Our group of 4 had a tremendous experience at Square with the owner Brad. After introducing ourselves and realizing our common bonds from the past, he treated us to a 4 WD ride to the top of the vineyard with amazing views. We then were treated to a fabulous tasting of Brad's pinots and other varietals, all in the presence of Brad's wife Alana's truly special original oils and sculptures. What an amazing experience! I have been to many Napa, Sonoma, Calistoga wineries and this stood out as "special". A family operation with ALL the character and charm. I haven't been here for at least 6 months but I think Alex was our wonderful guide. Writing this review because I just finished a Zin I brought home from here and it was so fantastic. Albeit their wine price is above our average wine spend but for the more high end category it's above average for taste. I think their wine is elegant yet flavorful like a well made wine with condensed grapes should be. I really enjoyed the Zin from 2022 in particular. Six of us visited Square Peg Winery and had the best time! We had no idea the tasting room would be an art gallery as well. So lovely! Alex gave us an education about dry growing wine grapes and was a delight throughout the entire experience. The wine itself was excellent and the ambience friendly and relaxed.We watched hummingbirds sip from blooms just outside the generous windows as we sipped. I highly recommend. read more

Great hidden find of a winery off the beaten path on our way to Occidental. You have to make a reservation ahead of time so listen to all the 5 star reviews and do so. Alex guided us through the tasting where we first got a tour of the art gallery where his mom's art work was displayed. We thoroughly enjoyed our tasting of 5 wines starting with a Chardonnay and ending in a Zinfandel. The tasting is $50 which is waived if you buy two bottles. We ended up buying more than 2 bottles each between my wife and I. We especially loved the canned sparkling rose which was an added taste from Alex. We bought 6 cans of those. We will definitely return the next time we are in the area. read more

What an incredible experience at Square Peg last week! My wife and I visited on a recommendation and we fell in love with this place! Brad was an amazing host, first taking us around the property and telling us all about the history of the winery and vineyard. When I thought it couldn't get any better we went to the tasting room, which was full of beautiful pieces of art. The wine was fantastic and I could hear the passion and love for wine as Brad answered our questions and guided us through the tasting. I've been here a couple times but the first time I got to meet the owner Brad Brad took us in his Can-Am around the vineyards to show off the 360° view which is spectacular! And I live here!! We started off with an amazing Chardonnay I have to say I've never had a Chardonnay made this style!!! And it's my new favorite Chardonnay. I'm wor of a red wine drinker but this got me to try other Chardonnays just amazing followed by a couple amazing Pinot noir's and a couple old vine Zinfandel's I don't want to give away too much (Have to leave a little something for your imagination. Definitely the best experience I've had in 2022 I feel guilty not buying anything but I have so much wine at home I would never be able to drink it in a lifetime! I am super excited to start bringing guests here again now that the pandemic is back to a normal pace!!?? read more

Words fail to express just how unbelievably special this place is. Very private, small estate, family owned vineyard. Brad, the owner, took his time, gave us thorough explanations of everything that goes into creating his beautiful and delicious wines. He explained what it means to dry farm the grapevines (no outside irrigation) and even explained about the grafting process. I learned so much in the 2-3 hours we spent here. Our group thoroughly enjoyed the private tasting experience. The tasting room is beautifully decorated with Brad's wife's artwork (she does metal sculpting and the detail is AMAZING). We did not feel rushed at all, and came away with a head full of wine knowledge and a trunk full of wine. Oh, and be sure you listen to Brad's recommendations about where to stop off on your travels for bread, cheese and places to eat....this guy really knows his stuff! read more

My uncle can't stop talking about his experience at Square Peg! He tells me "Alex is a real cool dude!" True. You see, my uncle has a host of medical, physical, and mental challenges. It's not easy to take him anywhere. I tried the free vineyards, but people stare and comment. We now only go to nice places, off the beaten path. It was lucky we found Square Peg! (His favorite, frogs leap, was closed) So now he has a new favorite! Alex was SO nice to him! Instead of retreating into his shell, my uncle felt comfortable opening up. Mad dog 2020... old girlfriends... Miami brawls... it ran the gamut! Based on service alone, 5 Stars. The wine was great too! We tried a rosé, 2016 and 2017 Zinfandel, and 2016 and 2017 Pinot noir. My favorite was the 2017 Pinot. I hope they expand the property and include some benches or tables outside, as we would have liked to walk a little bit and enjoy a bit more wine! Nevertheless, it was truly a special time and highly recommend the place! read more

Great Pinot noirs here! Me, my friend, and husband visited this winery on a beautiful day! The property is absolutely beautiful and peaceful. We made reservations ahead of time and was seated inside the tasting room which was also an art gallery featuring one of the owner's paintings and work. You get views of the vineyard from the tasting room which is great. There was even a bunny running around outside. Our wine expert guided us through a tasting which consisted of Chardonnay and Pinot noirs. We loved the Pinot noirs and went home with plenty of bottles :) You can make a tasting reservation through their website. Highly recommended! read more

Fantastic Pinot and Chardonnay! I've not been to the winery, but I've had two of their wines. The Chardonnay is viscous fresh and lively with a bit of creamy ness, and fantastic balance of ripe fruit, acid and minerals. The Pinot has a lovely wafting bouquet that's of violets, exotic sweeter spices and ripe red Anna black fruits. In the mouth it's smooth with wonderful velvety flavors of all the fruit and touches of spices, cola, sassafras, and a long lingering smooth ethereal finish. Both wines are reminiscent of fine French Burgundy. Highly recommended. read more

One of our holiday highlights was a wine tasting at Square Peg. We had friends from out of town who wanted a private wine tasting experience at a small local winery and this was the perfect venue for it. The location is beautiful and the tasting room was decorated with incredible art done by the owners. Most importantly, the wine was exquisite and Brad, the owner, was incredibly warm and welcoming. We learned so much about wine making and was heartened to hear about his environmentally friendly and ethical practice. A hidden gem of a winery. What a fantastic location, in the hills of sebastopol, away from the traditional Sonoma/Napa spots and a very pleasant drive. Square peg has a lovely tasting room and outside area under the 100y old olive tree. It is family owned and Alex (the son of the the owner) was extremely knowledgeable about his wines, funny, and the nicest host you can imagine, it's such a difference from big commercial places, you feel part of the family ! Doesn't hurt that all their wines are excellent and will surprise you in a pleasant way, plan on leaving with a case ! Even the Rosé which usually isn't my kind of wine was amazing ! I'm hesitant to write a review because I kind of want to keep this place to myself. I mean - it's a small estate vineyard and I don't want him to run out of wine for me. Totally selfish.. BUT - I have to share what was the best tasting experience I've EVER had - that includes Napa, Sonoma, Eldorado and Willamette Valley. We came here on recommendation of our driver (who was also fantastic - separate review.) We spent a few hours with the owner, Brad, which started out in the vineyard learning about soil, dry-farming, grapes, grafting vines, etc. It was so informative and interesting! Then, we came into the tasting room which is thoughtfully decorated with AMAZING artwork by his wife (sorry - can't find her name.) He took so much time to talk through each wine, get to know us and recommend things we might enjoy. The wines - every single one of them - were fantastic. I didn't find a single one that I didn't like. As a matter of fact, I took home quite a few bottles and also joined the club. I was very impressed and look forward to coming back here soon as well as getting my shipments. read more

Brad was the consummate host. After describing how Square Peg got started, we went out into the vineyard where he showed us the trellising and grafting techniques they use. In addition, Brad explained the growth of mustard and radishes between the rows of vines. Then to the good stuff. The tastings were generous and excellent. We left with a case of wine and I wish I had bought more. BTW, I was surprised how much I liked the Rose'. Brad's wife's art adorns the small tasting room and is fantastic. Once you arrive at this beautiful spot you'll be treated to a walk through the vineyard and a sit down tasting of their delicious and well balanced Rose, Pinot and Zinfandel, made by one of the wine industry's Titans. I highly recommend making an appointment to visit Square Peg Winery. All the wines are true expression of their terroir. This area is ground zero for Pinot Noir and the grapes form the surrounding vineyards are used by the pinot "A" listers. We arrived around 4pm and Brad (owner) welcomed us into his tasting room with a beautiful Chardonnay. With wine in hand he took us on a tour of his vineyards and told us about the history of the area and vines. It was a perfect time to visit as you could see the fog off in the distance and felt the cool breeze from the ocean on your face. I can see why the grape are so happy here. A big surprise is within the pinot and chard is a section of old vine zinfandel. We headed back to the tasting room for some outstanding Pinot. Brad poured both of his Block 1 and Block 8 Pinots and both where delicious. I couldn't make up my mind which I liked better. I'll leave that up you to decide. We finished off the tasting with Brad's Zinfandels (Ottimino), and he surprised us with a taste of an older vintage on Zin that blew me away. We came out on a whim and called ahead to see if they had any openings. They were so accommodating and squeezed us in fifteen minutes later. The facility was beautiful. We walked through gorgeous glass doors into an inviting room. All the artwork adorning the walls were made by family. Alex, our host, made us feel like we we're just sitting around having wine with friends. The view overlooked the vineyard and was quite a scene. Had such an amazing experience.
