The Father called me back and without any kindness- no I'm sorry for your loss or any offer of what others who have called him do instead- he said Catholic policy doesn't allow the body to be spread; it must be interred. I can respect that his rules and beliefs are different from mine... But when someone calls with a dead parent looking for help to put that parent at rest, maybe the first response of a religious leader should be one of compassion before you throw the rule book at them. No wonder young people want nothing to do with the church. Also the ban on spreading rather than interring seems like a strange rule to enforce considering all the body parts and blood of multiple saints that the Catholic Church holds as relics- shouldn't the Father and his colleagues start interring those with the saints bodies in that case? Anyway it's a tax free vacation house for Catholics with 32 rooms in the wealthiest part of town. End of a Gated community with a security guard. Stays at the house cost upwards of 3000. Meanwhile in downtown Gloucester there is an overfull homeless shelter struggling to help everyone, and as far as I know the retreat center does little for those folks. Between that and the constant Priest abusing children problem in the church, I would say if you are a true believer find a better place to spend your time and your money- one that actually serves your God and his children. Pretty sure Jesus would flip the tables at this place.

This is truly a very special and transformative place. I came into the weekend not knowing what to…read moreexpect, as this was my very first retreat. The owner, Jess, was amazing! We were all pampered from the moment we walked into the door. Her program for the weekend was so thoughtfully put together and her mindfulness coaching was extraordinary. In just a short time, I felt such a strong connection to the women at the retreat. We had the opportunity to do some fun, creative exercises as well as stroll around the gorgeous grounds where there is a beautiful Monet-esque pond, peaceful gardens and chickens roaming around. We also experienced an amazing sound healing with crystal bowls and many other instruments. It was such a peaceful, profound weekend that allowed me to take a break from all the chaos, relax and reconnect with myself. I have been doing the minfulness exercises Jess shared with us every day. They have classes on Tuesday evenings and Sunday mornings. I've only attended the Sunday morning class. It starts at 9am and runs for a solid hour and a half. The pace starts out mellow, then builds to the serious poses and then tails off at the end. There's some stuff in the middle that's beyond me at this point, but I still feel comfortable and not pushed past what I'm comfortable with. I find that there's a good mix of routine and new positions in the classes I've attended. As I mentioned previously, I'm a complete novice, but this place is legit.

(Which btw the pond is clean and grea to swim in!!!!). The house was well cared for, and it showed! All wood, clean lines, and had a great open feeling about it. I felt very comfortable right away, and I usually do not always feel that when arriving at a new place to sleep. We were offered little soaps and toiletries to use. The house was very large, and could easily fit more than the 7 in our group. SO! The yoga, THE YOGA!!!! I was only able to take one class, since I was there for a short time but it left an impression on me and I felt great for the rest of the day. The NEXT day I could feel how hard my body worked. The effort and instruction was peaceful yet guiding. I've never felt that way after yoga! The studio itself is beautiful, open and airy with huge windows. A delight to practice in. We we able to help in the garden, tend to the horses, go blueberry picking, swam in the pond, and in a creek a short walk away. Woods surround the Bethel Farm making it truly a place of relaxation. Overall, positive experience, country done perfectly, trees, a haven away from Manhattan. I'll be back with friends for sure!
