At times during the tour, I felt like I was in a seance, as she called out to "sweet spirits" and asked that they turn off the lights and such. I consider myself pretty open, but this was not what I was expecting. Patty and one teenage girl along on the tour too, brought ghost meters, which "picked up" several during the tour. The teenage girl and her parents were into it, but it just wasn't my thing. Reservation is done via phone. I tried several days to book the tour, the voice mail was full, but finally was able to get an answer the day before the trek. She said that sometimes there are large parties that show up and completely fill up the tour. So I went ahead and pre-booked our spots, which were $15 each. The tour started at Old Talbot Tavern at 8pm. I was surprised to walk up and see maybe 40ish people already there to take the trek too, so it's popular. It didn't appear that anyone was turned down though. We started outside and Patty talked a bit about her past and how she used to manage Old Talbot Tavern. Then we went in the tavern, and the upstairs Jesse James room. I had already been in there, and it's spooky up there, even in the daylight. That's where she started talking and trying to get the ghosts to respond. The amount of people on the tour was so large, that a few people were out in the hallway area. From there, we went into an upstairs room/conference like are where we were able to sit down while she dimmed the lights and summoned the ghost to turn out the light and communicate. The next stop was out in front of Jailers Inn and by that time, even though there was one more stop, we had enough and cut out early.

Also, unlike the national park, Diamond Caverns is first-come first-served with no reservations. I just visited the area for the second time, this time we had a lot of family members including small children. We did the early morning Mammoth Cave beginner-level tour and then went straight over to Diamond Caverns for their tour. Everything else in the national park was sold out for the day, but we went straight onto a Diamond Cavern tour with no wait and a group of 14 of us. The tour guide was very patient with the bunch of small children in our group. Overall, I highly recommend Diamond Caverns if you are in the area and interested in taking an hour-long tour that includes a lot of steps to get up and down to/from the caverns. There is some neat local history included as well. There's a full gift shop with beverages and restrooms available on site. No food, drinks, or bags of any kind are allowed in the caverns.

When looking for things to do in lieu of MCNP we ended up at Diamond Caverns. It was ok. We'd been to Carlsbad Caverns recently so this was very underwhelming. 4 stars because the staff was great. The tour guide had her script nailed and she was passionate about working there. Large gift shop. My kids loved it and sometimes at the end of the day that's all that matters.

What a wacky and eclectic place the Frazier Kentucky History Museum is. But, I guess, so is the…read morestate of Kentucky. It's got a varied history. This museum gives visitors several slices of that history, from bourbon and whiskey to racing to the Civil War and the tobacco industry. One of my favorite permanent exhibits is on the second floor. It's a room dedicated to Kentucky bourbon and whiskey called the Bourbon Bottle Hall. It's just a bunch of bottles of whiskey and bourbon on backlit white shelves, but it feels supernatural to step into the room and be surrounded by all of the different bottles. You got everything from your Elijah Craigs to your Pappy Van Winkles. What else? There were Kentucky sports mascot costumes on display, a life-sized wax statue of Colonel Sanders holding a bucket of his Kentucky Fried Chicken with its 11 herbs and spices, a little play area for children, a display of German toy soldiers, a display of costumes made by local students, and lots of other interesting things to look at. The Frazier is good for all ages, but it's mostly a "looking" museum, so there aren't too many interactive things to touch, which is why it might not hold the attention of really young kids. My tween and teenagers liked it, but they were done within about 30 minutes. It's a small museum, but I think it has a lot of cool stuff in it and definitely worth a visit.

Our tour guide was good as far as information but my husband and I both thought he was a little flippant towards people in the group and although he would say "you'll have time for pictures" he would be audibly irritated with people if they were more than a couple feet behind the person in front of them or if they talked quietly amongst themselves while stopped to take said picture. It's not the most expensive tour we have taken but allowing each group of ppl in the group a few seconds to snap a picture should be allowed for the price you pay. I would recommend this cavern to people trying to choose from several in the area.

So, it's not a bad little hike to take. This particular day it was gloomy and sort of wet. I was chilly, and couldn't seem to get warm. This particular Park cost a fee to enjoy but because its not in season the shacks gate was open do no charge. I definitely would recommend and go back again.

The tours are in high demand, so make sure someone from your group gets there a few minutes before 9 to line up to schedule your time slot for the day. We did a tour with tour guide Morgan a few weeks ago, and it was awesome! Very interesting and educational. The tour takes about 20 minutes and you get to see a lot of different areas of the cave with different features, as well as some crayfish! There is one part where you can reach out and touch the cave as well. The boat is small and all riders straddle the bench inside for the duration of the tour. Could be difficult for older people and a little scary for some folks, especially those who have claustrophobic tendencies. You also need to be able to go down 85 steps to get to the boat and back up those steps after the tour. Life jackets are provided! Important to mention that my family is NOT outdoorsy at all, but we really enjoyed the tour! I recommend wearing a hat of some sort to prevent panic if any water drips on you as you go through. Highly recommend to those visiting the park!!
