I am caregiver for an 85 year old man who recently began displaying all the symptoms of a severe Urinary Tract Infection; confusion, loss of balance, urinating a strong, dark, urine. He has issues with dehydration. He took a fall this week and twice last week. I am only part time. The squad came and took him to this dump. He has been in there since this past Monday with no real answers. First they were looking at normal pressure hydrocephelas, where cerebral spinal fluid backs up, and begins creating neuromuscular issues, such as with balance, gait, mobility, and mental processing. We were told a small shunt would solve the issue, confirming it would be determined with a spinal tap. Upon visiting yesterday, he was NPO, which we thought meant he was scheduled for the procedure. He also had an MRI to rule out any cerebral issues or seeing if the falls did any damage. Now, they seemed more concerned about his cervical spine and doing some overpriced surgery that could kill him, while completely ignoring any of the neurological issues previously discussed. Aside from that, he had a few accidents after they removed the Foley Catheter and his current inability to feel urination or defecation until it is too late. He was bullied by an overnight nurse for pooping on himself twice, and they are withholding fluid and food for no reason. No procedure has been scheduled, giving cause for starving him and making his dehydration worse. I hate all things Bon Secours. They almost killed me in 2017 in Mary Immaculate in Newport News, Virginia, after telling them I had a previous bad experience with nerve blocks. I had a reaction to the on-board Scalene nerve block that sent me into liver failure. This place sucks. It may look like a nice place, but it's a sh*t hole. If you love your family, take them to Chippenham or Johnston-Willis. read more

Ordered the steak quesadilla, meat and veggies were alright but lots to be desired in the cheese department. Way too much of it and not cooked enough. Also not very flavorful. Visited the hospital because my mom got a hernia. Doctor squeezed her hernia and proceeded to say it wasn't bad and for it to be taken care of later, by that time it strangled itself and she had to get part of her intestine removed. That hernia is the second worst pain she's felt in her life; up there with intussusception. Worse than childbirth. Wish they listened to her screams of agony or put a little more effort into their steak quesadillas. read more

I thought I was having a medical emergency and so I went to the hospital to rule out heart conditions. Once it was ruled out, I continued to have nausea and visibly vomited in front of staff. I was told since my heart work up was fine that my nausea and vomiting was not a medical emergency. After further advocacy, they gave me zofran, which I vomited. They still wanted to send me home. Finally gave me compazine and I had an adverse reaction. Asked for something to help and they discharged me. I ended up at chippenham. So instead of one 300 dollar copay, I got stuck with two. When I mentioned we were leaving And going to another hospital- miraculously they found a room. The level of care on the floor & ER was non existent! I was waiting to see how long it would take. They haven't changed my bed sheets in 3 days. For the first two weeks the trash was emptied three times. It was overflowing in the bathroom. Disgusting and unsanitary. I can't even begin to tell you about the discharge to rehab and how they let that fall through and then getting help from discharge to home. I had to do totally on my own. Great Nurses in ER. Took my 87 year old father for stomach pain and after 6 hours blood work and a CT scan they said everything was fine. No one ever touched his stomach now he has a knot you can feel when he lays down. Gonna have to take him to somewhere that will help him. read more

My son went almost a year ago due to a broken bone. I am just now receiving a bill that they neglected to contact me for insurance. The Billing department are unprofessional and rude. I was told to contact insurance to establish who is primary and the insurance told us it was denied because they put in the wrong cpt code. DONT GO HERE! The worst hospital ever. I recently visited the ER and unfortunately had a terrible experience. Upon arrival, I was extremely sick and weak, and despite this, I was placed in a chair in the ER hallway and left forgotten. I sat there for quite some time before I decided to leave and go to a new hospital. It wasn't until I disclosed my intentions to leave that a doctor finally came to see me. While receiving my IV, another nurse came and moved me back to the waiting room. I can't comprehend how a hospital's first priority isn't the comfort and care of their sick patients. During COVID there one area to enter was through the emergency This is exposing those who do not have COV19 to those that may have the virus and are there with much more serious issues. The pull up parking lot was blocked because they had some issue with with screens. So there where water hoses lying all across the area. So not only could you not get to this area when you pulled in the person you dropped off had to be able to walk well because it was a long way and obstacles in the way. So my suggestion is to mark your areas clearer to accommodate your patients so a they can get to areas they need to safely and know where they are going. It would be nice put people at the screening tables that are not so argumentative and disrespectful to the people coming in. With this much lack of communication there is confusion on patients parts and you don't need someone making it worse read more

I was seen in the emergency department at St. Francis today. The level of care of beyong exceptional. Everyone with whom I enteracted was professional, compassionate and reassuring. I cannot remember that in the six decades of my life experieing a higher quality of care. I really felt like the staff cared. They were extremely helpful in that I was having difficulty maneuvering. Noone halted in extending a hand or arm for me to use to be ablet to sit up, get up or walk. I am so fortunate to have a hospital of this quality so close to my home!! read more

My husband and I drove to the ER at St. Francis, about 45 minutes from our home. He had slipped and fallen in the bathtub at home. When we arrived, we were kindly greeted by the registration clerks. the triage information was taken, and shortly thereafter, my husband and I were taken inside one of the ER rooms for him to be seen. Solid joint. Interesting experience for me. I went in for a condition that I've experienced before. The doctors always blame one thing. The nurse practitioners actually seem to read the charts and talk about the condition as it applies to me rather than assuming it's just the usual cause. The RNs are mostly good. I had one who was rather rude, her name was Ruth and she was an Irish girl. She was late on giving me my medication, questioned whether or not I needed it when it was clear that I did. One exchange went to the realm of "do you need anything else?" and I responded "yes, the medication I requested earlier" and she shot back "Oh, you still want that?" and I said "Yeah, I wanted it two hours ago when I was due to receive it. So if you could please get on that, I'd very much appreciate that." The food is okay? I was on a clear liquid diet, a full liquid diet, a low fat diet, and then a diabetic diet (they gave me something called a TPN bag that raised my blood sugar to astronomic levels) and honestly, the food is a little underwhelming. The vegetable broth is alright, the chicken and beef broths are a little weird. The grits are pretty great. The turkey is overly processed and not great. I ordered the chicken breast with a sweet potato, rice, and broccoli. The chicken was actually very small, but also very well prepared and delicious. I also ordered the seasoned salmon dish and it actually happens to be the best salmon dish I've ever had. The staff are informative, professional, and mostly kind. Minus Ruth. read more

Short and not so sweet... I'd rather go to an urgent care than this hospital. I visited a friend and the place was deserted. This happened several times and at different times. No one at the info desk, no one at nurses' stations... no assistance anywhere. Although this is a pretty hospital, with its fountains, marble, and mosaic floors - I was disappointed at the level of care my friend received. Most of the nurses were disgruntled, they complained to me about their short staff issues (unprofessional), and gave other excuses as to why she was being neglected. They hadn't changed her bedding in 3 days until I insisted. After pulling a "Terms of Endearment " re-enactment, they upped their attention to my friend's care, and one nurse in particular hustled and got things done (her IV had been empty for 4 hours!) but no one should have to be distraught when recovering in a place that's supposed to be a caring facility. This was the best experience I have EVER had at an emergency center. My girlfriend was checked in, and less than 15 minutes later she was getting blood work done and an IV set up for her. My wife was at saint francis for severe pain in her right side of her back and she was having tremors and shakes for ten or more minutes at a time on and off. UA revealed a raging kidney infection and severe swelling of her kidney. My wife was not seen by ANY licensed MD, only a nurse practitioner. This may be normal practice when you accept dozens more patients than you have resources for, but an MD MUST oversee the patients chart. This was NOT the case at Saint Francis and as a result My wife was left in pain as the strongest medicine an NP can prescribe is not nearly enough for kidney pain! Even worse is the fact my wife was sent home before a culture was done and the infection spread to both kidneys!!! Gross negligence at best, total incompetence more accurate. read more

One of the worst hospitals my mother and I have ever been too. She was a double amputee of the legs and needed a catheter well the lady forgot to deflate it and pulled it out and my mom screamed. My mom was also told by a nurse that she didn't need her pain meds that she was addicted to them. Then while I was there for a gall bladder I was being sent home the nurse didn't see anything on the computer, I see alot of huge balls on the computer when she showed it to a doctor i was rushed back before my mom arrived to cut 10 huge stones out of me and my gallbladder. As I woke from my surgery I was still alittle out of it but I really needed to pee your nurses all started laughing calling me fat and saying if she has to poop I'm not doing it. I started screaming and crying because I was scared what would happen so I took the bed pain and peed myself and told them that it wasn't as hard. As they continued to talk about me I started screaming asking for my glasses someone ran out and got them when they finally found out I heard them they apologized this was in 2008 and yes my mom said something to them. Next 2013 march I have asthma and its on my papers and I was giving birth and pushing the nurses were having a attitude and wasn't helping much i asked for oxygen they have me it for 2 minutes and took it away and I still couldn't breath i asked for it again and they said we dont have time for this you dont need the oxygen. My obgyn didn't bother to show up until the nurses decided I needed a csection my obgyn had to go out to dinner with her daughter i am giving birth you come and say hi and nothing else. I had a man come in and take over i told the nurses just give me the csection so I can get this over with. The nurses in the csection wasnt helping and all I heard from the doctor was if your not gonna help then get the hell out of my operating room. My csection got infected and busted open and none of the obgyn knew how to treat me and told me i dont usually do wound care on plus size people. Lucky I did my mom wound care so I packed 2 open wounds and killed the infection myself. I dont recommend this place at all. read more

They took me in immediately and treated me with the best care. Hospital was clean. First of all, this is the absolute cleanest, most beautiful hospital I have ever seen. Had surgery done here a few days ago. Everything was handled with the utmost care and professionalism. I've had surgery elsewhere, and everything was so rushed. Here I felt I was treated like a person instead of a number. The entire surgical staff came into the prep room and introduced themselves. They made sure I was comfortable and answered any questions I had. I usually go to the VA medical center(Hunter-Holmes McGuire). The level of care and compassion I received at St. Francis was well beyond any experience I've ever had at the VA. I am so glad I chose this hospital to do the surgery. I went to the E.R. for after cutting my thumb open with a circular saw. Checked in at the front desk, then 30 mins later someone checked my vitals. Afterward I waited in the lobby 2 hours. Then I was escorted back into the E.R. to sit in the hallway on a gurny for another 30 mins before I received an xray. After which I then waited another hour and fifteen minutes to be stitched up by the nurse practitioner. Then finally easily waiting another 30 minutes for a nurse to put some gauze on my thumb and discharge me. The nurses and doctors seem quite skilled. However the division of labor/duties and the overall management of the resources seems lacking. Many health care professionals were just sitting around shooting the bull with each other when the E.R. was full. Seems St. Francis E.R. has lost their sense of service quality and an effective leader. read more

I was seen today by Mr Timothy Hartzler, Nurse Practitioner, at the Gastrointestinal Practice in the Main building in Room 505 on the 5th Floor. The receptionist, Diamond, was professional& efficient. Mr Hartzler listened to my complaint patiently & with interest & then examined me. They almost killed my husband a year ago. He has a bleeding disorder and the nurses pumped him full of blood thinners. He needed fluid pulled out of a port in his abdomen. The docs said they didn't have anyone qualified to do that there..... oncologists deal with ports on a daily basis! The nurses we had in the ER (minus one, Wendy M. RN is fabulous) do not listen to their patients. The doctors are not communicating with one another. I wouldn't send my worst enemy here. Night shift Jessica, RN needs a refresher course on patient care and communicating to patient's in severe discomfort and being an active listener. A little compassion wouldn't hurt either. I would give this facility a negative star if I could. I was seen there for a pain issue and they made me put on a neck brace and I told them I was nauseous and a 10/10 for pain. All they offered was Zofran and everything for pain that was on my allergy list. Then they say they can't give me anything but there are pain medications that they can give there to take care of the breakthrough pain but refuse to because they want to label everyone a drug seeker because of the opioid crisis. Well one or two shots for pain or nausea does not get you addicted. It's the doctors that prescribe 20-30 pain pills over and over to patients. Then when you give them another alternative they freak out and don't want to do that either even though it's for pain and is not a narcotic or opioid. That drug is low dose Ketamine. Won't be back. Everyone was absolutely awful to me. read more

I delivered my son at this place in April 2021 . All around horrible experience with the exception of good nurses like Danielle and Claire . After having my son 24 hours later I almost died . No one checked on me after delivery. I went into severe preeclampsia . I credit Dr. Robert Thompson for acting quickly and thoroughly in my case so he saved my life . And oh my goodness lactation was a joke . They never helped me with getting my son to latch so I'm stuck pumping . I'll be following a lawsuit against the hospital for the damage they caused my leg so now more stress is added from this horrible hospital . Do not deliver your babies here ! read more

My first time ever coming to this hospital and the last time ever coming to this house I legally cannot walk I fell down stairs I come to this hospital the doctor gives me two injections in my back since me home and gives me information about how our non-emergency fire department to help me back up system apartment you were for my information over to another to encompass and some of the two other places and that's not what I needed this time I was seeking help to go to a skilled nursing facility or rehab and the only thing I got was two shots in my back some Tylenol and you have a great day this. My sister visited there last week via rescue squad into the ER and was treated immediately and then admitted. She has been given the best attention and offered several specialist to deal with her cardiac issue. The staff has been incredible and they are currently working to restore her heath so as to do another procedure when she is able. Most of the nursing staff were attentive and compassionate and kind (those that were not know who they are). The setting is beautiful and one of peaceful prayer and reflection. Every evening there is a prayer/meditation that is broadcasted over the speakers which is a Godsend to patients and families. The doctors seem to REALLY CARE ABOUT THE OUTCOME OF THE PATIENT. I especially want to mention Dr. Robert Omuria, Hospitalist, who went above and beyond in helping our family understanding my sister's condition and the steps moving forward. read more

I had to go here and have a MRI run on my left knee. When I arrived at the check in desk all I had to do was sign a couple of papers, and pay my copay. Then with in 15 mins they had me back there getting me all set up. About 20 mins later I was done now that ain't bad. Now all of this was scheduled mind you, so I can not speak of how it would be other wise. And all the techs were great and very friendly. I just hope I don't have to see them anytime soon. read more

I thought this was a great hospital until yesterday. My 73 year old mother was coming home from the hospital after being on the 4th floor of St. Francis I was getting her transported to our home with the help of a transportation service. On Monday I took her clothes to the hospital for when she comes home. She came home yesterday and she had only her hospital gown on with no undergarments so her body was FULLY espoused!!! My mother has a on set of dementia and she can not hold her urine or feces. I left 2 pull ups there for her and they did not think about putting her clothes on or her pull up. Needless to say when she gets home she defecated all over herself. Not only that she was cold even though it was 82 degrees yesterday. They had no blanket or anything wrapped around her. Wow for a place in this area and the meaning of it it sure does not know how to take care of the elderly. I am so so so DISAPPOINTED!!! read more

There are too many horrible reasons to list but if you value your life and the life of your loved ones, drive to Johnston Willis or Chippenham. The extra few minutes in an ambulance or car might spare you years of grief. This hospital kills people and then lies about. It is a gorgeous building that was built to be impressive, but does not serve its patients. Even routine procedures that have good results are conducted very poorly at this hospital. For example their surgical center does not have private rooms and pre-op patients are in a hallway like setting for hours with a curtain separating them from others. In Johnston Willis, you are in a private room with a heated bed. If a doctor needs to make a minor adjustment during a process here, she might not have the necessary equipment because this hospital is so small and minimally equipped. These are inconveniences. But poor quality can result in life altering implications or death. And recently that has happened twice that I know of. Someone needs to investigate this hospital. Especially how they care for elderly patients. I believe they treat them as expendable. Please stay away. read more

St Francis is a great hospital. I've visited the ER several times since they opened years ago. The wait time was very good and checking in was easy. The staff were all very attentive and caring. Most people forget that they are not alone in the ER and that other more critical patients will be served first based on many factors. The doctors there listened and asked great questions and took their time with me. I've also had a operation there as well. The key to a trouble free stay is checking with your insurance FIRST and understanding your benefits and cost expectations. Pre Admission was efficient and trouble free. Check in on the day of was easy. There is are comfortable waiting areas, Wifi and the cafeteria. The food was good. The room was well appointed and the nurses very attentive. I would recommend St Francis to my friends. Of course everyone's interpretation of the experience is different as well as expectations. And each situation is unique upon itself. read more

The nurse was super nice, but that was the only positive. Receptionist had an attitude, there was no where to sit, the waiting time was super long, and staff was slow and unconcerned. Took my 5 year old son to the ER and we waited an hour and a half as he dripped blood with a potential concussion, standing the entire time. On Monday I called, asked for 'reading' (Physc notes) also on disc, no, look on computer at home (MyChart). Asked for paper copy on arrival, no, on MyChart. Now, still 2 weeks later, still no reading on MyChart. An IT type called me and said I had looked at it, I said it was empty, and eventually they said it was programmed to NOT display my test. read more
