We sat in the waiting room for about 30 minutes. The place was packed on a Sunday night. Into the exam room, they worked in cleaning the blood off the face and hair. Determined that it would require stiches over staples. Another 40 minutes waiting in the exam room. Stiches completed and released with a print out of follow up and when to return to remove the stiches. It was a long wait, but better than going to a ER at a hospital.

A little backstory first. I had been working in the yard one day, and by evening had an itchy spot…read moreon my arm that I thought was probably a mosquito bite, no big deal. The next day, my husband and I went out of town for a couple of days that we had planned a week earlier. During the time away, the bite continued to itch, then hurt, turned red, warm and swollen, which kept getting bigger. I took progressive pictures of the area with my phone because it was so unusual. On the way home, I told my husband that I really wanted to stop and have it looked at because something was just not right. That is what led us to this particular Urgent Care. The ladies at the desk were extremely friendly. The wait was not long at all. This was a Tuesday afternoon around 2:30. The medical assistant was very nice and seemed concerned when I showed her the area. My blood pressure was a little elevated even though I take medication for it. She said she would let the doctor know. In comes the NP. Asked me what happened. I told her that I had gotten bit by something and showed her the bite. She said, Well if you don't know what bit you, then neither do I. What do you want me to do about it? , as she stood there with her arms folded across her chest. I explained that it had been getting progressively worse with each day and was now hurting. I told her that I had photos of it, and she shrugged her shoulders. She didn't want to see them. She asked me if I was having any trouble breathing, which I was not. She looked at the bite, pressed on it a few times and said, Well, it blanches , so not cellulitis. Asked me if I needed a slip for work, I didn't. Then says, well, I could listen to your lungs, which she did. Then says, Okay, you're all set. I left with no paperwork, or any info at all. After I got home I looked on my chart online to read her notes. She documented that the area was not warm, it was, not tender, it was, and that my uvula was midline. Hard to tell that without looking in my mouth. So that is documenting something that didn't happen! Thankfully I was able to get into my doctor the next day. She actually listened to what I was telling her, looked at the bite, and the photos that I had taken. With a couple of questions, figured out that more likely than not, it was the bite from a brown recluse!!! I was started on a treatment right away! I could have been getting treatment a day earlier if the NP at the Urgent Care had actually listened to what I was saying. Don't go here unless you have already diagnosed yourself. Having a primary care should mean being able to receive care so you do not have to go to the emergency room or urgent care for your basic medical needs. No one answers the phone and a MA answers your questions on Mychart. Having a CNP costs less in a copay, but I would rather pay more for better care.

The staff is in the middle of trying a new check in process but it's new and I think it still needs work. I've only seen fetal medicine and endocrinologist at this Perrysburg location. I've worked in the medical field 20 years but I do think they need to do more work with streamlining their overall process. Communication with each other and the patient needs a lot of work. When you are going to multiple doctors and offices communication with each other is important especially since being a 1st time mom can be an overwhelming experience. I've had staff and doctors call me and have no idea what's going on with my care cause someone forgot to update their notes. Thank goodness I'm a great advocate for my care and very outspoken. Not awful care or anything but definitely needs work. Lab department was fast and easy to navigate. But I do think they need to lower their voices when talking about patient care, the ladies who check us in. Be a little more sensitive to the patient sitting right in front of you. Parking is easy, nice area if you wanted to grab some lunch or shop.

Medical College of Ohio Hospital in Toledo has really changed in the past several years. I was…read morethere last week for a family member's surgery and I could not get over how state of the art the whole campus has become. The surgery waiting rooms on the second and third floors were comfortable, clean and friendly. The atmosphere in the rooms was pleasant and relaxed though the majority of people in the rooms were there for sickness and medical procedures. A thank you also to the employees there since dealing with people at their sad times has to be hard and these employees were great! A side note from the long day was stopping in the cafeteria on the first floor. This cafeteria was beyond clean and the food was one of the most gourmet type food areas in any of the local hospitals I've recently been in. I actually could imagine going out of my way to stop in there for a meal. I had an omelet made the way I wanted, plus the yummiest perfectly cooked bacon. Another treat were menu items from Tiger Bakery which is one of the best Mediterranean type bakeries in Toledo. Another perk, Medical College offer's valet parking though the parking areas are very convenient and easily accessible.

The hospital can't figure out my insurance. ( Its Medical mutual)I even made several trips there just to help them get it figured out. Was told "we'll get it dont worry". I showed up for my surgery and at check in the lady asked me how I was paying because there was no insurance listed. I am still getting bills with no insurance on it. It is a mess and not what I need to be dealing with while recovering. The Dr office which is INSIDE the hospital has my insurance and figured it out fine. I had a different surgery at Promedica Toledo Hospital this year and they figured it out just fine. Why once scanned into the Promedica system is it not just on file to all of Promedica!? Definitely see Dr Joe for surgery. He is the best in the biz!

A small facility with only 72 beds allows them to give great care. On a side note; they offer room service from 7am-6:30pm. Breakfast, lunch and dinner options are available.
