**Review for St. Ignace KOA: Mixed Experience, but Fantastic Staff** We recently stayed at the St. Ignace KOA in Michigan, and while our experience had its ups and downs, the standout feature was definitely the incredible staff. First and foremost, a big shoutout to Rhonda at the front desk! From the moment we walked in, she was nothing but professional, kind, and informative. Rhonda took the time to explain the KOA benefits to us, and no matter what we needed, she was always there to help without making us feel like an inconvenience. I even sent my husband to see Rhonda when he went to pick up some KOA t-shirts because I knew she'd take good care of him. Another highlight was Angie, who organized the tie-dye activity. She was super friendly and made sure everyone, even those who had never done it before, had a great time. Angie had everything set up perfectly and went above and beyond to make the activity extra fun with her exceptional personality. Steve was another favorite during our stay. My husband especially appreciated his friendly demeanor and helpfulness. Whether we needed assistance or advice on local activities, sites, and restaurants, Steve was always ready with a smile and some great tips. People like him really make your trip memorable. However, we were disappointed by a few aspects of the campground. There weren't many activities, and we especially missed having a pool. It also didn't seem very kid-friendly. The miniature golf course, in particular, needs some serious work--there were spots where the grass was bubbled up, making it impossible to play straight, and other areas were so worn out that it was down to the wood. This made it tough to enjoy. Another small gripe was the trash situation. We're used to having our trash picked up at our campsite by 5:00 p.m., but at this KOA, we had to take it to a big trash bin ourselves. While it's not a huge deal, it's a nice touch that we missed. Overall, while the campground itself could use some improvements, the amazing staff at St. Ignace KOA, particularly Rhonda, Angie, and Steve, made our stay much more enjoyable. We booked a water/electric before reading reviews and went in with low expectations, which is far better than reading great reviews, going in with high expectations and ultimately being let down The Cons: Mosquitoes- they came hungry... by the billions... and they had serious body mass. The tops of my poor feet look like I have pox. I didn't dock stars for mother nature being so cruel. Also looks like landscaping is still in progress but it definitely appears to be going the right direction. Our power connection left us hanging out waaay too far into the street, with the water on the opposite side (shared) needing a 75ft hose - not the most ideal layout & that wasn't true of all spots. Granted, it really opened up the front space. Not all amenities were up & running- no wifi yet (we didn't need it), only 1 pool open (with nobody in it, so no loss there) & hot tub not open. The Pros: Excellent Communication! We received texts for events, (including the rescheduled fireworks), firewood sales/delivery, closing times & check out reminders. Large camping spots - (tho, again, not all were laid out ideally) with HUGE fire rings, grassy spots, large/ low-maintenance tables. No need to like the neighbors- you won't be sharing your space. Free Ferry Shuttle Friendly/Accommodating Staff Location, Location, Location While other properties have more ammenities, this one felt more organized and, as we had no kids with us, this was a great fit. This is a beautiful campground that is quiet even when full. It is very close to the ferries that travel to Mackinac Island every half hour. There is even a SHELPER's Ferry bus shuttle that will take/pick up at the KOA office ! They were very accommodating. You can also buy ferry tickets at the campground office. There are 145 camping sites plus cabins to rent. Many of the sites have nice cement patio pads with a table, chairs and a 2-seater rocker. There are birch and other mature trees everywhere. Even a 40' rig with a pull through need is available. The bathrooms are clean with nice showers. The only recommendation I would have is to put a grab bar in the ADA shower for a little more safety. Some of the amenities are a laundry room with at least 8 washers/dryers that is open 24 hours; miniature golf; jumping pillow that kids were having a blast on; corn hole, volleyball area; basketball hoops; dump station;playground; pool table; food truck that will cook you breakfast and deliver it to you! The staff is friendly and helpful. There's a grocery store within 2 miles and a few good places in town to eat. We highly recommend this campground! read more

I like the location because it's convenient to Mackinac island and as a starting point to the Soux. The campground could use a little love. Yes it has the electric hookups and pull throughs, water etc... but it's missing grass and the facilities are not tip-top. Camp sites are mostly dirt and gravel with a few weeds. The fenced pet run is small and they didn't empty the poop trash, overfull until we asked. Gross. The shower rooms are in poor repair, with broken fixtures and not well managed. I'd avoid this spot because there are many better choices nearby. After 5 days we made arrangements to move on and they wouldn't refund any of our money... Because of the great location, The place is very busy and has many large self contained rigs, very few tent campers. read more

This place is nice for camping. We tent camped and I would give it more than three stars if it looked like they hadn't shoved our spot in for more money. The front tent spaces are wayy nicer than the back spots. They are very nice though and you just have to text if you need things to your site. The bathrooms are nice and if you have an rv there are nice patio spots. Mini golf seemed to be really popular. We just stayed here while we did things in the area. Campground overall is fine. There is a real lack of showering facilities and 1 of the dump stations was out of service. There's a lot for kids to do but no pool which is surprising. Sites are dirt and gravel but overall level. Cost isn't bad but we most likely won't come back. read more

My family stayed in one of the basic cabins in the back of the campground. It sleeps four and includes a microwave, mini fridge, and TV. Outside you have your own campfire ring, charcoal grill, picnic table, and porch swing. The bathrooms were clean. My family enjoyed the mini golf. They also have an outdoor pool, although we did not use it. The only downside was that the Wi-Fi didn't quite reach the back of the campground. This property obviously gotten a bad reputation in the past. However, it is apparent that they are making improvements to the site and they are noticeable improvements. Like many KOA's the sites are close together and often off a main road so there can be more noise then a secluded park. However, the staff was friendly and helpful which is always important when traveling with kids. My only complaint would be that the sewer hook up in our site ran slightly up hill, which is a little bit of an issue but not unmanageable. There was a bit of separation between the sewer drop and the electric pedestal as well, so if we wanted to pull up to make the drop more usable like it should be we would have had to attach an electric extension - again manageable but not something you may not expect before arrival. read more

As new 5th wheel owners, this was just the 2nd campground we had ever been to since we bought our rig. Seeing how we have a 42' camper, we reserved a pull through space large enough to accomodate us. We were given spot 20. The spot was nice, however because of all the trees we could not put our awning out and when we walked out our door, there was a tree right in the way. This tree was dropping berries, which we and our dogs kept tracking into the camper. If we are back this way again, we will try to get one of the spots just down from us that had no trees. The dog walking area was okay. We walked to it a few times a day with our dogs, and dutifully cleaned up after them, although there was always poo left in there that someone didn't clean up. The poo disposal can was not emptied the whole time we were there and by the last day, the stench when you lifted the lid was unbearable. Otherwise as new campers, we were pretty happy with our stay. Loved that they are big rig friendly. The spots are a little uneven but other than what I already mentioned, not too bad. read more

We love KOA and the St Ignace campground is one of our favorites. Lynette and her staff are wonderful. The removed the swimming pool but we didn't even miss it!!! The jumping pillow, ladder golf and corn hole are great additions... We can't wait for the basketball court, they have added more cabins as well. The FREE putt putt is one of our favorites activities. It is a wonderful campground and the staff is very very friendly. The campground is very clean, great laundry room and clean showers. It's not as bad as everyone is saying. At least not for us. Had a nice shaded spot in the back. They are waiting on more picnic tables, so they tell you, first come first serve. So we took one from an empty spot. Very quiet and nice to be in the woods. The back bathrooms need love. Two of the faucets don't work. What took it down to three stars was the dump station. Only one and it was full. Took forever to dump, need to call a septic guy and get that fixed. But besides that we enjoyed it. read more

This only gets a 1 Star because you can't give it lower. This was a disaster! We booked 3 months ahead of Memorial Day weekend and arrived to only 1 restroom open for the entire campground to share. The line was ridiculous!! It was completely unsanitary, people were going in their yards because there were always lines. We had to keep leaving and going to the McDonald's down the road. The shower stalls and toilets were sitting outside the second building of restrooms in the middle of the campground. The showers and restrooms up front were in shambles. You could hear people talking in the office like they were standing next to you. They didn't seem to be the least bit concerned with getting it taken care of quickly. Looks like they were trying to do the work themselves when they get around to it. We were so grossed out after two days, we couldn't even stay our third night - and it was already paid for! I complained the next morning when we came back to check out and the girl couldn't have cared less. She tilted her head in a confused way when I told her that the stay was awful after she asked how it was. I recounted everything to her, told her how unsanitary it was and that we couldn't bear to stay the last night and had to move to a hotel for a decent shower and toilets. Pool was empty too, but not sure I'd want to swim in it after seeing how they take care of everything else. Told her I was upset we had to pay full price for those conditions. She didn't care and didn't offer any type of refund. She instead offered me a free bundle of wood for my troubles Never Again!! That was our first and last time at a KOA!! I can accept a lot of things, but missing bathrooms and making an entire campground share 1 during one of the biggest camping weekends of the year is not one of them. Unacceptable! At least get some port-a-potties in there. read more

After a long day of driving, we called front desk to a friendly gal who said they were closing the office in 10 mins.... Ok it's only 4:50pm I'm thinking. They offered a pet friendly cabin in quiet area for 2 nights at 61.00 a night with NO extra pet fee for our 4 lb chihuahua. After asking several questions like local places to eat, room to park uhaul, ect..., we did our reservation over the phone while still 1 hr away from campground. She left an envelope with key, local attractions brochures. Cabin has 1 queen and 1 set of bunks with thin, uncomfortable foam pads. We actually brought our blow up mattresses in cabin for a better nights sleep. It's early season for campground so only a few folks here. Very quiet UNTIL a car or trucker whizzes by on the hey just 300 yards away. Loud and ought to be interesting to sleep. Bathrooms clean, in decent shape as I will shower before morning trip to Mackinaw Island. It says there is a free transport to ferry terminal on outside of building. Pool empty and bring repaired, playground and putt putt golf need attention and updating. Wifi is weak at best. Not a bad place if you have earplugs for the road noise.... read more

We thoroughly enjoyed our time at the St. Ignace KOA. The most impressive was the kind, friendly and attentive staff. Just text the office and your issue will be addressed. If you need wood, sewage drained or trouble-shooting cable/WiFi, you will get a response and service with a smile and kind word. We were surprised that a free shuttle was offered to go to Mackinac Island, which was wonderful. All services were acceptable including showers and bathrooms. DUMP = this KOA! ! Old, poorly tended facility...but worse than that...They DO NOT CLEAN!!!. Bathrooms are filthy with dirty floors and trashcans overflowing. I was here for 4 days and I saw no one clean them. The firepit was filled with the prior people's trash when we arrived, the trash bins are full of days of trash. There is absolutely No activities for youth or families. .only a pool. I have been at many KOA campsites and a member for years...this is bad. The only reason I gave them a star at all is the pool is clean and the area shuttles to the casino and ferry to Mackinaw island were helpful. They say they are now under new management. ..but they have a long recovery ahead of them! read more

Meh. Could have been worse but could have been a lot nicer/better as well. They are trying to make improvements, according to management. However, I feel like in the process of making said improvements, they should lower their prices to reflect that. It was just as expensive as other KOA's we've stayed at and the care of the facility was no where near up to standard as the more expensive KOA's. The pool was closed when we were there due to what we were told was a dirty diaper. However, after reading other reviews, it seems like the pool always has some sort of an issue going on. Bring your shower shoes. The bathrooms and showers are pretty nasty. The shower walls had mold on them and the tile was cracked everywhere. The biggest issue in my opinion was the uneven campsites. And by uneven, I mean trip and fall and kill yourself in the middle of the night, uneven. I was constantly having to worry about our kids tripping and falling. We had an RV site and there were trenches and large "hills" all around it. This campground has SO much potential, given it's location. However, I feel like the new owners are in over their heads a bit with how much work needs to be done to get it up to KOA standards. read more

Looking to get bed bugs?? This is a great place to get them. Stayed in a cabin and got bit badly all over my arms and neck. I even got bites on my earlobe, temple, stomach, and a couple on my upper leg! I've tried to make contact with the KOA but I have not received a response. I just want them to fix it so others don't have to be miserably itchy and potentially bring them back to their house with them. read more

88 degrees and the power went out 2 hours after we checked in. They did not expect it to come back for days. We ended up paying for a hotel. Most expensive camping trip ever and we didn't even get to camp. If they can get things worked out it will be a nice campground but at the moment it still has a lot of problems. Almost forgot. Even before the power problem, the water is shared water from the site on the wrong side of the camper (normal hose plus extension just barely made it) and the sewer hookup is WAY to far forward on the site. The appropriate thing to do would be to warn us about the water and ask if we a loaner extension. read more

We generally avoid KoAs, which tend to be crowded and full of kids. This one was not, since we stayed at the tail end of the season. However, its location, on a major road leading from the Bridge into the UP, meant there was constant traffic noise. And the bathhouse needs a major deep cleaning - floor was grungy, especially around the edges, and the toilet stall doors had perhaps never been scrubbed on the inside! Sit where your visitors sit, cleaning people, and see what we see! I hope the end of the season will result in some serious cleaning. Since we'd not camped in the area before, we opted for one of the chain parks, but now I know -- there are hundreds of interesting campgrounds in better locations within miles of this place. Next time, we'll try one of them. read more

They were oh so friendly at checkin. Saying whatever we need, just send an email. Not so. We needed propane so sent an email but were told to bring it up ourselves as opposed to them grabbing in in the golf cart and filling it like many parks do. On our last morning we were so hemmed in by vehicles we had to wait until some left. While waiting were rudely told to get going. Stayed here on car show weekend in one of their Kabins. The first one that they assigned to us had carpenter ants eating holes in the ceiling above the beds. The second one was better, just as dirty as the first, but no ants. Be aware, this place seems to be a magnet for drunken idiots on car show weekends. By the way, to get one of their wonderful Kabins for car show weekend, we had to reserve a full year in advance, and pay in full one year in advance. Of course no refunds for drunken noisy neighbors. Don't stay here! We came here for 4th of July. Everything seemed ok at check in. The pool was closed for repairs but they had free mini golf. Our spot was shady and easy to get in to. Then the power went out. Ok we thought, it won't be off for long. We hung out for an hour or so and then went into town. We came back and still no power. Now, I get that people tent camp without power all the time and that's great but we don't and we weren't prepared for no power. No lanterns, no battery powered anything. Plus my husband has a sleep apnea machine that needs power. We decided to stick it out and got ready for bed. I washed up in the ladies room by the office (it had power). It was obviously in need of maintenance and updates but it was ok. It was full of mosquitoes though and I still feel like I have them in my hair. My son took a shower and said the curtain rod fell down and hit him in the head. It was still so hot and we decided we wouldn't be able to stay for the night. Around that time an employee came by and asked if we knew the power was out. No! We had no idea! We called around to other campgrounds and of course they were all booked. Thankfully we found a hotel that was pet friendly. We came back the next day and the power was still out. My husband asked and they said that the power company was having trouble finding a new transformer (???) and even once they get one it would be a few more days before power was back. So for the rest of our trip. The sites in the back of the campground had power but they said they've had trouble with it and they occasionally lose power. We called the hotel back and they were able to get us a room for the rest of the trip. And, they have plenty of parking for our camper. Thank goodness. So we check out of the campground and cancel our reservation and the lady starts calculating our charges. Uh, don't think so! We'd just spent $160 at a hotel because we couldn't stay at our campsite. I know the power outage isn't their fault but we're not paying for a site that we only used for a few hours. She did agree to waive the charges eventually. For anyone thinking of staying here, I'd give it a year. It's under new ownership and they have a lot of things to work out, especially power. Hopefully they can get it straightened out. read more

This place would be perfectly fine if you were paying budget rate non KOA pricing. For a KOA it is abysmal. Mini golf was fine- but only because its free. Ancient park by the dump station was horrid. Park by shuttered pool was acceptable for a non commercial backyard play set from menards. Wi fi is non existent. Sites laid out weird- our fire pit was 10 foot from neighbors- electric was halfway into the site on our other side. Luckily we have our own restroom and did not need to even walk in theirs. Absolutely no activities, grass has obviously not been cut in weeks Dog park is just an open space with a sign to clean up after your dog. The cherry on top? This outdated poorly maintained facility is located right next to a sewer lagoon. They have the potential to make up for the poor facilities with great customer service- but they choose not too. DELUXE CABINS: don't waste your money! In the middle of COVID-19, you would expect this place to be clean. The floor was so dirty our bare feet were black, there were no pots or pans or utensils, the beds still had stuff from former guests underneath, and there was no soap. After complaining to the OWNER, we received pots and pans, but she was still extremely rude every time we had to go to the main desk. Don't waste your money - stay somewhere else instead! We have stayed at approximately 15 KOA Deluxe Cabins, and this was by far the worst one (in regards to cleanliness, staff, and amenities). read more

It was an okay base to stay, but none of the updates they said were done were true (no updated bathroom or pool), and the sites were small and not very nice (lots of holes, not mowed and terrible fire pits). The pool was very disgusting and looked like it hadn't been updated since it was installed in the 70s. The positives were they were very nice and it was a quiet spot to stay. Good riding for kids on bikes. We won't be going to this campground again. It was our first, and possibly last, KOA. read more

So, this campground is under new management/ownership and what they inherited was a mess. However they are putting lots of time and effort into this property and the big thing is $. We are dependent on the bathhouse as we are pulling a pop up camper with our motorcycle. The back bathhouse is in line for upgrades and even had the new showers sitting behind building for installation. Bathrooms served the purpose but were not new and the showers showed it. We were able to shower but found the little extra walk to the front bathhouse was worth it. I'm sure once the new showers are installed it will improve greatly. Campsite was nice and level and shaded. A screen door would be so nice on bathrooms to keep mosquitos out. Pool was closed and look like it will be for rest of season. Old owners didn't maintain. Overall a nice campground and currently a work in progress we wouldn't hesitate to return. On a final note the laundry facility was clean and we used it. read more

This had to be the worst example of an KOA campground I've visited, this place is a disaster. Bad camp sites, the internet doesn't work, the putt putt golf looks 50 years old, you can't use the pool, there needs to be more lighting ,the sites are too close together and on a hill, the grass is in poor condition, the sites have to share water and electric, I could go on , KOA should take more pride in the sites that have there name.I understand you are working the grounds, but thats no excuse. From what I understand this has been a KOA site for quite some time, this should be in far better condition . Needless to say I won't camp at this site again. You shouldn't charge people for all the normal KOA amenities and only half to none of them are useable. read more

This location is great and so close to Mackinac Island. I stayed in a 2-room wooded cabin, and it was in tiptop condition. There were so many great amenities such a pool, dog park, and mini-golf course. I've never been to a location with a mini-golf course, so that was a cool added bonus. The staff are nice and accommodating. I stayed a few years ago and the place was pretty rundown, but they have really made some great visible changes. I got to speak with the new owners (friendly people by the way!), and they said they are continuously working to renovate and revamp the campground. We stayed for a week at this campground. It was very clean and well managed, we never had to wait to use the very clean showers or restrooms and selected a back-in site for our pop-up camper. The pool was great. The location was ideal being just west of St. Ignace and near the Hiawatha National Forest with the mult-mile long beach on US-2. Be sure to check out the pasty shop in the General Store just off the exit on US-2 heading towards the KOA. read more

Before getting here we went to Mill Creek campground in Mackinaw City. It is a huge place, but because of massive rainfall we decided to stay in a cabin. Unfortunately none were available. Beside that you cannot have a pet in their cabins. I used KOA in past and always had a great experience. It was not different this time. It is located about 2 miles west of expressway. They had few cabins left and the most important for us, pets are welcomed even in cabins. We rented the smallest one with 2 bunk beds and a double one, located in the woods with porch and an awesome swing! Paid $60/night. You can expect clean showers and restrooms. My only complain is poor and slow internet. Owners are very kind people. Thank you! read more

This koa does not meet koa standards. We paid premium pricing expecting a well maintained campground, and we got a campground with a pool that didn't work (after the website showed a gorgeous pool for the kids to swim in), they actually closed it down for the whole summer but never updated their website to tell us this. The grounds aren't taken care of, lots of weeds and not flowers where flower beds used to be. A mini golf course that looks like it hasn't been updated in at least a couple decades. The wi-fi was completely useless if you could even get it to connect. It was just disappointing to pay the price of a nice campground, and get a cheap park feel. If not maintenance and good wifi, where is the money going? They did let us use mini golf course unlimited times for free since the pool was down, and my kids were happy for that, on the plus side. And the lady that worked the front desk was very nice. read more

Very disappointed with this KOA. Not in good repair. Just arrived from long drive went to use dump station on arrival from prior stay and it was clogged. Disgusting! We checked in only to find a tree in the middle of our site 107. We complained and explained that it was impossible to get our 35 ft 5th wheel into site. They moved us only to find that site 96 had no power hookup. Great! Manager came out to tell us take it or leave it. My wife and I tried to cram into 107. No way to back it in. We finally went and got our money refunded. Manager was not very professional. Place is not very efficiently run. Good luck if you have to use their one and only dump station. read more

Ok. Where do I start... We have camped with this koa since 5 years ago almost every weekend before the new owners. We called last week to make reservations for Friday June 29 and Saturday June 30 so we can be down with my sons band to run sound. I wrote the dates down as my wife and her were speaking on speaker phone. They gave us a open lot that they had a cancelation for.. We confirmed it. We wrote it down. Then they called us back saying they made a mistake and put us in another lot, again making a verbal confirmation that we were Friday and Saturday. So we wrote it down. Next thing I know. They call my wife and said and I quote "why didn't you show up yesterday "Thursday" We had said to them "our reservation is Friday and Saturday". She said they emailed us that it was Thursday and Friday. Going back to check our email there's two separate emails one saying Monday through Wednesday and another saying Thursday and Friday. Now everybody makes mistakes and it is their mistake. Because when they realize their campground is full they change their dates on us to Thursday and Friday so that they could cancel us. And keep my money. We asked them to refund our money and they said "no!" that it was our mistake, when clearly it was their mistake we have written proof at home that it was their mistake so they charge my card for $40 and kept it. I asked her to give me a credit on my card because this is their mistake and her exact words were "that's not how this works you didn't show up for your reservation".... When we clearly expected a reservation to be Friday and Saturday. When I asked her to speak to her boss she said "I am the boss". I said then you can credit my card she said that's not how this works, I can credit your card but I won't. When I asked her to give it back she said no when I told her that she would get a negative review on Facebook she told me she doesn't except threats. Then she hung up the phone on me. Honestly I'm my opinion when a business makes a mistake they should correct it but obviously they don't and that makes them a bad business. I would be very leery if I was anyone giving them your credit card number.
