This past Saturday I had an appointment with Joey Prixx to get a nape piercing. The shop is located inside the Hanover Mall and is quite impressive. There is a sitting room and someone to greet you when you walk in. Joey was awesome he explained the entire process for the piercing as well as after care and all the worse case scenarios and what to do if I run into any of them. He was so thorough with the placement. I told him what I wanted and we worked together to figure out the best placement on my nape since I have long hair. He was also very thorough with the spacing between each piercing!! The process itself was semi painful. He cleaned it up and of course all the tools and what not were sanitized!! One of them had popped out and he was available very Facebook and I was able to come in and get it out back in. I am now 5 days post op and I feel good... And they look good!!! read more

I was told I needed to book an appointment (+2 hours) to BUY lip rings, cause "only a piercer can open the cases". They have a literal wall of display cases. I'd went to squids ink two weeks ago to get jewelry as well, and the lady behind the desk was very nice and got them for me, despite insulting the other parlor that I'd gotten pierced at for whatever reason. This is the only piercing shop that I've ever had issues with, but there's any least one thing wrong each time. I'm having a kidney stone procedure next week and needed to remove metal jewelry. In the past, I've bought plastic jewelry and put it in myself. This isn't always easy and even letting my husband assist is difficult because he had large hands! I feel dumb for not considering going to a piercing shop for help. I was looking at places to buy non-metal jewelry. Unfortunately, my options are limited. I didn't want to shop online but I was close to doing that. My reason being I wasn't sure about the size of my current piercings. Looking back, I wish I had been more educated on the size of my jewelry. I've know about Squid Ink but didn't really know they also did piercings along with tattoos. Their website focuses more on tattoos. But I had walked by the shop and saw they sold jewelry too, so I gave them a call. I spoke to Joey on the phone and didn't realize at the time that he was the one who does the piercing work at the shop. He seemed friendly and told me he could customize my retainers and do pretty much all types. I decided to check out the shop the next day. Upon arrival, I was assuming I would just be purchasing the jewelry. I hadn't thought about having him change the jewelry as well! It actually made more sense because he could really see the size and it was easy for him to remove things, like my helix piercing, and put in the retainer. I met his apprentice, who asked for my permission to assist and observe. Joey and his apprentice (ah, I forget her name!) we're friendly and immediately put me at ease. They got right to work making the retainers in front of me. There was multiple glove changes, sterilization of the jewelry parts, etc. I was pleased with the comfort I felt but at the same time, clean and professional. I will definitely be coming back after my procedure to put my regular jewelry back in! My only other thought is I wish the website gave more info about piercings. I was hesitant as well since the shop is in the mall but I wasn't disappointed. read more

*** Note - I got a tattoo here when I was 18 and it was great. I've also seen Joey for piercing related reasons several times and he is AMAZING. *** This review is for the rest of the shop. I called a few months ago to see if I could come in to possibly get a draw up of a tattoo / have a consultation with an artist. The guy on the phone told me to come on in, so after driving almost 45 minutes I got there to be told that "things were a little crazy" and also told that I would have to bring in my own drawing for a tattoo (contradicting what I was told on the phone). I was annoyed and proceeded to go to Diamond Mind Tattoo for a $700 piece (which came out beautifully). Fast forward a while later. On Friday I called the shop to see if I could come in that day or the next to get a small tattoo of my boyfriend's name on me. The girl on the phone would not take a credit card over the phone for a deposit and wanted me to come in person just to try to make an appointment. I told her how far away I lived and she told me an artist had some free time at 1 pm the following day. She told me to call at noon time on Saturday before I headed out the door. At 11:59 on the dot I called the shop and she proceeded to tell me that the artist had booked another "bigger piece" and wouldn't be able to do mine. I was so annoyed because she made me wait to call last minute and then the artist just decided to take one of her friends instead of me? So fucking rude. The girl on the phone had no suggestions and basically was like "yeah sorry about that". I was beyond aggravated. Maybe they should stop living in the year 1973 and start taking deposits / cards / appointments over the phone. Anyway, I told the girl I'd go elsewhere. I hung up with her and immediately called Body Xtremes, who took me at 1:30 pm that very day (no wait or anything). I guess they actually care about their customers! Long story short - I'm over this place. Go here to see Joey for a good piercing experience. Don't go here for anything else. read more

Keith did my first tattoo which is on my ribs it was done 2 years ago and still looks amazing. Joey has done all my piercings (10 total by Joey) not one of them has ever been infected or had an issue. Devin did my second and third tattoo and they are also amazing. I got my lip pierced by Joey Prixx and he was awesome! He made me feel really comfortable and answered any questions I had. I got hit in the face a few days later and he has been so accommodating! He has changed my jewelry two different times so that I didn't have to lose my piercing and has provided great advice. And this isn't even a week later. If I want any more piercings, I will definitely be going back to Joey! Also, the guys at the front desk are really nice, the shop is clean, and the atmosphere is really relaxed. I went in to Squid Ink recommended by a good friend of mine. I've always been so iffy about going into salons inside the mall; whether it's for nails, hair, massages.. you name it ! But since this was a recommendation from a trustworthy friend, I went ahead . My friend made an appt at 3:30pm 11/27 with Joey to get our piercing done , we came in and was greeted by the receptionist; she was nice and asked for the usual ID and sign some consent form. . I initially wanted the snake eyes piercing at the tip of my tongue, but Joey straight up told me that he doesn't do that here, due to lots of complications in the future with peoples teeth, gums etc. He also said even though there were customers that had told him to just pierce it because it's what THEY want; it doesn't make him feel good knowing What can/May happen... which I totally respect. I came in there not wanting to know the downside of getting that piercing but Joey had told me all that I needed to know, and the last thing I want down the line as I age is getting a chip tooth while talking or whatever (my worse nitemare!). Anyways, I ended up getting my tongue re-open/pierced since it had been closed for 5+ years , a change in my tragus earring which was super long; and my cartilage earring change . He was able to make the earrings fit PERFECTLY so it's not poking/sticking out . I love the fact that he can customized the piercing (earrings) to your liking, and will also give opinion. You can tell that he truly cares for his customer and just the way his personality is is just awesome ! All the instruments are sterilize and the room was super clean ! I got my first tattoo done here by Robert Kane. The place is so fun and everyone was so nice. But the most important thing was that Robert Kane did an amazing job! I had no clue how to describe what i wanted but he was so nice to me even though i was so difficult. Went here a few years ago to get a conch piercing. Was fine and it looked good, but they refused to do it with a hoop, only a stud. I went to another place to get a hoop put in a few months later and they thought it was odd they wouldn't do it with a hoop here. Then I got another piercing at Squids a few months ago and it gave me an infection and I went into shock. Spent 6 nights in the hospital. Not sure if it was my fault for improper cleaning or it was their tools/piercer. Either way, I have been to a lot of tattoo and piercing shops much nicer than this one. read more

Okay, so this shop is in a mall. That just makes it more accessible, and let's face it, our entire lives are going to be in malls eventually so suck it up and check this place out. The staff at this shop are as professional and welcoming as it gets. The artists are both clean and talented. I was lucky enough to have been tattooed by Keith a few weeks ago and I could not be happier with my newest addition. Keith free-hand drew the piece onto my leg and made adjustments as necessary or requested. Now let's be real here; getting tattooed hurts and it's not the most pleasant experience in the world but Keith was a lot of fun to work with and made the best of the situation. Most people I talk to say they are skeptical about a tattoo and piercing place inside a mall. My first response? Squids Ink is not one of those shops to be skeptical about! I have gotten a tattoo by Sweets, and it was a great experience! I get so many compliments on it, and I am always spreading the word about the great work done at Squids Ink! I got some work here done by Phil about a year ago here, a pretty massive tattoo of hermes on my back. Too this day it looks amazing, even more so then the ink I had done at one of the most reputable tattoo shops in Boston. Granted, its a little weird being in a mall. But once you get past that it is no different then what your average shop looks like. Its clean, the tattoo areas are private and it just seems like a great group of people who work there. I am going to be returning at some point in the near future. Joey Prixx is the best! I saw him to change out my nose stud and buy a new one for some variety. He is super sweet and very professional! He obviously takes a lot of pride in and has a passion for his work. He keeps his area very clean and is customer service-focused. It took longer than I expected to pick out a new nose stud and he never once made me feel rushed. He is incredibly kind, friendly, knowledgeable and patient. It's not easy to find great places like this on the South Shore and now that I've met Joey, I'm not going anywhere else. The shop is clean and comfortable, and even though it's in the mall, you aren't on display for all the people walking by, each tattoo area is blocked off tastefully so you have privacy. The people that work here are all really nice and do amazing tattoo work. But they open at 12 and any time I've gone there around that time, I'm told the artists aren't taking clients until 1pm. Today I went there at 12:30 hoping to talk to someone and then get a tattoo started by 1 if there weren't any appts ahead of me - no artists even there today. What is the point of a tattoo shop even opening if there's no artists there to do tattoos? Phil lets me pick his brain about the industry as well as creativity. He is articulate, and knows how to combine his knowledge of placement and healing to custom make a tattoo session for anyone. Everyone else has great art work as well, Keith has an awesome style as well as the other guys who operate there. They work in a timely fashion and respect privacy of the clients who come in. This place is a liars den that uses deceptive practices to lure underage teens into piercings that cannot be removed without an additional costly appointment. They also will not remove a piercing without a birth certificate present (which they already have on file from the original piercing.) They also used the WRONG studs on a nose and ear piercings - studs that are NOT meant for ears and noses. This place should be SHUT DOWN!! I've gotten a few piercings done by Joey and I must say he is absolutely amazing at what he does! I've also gotten tattoos done by Bobby and I also must say he takes his time and really makes sure the tattoo is perfect ruin. Weather it be big or small. They are all important to him! I haven't gotten anything done recently due to being pregnant. But after having my son 3 months ago I'm ready to finish and fix tattoos and possibly get some more piercings. I brought my sister here to get a tattoo for her birthday because my friend Sweets worked there and I liked his work from what I had seen him post on Facebook. After talking with him about this since march it was more then difficult to actually get "fit in" , mind you this was in August. I guess 5 months notice isn't enough? Well that was just the beginning. Sweets hadn't even drew up the design by the time we got there and we had sent him pictures months before. After he completed the tattoo of the dandelion it was very obvious the tattoo was rushed. It took less then an hour and although they have hourly rates posted for tattoos this tattoo cost a lot more. He didn't even take the time to put more then three lines to simulate the puffy part of the dandelion seeds. And it was all black ink, no coloring. It was a stark contrast to the work I had seen him post on his Facebook page and I have a feeling he selectively chooses who's tattoo's to put the time, detail and lastly effort into. The worst part was when I simply asked sweets to just touch up the tattoo and make a few slight changes he became irate and very mean and verbally abusive. I still have not spoke to him over this whole thing 7 months later and he hasn't even attempted to apologize. I would never recommend this place read more
