Mini Cooper engine shut off while going 70mph on the highway and would not restart. Got towed to Stadium Auto Service but they could neither replicate nor diagnose, let alone solve the issue. They had the audacity to suggest several thousand dollars in unnecessary repairs but simultaneously issued a disclaimer stating that they could not guarantee any if these repairs would fix the problem. I was still charged the diagnostic fee despite having nothing to show for their "work," and I got an oil change out of pure necessity. Setting $400.00 on fire would've been more productive than the help I received from TJ and staff. And I still had to drive away anxious at the thought of the car breaking down on the highway again. To top it off, there is now a completely new code showing up that Stadium either caused, didn't check for, or neglected to mention. I'm ashamed to admit that these so-called honest experts totally ripped me off, but they would have made my situation way worse if I had approved any more of their recommended repairs. After making a 2-hour trek to Stadium Auto for years to get work done on my BMW, I decided to take a beater I purchased to them for a malfunction light that came on, possibly an oil change, & maybe a tune-up, depending on costs. The beater is a GL450. Once it was checked in, Stadium proceeded with a "physical" & an oil change for $658.00. The last time I had an oil change done for a Mrcds SUV was at a German auto shop in 2008 in the SF Bay Area; it was around $150.00. I questioned "TJ" about the price of the service & said it seemed a little excessive. I also asked that they not move forward with a spark plug change, ~$700.00, wiper change, ~$113, AC Compressor, ~$1,600, or replacement of air bellows, approximately ~$3,800.00. (TJ referred to the air bags as "springs" in the quote. He offered to change the item description to 'avoid confusion.' I wasn't confused, TJ. Just making sure you weren't selling me springs.) TJ's immediate response was that I never return to Stadium again. I don't know if I should laugh or be offended! Given their prices, maybe I should just be grateful! I'm feeling like working on my own car again, to the extent technology will allow me; could be fun! Certainly less painful than being reamed! I can even provide my own parts for a FRACTION of the cost! And then there's Dixon's in Wixom who offered to do the plugs for less than $500.00! I've heard they do excellent work! read more

I was looking for a place to get my vehicle serviced versus the dealer. I decided on this place after reading reviews. It is a small shop located in Ann Arbor. I texted and set up an appointment. I needed an oil change and to have a button fixed. Upon arrival I was greeted quickly and waited for my vehicle. They finished my vehicle quickly at a reasonable price. I was having trouble with overheating and I sent in my car for a check up for their service. They send a list of everything they check the status of what they think it is in a green yellow red format and they also include pictures of everything they've done. I thought we'd share our totally bizarre experience. I brought in my car for an oil change and inspection. A family member went to pick up my car during their regular hours while I was working. The door to the check-out area was unlocked but there was no employee in sight. He called out for an employee. No one responded. He poked his head around, including in the garage and bathroom. No one was there. He called the office number several times. Their voicemail message apparently says, "We are open until 5:00 pm but sometimes we sneak out early." The door was unlocked and my car keys were sitting on the desk. Anyone could've walked in, taken them, and stolen my car, not to mention all their equipment and cash. He couldn't leave in good conscience so he called 911 out of fear the place would be robbed. A police officer showed up and poked his head around. Still not a soul in sight. They found out a way to lock the door from the inside and he finally left about an hour later while the officer stayed and backup squad cars pulled up. Obviously, he could not pay. They never contacted me to apologize. He returned the next day to explain everything and pay the bill to the tune of almost $200. No apology. No discount. No explanation. The employee even said this wasn't the first time! I should add that immediately after this service my low tire pressure warning turned on after they supposedly did a tire rotation and my brakes are making a weird noise. We are never returning, obviously. read more

Beware of these sharks who claim to be experts in import cars, but do not have the expertise to diagnose. My daughter took her BMW 535xi 2008 for a transmission fault message diagnosis (limp mode). They sent us their diagnosis report showing the need to have the transmission oil pan and oil replaced for $1,400, with the possibility of having to replace the transmission if the problem is not solved. I, the parent living in Illinois, called and discussed the matter with Jim, who said they have to go through this first step of replacing the oil pan and oil; I hesitantly agreed, as I am far away and did not wish to have the car towed to Illinois to my mechanic who specializes in European cars. And my daughter needed the car, and so I approved the job for $1400. Then, I watched the YouTube on the replacement of the oil pan and oil, and I was shocked how straightforward and small a job this was, about 11/2 hour max; $100 oil and $150 oil pan. So I dropped my jaw knowing that I just approved a $1,400 job. I called my mechanic, and he told me it was a $500 job. So, I figured I needed an unbiased party and got two other estimates, and also researched national cost for this job, which turned out to be $400-$600. This was a far cry from $1,400 Stadium Auto quoted me. Being busy at work, and my daughter graduating in 10 days, I figured I will stick with my decision and let Stadium auto finish the job. They got back with me and reported that the transmission oil pan did not show any metal shavings, which meant that the transmission mechanical parts are intact. However, they said they still got the same diagnostic code, which meant something else is causing the problem, and that they had to send the diagnostic code to SOMEONE somewhere to figure out what was wrong with the transmission ( I thought they were the experts as they boast, and they just charged me $1,400, and their guess did not pan out). Fast forward, they got back with me saying they WERE TOLD that there is a valve inside the transmission that they needed to check for malfunction; guess what! they asked for an additional $900 to drain the transmission oil, remove the oil pan and check the valve! Now maybe I am wrong, but would you not think that they should have checked the valve once they had the oil pan off the first time!!! Now they want another $900, and there is no guarantee that the valve is the faulty component. They figured I am stuck and under their mercy being in Illinois, and my daughter without a car in Ann Arbor, and so another chance to make another quick $900 on top of the highway robbery of $1400 for a $500 job. And they told me if it were not the valve then a new transmission for $10K, and a used one would not do!!!! contrary to every other mechanic's opinion. When I refused to take their bait for $900, Jim, the soft spoken cool guy, said he will prepare my bill, and it will ~$1,200!! Wow he actually gave me a $200 discount. This is like someone stealing your wallet full of cash and goodies, and giving you back $200 out of sympathy. I read a few reviews on you Jim, and yes you are not only sharks, but also without experience or knowhow. When my daughter went to pick up the car, they would not let her test it thinking she might drive off without paying!! Wow...that says a lot. Jim: we are not like you; we do not steal peoples' hard earned money, and of course this money she paid you today was not all hard earned by you; half of it was stolen. Remember Jim, you tried to steer me into replacing the transmission for $10K from the get go before knowing what the problem was. And you jumped into looking for a transmission. Does that not give you away!! You know that it does not cost more than $5K for transmission replacement, and yes you can install a used good condition one, but $10K sounds a lot better to you. Good luck, and now we know. I am having my car towed to my hometown and repaired by people who are not greedy sharks like you. read more

Another great experience with Stadium Auto. I had a bent tire rim and needed a front end alignment. The rim needed to be straightened before the alignment could be done. Stadium doesn't straighten bent rims. But Roy found someone he trusted who does and set it up for the technician to come to Stadium on the day of my appointment and straighten the rim so we could do all the work at one time. This saved me so much time. I didn't have to find a rim place, take my car there, then come back to Stadium. This is great customer service! Thank you! read more

Visiting our daughter at U Michigan. I decided to get an oil change for her car & take care of what we thought was a nail in her tire. They did inform me they were not a quick oil change shop. Disappointed it was going to take ~90 minutes. They showed me how to get to Starbucks in the local Kroger's. Upon completion, they phoned with the tire verdict. The stem valve was faulty. They told me the price and what needed to be done. They also, found some other minor things that needed to be done with normal service. They also took it upon themselves to change the battery in her key fob. This was amazing! They went above and beyond what any other auto shop would have done. I was extremely thankful for their customer focus. When they informed me it would be another 90 minutes, I took a Lyft to do some errands. Just as the driver arrived, they finished and said I could cancel the ride. I told them no since I'd be charged for it. When they fully finished the car, they called and sent a driver to pick me up at ArborLand Center. Extremely customer focused. I highly recommend Stadium Auto for any and all your repairs! read more

I called this shop because I just needed a second opinion on a (misdiagnosed) alternator problem, and I'm so glad I did. My check engine light was on and power seemed to to be surging making my lights go dim at times, and also not allowing me to accelerate as well. When I brought in my little 1996 Honda Civic, they had lots of Mercedes and BMW's parked for service, so I felt a little out of place, but they made me feel very welcome. They ran extensive tests to diagnose the issue as an electrical one, repairing it for a couple hundred dollars less than the alternator I was quoted from a less than reputable mechanic. They also completely inspected my car, giving me quotes on other repairs for future consideration, letting me know what would be the most important, which ones were most pressing, and which ones could take a backseat for now. As a female driver with limited car knowledge, I often am intimidated by auto shops and their technicians, but not once did I feel pressured to spend more money or repair anything unnecessary. The gentlemen I spoke with were respectful, professional, willing to answer any and all questions without making me feel stupid or out of my depth. I will absolutely be returning for all my car maintenance and recommending them to friends. After my 84 year old mother-in-law had her brakes/rotors replaced on her vehicle recently at Stadium Auto, she continued to complain that her brake wear sensor was still illuminating after driving the vehicle. I called Staudium Auto and explained the issue and they told me to bring the vehicle in at my convenience. Long story,short....After Brian, the Tech, completely re-inspected and ran a diagnostic on the vehicle, we determined that my M-I-L was confusing the start up warning/test lights with the brake sensor light....so no problem after all. Both Scott and Eric in the front office could not have been nicer and completely understanding and patient during this inspection. Brian, the Tech, was also truly concerned and did not just blow this off. I have brought my vehicle here in the past and will continue to do so in the future.  Stadium Auto is a Great Business!!!! I took my 2008 BMW to their shop this past year to get my ABS pump looked at, I knew it was not broken because it worked occasionally, but the lights kept showing up on the dash. I received a call from them a few hours later saying that the repair would be $4,500-$5,000. I sold the car to my friend because I moved for school and he was able to repair it for $180. if you go to this shop I would take it somewhere else to see if they are being honest. I am not sure if it was a mistake or if they were trying to get me to pay for something that was not necessary. The car is very common and if you stop by the shop you will see their parking lot filled with the car that I had, and the issue is quite common too so you would think that they would know what they're doing by now. read more

I went to Stadium Auto Service on the advice of Hoover Street Auto Repair because they told me that Stadium Auto has an awesome Volkswagen specialist named Mike. What luck that I found Mike! Mike addressed every issue that I had with my camper, and even found a couple that I hadn't been aware of, and fixed them all. 1st time visit yesterday with my Audi A4. I dealt with Jim who was helpful, honest and informative both on the phone and in person. I never felt rushed or that I was being treated poorly. From a customer service perspective I'm very happy. I had an oil change and they also did a full inspection. They provided feedback on the issues they found with no pressure. The oil change was $93 (I used the $20 check-in from Yelp to bring it down to $73 for a first time visit) which is on the higher side but overall I'm very happy and you get what you pay for. BEWARE!!!!! DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR HERE!!!!!!!!! I would rate them a 0 but it doesn't allow me too. They will RIP you OFF!! I brought my car in for a rattle noise towards the front. I took it here and Andy the manager told me that I need a new catalytic converter. $1,390.00 later had a new catalytic converter installed thinking this would take care of the problem. Nope, it didn't! When I drove away, it had the same rattle! I went back and dropped it off again, Andy said they just needed to tighten it". Went back the next day to pick it up, and yup you guessed it, it had the same RATTLE NOISE!!!!! I called them and Andy says they think its a piece of Plastic is stuck between the motor and the transmission and in order to get to the piece out, they need to take out the transmission??!!!! WHAT, are you F-ing KIDDING ME?! this place is a joke! I believe being a woman they took clear advantage of me, knowing I know nothing about cars! Now I still have the same problem. I spent $1,390.00 for a catalytic converter that I probably didn't even need. PLEASE STAY CLEAR OF THIS PLACE. I'm sure the 5 star ratings are probably coming from their family members! Had great experiences before, this time took it in knowing it was the alternator. Had the belts replaced instead per there evaluation since it was worn and fluid had leaked on them. 5 minutes after picking it up dash lights came on like a tree and trans went into limp mode. Turned out to be the alternator after all... Had no problem paying for the alternator the first time. They do good quality work and do use the best parts but after this last experience, I'll stick to doing it my self. I'm happy with they're work and quality but not the process. I have a 2009 jeep wrangler. I ran it out of oil on the expressway on a business trip down to Kentucky. Scott arranged for a rental car and helped me to get back on my way south as quickly and efficiently as possible. I was extremely happy with the service I received here. This service shop even ended up being 500$ cheaper on the repairs than the dealer bask home. I would reccomend stadium motors to anyone with car troubles anytime. I will leave another review after I have driven and seen my rebuilt motor from them next week as well. Went here based on a recommendation from a trusted auto body shop, Dealing with an issue with the airbag warning light on the dash and these folks were recommended as having the equipment and experience to diagnose and fix this kind of problem. Handled everything over the phone and dropped the car off at night. They were great at communicating with me and, I have to say, that when I went to pick up the car, I was pretty blown away by how buttoned up the whole operation is. Cleanest auto repair shop I have ever seen by a long shot. I would never go back to this place. This is a scam shop not a auto shop. My previous mechanic had told me that I needed a wheel alignment because my tires had been wearing out unevenly but since he is not do German cars himself, I went to Stadium Auto Services. And here's what happened. First on the phone they gave me a quote for $70. I specifically asked them if that was including everything and they said yes. The receptionist even asked me for my specific car make, model and year so that he can give me a more accurate quote and after checking he still repeated that it would only cost $70. So I go there and drop off my car. They again give me the same quote and start working. Then 30 mins after they have already started working on my car, I overhear the service manager telling the receptionist that they should be charging me more since my car is an all-wheel drive!! Then, the receptionist comes by and says that I need to pay $103! When I tell him why he had quoted $70, he claims that he had only talked about front wheels! Well, they definitely knew that my car was an all-wheel drive in the first place. Anyhow, I agree and tell them to do everything for $103. What a scam! Finally, after 1.5 hours they tell me that my car is ready. But when I look at the details of what they have done for my wheel alignment, there was not a SINGLE angle that they had fixed. Every angle that was in the red zone was still in the red and every angle that was in yellow was still in yellow according to themselves! In fact, except for two readings that had slightly changed, ALL other angles were left as they were in the first place. Even those two angles that had changed slightly were still in the red zone! So long story short, they charged me $103 for wheel alignment but they did NOTHING! When I confronted them, the service manager simply tells me that oh that's all we could do within the time we usually allocate for a wheel alignment (and by that he simply meant NOTHING) and that I would have to pay an additional $200 if I wanted them to actually finish the wheel alignment. I am extremely angry that they lied to me, made me wait 1.5 hours, and then charged me $103 but did not align ANY of my misaligned toes, casters or cambers. Not a single one! They didn't align anything, they simply said they feel like they need to spend two more hours which would cost $200 more! Why would I ever trust my car with such deceitful and incompetent scammers ever again? Please save your money, time and car and go elsewhere. This was my first and last time at this ridiculous place and will definitely be my last time too! I am shocked by all these positive reviews that others have given them and am seriously dubious that they are genuine. PS: Interestingly, after doing such a great job at doing nothing for my car and charging more over $103, they had the nerves to recommend a long list of other repairs that would amount to hundreds of dollars! They basically listed everything that they could think of and tried to scare me that my car is going to fall apart if I don't do the ridiculous things that they were suggesting. Little did they know that I am not that naive! I would simply go back to my own mechanic, the dealership or anywhere else. So far, we've been here twice in the last year. First time our cylinders were misfiring and we ended up needing spark plugs. Second time the latch on our car door broke from freezing. We've got a VW Jetta. I think their customer service is phenomenal. They have been very flexible with us and are willing to give rides to the library or a shop nearby while you wait. Everyone we've been in contact with is super friendly and helpful. I always worry about finding trustworthy mechanics that don't purposely mess with the car to bring you back in for more work. But I feel comfortable with this place and trust that they won't stoop to those low practices. They are a little pricey. I think. We aren't from the area, so we don't have much to compare it to. I've got some mechanics in the family that have mentioned they could have gotten certain parts cheaper, but that's a different state and maybe things are different here. I don't feel that I know enough or am confident enough to barter for purchasing parts at different places for cheaper prices. Thing is, we only have the one car, so anytime it needs work done, it has to be immediate, which definitely increases prices for parts. Also, the make has a lot to do with it (never buying German again- too expensive to fix in the US). For other simple things like oil changes and tire rotations, I go to Groupon or Costco. Saves a few bucks. But when the car needs real work done, we go here. read more
