I rarely get manicures because my face seems to have a bad reaction when I touch it while wearing nail polish. And I generally dislike nail salons because the chemical smell gives me an immediate headache. I decided to give Spruce a try because they use low chemical products. It was such a great experience. As many have noted, there is no awful chemical smell when you walk in. The space is really pretty is well, and conveniently located for those of us who work downtown. I got "The Staple" mani/pedi with Meagan. She did such a great job - I really appreciated her attention to detail. No smudges or even a smidge of polish on my skin or cuticles. WOW! This place is a must! The first thing I love about this place is the aesthetic. It's a beautiful shop with a calming and friendly vibe to it. Everything was very clean and tidy. The service was outstanding! Megan and Jess did my pedicure and manicure and I loved both of them. They have a great selection of colors to choose from. All of the products are all natural so when you walk in it smells heavenly rather than like a bunch of chemicals. Another thing I love is that you can make appointments online! I went to spruce today for the first time and I can't believe I haven't been sooner. Lauren was my tech and I couldn't have asked for a better experience. The shop was beautiful, clean, and the entire staff was so welcoming. I normally am the kind of person who goes to a fancy salon for a pedicure, but after the word i kept hearing about Spruce, I decided to give it a try - I'm so glad I did! I've never been one to go to the quickie salons for nail work, simply because of the chemicals you inhale and really dug the concept behind this place. But beyond the fact that its vegan and relatively chemical free, the decor/ambiance/treatment of staff there is TOP NOTCH, so its an all around win! I went on a random weekday morning that I was off work, and treated myself to their "the goods" pedicure which included a hot stone massage & sugar scrub and wow, I'm hooked. The gal I had wasn't too chatty, was very competent and obviously believed in the product they were using. They had a TON of options for polish and it was applied with skill. I wasn't scheduled for a polish change on my nails, but inquired once I saw how good the pedi was coming along and even though my girl was tightly scheduled, they were willing to squeeze me in - that's some great customer service. I'm usually one to only get 1-2 pedis/year max, but I may schedule myself for a regular there going forward! I would assume parking is a bit of a headache on weekends, but if you go in the AM, its probably not too bad. I am all for a day of rest, but I kind of hope they open limited hours on Sundays (maybe 10-3?) so that you can do brunch and a pedi (and not have to pay the meters until they start at 2!) The atmosphere and decor in their is bright, minimal and has as southwestern vibe - very conducive to relaxing. I'll be sure to be back again soon! read more

i am definitely going to get my nails done at spruce from now on! the service from andrea was excellent and the rest of the staff was very friendly and chatty as well. i felt welcome from the moment i walked in the door. the salon is bright and tastefully decorated and doesn't smell like your typical salon. no chemical smell at all! i had the the staple mani-pedi. get the sugar scrub upgrade; it's worth it! andrea is skilled and friendly and i had a great time chatting away with her. my nails look great! i never felt rushed at all. the vibe was really great. read more

What an adorable place with fantastic pedicures! I got my mom The Goods pedicure for Christmas, and it was awesome. They offered us coffee when we came in, which was perfect on such a cold day. The scrub was great, and the hot stone massage felt amazing. I love that they don't use the spa foot soakers- it seems so much more sanitary. This is the best polish job I've ever gotten, and when my mom's nail polish dripped, they redid the entire nail to fix it. They told us to sit and let the polish dry as long as we wanted, and wrapped our toes before we left so we wouldn't mess them up. (I've never seen that before!) This was more than I normally pay, but it was totally worth it. They also have a box of applicator-less tampons in the bathroom. Very nice touch! read more

The place I normally get my nails done was closed so I decided to try this place. The atmosphere is amazing and everyone is so friendly. If you're looking for more than just a quick in and out nail service this place is great! They take their time, you can have a conversation with them and by getting your nails done here you're supporting a local business! It is a little pricier than most places I've gone but the extra service and personality make it not so bad. My nails did chip after the first day when I got the gel :/ but went in and got them redone free of charge because of the chipping! I just have to make sure I cure the nails twice under the light for each coat instead of once. Great place read more

The nail esthetician did a nice job on my nails (although four of my nails smudged slightly on the sides within an hour of the service after one of the visits). I did have a negative experience once here (and several positive ones) where I was not greeted or offered a beverage but other customers were. I like that they use vegan, natural products and are fairly quick to respond to your queries, but I don't like how every time I'm there, the technicians are always talking about meat (despite the fact that the salon uses vegan products). I like that they don't offer harmful chemical services and are considerate of your allergies, preferences, etc. They have an urban decor and have nice, big windows, which adds to the ambiance of the salon. Overall, one of the best nail salons in the city, and I'd highly recommend them! read more

I love Spruce. The pedicures are some of the best I have ever had. Today I missed my appointment (I cancelled it) because I was stuck at work. They charged me $23 for the cancellation. I get the need for a fee, but that's steep. As a working woman, I will not make anymore appointments because they charge so much. Went to Spruce with my sister and daughter for birthday pedicures. We enjoyed a relaxing treatment, and my daughter, who had a blister on her foot, received special care to ensure she was not in pain by the work of the technician. Next time, I would ask for Sable, who helped my sister. She gave her a luxurious massage that lasted far longer than that of myself or my daughter. (review from June since they are making sure to hide my google review) if I could give a 0 out of 5 I would. I am so upset I trusted this company to do my wedding nails. My sister came from out of town & we made an appointment weeks in advance to get our nails done together at Spruce Nails. We Spoke on the phone 3-4 different times to make sure we were following protocol and doing everything correctly. We show up the day of and finish getting our nails done. The manager tries to kick my sister out of the salon and says she cannot stay for me to get my pedicure. I informed the manager that she couldn't leave because my fiancé dropped us off. She tells my sister she has to wait outside alone in a not great area of town. Because I did not feel comfortable Making my sister do so they charged me for a " canceled " appointment. They eventually refunded me for this but I am so disappointed in their customer service. Not once were we told on the phone if one finishes before the other they would have to leave first. Save your money and support businesses who care about their customers. If this were actually helping prevent COVID I would understand but they had no problem taking my sisters money and allowing her to be in the shop for her service so they should have no problem allowing her to wait for me for 45 minutes. Even the nail technician tried to help us by saying they weren't over capacity. My sister Spoke to the owner on the phone. She was extremely rude. Wonderful mani pedi done by Precious in this beautiful centrally located salon. Precious was so kind, professional and helpful with suggestions for nail colors that fit my preference and skin tone. From the moment I stepped into the salon, I was greeted warmly and treated amazingly. I love Spruce's green philosophy and especially the non-toxic polishes. Visited yesterday 5/19/16. This is my first ever professional pedicure. The salons I have peaked into in the past always have had an annoying and sometimes nauseating odor. When I walked into this shop, I felt like I walked into nail paradise. The ambience of the shop was just beyond perfect and in the ideal neighborhood. Got The Goods pedicure, which includes a foot soak, hot stone massage, and an optional sugar scrub (for a very small fee) in addition to the traditional pedicure. The price is a dream bargain! I am planning to get The Goods manicure in the very near future as well. Anyone who is looking for a nail shop that makes you feel good while doing good for the planet Earth, look no further. This place is amazing! We came here for a bachelorette party awhile back and had the whole place to ourselves. The staff was super friendly and knowledgeable about the products. Also I think I had the best manicure I've ever got for an extremely reasonable price. I really wanted to buy the polish they had but it was $20 a bottle. I loved walking into Spruce to a pleasant smell - not toxic fumes! The service was great and my nail artist was AMAZING. My friend accidentally smudged her nails twice before drying and the owner fixed them both times with no qualms! I wasn't sure how long my manicure would last since I'd never used any of their polishes, but I went a solid week or so with not a single chip (I'm usually peeling off the paint by day 4). Hands down the best manicure I've ever had and the cleanest/most sanitary salon I've ever been to! I feel like Spruce has the best quality manicure at a really good price and I can't see myself going to a regular nail salon again after finding this place. My family friend, Jessica, had an appointment here on 11/30/17. The day of her appointment, her grandmother unexpectedly passed away and she had to travel to Dayton, OH to be with family. As if that wasn't enough for her to emotionally deal with, Spruce REFUSED to be sympathetic and accommodate her. They still charged her card for the service that she didn't receive! No refund offered and no chance to reschedule. What kind of insensitive company doesn't offer sympathy and understanding towards the death of a family member? This company is greedy and obviously is not on the business of repeat customers if this is how they intend to continue their business practices. What a shame. I hope the owners of this company never experience the loss of family member and the "inconvenience" that it causes, because obviously they don't have the emotional capacity to understand grief and basic human empathy. read more
