The WORST haircut experience I've ever had. I am usually apprehensive about writing reviews about a Latino owned businesses but my experience has to be known to first timers. Ruben (nice guy) nicked me about 3 times. The reason you ask? He was constantly coughing throughout the entire haircut process which made me extremely uncomfortable because the last thing I would like to get is sick from getting a haircut. As a result, the haircut was super rushed, and when he asked me if I liked it, I had to lie so I can just get the experience done with. Advice don't cheat on your barber with this place, it ain't worth it. I still ended up tipping him to be nice, but I unfortunately will not be coming back ever again. Just got a hair cut today from the female who works there. Left me with a messed up fade asked for a double-zero and not once hit me with a shaver. hair around my ears, and also cut me on my ear... didn't put a drop of water on my head when cutting the top so I had to have my eyes closed for the first 15 minutes of the haircut.. I enjoy coming to the Harbor location as I've been to the on Chapman Ave as well. There is always street parking at the corner. Making reservations online or via phone is simple and convenient. I usually go to see Alex Carranza and he is polite, friendly, understands the style and really listens and values your input. I can tell he takes his time and goes the extra steps in trimming my hair to getting the style that I want. Sometimes when you do step in the shop you are not greeted right away but I feel for regular customers we just know to go straight to the waiting area and your barber knows you are here. read more

I really wanted to like this place, but it never materialized. Stache House has a great small town feel to it. As I waited my turn, I saw several people who I assumed were regulars walk up to the barbers and give them fist bumps. Sadly, my experience did not measure up to what I saw when I was waiting my turn. I called for a day-of reservation and they told me they had a spot available so I booked an appointment for a hot-towel shave and 0 on top. They set me up with a young guy and we were off. The haircut portion was great. Really enjoyed it and his attention to detail until he lost the handle on the clippers and they fell over on my head then fell to my lap. Shortly after that, he took a phone call during the hair cut. It seemed like a really strange thing to do when you are working on someone's hair. I don't know if it would have bothered me as much if he had headphones on and continued to work, but he did not. He took the call, then tried to work one handed. When it came to the hot towel shave, the end result turned out ok, but the whole process was pretty uncomfortable. I've had two or three hot towels shaves before and I don't remember them being this uncomfortable. It felt like he was scraping the hair off my face/ neck with a dull metal edge. To his credit, about halfway through he stopped to ask how I was doing. I mentioned the scraping so he doubled the lather and hot towels for the second half of the shave and it helped make it more comfortable. The only other negative thing about the shave was that my shirt collar soaked up the lather. Recap: Incredible vibe. It looks like there is a strong community built around the shop; it was really encouraging to see. Sadly, I encountered some speed bumps on my first visit. I'm not sure if I'll be back. . read more

Been coming here for a little while during the pandemic. I've visited the other location YEARS ago and it wasn't great. The last guy who cut my hair at the other location kept his Beats on and didn't really listen or figure out what I was looking for, so I never went back. Anyway, I've been here a few times now and Alex Magaña always gets me proper. He does clean and even fades, and on my most recent visit, he listened to what I was going for and executed the cut perfectly. It was my first real haircut in over a year and I'm glad it came out perfect, especially because I was leaving on a trip. I can tell he's a very skilled barber by the confidence in his movements. You just know when you go visit a new barber and when things feel off or different. I don't have that concern here. Another detail I like at this location is that the whole staff wears masks, even if they aren't with a customer. Alex lets me have the option of keeping mine on during my cut too which is great. It sucks especially for a haircut, but I really respect the fact that he's okay with working around the mask. read more

They Don't Know How to Manage Appointments. I am regular here. I always book an appointment before my visit.  Almost every time I end up waiting 20-25 mins regardless of the appointment. I always arrive on time, wait and sit like a stupid person.  If I have to wait after scheduling an appointment then why to book an appointment? I'm new to growing facial hair and haven't had a barber since I was a child. During college I would either grow a fro or self shave my hair off and the pattern has continued (mostly shaving) ever since. Now I'm 13 years married and realize I've been missing out on all the fun of having pros tend to your styling needs. A buddy who recently had his beard trimmed and shaped at StacheHouse gave me the idea and I finally got around to making an appointment. The place was jumping on a Friday around noon and had a nice vibe to it. Staff was welcoming and helped get this n00b situated. Brian helped me out and gave my almost 2 month beard some love. I've been using beard oil at home (definitely recommend unless you love to scratch your face off due to itching) but was too scared to attempt to cut and style myself. I'm glad I decided to stop by and definitely recommend StacheHouse for all your hair styling needs. They were trimming some pretty large beards and creating great hair styles as well so I'll be back for the full treatment next time. read more

It was my first time here. I went on a Thursday night near closing time. I was thinking it wouldn't be that busy. I was wrong. The place was packed. Thankfully, I made an appointment ahead of time. I highly recommend making an appointment ahead of time if you want your hair done here. Carlos did a really great job in cutting my hair. He did a couple fades on my hair and I really liked it. He explained the way he cut it makes my hair grow more "naturally" as opposed to the "boxy/square" look at the back of my head. Worst barber shop experience, dropped off my son for a haircut there before I went to work. & I got back home he only had the bottom half of his haircut done! I asked what happened?! He said that since he didnt have an appointment he gotten seated with the only barber that was at that moment but 15min into the haircut the barbers appointment customer walked in. I really enjoyed this place. I will be recommending it all of my friends. Setting/location: It has plenty of parking, is clean, ambient, and smells good/clean. The floor was well-swept. There is plenty of room for social distancing. Barbers wear masks and gloves. The music was really loud and contemporary. It was hard to hear my barber when he asked me questions. But I really liked the music, so the noise didn't bother me. The decor was "old timey" and "rockabilly". Stache House is safe and welcoming for young children and teens. Price: $25 for 30 minutes. I was satisfied with this price. My barber used his whole 30 minutes to trim, buzz, brush, comb, and style my hair. Important note, Stache barbers only take cash. They have an ATM if needed and there is a small fee to withdraw. Service: My barber was Eddie. He greeted me with a smile when I came in and was very welcoming. His consultation was very good; he asked me very good questions and his technique was very good. He had a very delicate touch and took his time. I did not know what I wanted when I went in. He asked me what I wanted, made a few suggestions, and allowed me to opportunities to change anything I didn't like. This made me feel really comfortable. My hair turned out better than I imagined. I was more than satisfied. Best time to come: Early in the morning. They can get really busy. Overall experience: I was very satisfied and will be back (and bring friends). I was looking for a new barber in town, and decided to try Stache House because of the convenient location and positive reviews. My intention was to find a barber who cuts my hair how I like and someone I can consistently give my business to. I like to know what to expect when I come in for a cut. I scheduled an appointment online and selected a barber who I was referred to beforehand. When I arrived for my apt, I was told that my barber left early and that I could wait for the next barber available. No worries, it happens. The next time I booked an appointment, I came in and was told that my barber left early. Like I said it happen(s). But where is the heads up communication? I was contacted before both visits by phone, where the owner called to push me to arrive early, but didn't inform me that my barber wouldn't be at my apt. I would only find this out after arriving at Stache House. This confused me a little bit. Was this a purposeful omission, so they could still get the business? The third time I booked an appointment, I arrived and was told that my barber wasn't there (no show). I later found out that the barber had been given the day off. Again, things happen that we don't always plan for. I wish I could say that there was still some communication and concern from the leadership at Stache House, but there was absolutely none. It's impossible to build trust without communication. When appointments are consistently cancelled, there is zero upfront communication and the management doesn't care, it makes for a very low quality of service experience. Showed up, told them I wanted a hot towel head shave. Left with only a low buzz cut and spent $30. Nice barbershop, many barbers and they had the games on, but unfortunately I left with what I did not ask for. Thinking that after the buzz he was going to hot towel shave it but he simple said that's $25. Havent been in a barber shop in years and this place was perfect. For 15 bucks, Ozzy was understanding, helpful, and worked with exactly what I wanted; to keep my beard full, and shape it for growth. I requested scissor trim over the clippers and he did a fantastic job. The environment is clean and fun, and the barbers are friendly and professional. James Brown and George Clinton played the entire time and I couldn't have been happier. I would however recommend that stache house invests in bamboo/wooden combs rather than plastic ones. Companies mass produce plastic combs in huge cutout sheets. So they pop out combs leaving them with imperfections that can snag on your beard hairs. Bamboo/wood is individually crafted and also a fairly cheap option. All in all, extremely satisfied and Ozzy deserves the 5 star. Thanks! read more

I came in to try this shop. I did not have an appointment so I went in as a walk in. And I didn't wait to get seated, which is a major plus! It was my lucky day!!! The area looked super clean and upbeat. The music is a bit loud tho, but maybe they do it so other people won't hear your conversation. The barber who helped me was super cool and friendly and went over and beyond to fix my hair. I told him to do whatever he think would look good and he did an awesome job. I rate isn't too bad ($20), which I think is now normal pricing everywhere. I will be coming back but this time around I will make sure to make an appointment. The barbers were dressed semi-professional, which makes it that more welcoming to their guests. Keep it up! read more
