I called St John Dental, and they got me in right away, which was a huge relief! From the moment I walked in, the front desk staff was welcoming and efficient with the check-in process. About 18+ years ago I experienced a very traumatic dental encounter going in to get some minor dental work. I had an impacted wisdom tooth that hadn't come through the gun line and was infected due to the impaction. Without getting into the major details of it all, I ended up leaving that dental office in an ambulance loosing God only knows how much blood and 3 liters of blood at the hospital. That dentist severed my artery in my mouth and almost died from that experience. Needless to say the details and trauma have stayed with me over the years. Fast forward to 2023, I'm a bit older and have learned to adapt to a small degree to maintain the health of my mouth. I was referred to St John Dental in Azusa and couldn't be more happy. The Dr is straight forward about his work and gets it done. He has lovely staff and clearly isn't doing to make as much money as possible like some in the industry. I was able to endure some work like a champ and credit his staff as well as the dentist for assisting me through that process. Not only did they do a great job on my work but are helping me work through, what is a stain of insecurity and PTSD from that past experience. I would absolutely encourage you if you're reading this and need dental work, to put your trust in this office as they're going to make sure you're comfortable and in the know about what they're doing. Upon arriving to my appointment I was greeted by the dental assistant Karen. Her professional customer service skills are great. I went in for a root canal, cavity filling, and a cleaning. I am one who is very nervous when it comes to shots. Doctor Hanna has a very light hand and he also made sure I was numb prior to the shots. He did a great job and the best part I did not feel a lot of pain the next day a little sore but that is it. I recently got a root canal at another office and my insurance changed so I had to find a new dentist to take care of my crown on that tooth. During my search I read a lot of scary reviews about other dentists ranging from bad craftsmanship, to unnecessary procedures, and even some that were billing insurance companies for work that was never performed. It can be difficult to find a good, honest dentist on an HMO plan and I'm grateful to have found Dr. Hana. He was upfront about pricing and explained why some of the charges were different than what I was expecting and made sure that I understood so that I didn't feel taken advantage of. He didn't try to upsell me on anything, but he did offer me options that were reasonable for materials that would last longer. I had done some research before arriving and looked up some of the information he gave me while I was there and it all checked out, so I opted for the more expensive material. He was also able to help me out with scheduling. For a crown, first you get your tooth shaved down and a mold is made for the new cap. The mold has to be sent to a lab, they create the crown, and it is sent back to the dentist. I was in a weird predicament because my insurance is set to change again in 2 weeks and unfortunately I will be out of network for Dr. Hana (long story). That coupled with my work schedule made it difficult to set the next appointment to install the finished crown. As a fix, he was able to get the lab to approve a rush job for me to accommodate our timeline. For this I am immensely grateful because if we weren't able to work it out I would have had to wait another 2 weeks and start from the beginning with a new dentist. Also, I grind in my sleep so it's more important to have my crown installed sooner than later because the risk is higher that I will damage the temporary. When we started the procedure he let me know what he was going to do, made sure that I knew how to let him know if I felt any pain (by raising my hand), and checked in on me throughout the procedure to make sure that I was feeling ok. I tend to get nervous around dentists so I appreciated his bedside manner. I would also like to add that everyone at his office deserves a mention here. Behind every good dentist is a good crew. Dena was fantastic and helped me with my x-rays, assisted Dr. Hana during the procedure and making the molds, and helped me pick out a color for my new crown. She probably spent more time with me yesterday than anyone else and I really appreciate her company. Karen greeted me at the front desk, helped me figure out insurance stuff, and answered a couple of questions on a phone call that I thought of after I left. Super helpful! I travel for work. I'm in a different city every week. I came in for a consult with x-ray on Wednesday, it only cost $50. The hygienist recommended a visit with Dr. Hana the next day. I have no insurance, and Dr. Hana was able to fill cavities on three of my teeth as well as do a root canal all on the same day. I will come back at the end of my work season to have him finish repairing my front teeth. The price was very reasonable for paying cash with no insurance. Best costumer service EVER! So I called with a pain in my tooth and Karen ( sweetest girl ever) answered my phone call. I explained to her how I had a tooth that was hurting and she immediately schedualed me for the end of the week just so I can have a spot, however she worked her magic and gave me availability for the following day. She asked me for my insurance information and asked me of I had HMO or PPO. I explained to Karen that this is the first time I have had insurance and I didn't know what that meant. She was so kind to check for me. Prior to calling this place I had called another and they told me I had to check myself and they so rude. Karen took care of everything. When I arrived with my fiance, Mariet was at the front desk. She was so kind and friendly. It wasnt long after I arrived that they called me in so wait time was pretty great. Jose took my xrays and was being so gentle and made me feel comfortable. Now when it came time for me to see the dentist, BEST DENTIST EVER! He was so sweet and honest! He explained to me that I needed a root canal and deep cleaning however he also explained that he was going to help out with the insurance as much as he could. He worked his magic and I was extremely happy with the results. I was there for 5 hours and the poor guy didn't even take a brake. The location of this office is small and cozy. The staff js actually pretty friendly specially the dentist assistant. She was very nice and made my boys feel comfortable . Dr. Hana said do u have time? If so we can get it done now. ..it was amazing. Got everything done in one visit. And he said everything would be covered by my medi-cal which was even better.
