Roost burger, served with dry bun and supermarket frozen fries :/

Our first visit to Roost yesterday (05/10/2025) will also surely be the last one. My wife booked a table for 6:45pm, we were greeted by the host who promptly took us to our table, gave us glasses of water and the menus. Great start but everything went downhill from there. For 30 minutes after being seated, we didn't see anyone. Nobody came to ask if we wanted to order drinks or anything else, nothing. The place was not even busy but still, no staff came to talk to us or the table next to us, it's like we were all completely ignored. At some point (30 min +), the wife ran out of patience and went to the host to ask if we could move to the bar to at least get drinks and we did. We were surprised to see that the bar area was also not busy and that there was no one behind the bar. After sitting there for like 5 minutes, someone came to the bar and asked if we wanted drinks. We finally got our first drinks around 7:20pm and ordered our food at the same time: Crispy brie and Arancini for starters, Roost Burger and Salmon sandwich for mains. We waited another 40 minutes before our starters came. Arancini were delicious, perfectly made and really tasty. Sadly the brie wasn't cooked enough, it was a bit cold, the center was still hard and not melted enough. The side crostini were really salty. Our mains came pretty quickly, something like 15-20 minutes after we got the starters but these were another disappointment. The Roost burger was nothing special, the bun was really dry (see pictures) and was served with undercooked frozen French fries. Not impressed. Same comment for the salmon sandwich, salmon was good but the bun was your standard supermarket type of bun and was dry. Altogether, pretty poor experience, really! I was expecting more after looking at their menu. It screams fine dining but really wasn't. The food was not worth the wait (an hour and fifteen minutes before getting starters), staff wasn't very friendly and the service was sluggish but the place wasn't even busy. Don't know if they are short staffed but still, the fact that no one came to say "sorry but the wait is gonna be a bit longer than usual" and they avoided contact (seated for 30 minutes without anyone to come, no one behind the bar most of the evening, 3 interactions top for the entire time we were there and simply a global "can't be bothered attitude") speaks volume, especially when we had a reservation. It feels like the staff tried to avoid contact. Not considering coming back for a second try. PS: the beers list is outdated and has wrong information (i.e. Stella beers are from Belgium, not Holland...)

The food was good the service from Christy was excellent and the ambience will make you want to return. It's a place that you'll enjoy and it's something different. The restaurant logo is sketched into the tables and the water bottles are trendy. A great place to have a glass of wine or a drink with appetizers. The salads were good. The 3 of us enjoyed our meal. I'd go back.

We hosted a family event in their semi-private dining space. The food was enjoyed by all, prices were fair, and the service was excellent. From booking with Kate to the bartender & server, we were well cared for. Thanks Roost!

Service was very good, but we were served drinks, then apps, but had to go to the bar and ask for silverware. We had the pretzel sticks, Brussel sprouts, jaeger schnitzel(2), steak tacos, and country fried chicken. The food was delicious, but I would not call the pork a schnitzel. It was delicious and tender and absolutely loved it, but not a schnitzel. We will try again and I would recommend this place.

Meatloaf, Pear and Steak Salad

Hello! Went to Roost on July 8th while on a long vacation to NH. Dont worry my Covid test came back negative, even though I'm from Florida and tested before venturing out. Anyhow the Meatloaf was fantastic ( I was told) with the asparagus cooked perfectly. The servers were awesome. Sat at a high top in the bar area as it was windy and hot outside. The craft beers are excellent and I had the Pear and Steak salad. Steak cooked PERFECTLY. I will definitely come back next year- Post Covid. Keep up the good work Roost!

We had had a great server who paced our dishes perfectly. There are multiple ways to approach dinner here as they offer a variety of small and large plates. We chose a couple of small plates to start and sample, followed by an entree each. Plenty of food as the portions were generous. We ended up taking home part of each entree for lunch the next day. I tried the Huli Huli chicken buns, hoping for a little bit of Hawaii flavor, and these were delicious. They are priced individually so you can order as many as you like. I thought one was a reasonable appetizer portion. Unfortunately, the Cavatelli was sold out, but they offered another delicious pasta in it's place. I had the Plum Char Sui Pork, again a generous portion of melt in your mouth pork. Lots of that delicious five spice flavor, which hit all the right notes. Perhaps a bit too much of the sauce for me, but this was a delicious plate and I thought reasonably priced as compared to many other restaurants lately. I can see why this chef has gotten a James Beard nod, and a great spot to enjoy when in Dover

Reservations recommended we were seated at a beautiful table for two right near the bar and started off with a Pinot noir and a cabernet. Both wines were delightful. For appetizers we had the braised lamb crepe and the octopus... Both dishes were delicious, presented well with sauces to die for. Followed by the pasta dish and the duck. These were the best dinners of the year for us. The blending of flavors were fantastic and it was augmented by the owner coming over and talking to us about how the food was prepared. I won't bore you with all the details but the octopus is slow boiled for 5 hours.. complete with wine. Corks it was tender and delicious with the Mediterranean flair. We go out to eat our fair share from high end to diners anywhere. The food is well prepared and delicious... This was the top for the year! From the service to the presentation to the wine to the ambiance, everything is top notch here. I will provide a warning. You will drop a pretty penny if you partake in all the courses, but we thought it was well worth it. Thank you to the staff and ownership. We enjoyed our evening.. a true date night.

I say alcohol because it wasn't all wine but ... since it's a bit of a surprise in terms of what actually appears I'll just leave it at that. However, as to the food ... I'll give a taste, a flavor, a wisp of a whisper of the full culinary adventure. For complete details, see your local sous chef! Here's what we had. In the middle of my photo collage, a blood sausage slider with fennel/jalapeño sauce on toasted brioche bun. Then clockwise from top left - cornbread with maple glaze in a Barbie sized personal cast iron skillet; beet salad with goat cheese half spheres; a dessert tray of black apple cake with hay ice cream (yes, seriously), chamomile pot de creme and a duck fat beignet; an assortment of ice creams - fenugreek, fennel/maitake mushroom/burnt hazelnut (all tasted fabulous and in each you could taste the listed flavors); entree of duck and wild mushroom tart; white bean soup and finally a pasta dish of ravioli with two fillings. Just a note on what it would take to make it yourself. See that hexagonal white blob on the bottom row, middle pic? That's a potato foam. Forgive me for not recalling the full procedure but the prep is roughly 7 hours long. First, the cut potatoes are cooked in a sous vide for 2 hours so that no moisture is added to them. Then a succession of ricing, smoking, drying, undrying, mashing, placing in a foam machine that looked like a whipped cream dispenser and boom - a tiny dollop of potato. It tasted great. But man - that's a lot of effort for a mouthful of potato. I don't think I'll be trying it at home. Over two hours of eating and chatting. I brought a couple of my restaurant-based cartoons as my personal thanks for the meal and was shocked that Justin, their sommelier, had done a cartoon of his own ahead of time for me! Just stick to wine, Justin - I don't need any MORE competition with my magazine editors ... With Dylan ably providing the primary chef duties and Amaya and Justin handling the booze, the meal was a smashing success. The food pairings were masterfully chosen and timing of the dishes meant we were always primed for the next one. Although the succession of what I'd call dessert dishes made me start to feel like a Hobbit enjoying dessert, second dessert and then post seconds. As Anton Ego said in Ratatouille (and they have a cute Reme rat under glass on a shelf) "I shall be returning, hungry for more."

Cava is a very intimate dining experience with a warm comfortable indoor and outdoor seating option. It is also very practical as a stop before going to the Music Hall, an important date or like us an anniversary. Cava is unlike many of the places we have visited over the years in the food category. After driving 40 minutes we arrived 10 minutes early as they don't open until 430; no problem ,they saw us in the parking lot and waved us in. Unusual as most places guard the door to the second. They sat us immediately, and introduced us to our server Alyssa ,who turned out to be the most knowledgeable , professional person we have ever met. And we have been dining out and working in the industry for many years! The fun began; my wife ordered her Filet Mignon and I asked Alyssa what she recommended , shocking me she said The Skirt Steak with marbled potatoes with the empanadas as an appetizer. I was certain she would have said the Porterhouse or Tomahawk to upsell us but she was spot on as it was incredibly tender and flavorful . In summary it was the most delightful fine dining experience we have ever enjoyed! Thank you Alyssa and your incredible chefs and fellow servers for unforgettable 56 anniversary dinner!

We wanted to try a little bit of everything, so decided on the mixed grill for 2, with mashed potatoes and fires on the side. We started with the focaccia bread and oil dressing that were very good. We also got the enchiladas, one spicy cheese and the other beef. These were okay, nothing crazy but enjoyable. However, the mixed grill was simply not worth the money. The sausage was over cooked, strip steak flavorless and the long short ribs were tough. The chicken was okay, but nothing better than anywhere else I've had grilled chicken before. Our waitress Jennifer was amazing. And when she asked how our experience was, she could see by the lack of food we had eaten, and the expression on my face, we were not impressed. We ended our meal with the tres leches cake that was very good. Overall, this place is a gimmicky tourist trap that over charges for their "atmosphere" and prays you get drunk off their $250 wine before you order. I thought for sure it would be decent, and was wrong. I would hate to see the quality in peak tourist season. Leaving hungry was not something I imagined.
