This year I inherited my brother's used 2016 Mercedes Sprinter 4x4. I drove it down from WA and after a short period here at home I needed to find a trusted mechanic for a needed checkup. I was recommended the Sprinter Pitstop through a friend. I spoke with Lucca and he was able to get me in within 24 hours. They did a full detailed inspection and labeled items of level of importance that needed repair. Of which I had them do the work. More importantly, my engine light had come on and he explained that it had to do with the DEF system which can be very pricey and possibly still under warranty, even at 133,000 miles. They reset the engine light for me, and when it came on again I took it to Mercedes SAN Diego as recommended by Lucca. Mercedes ended up replacing both sensors and the DPF filter under warranty, as was explained via Lucca, saving me multiple thousands of dollars! They could have just told me what needed to be replaced and took me for many thousands, but instead they recommended a better path that was covered via Mercedes. The work they did do on my van was fair priced and well done, and the money they saved me was much appreciated. Sprinter Pitstop Review - 4 Stars I brought in my newly purchased 2019 Mercedes Sprinter 2500 camper van (built by Exclusive Outfitters) to Sprinter Pitstop for a full bumper-to-bumper inspection. I'm new to the Mercedes and camper van world, but I've been around off-road builds, diesel vehicles, and RVs long enough to know the value of a solid evaluation--especially before finalizing a private-party sale. Sprinter Pitstop came highly recommended by a coworker who builds and maintains his own Sprinter. My first contact was with Scott (owner) via text, followed by Lucca (service advisor). They scheduled me promptly and charged me $____ for the inspection, which I was happy to pay. On arrival, the shop was clearly busy, which I took as a good sign. Their techs performed a thorough assessment and delivered a detailed list of recommended repairs--totaling nearly $12,000. That included a nearly $2,700 Schedule B service (fluids, filters, transmission, differentials, etc.), plus additional suggested work like leaf springs and ball joints. It was a lot to take in, especially for someone unfamiliar with Mercedes maintenance. While they assured me the van was a good buy overall, I felt overwhelmed. I appreciated Lucca breaking the repairs into "must-dos" and "nice-to-haves," but I still had trouble prioritizing what truly mattered. I paid for the inspection and an extra smog check, completed the van purchase, and decided to seek a second opinion. Ultimately, I didn't go with Sprinter Pitstop for service. I got a second quote from Mercedes-Benz of El Cajon ($4,800 for just the Schedule B) and then a third from a shop that walked me through each issue--what needed immediate attention, what could wait, and the pros/cons of each approach, including video explanations. That extra clarity helped me make confident decisions. Had Sprinter Pitstop approached things with that level of consultative explanation--helping me understand what was urgent versus optional--I might have stuck with them. I never doubted their professionalism or expertise, but the communication style didn't match my methodical, research-heavy approach. Bottom line: Sprinter Pitstop is a high-end, professional shop with deep Sprinter knowledge. If you know what you want done and are ready to spend, they're a strong choice. For me, I needed more guidance and breakdowns before committing to the work. That's the only reason I'm giving four stars instead of five. read more

The employee proceeded to tell me to look it up (as if it's not 2025 and that's the first thing I did) and he was unable to find out himself. Owners have changed. Quality of services and repairs is definitely not the same as it use to be. Will not be bringing my van back to them which is unfortunate because they were the only repair shop I trusted with my van. Final straw was my van had a check engine light when I picked the van up and they said it was due the battery being low and cleared the codes and gave it back to me. Next time I drove the van the check engine light is back on and when I asked about it they said that code wasn't on when I was at their shop and I need to replace a sensor. Little do they realize I have a code reader in the van and looked at the 2 codes at their shop to see what they were before they looked at the codes read more

Tim and his team are outstanding. They are so important to San Diego and greater SoCal area for providing a MUCH higher value service than going to a MB dealership. I've had a lot of things done here - oil changes, differential fluid changes, interior work, oh and just another little thing - they swapped out my old motor (block damage from previous owner/accident) with a brand new OM642 motor shipped directly from Germany. This was huge for us and helped us get back on the road while we travel and work remotely. Tim is honest and transparent with all the work he does and he has invested well in the equipment/technology he uses for ensuring the work is done correctly. I've been here 2x now and Tim and his team are great. Both times he was professional, respectful, and spent time answering a bunch of questions (while clearly busy with a shop full of work to be done). If I end up going with a Sprinter, I'll absolutely purchase one from here. They thoroughly inspect and make sure the vans are solid. It's about $5000 worth of maintenance before they're sold to you so you can rest assured that the van is as good as it can be. I've done my research and Sprinters are not cheap and do require about $1000/year in repairs so if you're not ready to deal with that (or the price of Mercedes parts) I wouldn't go for a Sprinter. But #vanlifers everywhere seem pretty happy because they are the best for offroading so pick your battles. Sprinter Pitstop takes pride in their work and having met them 2x and not purchased anything but them still treating me well and giving advice, I'd say any negative review you see must be an anomaly. read more

Ahh- the dreaded 100,000 mile plus sprinter service. If you want a sprinter to go to 250k miles it has to be done but it is expensive. No way to avoid it. Just received my 100k plus sprinter back from full-service with a bunch of other items that needed to be done. It was not a small project. Tim and his team did a great job. Sprinter drives great now. Too many things were fixed to list. Considering all the work that was done, prices were reasonable and timely. Couldn't have imagined the bill at Mercedes of San Diego. I rarely leave reviews unless the experience was exceptional, and Sprinter Pitstop definitely met that bar. I called Friday afternoon needing an alignment and a fix for a weak parking brake. Tim was able to get me in Monday morning and the whole thing was said and done in a couple of hours. Mercedes quoted me $1400 to fix the parking brake and Sprinter Pitstop got it done for basically free while they were in there, since only an adjustment was needed. I also spent some time talking to Tim about my suspension and he a) definitely knows what he's talking about and b) does honest work instead of trying to rip people off. I wish all mechanics were like this, and I highly recommend Sprinter Pitstop. read more

Recently brought my 2016 4x4 sprinter van to Sprinter Pitstop (SP) after a local tire shop accidentally damaged my roof (in their rack) during the service. In the past, I've used SP for impeccable mechanical service but never thought of using them for body work until now. Actually, I came to find out that many body shops can't fit a sprinter in their paint bay - so this made SP an even more logical choice. Long story short, SP knocked it out of the park! Repaired the damage perfectly and it's always a pleasure to do business with Tim and/or Andrew! If you have a sprinter and want the best service, definitely go and see them. Very informative, easy going and did a great job walking us through the the inspection. After the purchase the van required service due to mileage and basic wear at 75K miles. There's so much to say about Sprinter Pitstop but one word best describes their service, "Honest". After an accident in Baja in our brand new Sprinter we had to have it towed across the border and the closest location with the best reviews was Sprinter Pitstop. Not only were Time and his team honest and transparent with us he was really fast repairing what I considered a significant accident to our sprinter. They kept me updated with current status and worked with the insurance company handling the process. All I can say is that it was a smooth process and I never had concerns about the repair. While we had it in the shop I had already started looking at improving the ride of a very rough suspension stock setup. I was looking at the Van Compass 3.3 setup with adjustable shocks and asked Tim if this was something that they could install. Tim quickly said that they could fit it in and made some other recommendations. Once our van was completely repaired and had the suspension kit installed we flew down to San Diego to pickup our van and it was in perfect condition. The van was washed and the ride was AMAZING!!!! My fiancé and I bought a custom converted Sprinter from Tim and Andrew and it was an all-around fantastic experience. When we made the purchase the van was about 80% complete, so we had an excellent feel for how it would turn out and the level of craftsmanship they put into it. They are clearly engineers; the design was highly functional and well thought out. The bed converts to a long table, the lighting is all recessed, there are fans above both the stove and the bed, and the car radio is wired to the house battery so that we have tunes when we're parked! From there, we had the opportunity to specify the finishing touches -- what color for the mattress cushions and the cabinet doors, a swivel for the drivers seat, an extra table... things like that. They helped us think through some of the trickier aspects, such as how best to handle a large screen map / music display (get a cheap head unit and wire it up to a separate tablet), and how and where to install a table to work while driving. They ordered and installed everything with a smile. They also offered us a 45 day mechanical warranty so that we could drive it around and make sure everything worked properly. As it turned out, the stove didn't work properly and they happily replaced it. All in all, five stars for price, quality of work, and generally being pleasant to work with. Highly recommend. read more
