I like this place because its walking distance from my house :) I guess in the past people have had bad experiences with customer service but they've always been pleasant when I come in. If you're trying to make a large order, DO NOT USE THIS LOCATION. A warning to all. Made a very specific order for my wedding a more than a month in advance. Girl taking the order took all of my information including card information. She said the owner would call, but the ORDER WAS CONFIRMED AND WOULD BE READY DAY OF. Never got a call back, so my partner called to confirm. Same girl CONFIRMED THE ORDER, saying she had it all written down on an order form AND EVEN STATED SHE KNEW WHICH ORDER HE WAS REFERRING TO SINCE IT WAS SO SPECIFIC. Who wouldn't remember 75 BOSTON CREAM and 75 CHOCOLATE CAKE DONUTS?! AGAIN, VERY SPECIFIC. She said the owner would call BUT THAT THE ORDER WAS CONFIRMED AND WE'RE GOOD TO GO. A day before, was feeling weird that the order was confirmed but owner never called. Left a voicemail, no call back. Obviously, things get hectic the few days before the wedding so I was not able to call multiple times. The morning of the wedding, guess what?! They don't have my order. They don't even say they remember the order EVEN THOUGH IT WAS CONFIRMED TWICE PRIOR. Girl isn't even apologetic about it. We were craving some late night sweets after dinner and saw this location on Yelp. It looked promising and we were excited to have ice cream also! I saw that they had donut holes and cinnamon version ones. It was $2.50 for a dozen. So instead I got a dozen of the cinnamon ones hoping it would taste like cinnabons one they server at taco bell. Man, very disappointed. The donut holes were very dry and stale! The cinnamon ones lacked cinnamon and tasted nothing like it. My girlfriend had croissant and ice cream. I don't like to write bad reviews, but seeing as I use this app for recommendations, I figured it'd try to save you the trouble. This place might be good for donuts, but the breakfast and service is bad. I ordered a croissant breakfast and it was brunt. When I told the attendant but she said thats the way they come and if she remade it, I'd get the same thing. I figured I'd roll with it and pick off the burnt pieces as much as possible. By the time I took most of the burned pieces off- couldn't get it all- half the croissant was gone and the rest was barely holding together. I tried two bites and finally gave up. I told the attendant I wanted my money back since it wasn't edible. She said you already took some bites. I showed her the package full of ruined bread and black pieces and she didn't so much as say sorry that your breakfast is ruined. She refused to give me my $8.50+ back but finally reluctantly and very unpleasantly handed me a $5 bill. Save yourself the trouble and just go next door to Starbucks. At least their breakfast sandwiches are good, never burnt, and they are much nicer. Just my two cents. read more

I remembered seeing a Spudnuts featured on some televised food show. So, when I noticed that Spudnuts was voted #1 donut shop in Santa Barbara, I simply had to drop by for a taste of these unique donuts. Basically, what makes spudnuts different than 'regular' donuts is their use of potato flour. The result is a slightly different taste, texture, and flavor. It's pretty subtle, though. I found the spudnuts to be lighter and even a bit less greasy than average donuts. Besides your standard donuts (glazed, old-fashioned, cake, bearclaws, apple fritters, etc.), one of the varieties that stood out in the glass case was the oddly-shaped donut holes. At a hefty fifty cents a piece, I figured these had to be the best donut holes around. Actually, these donut holes were custard-filled. If you like custard, you might like these. I thought they were just okay. If you like donuts, this place is probably worth a try (mostly so you can say that you've at least tried a Spudnuts brand donut). Otherwise, they subtle differences in these donuts likely won't be noticed by most. The simple saving grace of this place is that they're open 24/7. How can you not appreciate that? read more

I woke up early on my last day in Santa Barbara for a weekend getaway and was absolutely famished. I wasn't looking for a full on breakfast since I was planning to have a late brunch with some friends before we headed back to LA. Found Spudnuts and was already intrigued by the name. Upon entering the doughnut shop I noticed that it seemed a bit run down, and tables/floors needed to be cleaned. Didn't matter, I was on a hunt for a early morning bite and coffee. Coffee was mediocre but I did like that they had a variety of coffee options for you to pick from. The ratings for this spot is definitely for it's doughnuts. I had the MAPLE BAR. I die. Super delicious and satisfying. I wish I could give the spot a higher rating but I am a bit on the OCD side which would require a bit more cleanliness. I'd come back again for their doughnuts. The 2 stars are for being 24 hour and having donuts (I really love donuts). I've had a couple really bad experiences there that weren't entirely their fault, but they didn't help the situation at all. I left a paycheck here by accident (I know, retarded) one night; I was the only one there, and I went by the next morning to ask about it. The guy working there, with whom I have conversed with effortlessly prior to this, listened to my 3-5 sentence rant (OMG IM FREAKING OUT HAVE YOU FOUND A PAYCHECK BLA BLA) and just responded with a heavily accented "we don't take checks, cash or card only". I stood there gaping like "oh nuh uh you did not just pretend to be so foreign you couldn't understand me". I stopped the check and got a new one issued, but it turned out later that the original one had been cashed at a car lot! God, what a frustrating week. Another time I went in and ordered a dozen donuts and... I don't know what the deal was. Maybe they had different donuts facing the customer than the ones facing the clerks? I got about 7 just wrong donuts and 5 that were the right flavor but looked smashed or mutilated, like they gave me the ugly ones to get them off the shelf. I was sad =( read more

Donuts: good! Everything else we tried was downright terrible. We stopped here on a Sunday night around 10pm before driving up to the Bay Area, figuring somewhere with coffee, donuts and sandwiches was the perfect place to fuel up. In theory it would have been great. The sausage, egg and cheese sandwiches we got were slathered in mayonnaise. I've never seen that on a breakfast sandwich, and it frankly ruined them. We each only managed to eat half of our sandwiches. It didn't set well at all with either of us, unfortunate before a long drive. The iced coffee was just bad, tasting old and just low quality. I went to UCSB, and ventured downtown pretty frequently. As Spudnuts is en route to the 101 exit, I'd go by here pretty often and think: "Spudnuts? Donuts made out of potatoes? Not so sure about that." Then finally, when I was nearing graduation, I stopped in and had ONE OF THE BEST DONUTS OF MY LIFE. Seriously. And then, I didn't have a chance to return. So for the next (mumble mumble mumble) years, I've daydreamed about these donuts and kicked myself for only having gone in once. And of course, trying to explain why they're so drool-worthy to others. FINALLY make it back down to SB after (mumble mumble mumble) years, and Spudnuts was on the agenda. Again... stopped in on the way back to 101. It was mid-afternoon, and surprisingly, they still had a decent selection of donuts. I tried donut holes (awesome), old fashioned (not that bad), glazed raised (of course, awesome), and their version of the cronut. That last item -- it wasn't the best thing I've ever had... it was OK. I would definitely skip that next time. Wish they had a glazed jelly while I was there, but they didn't. So the donuts of the glazed-raised variety (including the donut holes) were just as good as I'd remembered. I'd stick with those if I ever came by again. Oh good Lord, this by far is THE best donut spot I have EVER been to and it was a fantastic treat to start off my bachelorette weekend. We arrived in SB about 730a and decided to have breakfast here: I had their Ham, Egg & Cheese Croissant (eggs were super duper fluffy, croissant was super duper buttery), Oreo Smoothie w/ Boba (perfectly sweetened, boba balls were soft and perfectly chewy) and had a Custard-filled Choc don't (yuuuuuuummmyyyyyy!!!) & a Chocolate Cream Cronut (oh-em-gee more so yuuuuuuummmyyyyyy!!!). My cousin had kept talking to me about "cronuts" and then all of a sudden I started hearing about them so I was really happy that my first experience (since I had expected a whole lot) was tastegasmic. My taste buds were in heaven doing the happy dance. Customer service was top notch- it was a wife & husband tag-team, even at 730a with a long line of people waiting to get their tastegasms on, they were such a ray of sunshine in the cold foggy SB weather. Prices are a little on the pricier side in comparison to SD donut shoppes, but definitely is worth the money. This would be my first stop if I ever came back to SB. I heard about this place because the Santa Barbara Independent named them "Best Donut 2013." Since I've lately been on a kick to try the best donuts wherever I travel, I had to give them a try. The first thing that surprised me about this place was its ambiance, or lack thereof. This place is your typical looking 24 hour donut shop. But who cares about appearances as long as the donuts are good. Were they? You can't beat a fresh, hot donut. I arrived at 9am on a Sunday and was sad to be told there were none still warm. Based off of the other Yelp reviews I ordered the Apple Fritter ($2), the Glazed Twist ($1) and a Chocolate Cake Donut with Sprinkles (.90 cents). The Verdict: the Apple Fritter was the standout among the 3 I tried. It was buttery, fried and generously glazed. While eating it I thought it would be a delicious dessert if you warned it in the microwave and topped it with some ice-cream. The Glazed Twist and Chocolate Cake was standard. I didn't notice anything different or special from other typical donuts I've had, despite their use of potato flour. They're open 24 hours, so if you have a craving for donuts at anytime of the day, you can get your fix here. But don't expect anything worth making a special trip for. read more

Great location in downtown Santa Barbara. It's just two blocks away from State St. Open 24 hours, for those late night cravings, whether it may be for something sweet like a donut or a sandwich on a croissant or bagel (super huge and flakey croissants). The donuts are fresh and light to the taste. The custard filled cream puffs with a touch of glaze are super tasty when you want to fulfill that sweet tooth craving. The french cruellers are delicious and regular glazed are light and fluffy. They also have tons of sandwich options made to order. The breakfast sandwiches on fresh bagels are very good. Quality donuts. Between two people we got a handful of donut holes, a crumb cinnamon roll, a maple-glazed sprinkle cake, a glazed cronut, and an apple fritter. They were all quite good and fresh. I enjoy the fresh donuts, when I visit by 10am, otherwise its ehhh....Some days are so hit and miss here but their donuts are unique in that they do utilize potato flour, hence the name, Spudnuts. Try the bear claws here because they are ORGASMIC!!! I also recommend any jelly filled pastry because for years I have always had good luck with them here. The fact that they have something for everyone is a plus; from boba tea, ice cream, to breakfast sandwiches & subs as well. Even the donut holes were just inedible. We got a little of everything: cinnamon roll, cronut, chocolate old-fashion, blueberry cake donut & those evil little donut holes. I've been going to this donut shop since it opened when I was a kid. I now live two blocks away, and an intense exertion of willpower is required to resist going over here on a daily basis. As it is, I get donuts once or twice a month. They are some mighty tasty donuts. I'm the type of guy who prefers the denser, cake-style donuts over the raised style, and Spudnuts delivers admirably. They also have really good cinnamon rolls. I won't comment on their coffee or sandwiches or any of that, since I never eat that stuff. It's all about the donuts. Probably one of my favorite places to eat a sandwich or get a donut. Every time I come the always have great display and the smell of fresh coffee. Personally, I always get the ham egg and cheese croissant sandwich & it always comes out so warm and melted, it is so tasty! .However, compared to the pastry's the boba drinks and smoothies are okay. They a don't have everything that is on their menu which isn't a minor issue but just something to keep in mind If your coming specifically for the boba.
