Dovers newest restaurant is quite a hit. We went on a Saturday night for dinner. The space is a bit small but they did amazing work with the space they have. The ambiance is very nice, a lot of string lights and farm yard decor (stylish and tasteful, not tacky). Seating is limited, but oh so worth the wait. We ordered craft cocktails while we waited, and they were phenomenal and unique. If you like the drinks at Sonny's, you will love the drinks here. The bartenders, the wait staff and the host were all very friendly, professional and helpful throughout the entire experience. Our food was absolutely delicious. I ordered the Local mushroom, with creamed kale, thrice baked potatoes and tomatoes. My girlfriend got the braised short ribs with jasmine fried rice, house kimchee and spinach. We were given a gift certificate as a Christmas gift and this evening enjoyed a fantastic meal. The service was impeccable as were explanations of the meal preparations. The food was fresh and local where possible. While it may seem on the pricey side, it is worth every cent. The atmosphere may be loud at times and Stalk want to consider acoustic dampening. I tried this place with some friends and was disappointed in the meal I had. I ordered the pan seared arctic char (as did one of my friends). I found it to be very fishy tasting and the accompanying sides, mushroom/onion combo had a very strong vinegar-like flavor. The sumac carrot was just a small smear in my plate, nothing substantial. The caesar salad was ok, but I really didn't care for the added lavender taste (which was as advertised) - just the ceasar would have been perfect. Afterward, I felt nauseous and woke up the next day with my stomach feeling "off." I contacted my friend who also had the char and he felt sick the next day as well. My guess is that the fish had potentially turned, I can't be sure. The atmosphere in the restaurant is quaint but it's small and very loud. The menu is quite pretentious with odd herbs added to everything, including the water which had a stale herb taste to it - there was some sort of dried herb in the bottle I noticed later. To be fair, my other friends who ordered the chicken and the pappardelle were very happy with their meals. I wouldn't go back. read more

I'm 23 and I had asked for my birthday dinner there during Covid because they are so great. When Dos Amigos closed and Stalk started remodeling and posted a potential menu, I thought, these folks don't understand Dover. After visiting and speaking to others I now realize Dover is changing and the folks at Stalk have their finger on the pulse. Menu is short, dining room is small but it allows them to focus and do thing right. I'd rather give 4.5 stars with minor deductions for ambiance, service. Neither of which were bad, just not 5 star. Meals were executed wonderfully, plated nicely with wonderful distinct flavors. If I could change one thing, it would be the label "Korean Pork Chop". The item they serve is delicious and moist and while I well know that all chops can be bone-in or boneless, when a menu doesn't say boneless, I assume bone-in. Yes, I have a mouth and could have simply asked. Typically Korean Pork Chops are made with bone-in, but it would take much longer or require soups vide in advance. I all cooking, there is rarely an always. I applaud Stalk. While Stages is my number one in the Seacoast, it's not a place for regular dining. Stalk is better than Chapel and Main and different from all the rest. In response to John's feedback: Thank you for responding. I always appreciate seeing business respond to their reviews good or bad. Service was more around lack of knowledge around menu ingredients and that will come from experience. Ambiance is tough. It's a small space, as you're aware. It seems a little cold. I question all the articles on the wall in small frames. They are too far away and small for anyone to actually read. Everything was absolutely phenomenal here. The drinks were top notch (especially the mojitos). I had the half chicken breast with pesto, it was tender and couldn't have been cooked better. We stopped in here just for drinks, and stayed for dinner because everything looked so good and the vibe was awesome. I don't think I'd want to sit outside on that busy street with the Jersey barriers, but I can appreciate that some people are still afraid of being indoors. This is an amazing new restaurant in downtown Dover that truly delights the palate and senses. From the moment you step inside you know you are in for a treat. Each dish is expertly prepared with layers of flavor and beautifully presented. I highly recommend the curried squash bisque and roasted Brussels sprouts, both are totally addictive. They have an excellent variety of appetizers and entrees, including crispy schnitzel, seared salmon and roasted cod. The desserts are delicious and homemade, including a decadent flourless chocolate cake with a kick and a meyer lemon tart with handmade mini meringues. They go perfectly with their excellent French pressed coffee, or assorted teas. They also have a full bar and signature cocktails. This restaurant gave me one of the best meals I've ever had in any NH restaurant, ever. I don't know why it feels so hard to find a really good meal around, even in Portsmouth I am so often underwhelmed. But this place, we ordered two starters both had entrees and then one of the most unique and delicious desserts I've ever had. Place was a huge win all around, great staff and we sat outside on a chilly evening but the heat lamps were great. I almost don't want to post a review so the place doesn't get overrun but a restaurant that really knows what it's doing deserves the praise. Stalk never disappoints! Loved going to the restaurant before the pandemic but then they modified and created a great outdoor seating area! Not to mention they do an incredible job with take out!
