What a charming café! The décor was classy, and the atmosphere cozy. And the service there was simply wonderful- the lovely barista behind the counter was friendly, pleasant, and oh-so-patient with me when I inquired about the different types of tea they had to offer. After I had a warm cup of tea in my hand, I wandered over to the gallery adjoining the café and found a comfy chair to sit in. As I leaned back in my chair, sipping my tea , I admired the artwork on the walls and the jazzy music playing softly in the background. I also enjoyed perusing through the art books there. Small cafe with a decent espresso menu and a few offerings of sandwiches and the like. It doesn't seem like much is prepared in the back and most items are ordered from other places. They offer bagels and eggs which they make right in front of you on an electric griddle. Service was slow when I went on a Sunday morning. There was only one person working. I also noticed a chair with a laptop next to it, seems like they aren't too busy hence the ability to sit and browse. Cute seating and ambiance. Many people seem to like to hang out here. Got a mocha and it was ok. I wouldn't necessarily come here if there were more options but it's great for a walk from our apartment so location is lovely. read more

Adorable little cafe right next to Washington Park! I'm a big fan of the artsy feel, good music and free wifi. I usually get a cappuccino or a blackberry Italian soda and can't complain. There's always an interesting assortment of artwork on the walls from local artists. It's relaxing and reminds me of a Parisian cafe! Ok....I knew I could give this place 5 stars. I went back two more times--a new counterperson who made really good non-watery iced coffee, and he was genuinely friendly. I work in customer service as well. I also make very little money working where I do, so I can understand how customer demands and boss expectations just don't add up to $10/hour, but a "hello" and basic service accomplishes a lot, at least 99% of the time. Currently under new ownership. The original owner opened a place in SF. The quality of pastries seems to have improved with the transition. My office a way from home. Free wifi, cheap drinks, nice atmosphere and I never get hassled when I buy one drink and stay for three hours working on the laptop. My only complaint is that it closes at 7pm. read more

This cozy and clean little cafe has definite positives and negatives. On the plus side, the vibe is just right - it's small but not tiny, cozy but not cramped. They manage to create a spacious atmosphere with tall ceilings, warm, buttery yellow walls, and lovely photography. There's only a few wooden tables and chairs along with an IKEA KLIPPAN leather sofa along one wall and a little plush leather chair facing one of the fishbowl-like window alcoves. Music is suitably neutral - jazz and world music played at just-audible levels, enough to cancel out background noise. I'm a tea drinker, and they use mostly Stash tea - which is registers on my tea snobbery scale as cheap-but-tasty (and therefore A-OK, tastier than some of the more expensive brands like the woefully overpriced and overrated Numi, which makes something more like dishwater than actual tea). On the negative side, the hours are ridiculously limited. While it opens early enough for the pre-work crowd, this place closes up shop at 5 p.m. every day, which means it's not a place I can go and do my writing or reading in the evening. Major bummer. Also, the tea is a bit on the pricey side for what you get - $2 for a single bag of Stash is a little steep for me (sorry, no pun intended). You'll pay a bit of a premium here, but then the atmosphere is clean and spacious while not feeling at all sterile. And my husband and I each got a cup of tea and then parked on the sofa to read for about two hours without being hassled (in fact, the girl working there was unfailingly polite and attentive), so for space rental that's not so bad at all, even on a very tight budget. If this place closed at, say, 8 p.m., and had some healthier snack options (salad? fresh fruit?) then it'd probably get five stars from me. Alas, I can only give it four. Still, for a neighborhood cafe with free wifi, decent-even-if-a-little-spendy tea, and a calm and cozy atmosphere, it's quite all right. read more

This is a fun place with two rooms (be careful you don't try to enter by way of the half-door!). I went here to study and hydrate on a recent hot day. Unsure of exactly what I wanted, I asked about their tea selection, and was delighted by the high quality and variety of selections. The gentleman working behind the counter readily agreed to make an iced version of the green tea I ordered, and promised to bring the resulting beverage to me once it was brewed. I also had a delicious biscotti. As I studied, read, and enjoyed my iced green tea, a refill was brought to me; it was from the same pot, and was included. Before I left, I perused the menu and other food selections. They carry all-natural yogurt, with no high fructose corn syrup or Aspartame. This is different from other cafes, and the difference is a good thing as far as I'm concerned. I look forward to having this be a regular study hangout as I continue my education. read more

Unfortunately Spritzers has gone way downhill. The service is glacially slow, the prices are way too high, and they are often out of baked goods too early in the day. I would rather patronize local small businesses instead of chains like Starbucks, but when the service, price, and selection is so bad it makes no sense to go to Spritzers. Yes, they have free wi-fi but the password changes daily (?) which is a huge pain. I really want to like this place and I like neighborhood businesses that support and display work by local artists. It's almost like you're pushing me to go to Starbucks. Please read some of these recent reviews and get your act together Spritzers. You're not what you used to be. read more

The Good- Great coffee but lately there have been a ton of grounds on the bottom of my cup. I loved when they had Illy coffee but they changed to another brand, still great coffee though. Bring your own cup and you save a whopping .50 cents which really adds up if you go alot! Great people- I would say, almost always, the baristas are so sweet and nice but where did the most amazing BOBBY go??? He is missed. There is one new barista there, major space cadet and it took a good 1/2 hour one morning to get a cup of coffee and there was only two people in front of me. Has happened a few too many times and to a lot of people I know, so I now generally just go to the donut shop down the street where I can zip in and out in under a minute and they have good coffee, too. read more

The worst iced coffee I've ever tried. I got a small mango smoothie that is composed of 1/2 cut of mango juice from the concentrate and ice and couldn't even fill the cup all. They did charge the full price!!! Coffee and smoothie tasted really bad. Never coming back! read more

A charming little cafe on central ave where i go maybe 2-3 times a week. Love it for it's quietness and easy fowing music in the background. They have a really vast selection of italian sodas and there latte's are really good. Pastries are delicious but you got to get there early or they're all gone:( Free wireless (my fav) and the barristers are very polite. read more

FED UP! Yesterday the morning crew didn't open AGAIN. Why is it that when any other place of buisness says it opens at 6:30, you can walk in and get a cup of coffee at 6:30? But not Spritzers. For the last few months what that means is someone shows up at the earliest 6:30, but usually later, then you have to wait for them. And then they have the nerve to tell potential new customers that they really open at 7:00, they're just opening a little early! At ten minutes to seven I finally left, (one more time), yesterday. I really like the space, and past staff has been wonderful. The only dependability the last three or four weeks has been Tuesday and Friday, when Spritzers is actually open and has coffee when they open. Does the owner not get that consistency is what creates a customer base? Get rid of the rude inconsistent staff, and return to the type of staff you have had in the past. My wife and I make a visit to beautiful city of Alameda to take a break from Southern Cal. We always make it a habit to visit Spritzers, to relax from the long drive. Excellent coffee and the service was great! The art gallery next door and the unique fixtures throughout the shop made our visit a memorable one. This is the perfect spot to recharge with an espresso in the morning or to unwind from a hectic day in the evening with a latte in hand, watching the passer bys. Don't like it. The owner can do a lot better - what's with the wood 'furniture' (sculptures that look like a bad art installation) you can't sit on? The pastries are some sickingly sweet stuff. Get some healthier stuff. There is never-ending, interminable nerve-rasping JAZZ blaring in your ear; I swear it's never changed once. Coffee is inconsistent, worse yet, they'll pour a cup when the brew is just starting -- like, no clue that this is strong enough to take paint off a car? Can't they also offer a carafe of milk instead of just half-and half, so you don't have to ask for it? I would say mediocre at best. My friend and I like to try the different copy shop in Alameda so we thought we give this place a try this morning. I ordered a medium soy almond flavored latte. The barista repeated it back and started to make it.I pay for my coffee and start walking around looking at the art. The floors all dingy was scrapes in it and the chairs the upholstery is peeling off I did not want to sit down. Take a sip of my coffee and it's absolutely scalding hot and burn the top of my mouth. And it tastes terrible like burnt milk. I go back up to the front the braces now watching game of thrones on her phone and Ross are eyes when I very nicely asked her if she wouldn't mind please remaking it because it scalding hot and doesn't taste good. After she put any Allmond in the latte and she said no. I was very confused of how that did not happen after she repeated my order. I think you're for remaking it two times she never once said oh you're welcome no problem it was a annoyance that I asked her. Immediately went back to watching game of thrones. Then as I was leaving said oh I need to charge you for that flavor please pay. So I happily paid the $.55 for my flavor. Even though she had to remake my drink and acted completely annoyed. Any time I'm in Alameda, the first place I stop is at Spritzers, to get a good, hot cup of Illy coffee. The service is friendly and swift and the choice of pastries is great! The outside seating is wonderful if I decide to stay and soak up some sun and people watch! Inside is cozy and clean with amazing art displayed from local artists and the jazz playing in the background is soothing. Parking is easy. Nice place to stop and chill for a moment. read more
