This place has been here forever. I used to go here when I lived in NJ because it's a great breakfast place. Brought my family here on Tuesday morning for breakfast. It was busy- spring break and wall. We were seated immediately by the gentleman who I'm pretty sure owns the place. We were greeted fast. Our food came out extremely fast. Our coffees were kept hot and full. We were given a check before we had to wait and ask. We really appreciated the great experience as my wife and I find them harder and harder to come by. read more

My family and I frequently dine here twice or three times a week for brunch/lunch. I definitely recommend their omelettes which come with a side of 3 buttermilk pancakes or their cheddar burger which comes with curly fries! The food comes out quickly and the portions are good. I happened to be running errands near North Arlington and stumbled upon Stack looking for a late breakfast. So glad we did. Stack is old school, NJ diner style food which is exactly what I was looking for. Service was excellent. This is not a 5-star restaurant, but everyone we encountered from the hostess that sat our party, both waitresses that served our table to the man taking payment at the counter was super nice. Even during a breakfast/brunch/ lunch rush, they staff couldn't have been more pleasant. I ordered the hungry man breakfast to have a bit of everything. It was the best breakfast sampler option, though I'm sure that everything else on the breakfast menu will also be good. The pancakes were hot and fluffy - I ate every bite. No complaints about Stack. If I could give this a zero rating I would. Let's start with the service, it was just ok but we knew right away that he was unable to take our order correctly but we wanted to keep the faith! My partner is a vegetarian but loves potato pancakes and when we ordered it, we asked for the bacon to be on a separate plate (I was going to eat it), however, it came to our table with the bacon on top of the pancakes, and my 2 eggs over easy came as poached eggs. Also ordered an omelette with cheese and onions and got no onions. When the manager walked over and asked how was everything -boy did we give him an earful. I did feel sorry for the server because I honestly think he was trying, but the entire order was incorrect. Once it came out correctly, the food itself was extremely greasy. To the point we couldn't eat it all. Had such high hopes for this place because of all the positive reviews, but unfortunately our experience was anything but positive. read more

Waitress was great. Pancakes were AMAZING. The sausages I got with them were cold/under cooked. The fish n chips were nothing more than prefrozen fish patties with crappy fries. Cheap quality. They charge WAY too much for fountain drinks. Decor/atmosphere is outdated. If I ever go back, it would only be for the pancakes and absolutely nothing else. I think this is my new go to breakfast spot. Can get a little crowded but so worth the wait. I've past this place many times during my commute. It always looks packed which prompted me to come. I want to TASTE my burger, even if it does have toppings they should enhance the flavor of the meat...not hide it. Anyway, the Stack burger is a pretty basic item...10oz bacon cheeseburger (I went with cheddar) on a grilled hard-roll. Comes with lettuce, tomato and fries. Now, what I write next I do with the understanding that it's a big statement...This was the best burger I've ever had at a DINER. It was delicious, done perfectly, and they kept it simple. Bad service. Me and my family have eaten here plenty of times and never experienced this type of service which is really odd. We got sat down outside no problem. Then me and my family waited about 20 minutes for utensils and water. Then we waited another 30 minutes until we saw other people who got their after us getting seated and they're orders being taken before my family. Me and my family got upset and just walked out. By observation I felt like the waitresses were taking orders of the regulars customers as a priority. I understand restaurants get short staffed but this place has been in the past and the service was still good. The owners need to bear down and help the wait staff in taking orders if they want service to run smooth. I think it will be a while before I come back. read more

I went to Stack Pancake & Steak House on a Thursday morning for brunch with a friend of mine. We were on a mission to find a new brunch place so that's why we ended up here. It has a cute restaurant front and the inside certainly has a cute personality when it comes to decor. I always appreciate that. Yes, it is a diner, so there are many options on the menu, but when I go to a restaurant that has "Pancake" in the title, I'm going to probably eat breakfast food. From the moment we walked in, the staff was extremely friendly. I was carrying my baby in her car seat and the owner(?) or manager(?) helped me carry her over to a booth. Much appreciated since the car seat filled with a baby is NOT light. Our waitress was super friendly too and offered us a good suggestion when we asked what was better - the banana pancakes or strawberry roll-ups. (Banana pancakes if you are starving, strawberry roll-up if you are looking for something lighter, just FYI). I had the potato pancakes with a side of turkey sausage and applesauce. The pancakes normally come with bacon but when I asked to substitute the turkey sausage, the waitress gave me no problem. The potato pancakes were delicious! They were a good size and I was able to finish them all. They had a great flavor to them. The turkey sausage was small in size but delicious. Their coffee was also good and they kept it coming. Stopped by this very nice, mom and pop, country style dinner after visiting the motorcycle mall. We got a window seat overseeing a little secret garden and the water canal. I was really surprised they variety of food they serve. They offer a solid 8 pages of items. They have all day breakfast, sandwiches, burgers, steak, seafood, soups, and more We ordered the country fried steak and the Stack burger. The steak gravy was one of the best I've had. I blame the following for that: *THE best pancakes in the whole world (bold statement, I know, but go ahead and order a pancake there and see how you feel). So my usual order of a tuna melt on rye has enough tuna for just one person, instead of something you'd serve a family of 6 on one piece of bread (I take food waste seriously, so listen up Tops Diner!). *Home fries are consistently crispy. Coffee is hot, tastes great, and is filled often. So many diners fail at these two musts. The Stack gets it right, EVERY time. *Last, but certainly the most important: old school style service. I've been going to this place for years; chalk it up to laziness that I haven't reviewed it yet. We are always greeted warmly by the owner, the waitresses can get you in, well fed, and out in a half hour if that's what you need, but they also don't intrude if you linger a bit. Everything on the breakfast menu is top-notch, from the steak and eggs my brother favors to the kielbasa and eggs that I love to the Belgian waffle that my husband goes for. In addition to the standard, thick-cut challah French toast (which is very good, but too large a portion for my liking), they also offer "old-fashioned" French toast, made with standard white or whole wheat bread which I prefer. They have good coffee, and come around often to offer refills. As for non-breakfast foods, they make a great hamburger and a delicious patty melt, and I once had a dinner special of pork loin that haunts me, it was so good. I can't speak to anything else non-breakfast, since that's what I'm usually there for, and I've never had dessert, although they look wonderful. read more

Service was great! The servers are very attentive. I went last Saturday with my friend and my son, and they noticed that he was all over the place in the booth, and brought me a high chair for him and some crayons. He's one he didn't really use them but it was nice. I had the hungry man and my friend had the steak and eggs. I like the hungry man, 4 strips of bacon, sausage, pancakes, eggs, toast. I was in heaven. Of course I didn't eat it all. But it was great. My friend was no a fan of the steak, she ordered medium rare and it was very well done, and flavorless. She wasn't too happy. Best breakfast we've had out in quite a while! I had peanutbutter pancakes, which were so light, so fluffy, and so perfect that I was able to eat the entire lot of them. My partner in breakfast crime had something called the "Hungry Man's Breakfast". Well, he ain't hungry any more, and quite possibly won't ever be again after that meal! Two slices of rye toast, two eggs, two sausage links, a few slices of bacon, and a few pancakes...that's the Hungry Man's Breakfast. It's a small restaurant, which comes with a tiny parking lot. When i come here on Sundays i have to park on the street. The wait on the weekends isn't long, but there is a wait. It's really busy in the mornings and some waitresses rush you in and out. It can get pretty loud. Their serving size of drinks are really small. For the STACK a small is a miniature glass, and a large is a small glass. So you'll definitely need to order at least 2 glasses of O.J. to get you through. I wanted something filling and decadent, so I went the waffle sandwich, which is just a regular belgian waffle with a scrambled egg and sausage on top. The sausage is super thick but tastes just as delicious as sausage links from your mom's table. The waffle was light and airy, and it tasted like a dream soaked in maple syrup. Just what I wanted. We shared an order of disco fries, which are just ok, not much gravy, and the cheese isn't very flavorful. Thankfully, they are serving some very good coffee, and they'll refill your cup for free.
