    South Indian Breakfast Combo

Srivari is a newly opened pure vegetarian restaurant in Pleasanton, and what immediately catches your attention is its rather elaborate menu. From South Indian tiffins and thalis to tandoori starters, North Indian curries, biryanis and even Indianized pastas, there is plenty to choose from--perhaps a little too much for a single visit. The interiors are also nicely done with a premium, temple-inspired feel. Paintings of Indian monuments and traditional elements on the walls give the restaurant its own character instead of the usual functional Indian restaurant setup. We ordered the Tiffin Combo for our daughter. I personally like such combos because you get to taste multiple items and understand what is good, excellent or something you may order separately the next time. The quantity was sufficient enough for us to taste everything and also comfortably feed our daughter. Everything in the combo was good with no complaints, but what particularly stood out was the vada. It seemed freshly made, unlike the frozen and refried stuff which we unfortunately get at quite a few places these days. We started our meal with both the Classic Paneer Tikka and Badami Paneer Tikka. Both were very good, but completely different from each other. The classic version had a nice smoky taste, whereas the Badami Paneer Tikka was milder, creamier and slightly garlicky. That little hint of garlic nicely cut through the creaminess and prevented it from becoming too rich or monotonous. Their tandoori section is quite extensive as well, with multiple paneer tikka variations, kebabs and sizzlers. For the main course, we ordered the Malai Kofta, and the gravy was excellent. It was nicely laced with khada masala, with the elaichi flavour coming through beautifully. The koftas were soft yet toothsome and did not simply disappear into the gravy. But what really stole the show were the Indian breads. We ordered both the Garlic Naan and Bullet Naan, and trust me, I do not remember eating such nicely made and addictive naans in recent times. They were flaky and generously embedded with finely chopped garlic, coriander leaves and green chillies. The Bullet Naan was soft, slightly gooey and flavourful, whereas the Garlic Naan was peculiarly crunchy--the way a good garlic naan should actually be. Both are an absolute must-try. By this point we were so full that we could not try the Malabar Paneer Biryani, which sounded rather interesting, or their Indianized pasta. The menu includes preparations such as Malai Chilli, Green Chilli and Curry Leaf Pasta, which is certainly unusual enough to warrant another visit. Their thalis also seem to be quite popular, with separate North and South Indian options, so we have conveniently kept those for next time. Service was attentive throughout, and overall, Srivari turned out to be a very satisfying experience. The fresh vada, both versions of paneer tikka, the flavourful Malai Kofta and, above everything else, those excellent naans made the meal memorable. A welcome addition to Pleasanton's vegetarian dining scene.

Wow! Every dish we tried was flavorful and delicious. All the ingredients were fresh and presented beautifully. The service was excellent. Our waiter was very attentive and the owner was friendly and welcoming. The space is beautifully decorated. The restaurant ambience is perfect for a special date night and family gathering. We can't wait to come back and try everything else on the menu!

We hadn't decided what to order before arriving and the menu at the cash register didn't say what was in the different dishes so we asked the cashier what to get and yolo'd. Think we got a mylappre dosa, a marsala dosa, and a pongal vadai combo but I couldn't tell you for sure. Then, before we'd even settled in and googled what we ordered, the food was at our table with a waiter that had a bunch of sauces on a tray. I grabbed one of each not realizing each plate came with their own set of sauces and that they'd be rotating around to bring more if you needed. Whoops! Overall, food was fine and meal was obviously super fast, but it was a whirlwind and not necessarily kind of newcomers interested in trying the cuisine for the first time. Oh! I did get a chai which was lovely, but even that they give you a token which you redeem whenever you want your chai. I was super confused and asked the cashier when I could get my chai and he said, "oh, you want it now?" and took the token back before making my drink. Just felt overwhelming but it'd be easier to go back now that I've done it and maybe that was an authentic experience?

Walked around the building looking for the entrance. Tripped at least once on uneven payment. Upon entering I was greeted, given a menu, assigned a seat at the bar. Seeing it was a drink menu, I asked for a food menu. After consultation with bartender, I ordered. He gave order to waitress. Never saw him again. 5ish minutes later, waitress came over to inquire what I wanted to drink. "Water" i replied. Water came 12 minutes later with my food. Offerings: South India fare: soup, entrees, salads, entrees, vegetarian, non-vegetarian. Also pasta, India habachi. Bites: Dakshin Chicken Chettinad (18.99) med. Spicy. Small bowl with big spoon -boneless chicken pieces slowly braised in a savory with many spices (garlic, cumin, black pepper, star anise, funnel seeds, kok slaps...), south curry leaves, and coconut. Every bite deliz. -very condensed savory mix with plentiful Unami. Hotness from peppers not chilis. Tandoori garlic naan (3.99) ordered this. Got plain. Tasted plain. Not spiciness. Desired garlic not to repel vampires but to lower my cholesterol. Didn't discover discrepancy till I checked receipt. When finished, I asked the new bartender for bill. He called waitress. She came over and asked can she clear plates? "Ok" I said. She did and disappeared. Asked bartender again for my bill. Decor is lots of bright lites, big dining area, 2 flatscreens tuned to sports. A fish tank with no fish, lots of hanging faux leaves from ceiling & the left wall. 3.5 stars Food wonderful. Service & decor underwhelming. Doubtful repeat.

For the mains, we got dal makhani, shahi paneer, and a bread basket of naans. We also tried the Amritsari kulcha with chole. I liked the dal and shahi paneer. The naan was soft and warm, and there was a good amount in the basket. The entrees were a little small, though. Service was fine, and the food was decent. It's an option you could consider if you're in the area.

Weekends is buffet only for lunch. It was a good option for us as we are a mix of vegetarians and meat eaters, kids and adults. This allows us to taste many dishes without having to order a lot of items. They had setup a large table on one side of the restaurant and this gave us enough privacy to be by ourselves. The service was good but they were refilling the Naans on request. But they cleared our plates and filled water promptly. The food was a good mix and all of us liked it. There were some issues and we pointed it out to the manager and he was appreciative of the feedback. He even offered to give us some samplers to take home. We were already full and so declined.
