Came here on a Saturday early evening with reservations. This place was already packed with families everywhere. We were seated pretty quickly as they were already prepared for our group. It was about 12 of us. It's a BYOB spot so our waiter offered us a cooled ice bucket follr our wine. They opened and poured our wine for us. Our waiter was attentive and friendly. Despite the packed restaurant, he did a good job catering to our needs. I ordered Greek salad, lamb chops with the potatoes. My lamb chops were a tad overcooked but very tasty. I loved the potatoes, they had a lemon flavor that was different but delicious. I also ordered baklava and it was so yummy!!! The place was an open family-style seating and was inviting. I love this place! I've been to Greece and this is as close as you will get in the US. Great food, great service, & a nice calm ambiance. I go to lunch all the time and tried their dinner. Not sure why the negative reviews. This place was busy on a Friday night. The decor is excellent and reminds us of Greece where we were fortunate enough to travel to many years ago. The food in Greece was really good and I think the food in here is pretty close. We had the lamb gyro platter and we really love the meat. Mousaka has a whole slice of eggplant in the middle. It tasted really good. Service was good as well. My only complaint was the food could be hotter when served. Would love to go back and try other dishes. read more

To think I passed this restaurant for years-stopped in with my best friend for dinner. We had their seafood platter including prawns, octopus, calamari with side of lemon and potatoes were insanely delicious. Our waiter Endre was attentive and making sure we were taken care of. It makes me so sad because I really wanted to love this place!! The food sadly wasn't great. I felt it lacked flavor. I really did not like the fries at all. They were so bland that even adding salt didn't help. The muscles were okay. I got the shrimp entree with peppers and I was pleasantly surprised with the amount of shrimp in it. Props to the restaurant for giving so many. We loved the pan fried cheese. The server lit it on fire when he brought it to us. However, service was not good. It was so hard to track our waiter down for the check and she didn't come to check on us. My partner and I tried to get her attention multiple times and nothing worked. For our entree, we shared the 2.5lb pink snapper. It came with the choice of 3 sides so we opted for the lemon potatoes, string beans, and Greek salad. I was expecting regular green beans but these were broad and had amazing flavor! They're stewed in a tomato sauce that was very flavorful. The lemon potatoes were simple, lemony, and good. The side Greek salad was okay. The fish had a nice meaty texture and was grilled well. It lacked a bit of seasoning but came with a side of lemon olive oil and lemon wedges that helped. Came here for my sisters birthday on a Sunday @ 12. We were able to get a table for 6 right away. They gave little crayons and a kids menu for my two daughters which is always a perk for me as a mom of a 2 and 4 year old. I was very excited about eating at Stamna. It has an excellent reputation. Unfortunately, it did not live up to expectations. I started out with the bread which is complementary. It was good. For appetizers, the fried cheese was excellent. I had it with the complementary bread and it tasted great. As for the mussels, I was disappointed. It tasted great but the tomato sauce was overwhelming to the point it felt like I was eating soup. Lastly, the lamb kebab was equally disappointing. Had a reservation at 8pm. Waited 30 minutes, spoke to hostess as they continue to tell me table had paid but still sitting. Hostess was not proactive. Drove 45 minutes with a promise of having an 8pm reservation. Asked another hostess who agreed that they could have asked paying party to give up table as they had another reservation. Outstanding Greek restaurant located in Bloomfield. Passed by it going to Holstens many times and finally gave it a shot. Interior and ambiance are great. The service was above and beyond excellent and that's what clinched the fifth star. Waiter was great with recommendations and was attentive all night. This is a rare instance that atmosphere really drove my experience. The restaurant is decorated perfectly but the real star of the show is Niko. Probably single handedly one of the best waiters I've ever had. We were seated promptly but we were waiting for a little while before anyone attended to us. I saw Niko scold the other waiters who were just standing aroung while we were waiting for service. I should have known from that moment on this guy was top notch. He was so helpful and inviting he really drove my experience here. I hope management sees this and uses him to train all incoming waiters, he's truly great. OK all that aside. The food was good, clean food, something you feel good after eating even after eating a whole branzino, lamb or porgy. :) One of the best desserts I've ever had in my life was that galaktoboureko. Maybe because it was my first time having it but oh my that was a fantastic experience. I've never had Greek coffee and I was super super surprised, great coffee that has me running on Amazon looking for a briki to make the coffee. I look forward to coming back here again really soon. I came with 2 very good friends - and have not been to a REAL Greek restaurant in too long. We intended to try everything we could - and it was all wonderful. We got the dip platter, but were first presented with wonderful crusty bread and a plate of olives! A great touch is that they put a bottle of chilled water on your table and keep replacing it so you can always have water. The dip platter was great, but especially the Tzatziki (amazingly creamy). We had the meatball appetizer and of course the flaming cheese - so much fun! We then shared 2 entrees - Moussaka with green beans and Kleftiko (Greek Lamb In Parchment) - FABULOUS - especially the Green Beans!!! The space was large enough to hold a larger group of us which is great. The food was solid. We ordered tatziki, saganaki (pan fried cheese), and salad to start. The tatziki and the pita bread it came with were delicious and the saganaki was also great. The salad was underdressed sour wasn't as great. The place has a great ambiance, and our server was great, but it's the food that was underwhelming. We got the spinach pie, octopus for apps, and the lamb and shrimp for mains. I ate here recently and their service is appalling. First of all, I had a reservation set at 7:30, and we were not seated until 8:10. The hostess was inattentive and rude. Second of all, I hear from my uncle that the waiter (who apparently knew who I was? Despite me never meeting or communicating with him) had some very rude things to say about my girlfriend who I was there with. Messing up the reservation is one thing, but instead of attempting to reconcile the situation, I have to find out later that this was said behind my back. Unbelievable. Wife and I went to Stamna last Sunday for dinner. Ordered pan fried lamb liver -- delicious -- and Melitzanosalata (eggplant dip) -- under salted -- for appetizers. My main course was a lamb gyro -- plenty of meat but pitas were dry and cut into small pieces (why?) and, instead of tzatziki sauce, they served it with plain Greek yogurt. I'd rate it one of the most disappointing gyros I've ever had. Came with fries -- good -- and a Greek salad -- also good. My wife's main course was descibed as lamb and vegetables in tomato sauce, baked in phyllo. Very large with a lot of really tender lamb in crispy phyllo, but few vegetables, not much tomato sauce and no seasoning -- so very bland. Restaurant was really crowded so service was slow, but our waitress was as helpful as she could be. With tip, meal came to almost $100 -- not a good deal IMO. Much prefer Mykonos in North Arlington, our favorite Greek restaurant in the area. read more

I really really really want to like this place. It's Greek/Mediterranean, which I typically love, it's got a great menu, and it's local to where I live. But, I have given it three chances and I'm let down each time. It's not terrible by any means, and the staff is very nice, but it seems to me like everything just tastes a little off. The tziki (sp?) sauce has a weird flavor, the white rice...texture is strange and tastes a bit weird and I most recently had a chicken souvlaki platter where the chicken was cut into cubes and just over done so it was so dry. I would definitely recommend someone to try it for themselves, it's very possible that it's just me lol but I probably will not be going back. read more

Authentic friendly and homey spot to bring your family/loved ones/girl group/date to. The food was delicious and the portions were hefty. No leftovers had gone uneaten. I recommend the fish roe spread with pita for an unexpected fresh, light and salty appetizer as well as the grilled calamari. Our server was also just super sweet and welcoming I felt like he was our cousin serving us not a waiter. While I usually go to Sofia in Hasbrouck Heights, they don't take reservations unless it's a big crowd and I wasn't in the mood to wait in the cold. Stamna is only about 10 minutes further and easily worth the extra few minute drive. I have been here 3 times so far and the food has been excellent. The vibe and decor is 100% Greek tavern style. We consistently try different items off the menu and everything has been delicious. I have ordered the octopus every time and it has been consistently awesome. Top 3 for me. Staff is pleasant and plentiful and the service is fast even when the place is mobbed. Portions sizes are above average and prices are reasonable. BYO is always a plus!
