I read the reviews on Springwood Gardens and saw they were mixed, but I decided to take a chance and see how things went. I have to say that working with Mr. Gibbs and Springwood Gardens turned out to be a good experience. He came for a look at the property, gave me an estimate and made some observations as to what more needed to be done, suggesting that a failing tree be removed, and offering to include it in the price he quoted me for the original job, which was to cut back the many ornamental grasses that line portions of my property and to prune a line of shrubs. A day or so later the trimming and pruning job was done. It took just a few hours and the cuttings were hauled off and everything cleaned up just as promised. Took a week and a half or so for the second part of the job to be taken care of, which was the tree removal. It wasn't a big priority, so the wait was not an inconvenience. That day both Mr. Gibbs and his team were present for the job, and I was impressed with how quickly and efficiently the work was done. In addition to those jobs, the owner offered three extra services that he included in the agreed-upon price that added additional value to my purchase. He had some left over mulch from another job that he offered me. It was enough to refresh one bed. And while the crew was there he asked my permission to have them do two other jobs--prune the shrubs in my front bed, and clean up the leaves in the front yard. I said yes, of course, and all the jobs were done to perfection. So, essentially, he killed two birds with one stone: he kept everybody on his team busy with useful jobs and made sure that he gave me added value. That's what a good businessman does, and I find it commendable. This initial experience has left me open do to doing more business with Springwood in the future. In terms of pricing, they aren't the lowest priced landscape business around, but neither are they the most expensive. I know because earlier in the season I got two quotes from two other businesses. One was outlandishly high, the other offered me a quote that required I buy a package deal that included jobs I didn't want done. Regardless of my appeals, the estimator would not budge off their bottom line, which was too high based on the work I wanted done. I was baffled at their level of inflexibility. I won't be calling them back. Mr. Gibbs, on the other hand, was flexible and helpful in working out what needed doing, and went above and beyond to make sure everything happened right. read more

Today I explored the yard to see why all of a sudden I had so many weeds. well, Mr Gibbs decided to have his worker remove all the material I had laid down to prevent weeds coming back. I was so upset today that I had to pay another company to remove the weed! it was ridiculous! He did this last November! He removed the ground cover and gravel that I had laid back in 2022! It sickens me that he took advantage of me in this way. He took the wooden edging, a flower box and killed a hosta plant that I had for many years. He even took the pot that I had it in! I never asked him to do any of this. I only wanted an estimate of what I needed done. How dare him to start working and discarded all the work I had done years previously! I don't know how much a Creep Myrtle cost, but that is dead too. I should have sued him at the time. Don't know if I can still bring a lawsuit? read more

I had placed a requeset with Angi (formerly HomeAdvisor) for someone to come check out my wildly overgrown side yard. A previous owner had put in English Ivy as ground cover and it really had become a safety problem for us. We attempted to pull it out ourselves, but could not get it out from the roots. Mr Gibbs sent two different people to my house to check out the problem and make sure we were all in agreement in the scope of work. We were able to come to a very reasonable contract price and set up work for later that week. My side yard now is ivy free and I am thinking about setting up an appointment with them to take the yard to the next stage. read more

The flower projects were not completed several plants that we paid for was taken and not replaced(Basically stolen) Had foundation brick that was taken had to request they be brought back. And just left jobs incomplete and never returned to finish them. With the help of a neighbor and an additional cost to me I had to go around my yard and place flowers were holes were left. I was referred to Springwood Gardens Landscaping by HomeAdvisor.  The job was for end of year cleanup and making my yard pretty again.  Previous landscapers had let me down immensely and now I was paying for it. Joe Gibbs came and we talked extensively about what I wanted/needed.  I gave him $2500 and the work was to start the following Wednesday.  They arrived around 2 pm on Wednesday and started the work.  This consisted of removing 2 trees, cleaning out debris from the beds, pruning butterfly bushes, pruning the suckers off a magnolia tree, and pruning a crepe myrtle.  Joe and his team spent several hours defining and edging the beds and lawn perimeter.  They came back on Thursday around 9 and continued.  They planted some pansies in the front yard.  Joe strong armed my neighbor into trimming her roses along the property line because they would "take away from what he was trying to create."  2x8s were placed along the fence perimeter to prevent digging by my dachshund.  The next day it was to rain, so I didn't expect them back.  The following week, no one returned and I texted Joe on Friday to please let me know the schedule and also where do we stand with money.  How much is left of the $2500, etc.  He called me immediately and exclaimed how busy he had been.  He said they would be back the following Wednesday or Thursday to complete the job.  Said he would even power wash my deck for me. Wednesday came and no show, I took Thursday off from work to be there for the completion of the job.  Trouble is, no one showed up and no one called.  At all.  And a lot of stuff was left in my yard.  Some tools, an electric power washer, a string trimmer, a tree pruner, more flats of pansies, and 2 doors (a bi-fold and a glass storm door) that he took out of another job and intended  to take to the dump (instead he dumped them in my yard). We are approaching the 6 week mark from the start of the job and not a word from Joe Gibbs or anyone related to Springwood Landscaping.  I sent him an email last night terminating any further work and requesting that he pick up all of his property. I read that some have had excellent experiences with this company.  I wish I was one.  I am so disappointed.  I ended up buying a lawn mower and a string trimmer and a shovel so that I could at least get it to look good now.  It is spring and everything has already grown up over the work he had done. Oh and the neighbors?  I am so embarrassed.  6 weeks in on a job and no communication for nearly 5?  Totally unacceptable. read more

This company is amazing. Joe Gibbs and his staff transformed our property into a gorgeous setting. My wife initially wanted someone to clean our gutters and we saw a glowing review about SG&L online. Joe came out of course, and did a great job with the gutters, but saw work to be done in the yard. He simply gave us a vision of what it could look like. Within two weeks,fixing some longstanding ground water issues, Joe took the time to re-plant and reuse existing small bushes and small trees around for a beautiful new landscape. So much so, that our neighbors thought we were selling out place and moving! Joe is a master at his craft. He explains his work and and follows through. He and his company are also very environmental aware and do not waste anything. I love what he has done to our property. Extreme attention to detail and such a creative vision. read more

Joe Gibbs was the first person to contact me back from a few companies that I got in touch with. I needed work done immediately for a landscape clean up to put my house on the market. He gave me an estimate and offered some suggestions on a Friday, had a crew out on Saturday. They did a great job on power-washing the entire house and back stairwell, pruned hollies and cutback border plants. They also removed a staircase. Worst mistake. I was quoted 3K for redoing the front of my house, and I paid Mr. Gibbs 2.5K upon his request after his Spanish speaking worker spent approximately 2 hours removing the shrubs from the front of my home. That was almost two months ago. Mr. Gibbs has not done any more work and is avoiding me. Avoid at all costs. I have probable lost over two thousand dollars. I did a little research, I believe Mr. Gibbs, was a former for hire home painter now doing landscaping and frequently relocates. read more

I wouldn't use them again. Mr. Gibbs is obviously a plant expert, but he and his team overcharge for things like pulling weeds, blowing leaves and other normal maintenance. Also, they are very expensive -- 60 bucks an hour per person to pull weeds is just too much. Also, they are disorganized as a company and several times didn't show up when they said they would. read more

Mr. Gibbs is a professional in every sense of the term. He contacted me the same day I left a message through his website. He has an excellent eye for improvements to the property at every level, from quick fixes to preventive maintenance to long time planning. His aesthetics are excellent. The crew that came to do work for us was tremendous as well. Upon arriving at our house, the team leader spoke with me to make certain they understood what I wanted. After completing the work, the team leader took me around again to make certain I was satisfied. They did the best job on our property that we've had, and our flower beds look better than they have in several years. We used these guys recently for a fairly big backyard job - needed bushes moved, stumps taken out, hill evened out, sod put in, and they came in with a great estimate and did a GREAT job. We now have a backyard for our kids to play in that was once an overgrown mess! And their follow-up has been terrific. I held off reviewing so I could see that the sod lived through the winter - it looks fantastic. But now it needs mowing! I can recommend Springwood for both value and service.
