I was sitting in the back corner of the room, the booth behind me had just vacated and the dishes had not yet been cleared. 2 women approached and I heard one wonder out loud to the other if they could sit there. I turned and let them know that the people had just left, so if they just scooted the dishes to the edge, I'm sure it was fine to sit. (and this was when I gestured in a "scoot the dishes forward" movement) At this time, a man (Brian, we now know) walked up and used the edge of his hand and smacked my arm down in a chopping motion. My partner notified the "door dude" and he immediately asked Brian to leave. Brain commented over his shoulder "oh, sorry if I offended you" to which I replied " you didn't offend me, you hit me" He then stood outside flipping off the place for a while before leaving. Went to the Owl Saloon on Saturday night. It was busy. We found a table, a booth in the corner. A woman from the adjacent table was gesturing and pointing to something on our table when my wife sat down. The woman kept gesturing and pointing at the table, then at my wife. I read my wife instantly. She felt threatened. Confirmed later. I felt the need to protect my wife. I walked in front of crazy -gesture - pointy lady blocking her gesturing and pointing and sat down. My back was to her and I never made eye contact nor did I say a word. A few moments later the door dude came to our table and told me to leave. I asked why. He said I laid hands on the woman. I asked if he wanted to hear my side of the story. He said no. We left and we left our drinks. Weird redneck good ol boy vibes. Avoid this toxic place. Go somewhere else. So many welcoming and inclusive bars on East Colfax. Gesture lady clearly the regular as I think back. As we left, a guy at her table waved "bye bye" and laughed with gesture lady. I was harassed by Gabby, the karaoke host here. On prior occasions, they have grabbed my body w/o my consent. If you are trans, do not come to this bar! We have attempted to report the harassment and the only responses from the bar we have gotten are mad-libs style form letters. I reported it the night it happened to the bar staff. They told me I would hear a response on the progress the next day. I did not hear a response. I emailed the owner of the bar and did not hear a response. My friend, Taylor, did the work to write a review online so I wouldn't have to deal with this. The bar responded to this public review, NOT my email. I contacted them with the email they provided in this response. They sent me a form letter from their HR department and failed to even address the letter to the correct person. They told me they would "conduct interviews" to appropriately determine the corrective action for the staff. I told them I was happy to come in for an interview, because my perspective of the night is essential, as the person who their staff accosted. They have not responded for more than a week. This leads me to believe they have no intention of hearing the events of the night from the person their staff harassed, only from the person who did the harassment. The lack of initial response when I first reported it to bar staff, the fact that the only way we were able to get a response was by publicly complaining on google, the fact that they have exclusively communicated with us through canned form responses, the fact that they have made absolutely no effort to involve me in this process or update me in any way, and the fact they they have deleted the previous poor review all make it clear to me that the owners of this bar don't take harassment of their trans guests seriously and have no intention of resolving this. read more

This is a nice, clean neighborhood bar with a well-earned reputation for great bar food, especially their pizza. The bartenders are friendly, they offer a wide selection of beers on tap, bottle or even can. Good selection of Irish Whiskeys. It's comfortable, lots of seating, back patio on wooden platform and narrow front outdoor patio right on Colfax Avenue. Reasonable prices, Internet juke box and more. I love this place. The food is good, the drinks are great and karaoke is the best! Gabby is amazing! I won't give this place a bad review because of the super rude and just plain awful doorman. Completely unacceptable!! We've been coming here for 4 years since we moved to Denver. So many great things about the owl. There are also a couple of newer bartenders that are rude as well. Hopefully you guys listen to those other reviews about the horribly rude employees. We bring people to this bar all the time and they get such a bad first impression just right out of the door because of the doorman. I've been going to the owl for quite a few years. Tonight for some reason the bartender refused to serve me. I had the same drink since 5:30pm and at 8pm I asked for another drink. They said they weren't allowed to serve me because I accidently took someone's jean jacket. Something about how I smoked some weed before I came in but people do coke in the bathroom there. I was looking for a cool bar near me, and this place caught my attention because I'm obsessed with owls lol. I was happy to see a bunch of owls when I walked in, but besides that.. I really dig the vibe at this bar! The bartender was SUPER nice and also informed me that they have karaoke on Fridays which I thought was cool cause I LOVE to sing. We've been in the neighborhood for a while now and finally got around to trying this place, that has repeatedly been recommended by fellow neighbors. They have an interesting menu with several yummy looking appetizers, salads etc., and lots of interesting tater tots to choose from. We started with a drink from their vast selection of liquors, and moved on to the Thai Ginger Tots. Those were so addicting! Crispy flavorful tots with interesting seasonings. I could have, and should have stopped there but we moved on to a build your own pizza which was really great, especially for a place that isn't known as being a pizza place. Their sauce is really flavorful and the crust was perhaps a little too crispy for me, but really tasty all the same. The pepperoni was crispy around the edges and I could have easily eaten the whole pizza but somehow managed to share. David, the bar tender was a great guy and fun to talk to. We also met the kitchen manager who was proud to tell us that her pizza had recently won an award. I'd be proud too! We'll be back! read more

Meatball sub wasn't bad, it was a little too simple. I was surprised to see it arrive deconstructed, but I guess it makes sense to keep the bread from getting soggy on the trip. Oh hey. Do you know where you can get buffalo tater tots with a side of karaoke? Poutine tots and occasional live music, eh? Green chile tots and a jukebox? Thai Ginger tots, truffle tots, loaded tots? (Is it obvious that I like tater tots yet?) All of these flavors used to be something I enjoyed at the Horseshoe, but then I moved and had kids and stopped eating tater tots at bars at midnight. But, then! Then the Horseshoe got a sister bar and put it on East Colfax and brought their tater tots my way where I can eat them at a 7 pm dinner on a date night with my husband like a grown ass woman. And now my tater tot love affair has been renewed and I like it. Plus, Sir Nicholas likes that he can casually belt out a Prince song at karaoke. It's a win-win-win really. read more
