Wowow.. been to Greenwich Village a few times to eat all the different food like Mamoun's, Pommes…read moreFrites, Artichoke, etc etc over the years but I've never caught a show at the Comedy Cellar. I reserved a spot online to avoid the hassle of not making the cut at the standby line. As a party of 1, I sat with another party of 1 and she was there to see Usama Siddiquee as well. What a coincidence! 2 item minimum and phones are put in a puffy mailer bag that you have on you until the rest of the show. Their beef yakitori skewers were juicy and tender! My cucumber gin drink was refreshing and not too strong. Each comedian that went up did such a great job with various styles of humor and experiences to share. I wasn't expecting a drop in but Marcello Hernandez from SNL went up and did some new material. God.. I love good surprises. Usama closed out the night strong and I was incredibly pleased with the show. Not gonna lie.. it was kismet that I got to shake their hands after their sets since my table was by the exit door. Def an evening I'll never forget!

Listen, I don't have to say much about this place. It's a staple. It's legendary. It's iconic. Been…read morecoming here for years, and it's never once been a bad time. Founded back in 1982 in a basement on MacDougal Street, and it's stayed almost exactly what it's always been: low ceilings, brick walls, candlelit tables packed close enough together that you're basically eavesdropping on the next table over whether you want to or not. Godfrey is a regular here, and he never fails to make me split my sides. He's been holding down rooms at this club for the better part of three decades at this point, and it shows every single time. Then there's the actual reason people fly in from out of town for this place: the surprise drop-ins. I got lucky and caught Kevin Hart doing a full 45-minute set for my friends visiting from out of town, completely unannounced. That's the magic of this room. Chappelle, Chris Rock, Seinfeld, half the biggest names in comedy have all quietly walked through that door to work out new material in front of a crowd that has no idea who's about to walk on stage next. Food and drinks are great, though pricey. Doesn't matter. You're paying for the room and the possibility of a night like that, and I'd happily pay triple just for the ticket alone with no food or drink involved. Only real knock: the door guys aren't especially friendly, and if you land on their bad side, they will kick you out, so tread carefully there. You also lock your phone away in a pouch the second you walk in, which sounds annoying and is actually the best part of the whole system, since it means the room is actually watching the show instead of filming it. Service moves fast and you barely notice them working around you. Just make sure you order everything you'll need up front, once the room gets going, they don't want anyone breaking the flow to flag down a waiter. A true New York institution, and worth every dollar.

It's very high energy with crowd involvement (but only if you sign up, so don't worry about being randomly called up). Prepare for some raunchy, cringy, and NSFW punishments that kept us entertained the entire time. It's a great experience for celebrations, especially for big groups or date nights. The show is $45pp or $75pp for VIP, which includes a headband and random sake shots. I came here for a friend's birthday celebration, which was a grand ol' time! Our group got the Sushi Boat ($111) that comes with 4 nigiris, 12 sashimi, and 4 rolls. We also ordered the Tokyo Hot Fries ($10), which were seasoned so well --these were addicting! The same seasoning was also used for the 10pcs Fried Chicken ($22), so also loved that. The Pork Gyozas ($9) were pretty standard though. Alongside we had sake, beer and cocktails. All was a fun time with lots of drinking and laughter.

The improv was engaging, and audiences are encouraged to participate. The performers were very talented and provided great value entertainment-wise. The food was average, though it did satisfy our hunger. But you don't come here for the food. Bring some friends and have a great laugh!

Thankfully going on a dead cold Monday we…read morewere able to get in without one and thoroughly enjoyed the entire night's showcase of comedians. Best part of the show was the host. He did a great job of warming things up to start and really connected well with the audience. Certainly be prepared to be called out for some good laughs as he pretty much had a great joke on everyone there. The comedians were from all over the country and from very different backgrounds of life. This place is great for any occasion at any time of the week with coworkers, couples, or big groups of friends. There was even one guy there who went alone (and was obviously was picked on by the host for that very reason). I will say the 2 drink minimum that everyone complains about isn't that bad. Typical price for NYC but certainly nothing special. Flavored margaritas (mango and blood orange) were a bit sugary. I would recommend sticking to something basic here. The only buzzkill was the random $10 service charge, which we didn't see noted anywhere like the 2 drink minimum notices everywhere but maybe we didn't looking hard enough. Nonetheless, we had a great time and will be back for more laughs!
