This is one of our favorite places for lunch, a quick dinner or just to come for drinks. The space is nice and cozy without being closed in. Lots of space for social distancing if that's holding you back. The menu has everything from a huge pretzel, yummy soups, salads and great sandwiches that you can even get as a half and they are still plenty filling. The bar always has local brews along with all the favorite alcoholic drinks. Try the pineapple upside down shot - it's awesome!! I also prefer dark beers and I always have a choice here. Bathrooms are spotless and now that a parking area across the street is open, I can always find a place to park. We have eaten here several times when we are in Crystal River. I love their chili and always order a side of their in-house, homemade potato chips. In search for a brunch/lunch spot we stumbled upon Dt John's Tavern after a local recommended it to us. We had such a nice lunch!! From the outside looking in, it appeared to be closed, but looking closer it was open! You want to sit outside on the BACK PATIO for the beat experience, especially given COVID. There are a few parking spots (free for 2 hours) on the main road, but no actually parking lot designated for the tavern. Our waitress was so genuine and sweet!! She went above and beyond for us. I hope (for the restaurants sake), she stays here!! Their menu wasn't unique or expansive, but for a familiar lunch with quality ingredients, you'll be pleased. The menu was standard pub food; however, I really really enjoyed my BLT. The toast was nicely toasted, but not Texas toast it was advertised on the menu. It came with a mouth watering pickle and fresh homemade kettle chips. My boyfriend got the club sandwich and fries and was really impressed with both. The meat was Boar's head and the proportions are generous. We started with a cup of coffee, but next time I'd skip that, it wasn't too great. read more

What a gem! Went in on a Friday night and listened to live music. Staff was all so friendly and helpful. Helped recommend drink and food selections. They did not disappoint, had an Old Fashion and Margarita pizza. Was not just a drink but an experience. The pizza was gourmet and worth the trip by itself. We have been in Crystal River since this place opened. It has continued to make a steady decline. We will not be eating here in the future. Our appetizers took 30 minutes to hit the table. The pretzel was delicious but the rest of the appetizers were lacking. The potato skin was soggy and taste like it had been cooked in hamburger fat. The fried okra was not cooked all the way. Then our entrees took another 45 minutes. All of the French fries were served cold, the flat bread (which was comparable to a grocery store frozen pizza) was still cold in the center. The special, a grilled chicken sandwich was a small precooked frozen chicken breast that was not fully cooked, the summer salad had a southwest style seasoning on the chicken which did not go with the fruit. The balsamic dressing was extremely sour, and the portion was small. Their fresh brewed tea was terrible we let the waitress know and she still charged us for it. read more

The most despicable service I have encountered was at St John's Tavern. We walked in and no one greeted us. I wasn't sure if we were to sit on our own or be sat by a hostess. The waitress was clearing a table and saw us but said nothing. I then proceeded to ask the bartender who ignored us walking in as well, if we should seat ourselves. I was with my small service dog and the bartender informed me that we could not stay because of my dog and the owner would call the cops. I informed the bartender that this was illegal and he didn't seem to care. I waited for my friend and sister to use the bathroom and in the mean time the bartender spoke to my husband and pointed at me and said, "If your fucking wife and her dog do not leave within 5 minutes, I'm calling the cops." Unbelievable... We were shocked that the response to me walking in with a small service dog was so aggressive and that the staff was so ill informed of laws in Florida regarding people with disabilities. We have since made a claim to the Florida ADA about the incident. Also if you aren't a local, you will be treated like garbage. The patrons were also extremely rude and waved goodbye to us as we left. Pretty much this place has a rude staff with drunkard bar flies that belly up to the bar. Best to try a great place down the road called Cody's Roadhouse instead. They welcomed us and my service dog with open arms and the place is super cute! read more

Hand crafted potato chips. How fresh can you get with that? That's what blew me over my tough four star rating system. It's a brand new joint downtown where you can enjoy a good time at the bar or the tables. We had the bruschetta which was good. If anything, could use more bread to accompany the extra tomatoes left over. The BLT with chips was top notch using fresh bread from a local bakery. Atmosphere was great. Felt right at home and staff including manager checked with us to see if everything was ok. For the lunch hour, the place filled up quickly. read more

My husband and I stopped in for a late lunch (after 2 pm) on Valentine's Day to celebrate on a modest level for our wedding anniversary. We weren't overly hungry so ordered only sandwiches and I had a drink - rare for me. Service was fair and with a smile - but a little too slow well after the lunch rush was over. The drink was a little pricey - $7 - and our sandwich order was wrong when it came so it took another ten minutes to get back to our table. I had the BLT and my husband had the club sandwich, both came with potato chips freshly made. The interior is interesting, but I think the bar is understaffed. Only one bartender was preparing drinks and they could have used two. Another waitress couldn't hurt too. We probably won't return. read more

Stumbled upon this place and had to check it out the next day for dinner and we're happy we did. The aesthetic is awesome, classic and classy tavern/pub vibe that will stand the test of time. Solid beers on taps from your standard domestics to a couple of great micro-brews. Solid selection of cocktails too. I'm pregnant so I got to enjoy a couple of Shirley temples instead but I was envious of my husband who got to choose from 20 taps. Don't be concerned about the short menu: it's short because they do the things they have on the menu right, not because they're too basic. Ordered the chili and pretzel to start off. The pretzel was indeed giant, wish we had asked for a side of the spicy mustard or it was served with a nice whole grain mustard, but maybe that's personal preference over the beer cheese. The chili was a solid 7/10 and warmed us up. Ordered the hot pastrami sandwich and the smash burger. The smash burger is a must order, amazing flavor. Pastrami was solid and satisfying, generous portions of pastrami. Our bartender and waitress were both friendly and helpful. Food was served quickly. They deserve every star I could give them! Great drinks that are not over priced and they had a full Thanksgiving dinner for their guests. We had drove over here from Jacksonville as we were not going to do thanksgiving this year, first time ever to be surprised that we really were going to. We had no idea that's what we were walking into but it was as so humbling. First year without our parents and 2 of our big kids and was just harder then expected, so it was a wonderful surprise! Have to say my first time ever writing a review, stopped bye after work to have a nice martini, spoke to the bartender as soon as I walked in the door to make sure the seat I was going to sit in was not taken. I then waited upwards of 7 to 10 minutes as she closed checks, gathered money off the bar, turned and talked to other customers. All well knowing I had been standing there patiently waiting to be served. No eye contact, never said hi I'll be right with you not one damn word.
