I can't rave enough about this hospital or their veterinarians, vet technicians and assistants, and client care specialists. They are truly an exceptional group of professionals. My pets have seen both Dr. Overman and Dr. Oldfield. Both vets have my highest degree of trust. They have always gone above and beyond to provide my pets with high quality care, demonstrating both expertise and genuine compassion. Both vets, as well as the entire staff, actually KNOW my pets. I don't even think they need to review their charts (although I know they do) because that's how well they've gotten to know each one of my furbabies throughout the years. I truly believe that this team loves my dogs and all of their patients as though they were their own family members. This staff has been with me through some of the best and worst times in my life, and I consider them to be among the most empathetic and supportive individuals that I've ever known. Front desk and techs were nice. The vet Nicole Marciano had terrible bedside manner. Firstly, we were obviously worried about our cat, and she was trying to make jokes that were not funny at all. Inappropriate. Secondly, she didn't even try to touch my cat. Every vet I've been to has always at least tried to listen to my cat's heart and lung sounds, but she didn't even try. (And I've only been to multiple vets because of moving cities.) additionally, instead of explaining things appropriately, she straight up just said "yeah your cat could die" if she was given a certain sedative for an xray. Like you should really explain the actual risks and rational and not just say she could just die. Also, why am I the one thinking of other solutions from vets I've talked to? We took our dog to this vet for about a year. It was fine for standard shots/heart worm medicine pick up but our one experience requiring urgent care was poor. Our dog was having respiratory issues so we made an appointment 2 days prior. An hour prior to our appointment the office calls to cancel it. Apparently our dog is a week overdue for her rabies shot and the vet was pregnant and refused to see our dog. I find it a little absurd (driving to work is endangering your child much more than my lazy bulldog), but I can understand wanting to take all precautions. The main problem was that there wasn't any effort to try and remedy the last minute cancelation. We basically were told to take a hike (i.e. their "soonest" appointment was in another 3 days). So we are hiking somewhere else. read more

I'm giving 3 stars because I really like the doctors and the front office staff. I'd only taken a pet to them once before because my regular vet couldn't get her in once when she was sick. I liked them so I decided to start taking my cat and two dogs there. Yesterday I took my cat in for shots and some bloodwork to check on why she's been losing weight. This was my first visit with them beyond the initial one when my dog was sick. When I got to the front the bill came to $430. I almost passed out! For an exam, shots, and bloodwork I expected it to be around $250. I came to that based on previous appointments with my original vet. I paid the bill without saying anything, but now I know I can't start using them as my regular vet because I can't afford them. Very disappointed, and still kind of in shock. read more

If I could give this clinic a zero for both customer service and veterinary care, I absolutely would. Tonight, I arrived 10 minutes late for my dog's 5:00 pm appointment due to heavy traffic. As we were pulling into the parking lot, the receptionist called to ask if we were still coming. I informed her we were here, but she then told me we were 11 minutes late and that their policy doesn't allow for us to be seen after being late 11 minutes or more. I was shocked, confused, and frustrated--if the clinic's policy is that strict, why call and ask if we're still coming? I explained that we were here and that my dog was very ill, but the receptionist refused to check us in, stating that the doctor would not see us. My dog's eye was blood-red with yellow discharge, yet they refused to provide any medical care. When I expressed my frustration and said I would never return if I had to go to another vet now, she remained indifferent and insisted I reschedule. This situation was made even worse by the fact that my dog's eye issue was already known to the vet. I had mentioned it during her annual checkup just a few weeks ago. Although less severe at the time, the vet never addressed it. Had it been treated properly then I wouldn't have needed this new appointment anyways. That, combined with the refusal to see us for being a few minutes late, is beyond outrageous and I will never go back there again! We were only 10 minutes late, and instead of checking us in when I arrived, the receptionist chose to argue with me over the phone. Inside the clinic, the rest of the staff backed her up, claiming that the next appointment was at 5:30 pm and there wouldn't be enough time to see my dog. I then pointed out that every time I've arrived on time in the past, I've had to wait in the waiting room for extended periods. It's ironic that when I'm late, there's no flexibility or understanding--only to be told that it's different because their delays don't count, only mine. The entire front desk team must have been one of the rudest that I have encountered in a long time. I had them print all of my records for all of our pets and will never return to this place! Had a wonderful experience! First, I have been taking my cat to another vet for years. She had an issue with her eye, I noticed she was scratching at her ears, and also sneezing more. I called to make an appointment with the vet I was using and they wouldn't squeeze me in. I even called a day after making the appt because my cat's eye looked worse and I was concerned. However, they still wouldn't work with me and didn't even ask for details of what was going on. After this, I decided to call Springfield Animal Hospital and spoke with Sarah. I explained the situation and how I was worried about my cat. She was very sweet and asked some follow up questions and got me an appointment the same day I called! I was so thankful for that! I arrived and was greeted and checked in right away. We saw Dr. Oldfield and the technician assisting her was Maria. They were both very friendly and thorough! The exam went well and the Dr. told me exactly what she was going to do to figure out the eye and ear issue. After the diagnoses, Maria showed me how to apply the eye ointment and ear ointment as well. I felt so supported and cared for. Also, I was impressed because the doctor truly listened to what I was saying. I told her how the last time I had to use ear drops for my cat, I got more on me then in my cats ears since she would shake her head right away with the liquid drops. Based on that, she gave me a different type of prescription. While my cat makes it difficult to get this ointment in, it is already going better than it did with the traditional type of ear drops. Another thing I truly appreciate is the follow up! Amanda called me on Friday morning ( about 1.5 days after our appt) to check on my cat and asked how everything was going. I was surprised they called to follow up b/c the Vet I was taking my cat to prior to this, never did! Springfield Animal Hospital will be our new home now. My friend referred me to this clinic. I was taken aback when I learned how much getting my pet neutered here would cost. So I called a few other hospitals in this area, and realized that they all charge almost half what this place quoted me. If I am paying double, I expect the best quality of service in town. But that's not the case. "If we don't call you, that means your pet's fecal test result is normal." NOT ACCEPTABLE! I was going to get my puppy spayed at Springfield Animal Hospital. I had a number from Spay, Inc, and thought this was the best price I could get. I took my dog to the Springfield Animal Hospital for the pre surgery "check up" which amounted to them weighing her, taking her temp and asking me questions. What a waste of my time and $67.00. I contacted Spay, Inc and told them I didn't find this low cost at all. The woman there recommended some other places in the area but I didn't find them low cost either. She suggested I travel south of here to get a lower price! What she failed to tell me, which she later admitted was she knew about The Arlington Animal Welfare League that sells vouchers . You do not need to be a resident of Arlington to buy a voucher. You just need to make 60 grand or less and show proof of yearly income. My 5 pound dog is spayed now and it cost me $92.50. read more

I'm not used to this quality of care at the Vet nor do I appreciate being spoken to that way in a professional environment. when discussing my kittens spay, I stated that I wanted to stay in the lobby. The front desk lady (I wish I would've asked her name) rudely stated that it's for pet drop off. I live in DC- it didn't make since to go back and forth. The Surgeon overheard the front desk staff and interjected that she's going to see my kitten first. Ultimately, I opted to use her regular vet in Navy Yard. Unfortunately I was not able to have my baby girl seen by this office. I don't know if they were good or not but the reason I gave 1 star is because I was told that the fee would be $75 for pre operation but once I arrived it turned to almost $300 plus the deposit of $75. The $300 is what they charge for the three separate wellness shots plus checking for intestinal parasites. I am disappointed that I was not told upfront about the additional cost until I arrived. I made my appointment for my cat to be spayed and I was quoted a price of $800 but I first have to get her checked out before hand (which is understandable) I did not care for the initial $75 quoted fee and then telling me before her appointment that it would be an additional $300 once I drove an hour to their office and they keep the deposit if you don't cancel within 12 hours of the appointment. Please be upfront with your customers. Plus with the prices they are charging I was expecting a resort like atmosphere but what I saw from the outside was a unkept building with mismatching raggedy curtains. It seems like if they don't care about the area then what assures me they are going to take good care of my baby?! read more

I would not recommend this practice. It has had difficulty retaining doctors and staff over time. While the support staff is loving and efficient, the hospital management is driven by profit motive. It's rather dumpy inside and out of date. Fence in the dog run area needed repairs. You can do better nearby. read more

While my entire story doesn't have a happy ending, Springfield animal hospital indeed saved my babies life's and I will always be so grateful for the little time I had left. I think springfield animal hospital should not associate with or be in the same building with The Regional Veterinary Referral Center neurology group or even recommend their services. I took my dog to Springfield Animal Hospital from 2018 until I left the area in 2021 and I will never forget how well they treated me and my pup! My dog was always very nervous whenever I would drop her off (happens everywhere - lol) but before I would leave I could see she was perfectly comfortable with hanging with her buds, the staff, for the day. Aside from being super committed to my dog's well-being SAH offered excellent customer service from the Apple Pay at the front desk to the useful and timely email reminders for visits. read more

I visited Springfield Animal Hospital (SAH) with my senior cat for the first time in March 2017 after moving away from my prior veterinarian. The human and animal experience was positive. The front desk staff, vet techs and veterinarian were all genuinely friendly, made eye contact and didn't upsell services I didn't need. Additionally there was no cat mommy shaming for having an indoor/outdoor cat. My second visit was in July 2017 when my senior cat started losing weight. The second experience was again positive. I really appreciated the veterinarian taking the least invasive approach before resorting to more invasive, more expensive services. I plan to make SAH my go-to hospital while I am here in the DC area! read more

If you contact http://spay.org, you can get a "control number," which will drastically lower the price of your feline neuter/spay. Not every vet participates, but Springfield Animal Hospital does (which is the main reason we opted for them). Called on a Tuesday and was able to schedule the (simple) surgery for Thursday. We had already received an estimate from a previous visit, which the receptionist confirmed and honored (despite a small underestimation they had made). She then went over the pre-op instructions and asked if we had any questions. When it was time to bring in our lil' bugger (7-8am drop off)), he was nervous as hell. But they took great care of him; and when it was time to pick him up (anytime after 4 pm), he was in great spirits and purring. A technician/nurse reviewed the post-op instructions with us (including pain medication) and wished us well; so off we went. When we got home, there was a message on our answering machine that they had mistakenly omitted the FVRCP vaccination. Apparently, the technician who was supposed to administer the shot got pulled into an emergency and wasn't able to; but the staff thought that she had. In a nutshell, they offered to administer the shot at our earliest convenience and refund the vaccination fee because of the mistake. Wanda, the hospital administrator, was very apologetic and helpful; and given her embarrassment levels, I'm sure it was a rare mistake from their usually choreographed operations. In addition to the refund, she also hooked us up with a soft Elizabethan collar to prevent our cat from licking the incision while it heals (which I will return once the incision point is fully healed). Now, why am I giving a business a 5-star rating when they "messed up?" Because how a business handles mistakes/errors is a true test of their integrity and customer service. To save face, they could have just ignored their mistake; and honestly, we would have never known. But they CONSCIENTIOUSLY revealed their mistake, endured the embarrassment, and made it right. This review is ONLY for the small animal pet boarding service offered at the Springfield Animal Hospital. We have a small 7.5 pound dog that we need to board for 13 nights starting next week. Based on the Yelp reviews, cost, and the fact that it's an animal hospital, I was really looking forward to leaving her here. THANK GOODNESS we did a kennel tour before deciding and with enough time to look for another place. Sure, the rate is $17 per day/night for a small dog (compared to $50 per night at other pet boarding facilities); however, the dog is caged all day and all night. The guy who took us on the tour stated that they walk the boarded dogs 3 TIMES A DAY! Can you believe that?!?! I mean, I don't know about you, but I certainly have to relieve myself more than 3 times a day. Then I asked how long the walks are (half expecting about an hour each with some interaction with other dogs and people)... the guy was PROUD to say that THE WALKS (only 3 times a day) ARE ABOUT 8 MINUTES EACH! I was mortified! There is no way I can leave my dog there for 13 nights... she'll die of loneliness and perceived abandonment. There were two small dogs caged at the time of the tour and one wouldn't stop shaking (the other appeared to be sleeping). When I asked about the dog that was shaking, the guy brushed it off and said that it was a nervous dog. HMPH! Furthermore, the two dogs were in the metal cages with only a THIN (I repeat, THIN) half of a towel (they looked like bath sheets that were cut in half) in the cage. I asked about taking food and treats and other personal belongings, like a bed and toys, for my dog and the guy discouraged this by telling me that they wash the stuff in the cages and her bed may get lost so he wouldn't recommend it. He then proceeded to show us some soft canned food that he mentioned they give the dogs if/when they get diahrrea while being boarded (I guess so they don't have to walk them more than 3 times a day). We left this place in complete and utter shock! I'm appalled that an animal hospital of all places would not walk dogs or interact with them more than 8 minutes, three times a day. I'm very sorry Springfield Animal Hospital, but I thought it was important to write this review and state everything that I experienced. I have never used Springfield Animal Hospital for veterinary care so I cannot speak to that (they have 5 star reviews on Yelp). I just wish Hollin Hall Animal Hospital had pet boarding... all things would be okay in the world if they did. read more

The staff were rude over the phone, I was attempting to reschedule my appointment, or at the very least extend the time I could come in for that very day and the operator continuously told me that I would forfeit my deposit fee which I wasn't told about and that I received an email about it. In fact the operator told me it was a 24 hour notice for forfeit and then 12 hour completely changing her stort . All I received was an invoice with nothing stating about a 24 or 12 hour notice. I've gone here twice now and have spent $500+ each visit. I found that the vets do seem to really care about your pet, which is the reason for the 2nd star, and not a 1-star rating. However, on my dog's last visit the vet recommended multiple tests to be run because she thought she heard a heart murmur. Ok, fine, I agree to run the tests and they all come back NORMAL. Not cheap, but I'm relieved that my dog is fine. The hospital then quotes me $800+ for dental work (some extractions and a 'special' anesthesia since my dog 'may have a heart mumur'....even though the tests came back normal). I was really annoyed that they were still pushing the heart condition, when all tests came back normal. Also, I ended up taking my dog to my family's vet and the dental work was only $125...a HUGE difference from the $800+..sadly, I won't be going back. read more

I can't recommend Springfield Animal Hospital enough - even though they are super busy, they never seem bothered to take care of my gigantic, rowdy dog - no matter how many disasters/injuries they've seen him for! All the doctors are great, but I especially like Dr. Phillps, she's awesome :) Boarding rates are phenomenal, and my dog actually seems to enjoy staying there (probably because they've learned that he'll behave if they give him tons of attention) - don't be put off by the exterior of the building, they actually have a large fenced backyard for playtimes and all up-to-date equipment inside. read more

My puppy has been coming here for his vaccines and I was told that there was an exam fee required for the first visit (and only the first visit) which totaled $75.00. Yesterday, he was scheduled for his final round of vaccines and I called ahead to get pricing but Holly- the receptionist- failed to tell me we would be charged another exam fee of $75 because he was getting a rabies vaccine and that particular rabies vaccine required an exam which would cost an additional $75. The kicker is, I had already scheduled his rabies vaccine at a Petco clinic but was told by Holly, the receptionist at the Springfield Animal Hospital, that my puppy could just bundle it in with the vaccines he was getting yesterday and it could only be an extra $38. Not once did Holly or any of the staff tell me that there was going to be a $75 exam fee. I would've just kept my rabies appointment at Petco. We ended up being charged over $200.00 without even so much as an apology being offered for the poor communication on their part. When I called back to get an explanation I was hung up on. This was extremely disappointing. We will never be back to this scammy place. Do not trust these people! read more

I'm a very overprotective pet parent, so when I moved to the area, I researched a good vet very thoroughly. I'm glad I did so, since I am REALLY happy with this vet. I drive from Arlington to bring my pets here, meaning I probably drive past 25+ other vets offices on the way. The front desk staff, vet techs and doctors are very friendly. They are very knowledgeable, but also don't try to "up sell" unnecessary things. If my pets don't need it, they don't push it. I have both a dog and cat, both whom get very nervous at the vets office and are probably not the most pleasant to deal with. However, the staff does not let on that they aren't their *favorite* patients. :) You can definitely find less expensive veterinary offices, but I genuinely believe you get what you pay for. And when it comes to my pets, I'm willing to spend more for excellent service. I cannot recommend Springfield Animal Hospital strongly enough. (I'm sure all the doctors are wonderful, but I have had especially positive experiences with Dr. Phillips!) read more

These guys deserve another shout out. We adopted our beloved miniature poodle when she was older and without knowing too much of her history.We brought her to SAH when she developed an array of puzzling and alarming health symptoms and we could not have made a better choice in choosing a clinic. The staff was warm and gentle with our frightened poochie, and our dog's vet corrected a previous mis-diagnosis in her medical history without subjecting her to X-rays, which other hospitals had recommended over the phone. As an added bonus, their costs are cheaper than a lot of other well reviewed animal hospitals in the area but nothing beats having our dog act like her normal self again. By the way, other reviewers say that Dr. Phillips and Bissell are great, but we had Dr. Overman, who actually isn't listed on their website. We'll definitely return. read more

We just adopted our dog about 2 months ago and she came with some skin issues. I've brought her in twice now and each time they seem to just throw more medicine at it instead of actually diagnosing it. Also the front desk staff has been less than friendly both times I've been in. On top of all that their prices seem pretty steep. I may be starting the search for a new vet. read more

My boyfriend and I recently took our lab mix to this practice and we are extremely please with the level of care we received. We had just switched from the vet he had been seeing since he was 6 weeks old. The prices are extremely reasonable, the facility was clean, and you can tell the staff genuinely loves animals. Our pup, Beau, saw Dr. Caldwell and we were extremely pleased. She was great at answering any questions, explained the procedures in detail, and offered MULTIPLE resolutions at different price levels without jumping to what would break the bank. She even gave us a follow up call a few days later to see how Beau was doing with the new regiment and gave us more info regarding further allergy testing we had discussed at his appointment. She never once seemed pushy and actually listened to what we had to say and what our concerns were. This practice does offer care credit which is phenomenal! Just be warned if you are still in your promotional period, if it's under a certain amount your care credit card will not work. We will continue to take our pup here as long as we live in Springfield! read more

I like all the employees at Springfield Animal Hospital. All the techs there are great with my animals. The staff at the front counter are always polite and greet you right away when you come in. I have to give a shout out to Pat because I have dealt with her the past few visits I've been in and she is very friendly. Springfield Animal Hospital is a great choice for all pet owners in NoVA for veterinarian care and boarding. Everyone is terrific -- friendly, efficient, gentle and kind. We especially like Dr. Phillips, who is excellent with our dogs and great with us. She is very patient and takes the time to explain what's going on, makes good suggestions and answers any and all questions we have. She has no problem repeating information or teaching and sharing related or personal experiences with her pets to help us determine the best course for our pups. We're very happy with the service and care provided by SAH, and our dogs never mind being boarded here! It is a great, cost effective alternative to some of the more expensive "pet hotels" or in home care in the area, and you know the dogs are always well cared for and there are medical professionals available for emergencies. read more

NEVER take your pet here. First, Dr. Caldwell misdiagnosed our dachshund's first spinal injury and said it was arthritis. That was three years ago, and if we hadn't taken him to the ER after seeing Dr. Caldwell, we would have lost him then. We stupidly gave this hell hole a second chance and boarded our dog here, and everything was fine until recently. The last two times he came back from boarding, he had severe back pain. We had to euthanize him this last time - he suffered a traumatic spinal injury, which left him completely paralyzed, while being boarded here. He was a healthy, happy dog before this last visit.
