Great hidden find of a winery off the beaten path on our way to Occidental. You have to make a reservation ahead of time so listen to all the 5 star reviews and do so. Alex guided us through the tasting where we first got a tour of the art gallery where his mom's art work was displayed. We thoroughly enjoyed our tasting of 5 wines starting with a Chardonnay and ending in a Zinfandel. The tasting is $50 which is waived if you buy two bottles. We ended up buying more than 2 bottles each between my wife and I. We especially loved the canned sparkling rose which was an added taste from Alex. We bought 6 cans of those. We will definitely return the next time we are in the area.

I've been here a couple times but the first time I got to meet the owner Brad Brad took us in his Can-Am around the vineyards to show off the 360° view which is spectacular! And I live here!! We started off with an amazing Chardonnay I have to say I've never had a Chardonnay made this style!!! And it's my new favorite Chardonnay. I'm wor of a red wine drinker but this got me to try other Chardonnays just amazing followed by a couple amazing Pinot noir's and a couple old vine Zinfandel's I don't want to give away too much (Have to leave a little something for your imagination. Definitely the best experience I've had in 2022 I feel guilty not buying anything but I have so much wine at home I would never be able to drink it in a lifetime! I am super excited to start bringing guests here again now that the pandemic is back to a normal pace!!??

Words fail to express just how unbelievably special this place is. Very private, small estate, family owned vineyard. Brad, the owner, took his time, gave us thorough explanations of everything that goes into creating his beautiful and delicious wines. He explained what it means to dry farm the grapevines (no outside irrigation) and even explained about the grafting process. I learned so much in the 2-3 hours we spent here. Our group thoroughly enjoyed the private tasting experience. The tasting room is beautifully decorated with Brad's wife's artwork (she does metal sculpting and the detail is AMAZING). We did not feel rushed at all, and came away with a head full of wine knowledge and a trunk full of wine. Oh, and be sure you listen to Brad's recommendations about where to stop off on your travels for bread, cheese and places to eat....this guy really knows his stuff!

A whimsical sculpture greets you upon arrival!

We had a fantastic visit to Square Peg winery today. It's got a laid back vibe and is not a pretentious experience at all!!! It's Family run and operated, I love that! Beautiful views and an outside tasting room in the redwoods was the perfect anecdote to all covid worries! The wines were delicious and Alex was a great host, too. We had many a laugh and enjoyed every sip. We will be back! Sue

My uncle can't stop talking about his experience at Square Peg! He tells me "Alex is a real cool dude!" True. You see, my uncle has a host of medical, physical, and mental challenges. It's not easy to take him anywhere. I tried the free vineyards, but people stare and comment. We now only go to nice places, off the beaten path. It was lucky we found Square Peg! (His favorite, frogs leap, was closed) So now he has a new favorite! Alex was SO nice to him! Instead of retreating into his shell, my uncle felt comfortable opening up. Mad dog 2020... old girlfriends... Miami brawls... it ran the gamut! Based on service alone, 5 Stars. The wine was great too! We tried a rosé, 2016 and 2017 Zinfandel, and 2016 and 2017 Pinot noir. My favorite was the 2017 Pinot. I hope they expand the property and include some benches or tables outside, as we would have liked to walk a little bit and enjoy a bit more wine! Nevertheless, it was truly a special time and highly recommend the place!

Great Pinot noirs here! Me, my friend, and husband visited this winery on a beautiful day! The property is absolutely beautiful and peaceful. We made reservations ahead of time and was seated inside the tasting room which was also an art gallery featuring one of the owner's paintings and work. You get views of the vineyard from the tasting room which is great. There was even a bunny running around outside. Our wine expert guided us through a tasting which consisted of Chardonnay and Pinot noirs. We loved the Pinot noirs and went home with plenty of bottles :) You can make a tasting reservation through their website. Highly recommended!

Fantastic Pinot and Chardonnay! I've not been to the winery, but I've had two of their wines. The Chardonnay is viscous fresh and lively with a bit of creamy ness, and fantastic balance of ripe fruit, acid and minerals. The Pinot has a lovely wafting bouquet that's of violets, exotic sweeter spices and ripe red Anna black fruits. In the mouth it's smooth with wonderful velvety flavors of all the fruit and touches of spices, cola, sassafras, and a long lingering smooth ethereal finish. Both wines are reminiscent of fine French Burgundy. Highly recommended.

The gorgeous view from the tasting room. The window looks like a painting :)

Come to Square Peg Winery for a fun day of wine tasting and thank me later. :) Our host Alex was such a nice guy. He was very informative without being a pretentious wine snob (you guys know who you are). He treated my boyfriend and I like old friends rather than just paying customers. You can tell he has a true passion for wine and super easy to talk to. The tour of the winery was a treat as well as all the artwork on display. If you are looking for a VIP experience with your girlfriends or just a fun date this place will definitely take care of you. Cheers! :)

I have made no bones about being a huge fan of Kosta Browne and the Pinot Noir they make. The…read more"Browne" in Kosta is none other than Michael Browne. Several years ago he left the winery bearing part of his name and ventured off on his own. The result of that is the Cirq Winery. Located in the Russian River Valley, Cirq much like the winery he founded before is focused on the creating of cult pinots. That most difficult of grapes to make wine from also produces some fo the worlds finest. Starting in 2011 they began offering Pinot from the Treehouse vineyard and added Bootlegger Hill to the list. The labels are fun and each offering ships with a poster size circus poster detailing the wines in that shipment. I was honored to among the first customers. The Treehouse: Sitting at 750 feet the vineyard is planted with 23, Swan, Pommard, Calera and 37 pinot varietals. I have only had the 2012 and 2013 and have the 13-15 sitting in the cellar. It was bright with nice acid, lots of fruit on the nose and had a good finish. I only had one but this would fantastic if you put a few years in the cellar. Bootlegger Hill is also above 7500 feet. Planted with Pino clones 15, 667, Pommard, 37, Calera and Elite, it has different soil than does the Treehouse. As such its grapes yield a completely different bottle. As with the Treehouse I have only drank the 2012. While the Treehouse is in your face the Bottlegger Hill is more subtle and soft on the palate. With cirtus and tobacco notes, it had a great mouthfeel and a nice long finish. The difference between the two really highlight the difference of the land or "terroir" can make. Given that its the same winemaker and the same winery is a fantastic contrast. For now, there is no place to taste and the wine is by list only. They look to open an actual traditional winery experience for peopel to visit.

This business does not care about it's customers and is so impossible to reach it's almost comical…read more I was a long-term customer of Fog Crest. In 2024 we received a shipment of wine where all the wine in the shipment was broken. In typical situations, wineries offer replacement of broken bottles, but Fog Crest was impossible to reach in spite of (literally) 50 phone calls and emails. Since I couldn't reach them, I canceled my subscription to their wine club. Flash forward a few months, they charge me another ~$500 on my credit card for wine, but never ship me any wine (in spite of the fact that I had already canceled online). Again, dozens of calls and emails, no answer and no response. Still trying. A few months after that, they charge me ANOTHER ~$500 on my credit card for wine, but don't ship that wine to me either. After probably 100 calls and emails, I finally talk to the wine club coordinator on the phone. She of course acknowledges my dozens of messages, and acknowledges my situation. She says she will replace the wine that was broken and figure out why they've been charging me for wine I haven't been receiving and make it right. But that she can't talk right now and she'd call me back with more information. That was a month ago. I've now called again dozens of times, and emailed. No response. Called and emailed the owner, no response. This is borderline criminal: $1,500 in charges for undelivered product, a non-existent customer service experience, and an online system so archaic that it doesn't process your cancelation and continues to charge you for product.

Zero Accountability and Terrible Customer Service - Avoid Fog Crest!…read more I'm absolutely appalled by my experience with Fog Crest Winery. We joined their wine club in 2023 and was charged $420 all of 2024/25 for wine that they NEVER shipped. When I called to inquire about where the wine was, I was met with complete silence--multiple calls and messages went unanswered. After finally getting a call back, the person said they only called me back because "she saw we had called a lot in one day." That was the first red flag. She promised to credit my account and look into another charge that had been applied. It's been SEVEN days since that conversation, and STILL no credit, no updates, and no resolution. I've followed up with multiple calls, messages, and emails... NOTHING. At this point, it's clear that they don't care about their customers. I highly recommend staying far away from Fog Crest if you value your time and money. Total waste of both

We came here with some friends after doing an event down the street…read more They also have indoor seating for wine tastings. They have a massive deck in front, and on a beautiful day, as we had, we got to sit out there and enjoy some delicious wines. I thought the wines were good, but I liked the space more. It has a bit of a retro vibe and many shaded areas to relax. We had a good time sipping and chatting. If you're in the area, I would say stop, get a few glasses, and enjoy that oversized patio. For some reason, the servicer was busy doing other things, although I think we were the only people there. I'll assume she was setting up or cleaning. The service was mediocre at best. We enjoyed the big patio/deck sipping with friends a perfect way to spend your Saturday afternoon. Cheers to you and SYOY

So after we hit Paul Matthew's Winery I had scheduled a visit with Bowman Cellars around the corner…read moreand was greeted by the energetic Flynn. She was attentive for awhile but then lost us because she stopped coming out and pouring more wine. I was booked for a one hour appointment that took 2 plus hours because Flynn seemed out of it or something was up. But idk what it was perhaps she was keeping herself busy with something inside! Hmmm ?! So she started us with a predominant gooseberry Sauvignon Blanc and then we had the Rose of Pinot Noir from Mendocino because the fruit is less expensive than the fruit in the Russian River Valley okay so it was decent with flavors of ripe red fruits such as strawberry and raspberry and a textured finish! Then we had the Chardonnay which was decent quality for a Chardonnay it had seen 20^ new oak gave it flavor and then we had the Russian River Valley Pinot Noir which was okay not great it had complexity but not much after hitting Paul Mathew's Pinot dense winery this Pinot seemed to be just okay and then we got to the final wine a red Zinfandel from the Sierra Foothills area and it was big and bold but lacking distinctive flavors. I didn't love it! . Then since they're not especially friendly towards those in the business because it's a 15% discount on wines purchased where I usually get a 30% discount and a comped tasting to which they usually will offer the rose' and Sauvignon Blanc to anyone in the industry!! Only I mean who is in the wine industry and wants to drink those wines, not me!! But I stand corrected because she did comp 2 of the tastings!! And that's good or required because I asked to be comped and was given some goofy answer as to they decide at the end of the tasting who gets comped or not but the fee is only $25 bones so not bad. Further, I requested to taste their Cabs to which theirs 1 from Alexander Valley and 1 from Oakville, Napa area and Flynn said yes, but warned me they had been opened on Thursday and it's Saturday so taken that point in I really liked the Cab from Alexander Valley because it had a light tone to it with a richness of blackberry fruit and savory spices it was superb while the one from Napa tasted dead on arrival!! Oh well but I could taste the potential of the wine within it!! And we left after tipping $40 bones!!
