We went in to look for wedding bands and had a great experience. The service was gracious, friendly and extremely knowledgeable. We didn't worry that someone was trying to sell us the most expensive choice, because we felt the owner was working hard to meet our budget and our aesthetic needs. I was so impressed with how much time Jim took working with us. He seemed to know everyone who came in to the store by name, most patrons were clearly return customers. I would HIGHLY recommend this jeweler to anyone. We ended up bringing in some other jewelry for them to fix as well since we felt so comfortable with our experience. I have used Spritz on occasion for probably 15 years. I've mainly just used them for watch battery replacements. I figured, "hey, they're local and have been in downtown forever--even through the whole pedestrian mall fiasco of the mid-1970s to mid-1980s. Keep the dollars in the community, yada yada." I've never used them for "big-ticket" purchases like engagement rings and the like. So, I can't attest to their pricing or service on those things. I agree with others that the service is not exactly hospitable or thankful for the patronage. They're not rude, but they definitely don't view you as the side their bread is buttered on. Maybe it's just me getting batteries and not dropping phat stacks on low to mid-tier bling. One thing that always struck me about Spritz is the lack of patrons. Throughout the years, I have gone there at different times of day and I always seem to be the only patron, or one of the only, in the store. I've often wondered how they survive. It seems the same Fighting Illini tchotchkes, huge wall clocks, and pewter "bless this house" bread plates have been in the display cases for years. Well, I think I've finally given up on my experiment with supporting local businesses, at least with regard to Spritz. The last couple times I went to get a battery replaced cost $10.00 (as recently as four months ago). I thought this was fairly pricey for such a simple, quick job. Wanting to support a local business, I swallowed my fiscal pride and paid it because "hey, 73% of the money stays in the local economy." Not anymore. Recently, I went there for a battery replacement that now cost $15.00! I don't know if this was because I came in 20 minutes before closing time (5:15 PM -which is just an odd time to close), it was a digital triathlon-type watch which had a couple of screws instead of an analog twist-off case back, or if I was simply the lucky winner of the "customer overcharge award." In any case, I will not be back. Walmart costs $6.50, including tax, to replace a battery. With so many companies nickel and diming us to death, there is no reason to be a glutton for punishment, especially when a 10 minute car trip can save almost 60% of the cost. This is where I ended up getting my wedding band at the last minute. They worked with a vendor who had exactly what I wanted, at a price that was within my budget. And, it seemed a lot easier for them to get this ring than any other business I had inquired with. The downside is that their service doesn't seem very organized. For example, I had to get a wider-cut ring hours after I ordered with them because instead of calling beforehand to make sure the vendor had what I needed, they waited until the last minute. Other than that, I was okay with what they provided. Customer service could afford to be a little friendlier. read more

I have no idea why so many folks have reported a bad experience here. I have had nothing but wonderful service on jewelry repair. They are friendly, honest, and do a thorough job. Recently I took my rather elaborate wedding ring in for cleaning and inspection. One of the staff thought a couple of stones were loose, but Jim called and said -- no, they are fine. He told me to have it checked regularly but he didn't see it being necessary -- and he was very nice about it. So I hope they do well at their new location and I highly recommend them for repairs and maintenance. read more

Went in on my lunch hour to get my watch battery replaced, 10 minutes and $10 later it was as good as new! When I was there 3 adult grandkids were buying their grandma a new watch and it was one of the sweetest things I've ever seen, which probably made my experience even better! Service was efficient and it's in a great location to grab lunch and get your work done all at once. Will go again! read more

Worst Customer Service experience of my life. Was treated extremely rude, disrespected, and unprofessionally when working with Hannah, a Sales Associate at Spritz's. The engraving on my wife's wedding ring was damaged during it's repair & resizing. Hannah had a major attitude and was not at all about making sure we had a good experience. I had to interject in the business transaction and ask her to please leave the transaction, and that I had never been treated so horribly in my life in a place of business. I received a call from the owner 4 days after, who did offer a brief apology for our experience. The experience was one of a kind, and one that I would not want anyone who reads this to experience. Staff is rude. I took two watches in for repair after I spoke to a rep on the phone, a Citizen for a broken internal piece and a Tissot for a battery. I was trying to explain what another watchsmith said would need to be done to the Citizen and I was interrupted several times and was told the other watchsmith did not know what he was talking about. Spritz did not even want to hear what the issue was nor would they let me show them the broken piece.The watch actually has a broken piece on the inside that needs to be repaired. The watchsmith who showed me the issue could not repair it as his shop was closing due to personal health issues and he was not taking any new repairs. The second watch needed a battery. They did not put the watch back together correctly the first time and I now fear that the gasket is torn. So the 10 dollar battery is now costing me a trip to Windsor jewelry in Indy to see if the Tissot is damaged from the mishandling. As a paying customer I have never been treated so poorly before. They treated me as if I wanted a hand out. I will never go back. At least I was able to see what kind of store it really is before I purchase my next watch. I may have made the mistake of buying it from them. I regret going there. read more

I got an engagement ring and both wedding bands custom made here. I found the staff to be very helpful and insightful and eager to help. Spritz specializes in diamonds, and reading the reviews here people are going to them to do unusual things and complaining that they aren't knowledgeable. If you want diamonds or custom jewelry with real quality the staff will even show you rating scales of the stones you choose and help you make the perfect piece. If you go in with something cheap from Mexico they will tell you there's nothing they can do because they have much higher standards. This is the perfect place to go if you want to find the perfect jewelry at the right price, and you know that it's going to be the highest quality. I was very satisfied with my visit and I would recommend Spritz to anyone. read more

TAKE YOUR BUSINESS ELSEWHERE I've come here for two things. The first was to get a ring resized and the second was to get a watch fixed. Getting my ring resized was expensive, they sent it to a jeweler in Chicago, and it took about a week more than they promised. Okay, not a big deal but still annoying. The watch is another story. It's a very important watch to me. It was my father's and he passed away. I took it in shortly after his passing, over TWO MONTHS ago. First of all, it was clear that I was very sensitive about the watch and emotional in general considering my father had passed away two days earlier. One of the cashiers was so insensitive, harsh, unsettling and was rude about the watch and its condition. That's warrant enough for me never to go back there. If someone is coming to you with an important piece of jewelry and asking you to fix it and has obviously been crying, be freaking respectful. The service I got in person there disturbed me, along with the service I get on the phone. Second of all, the original timeline was 3-4 weeks. If they needed parts, they were going to call me and it was going to take longer. I get that. I went 4 weeks without hearing from them. I'd lost the claim number because it had been so long. Not only were they rude about that, but they changed the amount of time. I called and they said "well, we told you it would take 6-8 weeks so we are right on schedule." No...It has now been 9 weeks and they are still in no way apologetic, have no idea why the watch is taking so long, and in general, making me very upset. If I still have to pay the insane $400 by the time I get my watch back, if I ever do, I will be irate...there is no such thing as customer service at this place. It's almost like they have been there so long they feel entitled, that they don't have to prove anything to anyone. DO NOT GO HERE. read more

He didn't look up - didn't say anything, and seemed annoyed when she asked for assistance. They wanted $135 to fix a clip earring! I went in for a watch battery, and he was equally as rude to me. I went here to get a watch engraved. The person I worked with told me he couldn't do it the way I wanted. When I asked for other options, he was difficult and didn't seem interested in helping me at all. I brought the watch to another jeweler who engraved it the way I wanted, no problem. Perhaps "they" know diamonds, but are not educated re Native American jewelry from the Southwestern U.S. I went to get a bracelet repaired; my turquoise bracelet and all American Indian jewelry was deemed inferior and sloppily crafted. I left immediately as I appreciate and understand the art form of jewelry from the New Mexican Pueblos. I like to support local business but will not do so if their customer service is bad. The owner was quite rude to me on the phone when I questioned a charge on a product that came from their store. It was a very simple procedure and I felt they should have done it as a courtesy for the amount of time it took them and the fact that the item was purchased there. Every time I have been in there the place is practically empty and they need to update their store (70's). Will never recommend them or go back there. read more

went in to get a double strand pearl bracelet made. When I picked it up it was 5' instead of the requested 8'. When I picked up 2nd time it was 9'. I said to the man behind the counter. I think it is too big now. He looked at it and said, If you asked for it to be 8 inches, then we made it 8'. I said I have other bracelets 8' that are not this long and it falls off my hand when I put my arm down. He said, and I quote: Then don't put your arm down, walk around like this. " and he demonstrated by bending his arm at the elbow and wrist up. He had another customer and I left. When I got home I measured it to be 9'. I called him he repeated something he also said in the store."every time I have to restring pearls it costs me money." I said it is the 2nd time it is wrong. He said to bring it back in. I will bring it back and tell him he has to fix his mistakes. never going back after that. read more

Took in my brand new watch to get additional links I ordered put in. Links were scratched and one link had several pin sized dints in it. Taking it back tomorrow to get buffed out what can be buffed out. Dints will be permanent. read more

Worst shopping experience of my life !! Used this store a lot when Robeson's was open, but what I witnessed over the course of four weeks made me sick. I WILL NEVER GO BACK, OR RECOMMEND THIS STORE ANYONE !!! One of my good friends, Sarah, lives in the Cherry Hills "subdivision" of Champaign. She is a lawyer with a firm in Chicago and runs their Champaign office. Her husband is a Dentist with a successful practice in Urbana. Sarah noted that every time she entered the store via the back door (after shopping at Robeson's ), the owner of Spritz would yell out "Has anyone heard from Mr. Spritz today ?" All the employees turned their attention to Mr. Greenfield(the owner), only to see him pointing to the door Sarah had entered from. She found it odd, but dismissed it as coincidence and went to view the Lladro figurines. Her mother's birthday was a week away and she had quite the collection of the Spanish glazed figures. Sarah was familiar with the available pieces and the ones her mother already had. Being an "independent" shopper, she appreciated not being approached right away. Sarah had been in Spritz a few times over the past couple weeks, trying to decide which piece she would purchase for her mother. A pleasant woman who could usually be found in the little "island" area next to the glass cases that held the figurines. She was always there to help if it was needed, but did not hover over Sarah. Still not sure which one to buy, Donna(the woman that worked in the island)let Sarah know that there would be four new pieces arriving in a few days if she was still unsure. Donna told her if she wanted to leave her phone number, she would call when they arrived. Three days later Sarah received a call from Donna. The new Lladro pieces had arrived and would be put in the display case within the hour. Sarah went right over, again using the back entrance. For the 14th time in a month, the owner, Mr. Greenfield yelled loudly "has anyone heard from Mr. Spritz today?" Sarah had stopped to look at the Swarovski display before going to see the new Lladro pieces. A heavy set woman with red hair,who was working a on a watch band commented to the assistant manager,"For heaven's sake, does he have to yell the comment about Mr. Spritz calling every time a black person walks through the door?" Enraged, Sarah thanked Donna for all her help, then she walked out without buying a thing !! Last point for this review. The woman that worked in what they called "the boutique", was named Donna. She was crippled with advanced arthritis and was legally blind. She had told me months ago that she had applied for a leader dog from a school in Rochester, Michigan and had been accepted. She would be gone for three weeks and said if I needed any help while she was gone, I should ask for Diane. I was so happy for her. I was very happy for her and told her to call me when she got home, settled and back to work, so I could come and meet her new eyes !! Almost three weeks to the day, Donna called to let me know that she was going to be back at work on Monday and that more Swarovski pieces were due in that day as well (I am a collector). I promised to come in that day to meet her new eyes....and see the new crystal creatures !!! Monday rolled around and as promised and I kept my "appointment" to come meet her new eyes. When I arrived, the store was empty. Mr. Greenfield was nowhere to be found (which is always nice). I headed towards the boutique, excited to what breed of dog had become Donna's eyes. But there was no dog with Donna, and one could tell she had been crying. Long story short, Mr.Greenfield had made poor Donna tie her new eyes in the back room as "we do not allow pets in Spritz". Donna had explained that by law, K.P. (the name of her new eyes)was allowed to be by her side no matter where she was. "I will not allow my store to smell like a dog." he said in front of me when he returned !! I will NEVER do business with Spritz again. I let everyone that asks, know why not!!! Mr. Greenfield is racist and complicates the lives of his employees and illegally keeps a guide dog in the back room and away from his blind employee !!! He is in a term, a real douchebag !!! read more
