For a couple of years I ignored Sputnik because the pretentious hipster vibe was pretty thick. I decided to get over my issue and try it out in earnest a month or two ago,I've enjoyed it, I stop by for breakfast. This morning I walk into Sputnik at about 10:40 I stand at the empty bar waiting for service for about 3 minutes. A person who had been sitting and smoking outside of the restaurant comes into the restaurant and I realize this is the opening bartender. This person looks directly at me standing there says not a word and goes back outside. When she returns she again looks at me still without addressing me I finally ask "am i early do you open at 11 a.m. ?" She responds dryly "No". Silence and then she says without looking me in the face," we're not corporate " ,to which I respond "I'm not sure what that means" and she then says "that means I can open whenever I want". it must also mean Sputnik gets to be rude to you whenever they want for absolutely no reason, thanks Sputnik, my daughter and I went elsewhere, you rock. read more

This place really needs to Fuck right off the planet! OI! Whoever it is that runs this joint: There is a place in Chicago called "Ed Debevic's". In this place it is expected that the staff will be rude, people come to be treated this way on purpose. They do it because it's NOT REAL. It is a farce, a gag and coincidentally a Gas. These people are not only food service people, they are Actors. It's for fun! This is not the case at this establishment. It is NOT fun or funny. Word to the wise: Stop hiring your goddamn friends to work your place and hire people who work well WITH people. Your hipster friends, can only deal with hipsters. wow this place is filled with trust fund hipsters. The bartenders were very attentive with the exception of us non-hipsters that stopped in for a few drinks on Sunday night. Food was kind of bad, almost thought I had food poisoning, I think the whiskey killed any bad bacteria that was in the food I had. Probably won't be back unless my granola friends from Austin come and visit. They would appreciate the South by Southwest hipster crowd. I guess I am not as much of a hipster as I thought. I don't really enjoy this place.. The service SUCKS, the drinks are weak and the music is terrible at least on Sunday nights. Here's a word of advice: A true hipster will be offended if you call them out on being a hipster, and they will try to deny it. This unassuming grub hole/bar has surprisingly great food. Walking through the door, the music is loud, there is not host, and the bar is full of hipsters. Don't let this disturb you. Find a seat, order some grub (they have really great vegan and vegetarian options), and prepare to enjoy your meal. read more

Now owned by the dynamic duo husband-wife team, Kerry and Jeannie, it seems the establishment is finally finding a true identity. The music they've got going regularly, both local and touring in all genres, shows they've definitely got an ear for terrific talent. They've become a regular venue for local nonprofit and fundraising events in an effort to pay it forward. They've an awesome biweekly Yoga Mayhem concept, stretching the music venue boundaries. And, of course, there's football screens every Sunday!! All and all, this venue isn't just a neighborhood corner bar but a community-building legacy in the making that the northern part of what becomes South Broadway has needed. It's been absolutely wonderful watching this iteration of the landmark building grow! I met Kerry in 2021, just as he had signed the lease for 404 and sold out his share of his previous partnership. He had big plans for the place, expanding the stage and building in the garage door that the previous owner had always wanted. With his wife as his partner and son behind the bar most days, you're supporting everything that is small business and family owned, family operated by being a patron. I can't think of a better, more invested family to support! After having known them socially for a while, as well as having musician friends that had worked with them, I reached out to them as I began thinking of a Christmas season series of popups for my live art production company. I had two events with them and my team. They were everything that is great to work with, with a staff that's beyond engaged and helpful. I can't recommend them more for anyone looking to have an event of any size! The first floor is divided into three sections: the main one where the bar is located, second one is with some pool tables and the third one has a foosball machine.
