Fairly standard overpriced grocery store of sorts conveniently located across the PATH Station entrance and in front of 70 Columbus & the Residence Inn. Sprove has changed so much!!! They now offer so much more hot foods, including gimbap!! If you haven't been, Sprove is a grocery store but it's so much more! There is a deli counter where you can get sandwiches and to go sushi and salads, there is an Asian station where you can get things like bibimbap, upon, tofu soup, pho, pad Thai, or even beef bone broth soup, or you can make your own stirfry, if you're in a rush then you can get their already prepared to go hot foods or check out their buffet in the back!! There is also a second floor with seating and a sushi counter (although this may just be on the week days) On your way out you can grab some wine from the wine store, pick up a birthday card, or even grab some frozen dumplings. Honestly you never know what you will find here!! That's my favorite part!! I often check out the chips aisle - I love trying new things and this section always changes and has the most interesting packaging!! I also really like the frozen section - it's not your typical shop rite super market staples!! One time I got frozen boba that you make at home in the microwave!! This market was right next to the hotel I was staying at so I swung by for lunch since I just looked up delis that were close by. The door I entered through brought me in through a portion of the store that exclusively sold liquor/beer so that was convenient! The market was HUGE and it was like a mini grocery store. They had ready-made self-serve hot & cold bars, premade hot and cold sandwiches & bowls, and they also had a made-fresh deli & grill area. There was a coffee bar in the center of the store and the woman made me a delicious almond milk latte. After ordering lunch, the woman told us there was a seating area upstairs for eating, so up we went! There were a bunch of tables and high-tops that had plugs in them if you needed to plug in your charger or whatever. The market featured a lot of Asian staples as well as pretty much everything a regular grocery store would have. They had everything I needed and then some!! Everything was so fresh and the people that worked there did it so rhythmically and it flowed so well. There was even a portion of the store that was like a mini florist. If you are in the vicinity and want some convenient food, it's pretty good. I've personally never eaten their frozen items, I don't know if their pizzas are actually moldy from when they turn off their freezers at night supposedly they had some health inspectors come by and shut it down for a while, but I'm still alive. The made to order food like stir fry bowls, sandwiches, breakfast eggs, are all pretty good. They even give a free bottle of water. Maybe if I'm more brave to not worry about spending $50 on the buffet section that's paid by weight, I'd try it. The alcohol section is also pretty sweet. Soju for 6.99 is a deal. I'm updating my review for Sprove and adding a star. During Covid-19 they have really been there for the community. For obvious reasons they no longer have the food bars, but in place of that they have really added to their selection of stocked items. While you still can't find everything like you would at a Shop Rite they have many more frozen items, boxed items, snacks and cheese. The produce selection has also been on point, as is the liquor store. The best part about Sprove is how large and spacious it is. Normally for a small local shop I'd be all about Oliva, but in these times I opt for Sprove because of how tiny and cramped Oliva is. They also have a box of wipes and plastic gloves available at the front. Unfortunately the prices here are still really high, if not higher than they were. I'm talking box of frosted flakes for 7.99 high. I try to only come in for a small shop items I need to buy in a pinch. Just something to be aware of if you need to buy a ton of food. But for a small shop, and especially for produce / dairy it's clutch to have Sprove. read more

Sprove is a natural grocery store with a hot bar, salad bar, and stir fry station. The best thing about Sprove is the location! It is right next to the Grove St Path station, centrally located near a lot of apartments. It is very convenient, and has pretty much everything that you need in one place - fresh produce, pantry, frozen, and an alcoholic section with liquor, wine, etc. Unfortunately, Sprove is very overpriced. Expect to pay like 20+% more than what you would pay at ShopRite (which is only a few blocks away). For example, they charge $12 for a jar of Skippy peanut butter. Additionally, the produce is not very fresh. If you purchase fruit at sprove, plan to eat it that day or the next because it may spoil soon after. Additionally, the selection is not that large, so you cannot expect to get certain brands or multiple options for a product. There will usually only be a few varieties of each pantry or frozen item. However, the varieties that they do have are often high quality! They have many organic, vegan, gluten free, dairy free, etc etc etc options. My favorite part of Sprove is the stir fry station! You get a decent sized portion that will last for about two meals. It is delicious and high quality! read more

This store, which I wrongly thought was called "Sgrove" in some apparent connection to the street and/or PATH station, shouldn't be compared too harshly to the ideal JC grocery store of your dreams. As a price benchmark, La Colombe cans are $3.99, which seems high, except for the places that charge $4.99. And Sahale Snacks are well below Morton Williams levels at $1.99 each. I will forgive higher prices for the pleasant experience including short lines, but will look harshly at quality lapses. I like Sprove a lot. What I don't like is the prices (lol). With that being said, I really wouldn't let any negative reviews keep you from checking this place out. First off, I love the convenience of this place. The entrance is right in front of the Grove Street Path entrance. Sometimes on my way home to JSQ, I'll realize I need to pick up food or groceries or alcohol or whatever and I can just hop off the train, come here, and get right back on the train and go home. It's so convenient. Second, they have a great selection of hot food! The quality is great and the pricing for this honestly isn't bad at all. There's a salad bar, a sandwich bar, noodle and rice dishes, a sushi bar, a hot food buffet, and a cold food buffet. It's honestly so amazing! I love grabbing lunch here before work or taking a break from my commute home to get a reasonably priced healthy dinner. Although I really don't recommend doing an entire grocery haul here (price is a huge factor- the items for sale are extremely expensive), I do like that they have a wide selection of items that are hard to find in my neighborhood shop. I come here to buy tofu, tempeh, and all of my meat alternatives for cooking. Without this place, I'd probably have to travel far and pay just as much. I've never seen raspberries as moldy as the ones I bought at Sprove. I should have looked more closely in the store; they were covered in a deep layer of mold from side to side. On multiple occasions, the loaves of bread I've bought at Sprove went moldy within a day or two. Even the frozen food seemed like it had defrosted and been refrozen. If I was rating the made to order side alone it would get a 5 and if I was rating the convenience store it would be a 1-2 - thus the 3 overall. Made to order: selection is huge, dishes come out delicious and prices are reasonable. Choose from salads, sushi, sandwiches, paninis, burgers, and stir fry. Can order from long lists of options or fully customize. For breakfast add in all the egg related sandwiches you can think of. Staff are friendly, work quickly and do a great job! Convenience store: random selections of items from most grocery store categories but no fresh produce and wildly high prices that together motivate you to go a couple blocks away to the regular supermarket or even a better convenience store. Usually a spot like this is best around apartment buildings for things like the random produce, meat, cheese, bread etc that you want to pick up on your way back home. None of that is here. You can find some non-perishable stuff but selections aren't exactly standard and what does exist can be many times more than anywhere else. I can't say many great things about this market. As everyone else has mentioned, everything is so egregiously overpriced, it's laughable. Fine, it's your business, price your merchandise however you please, but I am most offended by the numerous signs all around the store that are just so abrasive and rude. All the signs imply that Sprove does not trust its customers and will not do anything beyond selling merchandise, like form a community and help its customers. For example, they put up signs everywhere to not use personal shopping bags and instead use baskets to prevent theft. After COVID, they put out gloves and put up a sign next to it essentially saying, "Don't steal!". And then I saw another sign today by the counter saying they don't have any coins for exchange, that "Sprove is NOT A BANK." I of course recognize that these are concerns, but my goodness the messaging is so accusatory and does not make me want to support this store, even if local, AT ALL. There are so many local grocery stores around the area that are much friendlier, with reasonable prices. P&K market on Newark is awesome, will give them my business any day. read more

This place is one of my workplace go-tos for lunch. Imagine a hybrid of Whole Foods and your neighborhood bodega where you can get great quality food, particularly prepped food, at a convenient location (right off the Grove St. PATH), but you pay a pretty penny for it. Nonetheless, Sprove has a lot of variety with its products, from chewing gum to ground coffee, The place is clean and the service is very friendly. The fact that this place also has a liquor store attached is also an added perk! I usually order salads, sandwiches and wraps here, but they do have Korean food, noodle dishes, sushi and buffets. I usually order a custom salad (always consistently delicious and fresh) or a chicken Caesar wrap (sometimes less consistent but still tasty), but I haven't had a bad food experience here yet. Conveniently and strategically located adjacent to the Grove Street PATH station, Sprove Market Place is poised to fulfill your indulgences and your last minute items. The modest size space is well stocked and includes a food bar and liquor store. The site is immaculate and the staff are exceptionally courteous and accommodating. My personal favorites are the sundried tomatoes, Good Belly Juices, gourmet wild rice and cheese varieties. There are limited standard recognized brands available but the adventure and treasure is discovering a myriad of higher-end products that are responsibly sourced and likely to delight your palate. read more
