I've been here before and have had a banging breakfast every time however, i went with my girlfriend today after her hospital visit for ITP and she tried to bring her emotional support puppy with her, we had a carriage and everything for the baby. Upon entering with the carriage the who I believe to be the owner and or the one in charge at the moment quickly asked for documentation for the puppy which is even illegal to ask in the first place. Should he had been nicer about the whole thing I wouldn't be writing this review but he sharply said "he can't be here". I've been to multiple restaurants with her and the puppy and never had a single issue. We respect the "no dogs" sign if it's there and we respect if the host/hostess says no, but this guy was completely insensitive about the whole thing. read more

This'd is your grandparents kind of pancake house. We like to feel like we CAN'T cook what we eat at restaurants and this place is NOT that kind of place. It's fine if you want simple food, but don't expect anything fancy. It's got an old time feel with the clientele to match. The service is fast, but it's probably because they don't put much effort into preparing the dishes. Came here on Labor Day after seeing a huge line at Tops. I think the guy in the front tells everyone the wait is 10 mins, but it really didn't seem much longer then that. I got the hungry man, which was an enormous amount of food for $11 and comes with a coffee! You really can't beat that for breakfast/brunch. My partner got the French toast which was also huge and she said she enjoyed it. Also, food came out very quick. Wasn't a long wait at all. Waitress refilled coffee when I was finished which is something I always enjoy. For my first time, I was really impressed. I'm all about quantity and prices at diners and this place kills it there. I've been coming here since I was little kid. I remember going here after crew practice and ordering a bunch of pancakes and bacon.. those were the days. Now I come in once a year or so and I get the omellete filled with cheddar, grilled chicken and bacon topped with sour cream with a side of home fries. I stopped in Stacks after taking visiting Rutgers one day because my grandparents had recommended that I tried it out after the remodeling. I remembered the restaurant as sub par the last time that I visited and I found it to be slightly better this time around. I ordered an omelet and it was decent, the potatoes were meh. I did like the spinach in the omelet, that was very good and the coffee was decent. If I was in the area again, I'd consider stopping in but I don't think it was anything too special. read more

It was my first time here on a Sunday morning, the food was alright nothing extraordinary but the waitress Anastasia was very rude. Passed by our table several times but didn't even bother to ask if we needed any refills on our drinks and at the end she gave us the check (we didn't even ask for it) but since we were with another couple she didn't even bother asking if we needed to split the check either. Our friend told her nicely if she was able to do it and she huffed and puffed giving us an attitude about it. The guy at the front where we had to pay, was throwing the pen at us and the receipt. When I first approached The Stack--the line was out the door. I always think that is a good thing since the food must be worth it, however, nobody really likes waiting in line. We were greeted promptly and couldn't have waited more than five minutes for a table. The Stack serves breakfast all day and that's what we went there for. I think the food came out quicker than it took for us to get a table. I went with the Hungry Man special and it was quite the breakfast. Everything is cooked pretty simply--nothing fancy--but it is cooked right! Nice crispy bacon, perfect pancakes, eggs that aren't runny and well-buttered toast. And the potatoes are very light on the seasoning--which I like. Not a fan when the breakfast potatoes are loaded with onions and peppers. The Stack is comparable to a diner, but I would place it above that. I would come back here again--besides I have to--need to try the steak! read more

I haven't eaten in The Stack in decades, since back when they had a counter. The menu is simple, the food delicious, at a great price, and our server was delightful. It's a very clean establishment with attention to details that make all the difference in cleanliness of an eatery. I had chicken parm and was pleased to find a generous portion of juicy, well breaded and perfectly cooked chicken. My husband has a burger which was amazing. It was huge and tasty and just perfect. I'm a former Belleville boy and I'm with Edward I. -- didn't appreciate this place until I moved away. I don't think locals love or even recognize The Stack as they should. My family and I made a tradition of coming here every Christmas Eve morning after my sister and I moved away and it never disappoints. The portions are enormous, the staff is amiable and conversational and the menu is really flexible. I asked for pancakes with bananas, walnuts and chocolate chips... no problem. OJ mixed with cranberry juice? No problem. Dealing with a high-maintenance Masshole in the heart of North Jersey. Again, no problem. I love the Tops, Arlington and Lyndhurst diners, but The Stack has them beat on breakfast. I think of it, Lee's Hawaiian Islander and Stewart's and start yearning for home. P.S. It also has a view of the river, which most places on the Passaic seem to shun. Good for them. The parks and the view of people from Nutley, Belleville and Kearny sculling during rowing season isn't something that should be dismissed because many people in the area consider the Passiac a worthless trench. It's not our fault that a generation before decided it would be better to build an elevated Daytona Speedway and give carjackers a nice conduit than to preserve their connection to the river. Kudos to the Stack for acknowledging the river as a gift, not a curse. read more

Never coming here again. Our waitress was very bland much like our food. She took forever to refill our coffee and once our food came, did not bother to ask how everything was. We ordered the eggs Benedict and the steak and eggs. The hollandaise sauce was gross, almost tasted like soap. The eggs were over cooked. In addition to that, the steak was over cooked when we asked for medium rare. When our waitress brought our check, she STILL didn't ask how our food was. Recently had the beef goulash. There were 6, count them SIX pieces of meat in the small serving dish, smothered with gravy that tasted of butter/flour roux. Not like it used to be, when it tasted of tomato and spices and perhaps even some red wine. And the pieces of meat used to fill up the long casserole type plate. I mentioned it to my spouse whose eyes rolled. Meanwhile, his corned beef/pastrami sandwich did not come with pickles and coleslaw. Apparently, now you have to ask for pickles and coleslaw. We also had to ask for water. This was not the only recent visit that was disappointing. The greek salad had wilted/brown edged lettuce, with barely any feta cheese - now when you ask for no anchovies, and no grape leaves, you'd think they would compensate with some extra cheese, but no, you get a sprinkling just the way it comes. Last time I had the meatball escarole soup, also, it was gross - greasy and flavorless, and also the grilled chicken was like rubber. It is getting to the point I don't want to go there anymore. Are they skimping on quality and quantity to keep the prices low for the elderly customers who have no taste buds left? I don't know. read more

Our group of friends have been going to the stack religiously for a little over the past year. As the name implies this place is all about pancakes. Their selection is superb, containing everything from traditional pancakes to chocolate and peanut butter chip. But don't be deceived! The Stack has an amazing menu containing standard breakfast omelettes, sandwiches and even a great lunch selection. If you're going be sure to try The Stack Wrap, or the Hungry Man's breakfast. Nothing Special My wife and I go out for breakfast nearly every weekend. We especially enjoy gourmet breakfast restaurants having good coffee combined with a comfortable, friendly atmosphere. Every now and then we try a new place and this time was no different as we had not been to Stack before. First impressions: the owner was having a verbal altercation with another person in the parking lot which was a negative for me. Also, a nearby (seated) customer was uttering profanities during his conversation, another turnoff. Food: I ordered the French Toast. One piece was the end of the loaf and not pleasing; taste wise, my food was somewhat OK. My wife's blueberry pancakes seemed to be covered with canned blueberries. The coffee was, however, very good as well as the service. Their parking lot is small and parking can be problematic. Conclusion: We know too many other pancake houses where the customer banter is somewhat more refined, and the overall atmosphere brighter and more mature, making for a more enjoyable breakfast and morning experience. I doubt that we will be making another trip to Stack in North Arlington. read more

I love this place, last night me and my brother were hungry, we decided to go to the stack, get us a late night dinner, we love the "hungry mans" breakfast platter, it was ten minutes till closing and they still welcomed us in, it was incredible and we'd apologize for coming so short notice but they kept insisting it was no worries, great people. I've been coming here for about a year now, I'm glad I found this gem of dinner in New Jersey, hopefully they'll be around for my children to enjoy this place. Thank you to the staff. read more

Best pancakes In the area for sure! I've been coming here for over 10 years and I love it! It's always my go too especially when I have guests in town. You will have to wait on the weekends for breakfast but it's worth it, I promise! I've tried almost all the omelets, the peanut butter and banana pancakes are amazing, everything on the breakfast menu! I've never tried steak or anything else but the breakfast is delicious. Let me start this review by saying their food is AMAZING. Or at least their breakfast. But they're false advertising by stating that this restaurant is "kid friendly". They're not. I brought my 2 kids here with there grandmother and my son, whom is 2 year old, started crying because he didn't want to sit in his high chair. Instead of just allowing me to calm him down, our waitress shoved crayons in his face. That didn't calm him down. AGAIN INSTEAD OF LETTING ME DO MY JOB. The bus boy came over running with a booster seat. Side note: I've had an incident with him in a booster seat which is why I didn't allow him to sit in the booster seat. Let me state that I told them to just leave us alone and I will handle it. Another waitress came with a pancake. I took the pancake and put it on the table. At this point he was worse than when he came in. WALLING AND SCREAMING. I understood how this comes off but I kept on telling them to leave us alone while I calm him down. Then our waitress came over with lollipops. This is when I lost it and took the lollipops and said OK THAT IS ENOUGH. THANK YOU. This is my first and last time here. I would like to start with the environment, the staff wasnt treating my fiance and me the same way as the other customers. They seated us at the worst spot of the restaurant and when we asked for a better seat. The manager stated he prefers this table for us where we can see all the action. We were seated right next to the waitress station at the corner. The waitress taking our order didnt even bother checking if we needed anything else, also when we ordered horrible service. Isnt that a funny treatment for a philipino person and a Hispanic by predominantly white staff. Now let me start with the food the potatoes were blend, the pancakes weren't fully cooked, they dont even put the straw on the drink. The coffee was cold. My boyfriend and I usually get breakfast or sandwiches/burgers to go from The Stack. Everything is comparable to diner-quality, and they have great steak fries. Our one major complaint is about what happened this morning: after picking up 2 breakfasts and a bagel to go. They charged $2.65 for a plain, unbuttered, untoasted bagel - and it was STALE! I always try and support local businesses, in my town and other towns close by. So this is to Stack's owner and employees...just use some common sense and a little more attention to customer service. Specifically, you are offering pick-up during COVID, how hard is it to make sure the order is correct and really basic necessities like utensils, napkins and condiments are in the bag. You keep screwing this up several times. Can one employee be in charge of checking all of this stuff before you hand the bags over to the customer? Doesn't sound like a difficult thing to do. I've been eating at the Stack for over a decade and I plan on continuing to do so. I usually go for breakfast on weekend mornings and the place is always packed however the wait is never that long and the fact that you can see how hard they are working to get you seated makes the wait less frustrating. Almost every server I've ever had there has been great and you don't wait long for your food either. The food is good, not spectacular and the menu is nothing special either but considering how affordable it is and the positives I mentioned above it's a place I'll continue to go to with joy. read more

My daughters food came without her bacon and when I asked for something it was never brought out to us. And no refills on the drinks. Very disappointing.
