, and while the valley was windy as hell, this course had but a breeze. the twilight rate was really great too, like 26.00 and only 23.00 after 5pm up there. the weekend price is up higher and theres other courses that might be allot better than here, so I like this place for Twilight rates and afternoon play best....here's another thing that was just awsome, its in a little valley up there, and there's a park on 2 sides and horse ranch on the other side, ITS QUITE.... no city noise, just wild turkeys gobbling.... the course is fairly wide open and had a good challenge for your game, as it not only lets you rip it, but pays to have good course mgmt too. overall I give this course 4 out of 5 stars. its not pebble, but its a great place to play golf and enjoy the hills, peace and quite... so the downside if there was one..... markers on the fairway need new paint to show distance. split cart fees if no one is riding with you.. 13.00 not 26.00 add sand to the carts for the fairways... my rating is 4 **** for twilight play and only ......3 *** for weekends.... read more

I actually like this golf course, but have basically stopped playing here because of the flakes in the pro shop. Today because it was a convenient place to meet up with my playing partners I decided to play here again. MISTAKE! It seemed like there was going to be frost delay, so I called them at 9AM to ask how backed up they were and if they could get a twosome out between 10 and 11 AM. Ya, 11:52 they say. I get there warm up, go to check in around 11 and they say they have an hour long delay because of the frost. But I called you 2 hours after sunrise to make a tee time. O, well, we can't always judge how busy its going to be. Weak, but ok, I'll buy it. I hang around an hour, come back to check in, and now they have no record of my tee time, no one in the pro shop can remember talking to me on the phone, and the delay is now 90 mins, i.e. I might get on around 2:30. This is a good course. Good beginners course. Wide fairways lots of nice par 5s and some great looking holes like 9 and 18 shooting over the lake. Had a 9 am tee time and didn't get backed up except the 2 and 10 and even then it was a couple minutes. The one knock on this course is the putting greens. They are really bumpy. Always plays slow. The pro shop was good the Marshall was nice even when my buddy almost hit a girl on 9 teeing off. Anyone that bashes this one too hard is probably a snob use to playing at almaden country club or somewhere where you need a 50k membership. Grow up snobs it's a public course! read more

Got out there recently on a weekday at around 4:30, trying to take advantage of the nice weather and long summer days. For $27, it was awesome! My friend and I had nobody within a few holes of us and we managed to get all 18 in before it got dark, a 3:45 round... which is virtually unheard of here in the South Bay, regardless if it was a weekday. Overall, course was in decent shape and good value for the price, I would definitely play here again. Pretty straightforward. On a day with nice weather, it's pretty amazing. Carts are fine. Beer is cold. Not a lot of traffic. No rush and no waiting. Good for walking or cart. I think it was about $50 a round. read more

I play here often but always wonder why I keep returning. The course itself is not that bad. The grass isn't maintained as well as other courses but the layout makes it a simple course for beginners and a fun course for those who have been playing for awhile. The customer service is not that great though. One time I called to set up a tee time and was spoken to rudely and he hung up on me without giving me a confirmation that the tee time was set. I called back to verify and again he was rude but confirmed the tee time then just hung up. Just today my friend and I were paired with a father and his son. His son just started so he was very slow. We didn't care because everyone sucked that much when they first started... They sent a marshal out to hurry us up which was fine, but we could hear them talking through the two-way radios. The marshal was a friendly older gentleman but the guys inside the pro shop were unprofessional and rude. I believe it was the same guy named "Dave". They didn't expect us to hear what they said but since the radio was turned up so loud, we couldn't help but listen to their rudeness. The golf course itself is decent though. 2-stars for a decent golf course but the course is not nice enough to disregard it's pathetic pro shop workers and customer service. read more

3.5 Stars if money is no object for you. Solid 18 hole place for beginners and intermediate golf players. Can be a little hard to find, but keep going online maps are wrong. Pros: + Beautiful setting in the hillside similar to SummitPointe with nice elevation change shots and 2 easy over the water shots + Practice green is large with many breaks + Range balls are in nice condition and all Nike Practice, no grab bag like at Muni. + Easy course to play. Con for anyone with a handicap under 12-14 or so this course will be boring for you. + Easy course to walk. A couple long walks between green and tee, but mostly within 30 seconds. + Carts are zippy. Me and my friend combined are 500+ lb and it had plenty of go. Cons: - Course is short and fairly easy so def play 1 tee back from normal. 4 sub 350 yard part 4's from the back tees. - Half the driving range is on a hill which causes the practice mat to be uneven. There are not many slots so the flat practice slots get filled fast - A little pricey for a public course at $55 green fee + $14 half cart fee. - Upper parking fills fast so you have to park below walk up. read more

Two stars for the course itself. Scenery is nice and course is well maintained. Minus three stars for staff and tee time policies. Our tee time was 1:15p. The guy in the pro shop told us there's a 30 minute delay. On top of that, we waited at least 5 minutes at every hole--and only finished 13 holes in 4 hours (it got dark). Why does this place overbook and/or not turn groups away that are late for their tee time? To top it off, our cart's battery died after the 13 holes and we had to have another cart push us back. The marshall is worthless. He did not regulate play and on at least one occasion drove his cart in front of us while we were teeing off. He was polite, but a marshall needs to have balls. He probably is better suited to be a Wal-Mart greeter. read more
