On our road trip from Houston to Georgia, my family enjoyed a lovely meal with fantastic service at Squealers. But I would really like to brag about the owner, Theresa. When we made it to our overnight stop, 2 hours away, I realized I left my purse at the restaurant. Theresa refused to let us drive back (4 hours round trip!) to get it. Instead, she brought it to a FedEx and overnighted it to me at my next stop. I cried tears of relief. I've only been in here when it is slow. The service isn't amazing, but the girls that work here look like they just left the trailer park. This might sound like a derogatory statement, but last time I went in two of them had black eyes. I assumed it was the result of back yard wrestling, but I felt awkward enough staring and didn't want to make it worse by asking. The food is actually pretty darn good. The food here is always delicious, excellent quality, and the portions generous especially for the exceptionally reasonable prices. Their in-house sauces are fantastic and flavorful, and the service is courteous and friendly without fail. The real testament to how good an establishment is, however, is what happens when there's a mistake. I ordered delivery tonight, sliders and a dessert, but when they came it was the wrong dessert entirely, and unfortunately the only one on the menu I'd never eat! The sliders had a generous amount of meat on them--but no sauce, and I had none whatsoever of my own at home. I called about the mixup and they were unfailingly polite and apologetic, and sent someone back out right away. In less than fifteen minutes, I had the right dessert order, and the real kicker--an ENTIRE bottle of their wonderful signature sauce to make up for the missing usual side-cup. I was utterly wowed by their service and dedication to the quality of their food and their customers' experience. They'll have a loyal patron in me for life. Driving through MS for the first time, looking for some lunch and we found Squealers on Yelp. We are bowled over by how awesome the food and the entire experience was. Our server, Scarlett, was so friendly, efficient and helpful. We had pulled pork and brisket dinners. Both were so delicious, as were the sides. I'm no BBQ expert but we had a fantastic meal here. We got the potato bites as an appetizer which were good. I ordered the sampler and everything on the plate tasted great without having to add sauce. Ribs were tender but not falling apart and mushy. Some nice crust on the edges. Just the right texture. Food was good waitress was outstanding. And the desert was great they tried something new on us and it was like chocolate cake deep fried like a chocolate funnel cake. Overall: I could not recommend this restaurant to anyone for anything other than a couple of beers at the bar and would tell people on a schedule (or with young and hungry children) to avoid it. Service: Be prepared to spend at least two to two and a half hours in this restaurant because the service was slooooooow. We sat for 10 minutes before being greeted, another 5 minutes before our drink order was taken and a further 10 minutes before receiving our drinks and placing our food order. The food took ~ 35 - 40 minutes to show up. At the end, tracking down the server to bring the check was another 10 minutes. For those keeping score, that is a total of 1.25 hours waiting. When she stopped by the table, the server was friendly and not unprofessional, but very inefficient. She didn't provide refills of water or tea and had to be reminded multiple times to bring over items. Drinks: Mississippi is growing its local brewing industry and Squealers offered a nice selection, including at least one from Meridian. Food: the complimentary pork rinds were a pleasant, slightly spicy, surprise. The side of green beans were very tasty. The rest of the food was sub par at best. The best tasting (relatively speaking) protein of the three we tried was the quarter chicken. The chicken was desiccated and must have been the runt of the litter in life (would have more accurately described as one-sixth of a chicken). I'm not certain if the restaurant uses heat lamps in their service window but given the amount of time it took to receive our food, this may explain the shrinkage and the texture of the meat. The brisket was terrible. This may be because I am unfamiliar Mississippi barbecue. The brisket was served wet. Not sauced. Literally wet, like it was kept in a pan filled with broth immediately prior to being served. Brisket should be smoked and not soaked, IMHO, but again, this may be a Mississippi or Meridian thing. The ribs were also disappointing. I am not certain what cut of rib I was served, but for those few that we ate, we were left with a pile of small (1" long) bones. When I order a 1/2 slab of ribs, I expect that I will receive either spare ribs, st. louis style ribs or baby back ribs. Not here. The flavor was okay, nothing to write home about. As to the other two sides, the corn on the cob was dry (see wait time for food) and the greens were not appetizing. When traveling, I always prefer to find a local place in the hope of finding a hidden gem. I understand that in taking this approach, sometimes I win and sometimes I lose. My family and I were looking for some good BBQ, & stumbled upon this treasure! Our server was absolutely amazing. We were greeted from the time we entered the door until the last second we were leaving. The food... where do I start? The meal sizes are WELL WORTH your dollar... all the food was hot, & the ribs were so tender and juicy that I literally forgot all about adding the BBQ sauce! Another surprise was their kids menus. Instead of serving something like Styrofoam cups, they had actual sippie cups for the children!!!! Being that we had our 2 yr old with us, this was definitely a plus. NO SPILLS! When we asked for the "full experience"... We definitely got it. We even got to meet the chef (izzy) in passing & thanked her for such an amazing meal. Overall this place is now our new FAVE! Great spot to stop by when traveling through Mississippi. The bbq and sides taste amazing, as does the banana pudding. Service took awhile the day I went but that was since they ran out of bananas and had to restock. The waitress was apologetic and even gave another dessert while I waited. Usually consistently good BBQ. Food is good and service is fairly quick and friendly enough. I do wish they offered a Carolina style sauce, but that's a purely personal preference. I once ordered a pound of pulled pork to go and the buns they put in the bag were moldy. Unfortunately, I didn't notice that until half way into the sandwich at home. I have gone back and have not had a similar problem. In spite of that one unpleasant experience, I would still recommend Squealer's for good BBQ. read more

The service was horrible and the food sucked. My daughter ordered 6 boneless wings, she was brought out 3 burnt pieces of what was suppose to be boneless chicken. The waitress said I'll have them cook more. 20 minutes later another 3 rock hard pieces were brought out. The waitress forgot to give us utensils, my husband had to go hunt some down. EAT AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!! I was traveling through here for business and decided to try some Mississippian barbecue. It was after 9pm on a Friday and since all the other barbecue places were closed we ended up coming here with my business partner. It was the WORST EXPERIENCE I have ever had at any restaurant. Barbecue sauce was the only good thing about this place. After ordering the beef dinner- when the food came out I was appalled it had absolutely no usual smokehouse smoked smell- after one bite I tasted freezer burn in the meat and noticed it was uncooked - after letting the waitress know about the awful taste she said she was "sorry" - I then told her I couldn't eat it and politely requested the beef dinner be taken off my check because it tasted uncooked and wreaked like freezer burn. She first said OK but then returned and said she called the owner but the owner denied to take it off even though I didn't even eat it. My friend ended up splitting his chicken dinner with me since I was paying and it was my idea to go to a barbecue place. I have to say that I'll never be back here again. Not only was the food very unsatisfactory but the customer service was absolutely not what was expected from a dining establishment. I still tipped the waitress 25% because it wasn't her fault that the owners were so cheap to do what it takes to make their customer satisfied. As a business man myself I know first hand that customers are always priority. To my surprise the owner or manager never even came out but sent the waitress out to do their dirty work. read more
