the saag and lachha paratha was delicious... but unfortunately, the service was not up to par. maybe if was an off night for them, who knows? when i asked for the check, i sat there waiting over 15min for it. and when the server finally brought the Mobile POS to my table, he stuck it pretty much in my face and just mumbled the amount i owed. i told him that i never received my masala chai, which i asked for at the beginning of my meal, and kindly would like it removed from the bill. he rolled his eyes, made the adjustment, and plopped the mobile pos on the table right in front of me. so unbelievably rude and unprofessional, didn't even ask how my meal was or any of the usual hospitality follow-up questions, and i was made to feel like an utter inconvenience even when i tried to be very patient with them because they appeared understaffed tonight. the food was delicious but unfortunately, i don't believe i'll be returning because of the rude, unprofessional service. so disappointing. read more

Stopped by Star Chaat Cuisine for a quick, spontaneous dinner before catching a movie nearby. I was curious about the menu options and it seemed pretty popular from the amount of people at the restaurant, so we opted to dine in. We sat down and while browsing the menu briefly, we realized the options were are vegetarian and there were no meat options. My partner was slightly disappointed, but he ordered one of the thali options, and I ended up getting the chole bhature. The thali was a bit underwhelming, the daal was alright, but other curry dishes were not super appetizing and there was one sauce that seemed a bit sour and watery. However, I couldn't identify the distinct flavors, so it wasn't something that left an impression. I did enjoy the kheer (rice pudding), as my partner is not a fan of dessert. The chole bhature was our favorite, as the fresh, puffy bread and the chickpea curry was spicy and flavorful and we enjoyed it quite a bit. I had initially planned to order something else, and ended up changing my mind last minute. I'm glad we tried the chole bhature, totally worth it! The bhel puri (puffed rice) dish that came with the thali was pretty good too, as it had a nice mix of toppings & savory flavors. Customer service was excellent and attentive, I had mentioned that we had a reservation and were short on time, so they were quick with bringing out our order. They did initially forget the tea that was part of the thali, but I alerted a staff member and they brought it out promptly. Same thing for requesting the check or asking for take out boxes, it was efficient and the restaurant staff were helpful and friendly. It's also great the restaurant offers monthly specials, and the interior was pretty standard but had a good amount of seating. I'd likely return to try other chaat items on the menu. Possibly worth visiting if you're in the area and looking for a flavorful, vegetarian meal. read more

Always solid. I am overdue on a review here. Great food and fast whether eat in or take out. I almost always get a thali and a chaat (which is a lot of food!), but their menu is large including rotating specials. Last visit they had a special thali and I was just blown away. I'm glad we picked this place as its a hidden gem. First off, if you love vegetarian cuisine with robust flavor this s your jam! I chose the Aloo Mattar and it didn't disappoint! The potatoes and peas in warm onion sauce was a nice blend of textures, spices and stew-like broth. My friend ordered the Chili Paneer and that was amazing as well! It had peppers, chili cubed cheese and a nice level of heat to it. Speaking of, the waiter asked what level of heat you prefer and that's a nice touch as some like it hotter than others. We topped it off with fresh Naan (which was equally amazing, nothing like fresh naan!) and a side of jasmine rice. All you can ask for! But there's more! The service here was excellent too. Super attentive and very fast! I was actually surprised how quick it was. Lastly the restaurant is clean. The seating and table surfaces are all clean and presentable. There were a couple boxes here and there which led me to believe it was a new place or they just got a large delivery. I have been a regular customer of this restaurant, consistently ordering through DoorDash. It has actually been one of my biggest expenses recently. Unfortunately, their quality has dropped a lot. They have started cutting corners, and there is no consistency anymore. Today I ordered bread pakora, which has always contained only spiced potatoes, just as described. But this time it arrived with both potatoes and slices of paneer. I was really disappointed. I do not like paneer in pakoras that already have potatoes, and that is exactly why I chose bread pakora. They have never added paneer before and it is not even mentioned in the ingredients. This random change made no sense and completely ruined the dish for me. They also reduced the amount of salad when I order three or four items. Today my mint lassi arrived at room temperature. The Amritsari naan has gotten worse too. These days it comes out thick on one side and extremely thin on the other. Their food is not cheap, and I am really unhappy. We were looking for Indian food in the evening around 4:30PM on the drive back from Yosemite, and found that this was one of the few places that was open. It also seemed to have great variety in the menu and we all wanted to eat different things (Indian) so this place had everything we wanted, including some specials. And reviews were also great. But I must say we were a little disappointed with the food. We were a big group and ordered quite a few dishes, - Paneer Makhani: This is supposed to be their signature dish but we thought it was bland and didn't have enough flavor. - Methi Puri with Aloo: This is a go to dish for me wherever I see it and it did not disappoint. The whole group liked this, puri wasn't too oily and the potato curry (dry) was delicious. - Spicy Paneer Wrap with Spinach Paratha: average, not the right flavor, not spicy, and a little bland again - Ragda Patties: This was good and authentic - Badam Milk: not much to complain here - Ambarsari Naan: Pretty heavy (expected), good dish, but we didn't like the chole that came with it much Also, we went in July and could see their July specials on their menu online, but they only had the June specials still when we went there. There were a couple of dishes on the July specials we wanted to order but could not. The service was very quick, our food was out in 5 minutes mostly, and it also seemed pretty busy for 4:30PM, although it was still the long weekend. We've had a disappointing experience with Star Chaat Cuisine on multiple occasions. We placed catering orders twice--once for a morning pickup and once in the afternoon--and both times we had to wait 30-40 minutes past the committed pickup time. In both cases, when we arrived at the scheduled time, we were told that the food had not even been started yet and that we would need to wait another 30 minutes or more. What was more frustrating was being told that it was somehow our fault for not calling to remind them, even though the order had already been confirmed with a specific pickup time. For the morning order, they later said they don't open until 11:30 AM and that we shouldn't place an 11:00 AM order--but then why accept the order in the first place and confirm that it would be ready? The food is good, but reliability and communication are critical for catering orders, and unfortunately that has been lacking. Accepting orders for times you can't honor and then blaming customers for delays is not acceptable. Hoping they improve their order management and accountability going forward. read more
