    Veggie Cheese Corn Sandwich
    Sarah L.

Better than Idly Express. I know it's not a fair comparison We ordered benne karam masala dosa and veggies cheese corn sandwich. They took 30 minutes to prep the food. When the food came, they were piping hot. It was worth the wait from someone who does not eat Indian food everyday. The dosa was too spicy for me. Even my Indian friend who loves spicy food couldn't handle it, she was sweating bullets hahaha. I would have finished it if it were not too spicy. The crepe was thick enough to allow scooping the filling and dip in sambar and chutney. The filling was creamy. The sandwich was good. I devoured it in no time! I dipped it in ketchup too. Oh it was a good flavor. The bread was toasted just right, toasty but not something that scratched your gums as you bite into it. AND not greasy! The filling was different from all the sandwiches Ive had before. I'll totally get it again. Lots of tables. Lots of parking.

We went to Amrutha Vilas for lunch with friends and tried the thali, which was delicious. All the items in the thali tasted great and it was reasonably priced. The ambience is good and the service is quick.

    Mirchi Bajji

We've generally liked this place for its simple, comforting South Indian food, which is why this recent experience was disappointing. We ordered through DoorDash and included a few snacks, including Mirchi Bajji. Unfortunately, the quality of the food we received made us wonder whether enough care was taken while preparing the order. The Mirchi Bajji in particular looked poorly made and far below what we've come to expect from this restaurant. I've attached a photo so the owners can review it and hopefully improve their food quality.

They have expanded the restaurant and now has more space, wide variety of menu with multiple options. I liked the South Indian breakfast options, tried thali and chat. Chat was mediocre but the thali has great options. Service was quick. Nice spot for South Indian food

New favorite spot!! Every dosa was PERFECTLY crispy. All chutneys were tasty and paired well with all dosas we got. Stuffed mirchi is spicy but worth every burning bite! Menu is expansive but I'm convinced that you can't go wrong with any dish considering how good everything we ordered was. Fast service despite being very busy. I will definitely be back!

Highly recommend coming for the food! They have a large menu of different kinds of dosas and appetizers to try! We loved every single thing we ordered and will be coming back again for more. We asked for extra crispy and it was perfection! They give so much chutney and sauces for each dish. The sambar is also fresh and hot and well seasoned. Service was a little slow and we had to keep asking for things like utensils, plates, water, napkins. They really expanded the inside and location. Much better ambience and seating options. Also upgraded plates and bowls so that was appreciated since our last visit.

This review has been a long time coming, and I truly wish I had more pictures. If you're looking for food that feels like a warm hug from home, this is it. Every single thing I've tried here has been absolutely delicious and, to top it off, incredibly reasonably priced. I usually grab food to go, and it's always fresh, generously portioned, and packed with love. But let me tell you about my recent experience with their benne dosa. Oh my goodness--one bite and I was almost in tears. It was that good! Perfectly crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and packed with flavor. It's the kind of dish that makes you nostalgic for flavors you didn't even know you missed. Their thali is another favorite of mine. It's not unlimited, but the portions are more than enough, and it even comes with a dessert and a refreshing cup of watermelon juice. There are so many different varieties of sides and curries that come with it, all delicious. They also have a snack station where you can pick up treats like ladoos and other savory goodies. It's such a charming addition to the place! Although it's small, they've made good use of the space, and there's outdoor seating if you prefer a more open vibe. Just a tip--try to visit during off-peak hours to avoid waiting, as it can get quite busy. This spot holds a special place in my heart, and I never miss a chance to visit whenever I'm in the area. It's comfort food, it's soul food, and it's a little piece of home away from home.

    Beet Root Dosa

The veg thali at Amrutha Vilas is a symphony of colors, flavors, and textures! On my visit, the daily assortment included a welcome drink of badam milk (made of almonds and saffron); a sweet of ragi halwa (finger millet flour, ghee, and nuts); a stuffed mirchi (green pepper breaded with chickpea flour batter topped with onions/herbs/peanuts); potato fry; a spicy capsicum curry; tomato rice; a thick thotakura dal (lentils with amaranth); kothimera (coriander) rasam (a strong peppery soup); and palakura pachadi (a salty, spicy chutney of spinach and chilies). Every item was distinct in flavor and delicious in its own way, and the fan-shaped thali was rounded out with a few staples: a generous portion of white rice, curd rice, a puffy fried poori, crunchy cylindrical fryums, and sweet paan (an aromatic breathfreshener made of betel leaf). This was truly a feast for the senses, which came with generous portions at an unbelievable value! In addition to their daily thali, this casual South Indian vegetarian restaurant also offered a huge variety of tiffins, including a few fusion specials. The Beetroot Dosa was a thin, crispy crepe with beets mixed into the fermented rice and lentil batter, giving the dosa a unique purple color. The dosa was smeared with a spicy chutney on the inside and had a filling of chopped onions and tomatoes, but my favorite part was the accompaniments. The dosa came with sambar (a creamy lentil stew), masala potatoes, a red tomato chutney, a sweet ginger chutney, and my favorite, a peanut chutney, which had a deliciously earthy flavor and grainy texture. Overall, the food here was fresh and delicious, and the flavors and spices were all on point!

The thali is an amazing value. It reminds me of that old George Foreman commercial: "you won't pay a lot, but you'll get a lot". For the price it would be understandable if they cheaped out on the amount or quality of the dishes, but they totally didn't. Just recently they upped their game by moving to a much nicer location and switching to real metal plates instead of disposable ones. So the restaurant is actually much nicer than it looks from the Yelp photos.

Was the perfect size too, didn't feel sluggish or too full after eating which sometimes happens when I eat at places that have massive ones. I also tried Andhra Garelu for the first time and it's now my new favorite Indian food. For those who aren't familiar, the best way I can describe it is a savory doughnut without any frosting or toppings (taste a lot like potato/french fries to me, but staff told me it was made with flour not potatoes). It was the perfect thing to dip in the sauces I had leftover from my dosa. The staff here are also incredibly friendly and I enjoy coming here to catch up with them. You can't miss this spot if you are in the Pleasanton area and looking for tasty meal with excellent service!

The food was good overall, with a solid variety: chicken, mutton, and fish curries, biryani, several vegetarian dishes, mango lassi, sweets, curd rice, puri, vada, noodles, and hot tea. My personal favorites were the carrot halwa, mango lassi, and biryani. The only downside was how they handled the naan. Instead of having it at the buffet, they serve it directly to the table. With the rush, it was really hard to get any, we waited almost 20 minutes for our first (and only) basket. It would be much better if naan were available at the buffet or if they circulated it more frequently. On the plus side, they were quick about clearing plates. Prices are reasonable: $24.99 for adults and $11.99 for kids, with kids under five eating free.
