How they stay in business is a mystery. Food is horrible and just not restaurant quality

Food and service was great my son doesn't like buffet food but he loves the food from there and he's 44 years old.

3 stars might be generous but the location is in the cute little downtown square so it had a hometown small restaurant feel which I liked. The server we had was not very friendly, the soda machine was broken and then the food took quite a while to come out once ordered. The breakfast food itself was not very good. The day we went they had meatloaf and a battered pork chop that was good but would have been better if it was hot. The homemade mashed potatoes were really good and the flat green beans were tasty as well. They had chicken dressing that day which I didn't care for but my husband loved it. The gravy was good. They had corn on the cob and collard greens which I didn't try. The rolls were really good and soft. I would have preferred real butter or apple butter instead of the margarine. For dessert there was banana pudding and chocolate pudding. No pie which was a little disappointing. The sweet tea was good and we got a refill to go. It is cafeteria style and you can go through the line twice. We were traveling through but if we lived close by we would probably try it again. The price was $16 each and that included tax. Drove from Hampshire to hear on Saturday after thanksgiving. Website says they're open. Got here and they're closed till Monday. How can a restaurant survive if you're closed on the weekends. Sad!!!! read more

Pretty good food is buffet style, waiters barely have to lift a finger the service is that good. The ambiance is like a western saloon.

Great little joint to grab some breakfast with family. Serve an amazing southern biscuits and gravy. Honestly the food was all good you can't go wrong. They were short staffed when we went, but instead of closing they just opened a buffet. I wish more places were as inventive. The decor is a bit kooky and I loved it! Yesterday was our first time there, they were understand staffed so it took awhile to get our food but the waitress was friendly and on top of everything. This is a lovely little place, but if you're looking for a Zegat's "4-star-restaurant" this AIN'T it! It's a quaint little eatery in a quaint little town. Everything about it is nice. The food, wait-staff, ambiance, surrounding area... all nice. Not great, not fantastic... just... nice. This isn't Manhattan, it's Lawrenceburg... and the Square-Forty fits it just fine. Had high hopes based on reviews but sigh oh well Tried to find a clean table. 4th one was the least dirty Told server about it but no response. She brought our coffee and asked for our order so we inquired about cleaning the table again. Begrudgingly she went and brought back a dry towel and halfway wiped it sending crumbs into my wife's lap. I asked her if she would eat on a dirty table. She replied some people do then asked if it was clean enough. On Tues., Feb 3rd, my hubby Tony, daughter Noel and I was checking out the historical section of town. The town square and some of the antiques stores. We were hungry and it was lunchtime. Everyone seemed to be going into this restaurant, it was around 12:30pm ...so I grabbed the handle and in we went.... The restaurant is located near one of the corners of the square. It is a large old store from the size of it and the upstairs area, I would say it was an old department store of some sort..I would love to know the history of this lovely old building. We seated ourselves near the back rear area. So I could get a great view of the restaurant. The waitress was really quick to get our drink orders and introduce herself. We all three ordered SWEET TEA...sorry Tony, no alcohol in this restaurant. She asked us if we would like the buffet but we opted to order off the menu. I ordered a cheeseburger with lettuce tomato, onion and lettuce with french fries, Noel went with a mushroom burger and tater tots and Tony opted for a philly cheese steak sandwich with tator tots...You are NOT GOING TO BELIEVE the prices...I paid $17.50 for all three meals. The food was good, not amazing but good! The prices were excellent!! The inside was amazing to me because I was interested in the history of the store..and the waitress was so friendly. I gave her a $5 tip. I told the man at the register. $17.50 with taxes can't be beat..even Mickey D's is not that cheap...We will definitely eat here again !! I highly recommend to anyone in the area, step back into time and enjoy a great burger at cheaper than McDonald's prices. read more

Came here for the first time on a Sunday morning. My first impression was not so great. The place was packed, and it was extremely loud. The hard sticky floors made the screaming children almost unbearable. At a first glance, the menu prices were very reasonable for the amount of food you received. The waitress was very pleasant despite the fact that she was clearly overwhelmed with how busy she was. We received our drinks it a timely manner. My husband ordered the Philly cheese steak omlet with a side of hash browns. I ordered the steak (cooked medium) and eggs (over easy) that came with gravy, and choice of grits or biscuts. Observing other guests around us, I noticed nobody around was eating. I knew we would be waiting a good while for our food. Half an hour later, people around us started receiving food. I guessed another half hour before my husband and I received food. Our waitress came over to refill our drinks and give us our check. I knew something was off when she said "did you want a drink to go?" She forgot our order. When my husband asked on how long our food would be, as guests that came in after us were already eating, she was so flustered that we didn't get our food yet. Five minutes later we received our food. My husband enjoyed the taste of his food. He claims the omlet wasn't the worst he ever had but definitely was not the best. I was extremely disappointed. I received my steak, eggs, hash browns, a biscuit, a pancake I didn't order, and no gravy. First thing I noticed was the soggy hash browns. Then I cut into my steak and noticed it was clearly well done. It was the toughest piece of meat I ever cut. I taste the hash browns and the definitely lacked flavor. My husband flags the waitress down and I explain that my steak was well done when I ordered medium. She was very apologetic and said she would get it taken care of right away. After the hash browns, I cut into my eggs. I taste the eggs and they were stone cold. I look closer and the whites were still runny. For those of you that know, eggs over easy should have the runny yolk, but the whites are fully cooked. I don't eat my eggs, obviously. I then move to my biscuts as I wait on my steak to return. The bottom was almost burnt and rock solid, however the top was decent. It reminded me of salty buttered biscut from Hardee's. The waitress returns with a new steak. It was 40% solid fat. I trim the fat off and cut into it. It was a medium well, but I was not going to wait another 15 minutes for a different steak. I take my first bite and instantly know it's a frozen steak. The taste is freezer burnt, it's stringy, and very tough. After spending nearly 2 hours at this place, my husband and I are ready to leave.Our waitress received a fair tip for doing the best she could with what she was dealing with. The food here is not even mediocre, the service is decent, the kitchen and staff are EXTREMELY unorganized, and you definitely get what you pay for with the food. I will never be going back here again. I wouldn't even advise my worst enemy to come here. Gordon Ramsey needs to come here and show these people how to run a diner with food worth serving to the public. If you value your health, and the health of your family, never come here! read more

Came here after a morning of antiquing. All of the stores we went in recommended this place so we decided to try it. Sooooo glad we did. Freaking delish! $9 for a buffet and you can go back as many times as you want? Yes please! Chicken and dumplings to die for. Cooked casbahs was seasoned perfect as were the green beans. Fried chicken smelled fantastic. Don't for get desert. Homemade cheesecake, pound cake and banana pudding. And service with a southern twang and a smile!! Welcome to the place where COVID doesn't exist. It's seat yourself and the tables are right on top of each other. They have a buffet, no one is wearing masks, and my waitress was talking literally 1 foot from my face. Buffets with covid make me nervous so we ordered off of the menu. We were meeting my Mom & Dad, who were driving up from Russellville, AL for lunch Sunday (Father's Day). It was busy at 12:30 pm but the line moved smoothly. We traveled to this town from MARIETTA Ga for a rabbit show and came across this little gem. Everything about it is what you would expect. Everyone knew everyone - it was a community gathering place. Our waitress was so kind. We had breakfast- everything tasted so fresh the bacon was a specialty cut bacon the eggs tasted like they just pulled them from the hen that laid them and the biscuit was so flaky and just melted in your mouth. Since it's located at the square there are plenty of shops and antiquing to be had. This is a wonderful way to spend a day winding down and relaxing. Stopped in for breakfast and sat for 20 minutes without ever being acknowledged.It was a little busy but not to the point that someone should not have realized that we were sitting there and had not been waited on.While sitting there other customers came in and were immediately taken care of. There is total lack of organization and no one seems to care. I ate at Square-Forty for the first time today and it was amazing! I ordered a buffalo grilled chicken sandwich with onion rings. The buffalo sauce had the perfect amount of flavor and spice, the chicken was grilled to perfection, and the sandwich was topped off with fresh lettuce and tomato with a warm bun. Though they were not hand-battered, the onion rings tasted like they fell from heaven! I will definitely eat here again in the future. read more

Have to say this was not bad the food was good I had a cheese burger with fires. I do wish they made there own hand cut fires they would be so much better. The Restaurant has a lot of character but needs a little cleaning and more color. I gave them 4 stars I'm being nice, I would have gave them 5 stars if they would watch a few shows of restaurant impossible and learn some of what he does with food and the inside of a restaurant. I'm not saying gut the place just clean it and add a lot more color and don't flatten the burger buns with your hand lol. The pork tenderloin fro breakfast is the best I've had. the artwork inside is the true meaning of "eclectic" as photos of Marilyn Monroe share wall space with local paintings of flowers. this is as good as it gets! from the fluffy eggs any way you want them (and i do mean any way!! you want grilled onions and cheese added to the scramble? it can be done) want more than two eggs no problem. want the bacon extra well done, no big deal. do you want it to take out when you leave, to take home to your wife for her to have breakfast in bed? it will be ready and hot youhave finished yours and are ready to leave!!! you are well know here and regular orders are remembered when we moved here,the only things i missed were our "boston market, our chicago pizza place, our steak house, etc. but the square fourty has taken the place of many of them. but the town and area are amazing. read more
